Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: Only 2 -3
chapters left in this story. Shikamaru
and Neji have something coming up.
Sasuke and Gaara have something else coming up. Lastly, I might add in an epilogue. If you want to make a request, feel free
(though I may not honor it if it’s something I don’t feel like writing).
Review Responses:
Ero Sennin: I also love the Gaara/ Naruto moment in the
anime. I cried. (yes, I’m a baby). I agree; everything can be solved with ramen…except
well, a lot of things. I wish creditors
would take ramen as payment.
*contemplates way to turn ramen into currency*
Nejislady: I really wanted to show that Gaara and Sasuke had
an almost instant connection. I love
your reviews. They always make me
smile. Thank you for still reading. I hope you enjoy the GaaSasu story I’m
writing for you.
Chapter 21 – Uneventful
Weeks
Shikamaru stretched as he watched Neji train with his
uncle. He yawned. He hadn’t had any missions in the last two
weeks. No one had. It was like the village was in a stand
still. He knew it was because the exams
had just ended. Everyone was
re-evaluating the other villages. It was
painfully slow. He’d been given a
position in Tsunade’s service because of his ability to strategize, but it
didn’t mean he liked it, and it meant he had something to do everyday instead
of just a couple days on and then a bunch of days off.
Neji had been busy training with his uncle. He wanted to become stronger than ever, and
to learn how to accept when he was beaten.
He didn’t want to stay a genin forever.
It was his own fault that he couldn’t admit his limitations. If he had just quit and let Naruto win, he
may have passed the exam. He sighed when
he noticed his husband lying on the ground watching him. “Shikamaru, you’re such a lazy ass.”
Shikamaru rolled over and propped himself up on his elbows.
“Yeah, but you love me anyway.”
Shikamaru pushed himself to sitting before standing up. He walked over to Neji and wrapped his
husband in a tight hug. “Take a break
and get some lunch with me?”
Neji smiled. He
kissed Shikamaru softly. “Yeah, just
give me a minute.” He turned Hiashi and
smiled. “Shikamaru’s stealing me for
lunch, uncle. When I get back will you
teach me that new move you were telling me about?”
Hiashi nodded. “I
needed a break anyway. Be back in an
hour and a half, okay?”
Neji nodded and took Shikamaru’s hand as they started
walking toward the food district. Neji
groaned. “Not ramen!”
Shikamaru laughed.
“Everyone’s going to be there Neji.
We haven’t really spent any time with our other friends lately. You’re busy training, and I’m busy adjusting
to my new position. Please?” Shikamaru pouted.
Neji laughed. “You
must still be finding time to hang out with Naruto, because his pouting his
really rubbing off on you.”
Shikamaru blushed. “I
haven’t been hanging out with him; he comes into the office every day to try
and get missions for their team, and ends up pouting when Tsunade doesn’t have
anything for him.”
Neji shook his head.
Naruto was nothing if not persistent.
“All right. We can have ramen
this once. I’ll expect you to make it up
to me tonight though,” he said with a wink.
Shikamaru shuddered.
They’d quickly fallen into their roles as married men and he had to
admit going home every night to Neji certainly had its perks. Some days it was hours after he got home
before they actually got around to eating.
He smirked as his dirty thoughts took over and pulled Neji into an
alley. “You don’t need to wait that
long, if you don’t want to.”
Neji groaned. All
Shikamaru had to do was look at him the right way and he was horny. Shikamaru rubbed against Neji’s budding
erection. “We don’t have to see our
friends,” Shikamaru breathed out against Neji’s lips.
Neji moaned, but forced himself to open his eyes. He was panting hard all ready. “Damn you and your libido. For a lazy ass bastard, you sure have energy
for sex.”
Shikamaru smiled as he let Neji move from the wall. “You’d rather have ramen than sex with
me? I must be losing my touch.”
Neji shook his head, but grabbed Shikamaru’s hand. “You are right about needing to see our
friends. And I know even if we do this
now you’ll be insatiable tonight.”
Shikamaru groaned.
Now that he had an erection, he didn’t want to go eat with his
friends. He sighed, and hung his
head. “I’ll be ready in a minute.” He cursed his stupid libido and overactive
imagination.
Neji smirked, but didn’t say anything. He smiled when Shikamaru stood up and grabbed
his hand again. Neji kissed his
cheek. “I really will make it worth
while tonight, okay?”
Shikamaru laughed. “I
thought I was going to have to make it up to you.” Neji shrugged. They saw Naruto, Sauske, Shino, and Ino all
ready sitting down at the Ramen counter.
Shikamaru held his hand up. “Yo.”
Sasuke smiled. “We
expected you to be later; I thought you’d get sidetracked on the way down
here.”
Shikamaru shrugged and Neji smirked. “We tried to.
I guess we’re just too devoted to you guys.”
Ino laughed. “Yeah,
we’re awesome.”
Naruto smirked.
“How’s Kankuro?”
Ino glared. “Shut up! You know I haven’t talked to him in like a
week…after I told him he was an ass for calling his brother a third wheel.”
Sasuke smiled a faint, almost non-existent smile. “I never did tell you thank you for telling
him that.”
Ino shrugged. “Don’t worry, Sasuke. He deserved it and he’ll call back
eventually.”
Chouji came up behind Sasuke. He was on his phone. “Yes, Temari, tonight I promise. Yes.
I’m here.” He handed the phone to
Sasuke. “Gaara wants to say hi to you.”
Sasuke couldn’t help the smile that spread across his
face. “Um, hi.”
“Hi,” Gaara’s almost shy voice came over the line. “Have you gotten any missions yet?”
Sasuke sighed.
“No. How’s the village treating
you?”
Sasuke heard Gaara sigh, though it was soft. “Mostly the same. A few of the younger students have started to
relax around me though.”
Sasuke frowned. “I’m
glad they’re being good to you anyway.
You deserve so much Gaara.”
Sasuke smacked Shikamaru’s face away as he started making kissy noises.
“What was that?” Gaara asked. Sasuke could hear Temari sigh beside
him. “I should get going; this is
Temari’s phone after all. Bye, Sasuke.”
“Bye, Gaara.” He
handed the phone back to Chouji. “What?”
All of his friends exchanged glances before making really
loud kissy noises. Sasuke banged his
head against the table. Sakura showed up
while Sasuke was banging his head on the table and everyone else was laughing
hysterically. “What did I miss?”
Sasuke shook his head.
“Nothing. I’m going to go see if
there’s any work yet.”
Sasuke heard a chorus of ‘don’t go’s’ behind him, but he
didn’t care. He wanted to go see Gaara
and he wanted to get away from the friends who were teasing him
mercilessly. He trotted up the stairs to
the Hokage’s room. He knocked on the
door and waited for the ‘come in.’ He
pushed the door open and shrugged. “Got
anything yet?”
Tsunade looked up and shook her head. “No.
What’s with all of you coming to bug me?
Chouji wants to go to Suna.
Temari wants to bring Suna here.
What do you want?”
Sasuke shrugged.
“Just to get away for a while.
Itachi and Genma are kind of sickening now that they are taking their
‘honeymoon.’ Naruto and Shino are always
at our place too. I just want to get out
of town for a while.”
Tsunade sighed. “Are you doing all
right? I mean, you and Shikamaru are all
right?”
Sasuke nodded. “It seems like Deidara is
doing better, too. I mean, he’s forgiven
Itachi for putting him under genjustu as punishment for his prank. I think he’s still hurt, but he’s forgiven me
for breaking it off with him. It just
seems like everyone has something to keep them busy except me.”
Tsunade chuckled. “I
have one mission, but it’s really pretty boring. It’s just a mission to Suna. Bring some papers to the Kazekage and then
come back with his reply. It’s only a C
mission.”
Sasuke smirked. “I’ll
take it. I really need to get out of
here.”
Tsunade shrugged.
“I’ll be ready for you to come pick up the papers in an hour. The mission should only take you five days two
days to travel there, a day there, and two days to travel back.”
Sasuke smiled and nodded.
****************************************
Shikamaru wiped his eyes.
“Oh come on, Sasuke. You can stay
here. We’ll be nice.”
Neji just shook his head as Sasuke walked away. “He’ll be fine.” He turned to Chouji. “How’s it been going?”
Chouji smiled. “Pretty good. I mean, it sucks cuz their aren’t any
missions, but my dad’s been training me on clan techniques.”
Ino smirked. “I’ve
just been busy with the flower shop.
It’s kind of nice seeing everyone around the village for once.”
Sakura shrugged. “I
don’t know. Tsunade’s running me
ragged. I told her I was interested in
learning medical ninjutsu. She didn’t
want to take me on, but with Sasuke passing to chuunin, our team is kind of
breaking up. She decided to take me.”
Naruto groaned.
“Great, now what am I going to do?”
Sakura shrugged. “Not
my problem.”
Shino sighed and turned to his best friends. “How about you two? We haven’t really seen you much since the
exams.”
Neji and Shikamaru blushed. “I guess
we’ve gotten kind of caught up in playing house,” Neji answered.
Shikamaru sighed. “Troublesome.”
Neji laughed. “With
me training all day and Shikamaru working for the Hokage, we don’t get much
time alone until supper time. Then it
usually takes us a while to get to supper and by the time we eat we’re ready
for bed.”
Naruto laughed.
“Which one of you is the horn dog?”
Shikamaru and Neji pointed at each other, then laughed hard. Shino shook his head. “You two are terrible. Maybe when the honeymoon is finally over
you’ll come out with us once in a while.”
Shikamaru shrugged. “Where to?”
Shino smiled. “You
guys want to go to the baker’s festival with us this weekend?”
Shikamaru shrugged again and pulled Neji into a hug. “Sure.
As long as Neji doesn’t mind.”
Neji shook his head. “Don’t mind at all,
actually.” He kissed Shikamaru’s
shoulder softly. “It sounds like fun.”
Neji looked at the clock.
“Look, I gotta go back to training. Thanks for lunch. I had a great time, and we’ll see you for the
festival this weekend.”
Shikamaru stood up, and Neji caressed his chin.
“You can stay. I know you don’t
need to be back to work just yet.” He
kissed his husband’s lips softly and turned to go back to training. Shikamaru sat back down and re-joined the
conversation.
Sasuke strolled back up.
“I got the first mission.” He
stuck his tongue out at Naruto who started pouting. “I’m off to Suna for a few days.” He smirked.
Naruto pointed a finger and laughed. “You just want to see Gaara! Gaara and Sasuke sitting in a tree.”
Sasuke rolled his eyes.
“Really? Hasn’t anyone thought up
a new rhyme yet? That’s getting so old.”
Naruto smirked. “When
are you leaving?”
Sasuke shrugged and checked the clock in the shop. “In 10 minutes. I just wanted to stop by and say goodbye for
now.”
Naruto smiled.
“Goodbye, Sas! Be careful!” He stood up and waved at everyone. “I’m going to walk Sasuke out.”
Naruto and Sasuke made their way quietly toward the Hokage
tower. “Sasuke, just be careful that you
don’t hurt him, okay?”
Sasuke nodded. “I
know. My heart breaks every time I hear
that nothing has changed though.”
Naruto shrugged. “I
know the feeling. I wish that he didn’t
have a monster trapped inside of him, but there’s nothing we can do to change
it.”
Sasuke smiled. “I’ll
see you later, Nar. I’ve got to pick up
these papers quickly and then I’m off to Suna.”
Tsunade handed Sasuke the papers she needed to send to the
Kazekage. Sasuke smiled and took off
running. If he ran as fast as he could,
he could be there by noon tomorrow. He’d
only stop for the smallest of necessary rests.
Soon he’d be sitting with Gaara and speaking of whatever Gaara felt like
speaking of.
Sasuke ran out the gates of Konoha when an almost ominous feeling shook
him. He ignored it, wanting to get to
Suna as soon as possible. The first day
went without any issues, and by noon he was walking through the gates of
Suna. He smiled as he was greeted by
Kankuro. “Hi, Kankuro. I have papers for your Kazekage.”
Kankuro nodded.
“Gaara’s excited that you will be here.
Our father isn’t so sure he likes that Gaara has formed friendships with
anyone. So, Gaara didn’t want to be the
one to come here before you deliver and receive your papers. He will see you once your mission is
completed.”
Sasuke nodded. “I know he’s your dad,
but I seriously hope someone beats him in battle soon and takes over as the new
Kazekage.”
Kankuro led Sasuke to the Kazekage and bowed as he left the
two together. “From the Hokage, sir.”
The Kazekage smirked.
Sasuke shook his head. That
looked like Gaara’s mouth. Gaara must
look quite a bit like his father then.
“Thank you. I’ll have a reply for
you in a few minutes. Please, go wait
with Kankuro and I will call you back when I finish.”
Sasuke bowed. “Yes
sir.” He left the room and saw Kankuro
lounging against the wall. “I guess I’m
supposed to stay with you until he calls me back.”
Kankuro nodded. “Have you guys had any
missions lately?”
Sasuke shook his head. “It’s been boring
beyond belief lately. Tsunade-sama says
it’s because everyone is re-evaluating the powers of the villages. It’s obvious that our two villages are the
strongest. I guess people are just
deciding which of the villages to come to.”
Kankuro nodded again.
Kankuro’s name was called through the door. “He’s ready now.” He led Sasuke back into the Kazekage’s
office.
Sasuke took the papers handed to him and smirked. “Thank you, Kazekage.” The Kazekage dismissed him and he followed
Kankuro. Kankuro pointed Sasuke down a
hall. “Gaara’s third door on the left.”
Sasuke smiled and nodded. “Ino wants you
to call her.” Kankuro smirked and winked
before walking away. Sasuke walked down
the hall and stopped in front of the third door. He took a deep breath and turned the
knob. He saw Gaara sitting near the
window and staring outside. “You look
beautiful.”
Gaara whipped his head around to Sasuke. “You said you’d tell me when you were coming!”
Sasuke smiled. “Um,
surprise?”
Gaara laughed and motioned Sasuke to close the door. “Come here, Sasuke.” Sasuke crossed the room and sat down next to
Gaara in the window. “I’m glad you’re
here.”
Sasuke smiled and let his head fall to Gaara’s
shoulder. “Me too. I feel so much better when I’m in your
presence.”
