"Don't trust him, Gaara! He's a liar and a coward!
Gaara had to look to Shiro, who only shrugged. He honestly had no idea of what he was being accused of, but if it meant that Gaara was threatened, he was more than happy to fight about it. "What are you talking about, Akane? Shiro isn't..." "He's lying! He's working for Kabuto!" Shiro's green eyes narrowed again before looking to Gaara. Obviously, Akane knew something that he didn't...or the young prince was mistaken. Either way, he would not endanger anyone over it. "I...don't know what you're talking about Akane, but leave them alone. If it's me you want..." "ENOUGH! Kill them both if you have too!" The Vanguard moved to attack, making Naruto and Sasuke stand their ground, but the fight never came. The earth opened up, and like a storm in the ocean, the waves of sands moved to crash around them. Gaara had not moved, his eyes closed tightly in concentration. Upon opening them, Akane found himself surrounded by ominous walls, readying themselves to crush. He could have gotten away, but someone had already managed to save him. "Gaara! Stop!" The walls crumbled as the Kazekage seemed to come back to his senses. Holding onto Akane tightly was Kankuro, using himself to shield his lover from his brother's rage, while his puppets were holding back the force of the sand. Akane was startled, at first, but recognized those strong arms that were embracing so tightly right away. The tense body relaxed, even though it didn't want too. Large tears started to roll from the sad, green eyes as he clung to the muscled forearms. Sighing, Gaara started to walk forward, eyeing his brother for an explanation. Fishing into his short's pocket, Kankuro pulled out the picture he stole from the tiny apartment. "It's Shiro. They are brothers...or use to be." Blinking in disbelief, Gaara examined the old photo closely. Yes, he saw it now too. The brown hair and hazel eyes were different, but that was the same face and smile Shiro always gave him. Naruto and Sasuke came to inspect the picture as well, but Shiro stayed behind. "Well I'll be damned. Sasuke, did you know anything about this?" Turning to his husband, Naruto questioned him. Sasuke only shook his head. "No, never. I admit I attacked the village once, but I never killed anyone there and I never saw this guy before. I was sent to pick up some formulas, but got chased out by Akane and..." The young prince remained very quiet, still finding some comfort in Kankuro's hold. The remaining of the guards were unharmed, although dazed from being nearly buried alive. It took a moment for Kankuro to let his lover go, speaking softly to him before the prince turned to Gaara. "....His name isn't Shiro. It's Shura. He...He gave away our family secrets to Orochimaru and...willingly left with him. He hated my father for what he did...and..." Sighing deeply, Sasuke put an arm around the young man. "Wait. Come talk to me...Guys, stay here. I'll take care of this." Kankuro was about to protest when Sasuke shot him a glare. "You too, lover boy." "Hey! Ya better not do anything funny, ya damn fag!" Naruto only sighed, turning to Gaara while giving Kankuro a solid punch to the head. "Sasuke is better to deal with this. He knows more about Orochimaru than even Shiro does, I bet...besides, it looks like they have some history..." Naruto's face was nearly as sour as Gaara's and Kankuro's, but finally Gaara noticed that Shiro was still standing at a distance by himself. Leaving his brother and Naruto to fight it out like rowdy children, Gaara returned to his own lover's side. As Sasuke took Akane back into the house, Shiro could only watch and remain still, even as Gaara came back to him. The air was still stagnant with the spore clouds that attacked the house, but with a wave of his hand, Akane dispersed them as if it was a living swarm. Being led by Sasuke was awkward, as he barely remembered the fight they had so many years ago. "Sit down and talk to me. Don't hold back for anyone's sake." Moving to pull out a chair, Akane was ushered to sit politely and was soon offered a cup of ice tea. Sasuke took up the broom to start sweeping glass, but was actively listening. Taking a deep breath, the prince looked weary of his secrets. "I acted rashly, and I'm sorry...But once I was able to tell that your 'Shiro' is really Shura, I..." "The reason I wanted you to talk to me in private is because no one will understand you better than I do. You have my ear, and I'll do whatever I can to help you, but you have to be honest." Sasuke spoke calmly, his words actually sounding sincere as he swept the glass on the floor carefully. His movements were surprisingly graceful, as he was still barefooted and topless, the dark eyes focusing on the tiptoed steps. Nodding, Akane took a sip of the tea before starting his story. "Shura is my older brother, and a Jinchuriki. Not so much like Naruto or Gaara, because he was made using remnants. You understand, don't you? That the tailed beasts are not solid, physical bodies. That they can transcend and be in multiply places at once...like how you are now?" Sasuke gave a nod, knowing that all too well. "You see, my father favored Shura, but didn't have a strong connection to the family line. He could, however, tolerate a lot before being actually hurt. It's not just a physical immunity, but even using charka. They said he could even stand up against the Uchiha's Sharingan for some time. He processed things quickly, but lacked the chakra to be useful in a fight...so...they wanted to fix that." "I see..." Not wanting to comment too much, Sasuke moved to get the dust pan to sweep up some of the glass pieces. Moving to the trash can, he dumped the broken shards. "By fixing it, you mean they sealed a tailed beast inside of him?" "Not...a whole one. We were attacked a long time ago by the six-tailed beast. It's sort of a kid's story now, but it's true. The giant white slug that attacked the gardens. We drove it back, but it left heavy amounts of its chakra from doing damage. It tainted our water supply for some time. We...harnessed that...and forced it into Shura. It was suppose to be for our protection, just in case the beast ever returned, but Shura was bitter." Laughing, Sasuke gave a nod. "Yeah, I can see that. Gaara is still getting over what they did to him. Don't think he'll ever be right." Trying not to laugh as well, Akane only smiled a little. "Well, Shura wasn't happy and hated my father for it. So, he leaked information to Orochimaru and wanted to leave with him. I pieced together over the years that you were just a distraction, and Shura gave what you were meant to steal anyway. It was a cover, so he could leave...He...he really hated me. He hated that I inherited the family line and wasn't forced to be stronger." Stopping the cleaning, Sasuke leaned against the broom to look at Akane. "I understand that better than anyone, the temptation that Orochimaru offered. I left willingly, as well. I understand it perfectly. But to think that Shiro is a carrier...I suppose that explains a lot too. According to Shiro, he was tortured and eventually changed to what he is now. I don't believe there is anything left of your brother, and I'm sorry for that. Shiro is Shiro now, not Shura. He doesn't remember much before he was changed, and he's not the monster you say he is." "I...I don't believe that he doesn't remember. The way he looked at me..." "The way he looked at you was someone who was willing to let you hate them, if it meant you wouldn't hurt anyone else. You want to look into the eyes of a monster?" Leaning down, Sasuke came extremely close. Slowly, his eyes swirled to the signature black and red. "These are the eyes of a man who remembers everything he did in betraying his friends. I remember every cut, every word, every drop of blood I spilled from them, and I'm still here. They accepted and forgave me, when they have every reason not too." Pulling back, Akane adverted looking into those dangerous eyes for too long. "...I see. And yet you live with yourself?" Laughing again, Sasuke pulled up a chair to the table as well, taking a seat. "Not only that, I let myself be happy. Shiro is no longer your brother, and whatever he did, he paid for it with his life and memories. It's almost too perfect, to be able to forget betraying those who love you. Sometimes I wish I was half as fortunate...but I'm also happy I'm not. If I ever forgot about Naruto, I'd never hear the end of it...bah...He'd make me remember."While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
