With slow movements so the insects weren’t startled, the clone went to the tent and pulled out the pink crystal …

Hinata stiffened the second she heard the door handle creak. She was ready for an onslaught of doctors or another disgusting cup of bubbling sludge that is foolishly called tea. However, that didn’t happen. To her surprise the door swung open to reveal her father, who looked concerned, and none other than the hokage. Neither of them even had hazmat suits.
Hiashi frowned, “Exactly what did you get into, Hinata?”
“What? Nothing-“ Hinata winced as her father gave her a disbelieving look.
Hiruzen sighed, “Hiashi, now is not the time. I explained what you needed to know and that’s all that can be said. She isn’t even aware of what her actions caused.” He gestured for Hinata to follow him, which she did immediately.
“Yes, hokage-sama.” Hiashi said as he followed the two out of the compound and looked at his eldest daughter. “I was informed that you weren’t sick. You claimed that so you could investigate something for your teammates.” He raised a finger when she tried to say something. “I don’t know what you were after, but you went too far and the hokage arranged to have stopped for own safety.”
“My … safety?” Hinata murmured and looked at the hokage in complete confusion.
The hokage gestured for Hiashi to not continue with them, “I know about the bet, Hinata. Not exact details, but I know enough to know that’s why-“ he paused when Hinata suddenly looked shocked and slightly dizzy. “First time using shadow clones?” He asked, taking note of the odd reaction. With that flinch in mind and knowing that she had been to places where she shouldn’t be, he realized how Hinata could manage finding Naruto’s home while being under house arrest.
Hinata nodded sheepishly as they walked out of the compound and into the streetlight lit road towards town, “Yes, hokage-sama. I really wanted to help my sensei by learning what some people might not know. I knew it annoyed some people, but I didn’t realize I did anything bad or dangerous. I only wanted to keep my sensei from taking sensitive pictures for a certain person.” She said shyly as they walked through the streets, which were still busy despite being late.
“That explains how you managed to get out and why this bet got out of control.” Hiruzen said casually, but he didn’t continue the original conversation until they were in the hokage tower. “All those people seemed cheerful and kind, didn’t they?”
“Umm yes.” Hinata said, not sure if she should say something nasty about the villagers in front of the hokage. She considered mentioning Naruto’s, but her eyes widened when they entered the hokage’ s office. “It’s you. You were in the pictures at Naruto’s house.” She said once she saw the beautiful red haired man sitting on the couch next to Konohamaru. Of course, she blushed when she realized she said too much, but she noticed no one was surprised.
Hiruzen chuckled as he shut the door, “Your clone was thorough.” He said before becoming rather serious. “This is Kurama. Right now let’s get in touch with your teammates.” He said and pulled out a pink crystal just in time to hear the words ‘you scared me, brat’, which made Hiruzen relieved. “I take it you found Naruto.”
“Naruto?” Hinata muttered in a daze.
Just before her mind started wondering what might’ve happened to her teammates, since Naruto was supposed to be with them, she felt a hand on her back, “Don’t worry about your team.” Hinata blinked and looked behind her. She was stunned to see that it was Kurama, who was literally on the couch in front of her a split second ago. “Your teammates don’t know it, but Naruto separated from them a few hours ago.” Kurama said kindly as he guided her to the couch.
The pale eyes still looked worried, “How did that even happen?” She asked as she took a seat on the couch between Konohamaru and Kurama.
“Most likely something dangerous.” Konohamaru said and everyone snapped to attention when they heard a click and saw the hokage put the crystal on the desk. Apparently, they forgot that he was talking through the crystal the entire time.
“Kurenai, Shino, Kiba, Akamaru, can you all hear me?” Hiruzen asked as he took a seat. “I’d ask for Hinata, but she’s here with me, which is odd considering she’s supposed to be with your team, correct?”
‘Yes, hokage-sama …’ The three voices responded, or barked in Akamaru’s case, but could hear a slight touch of fear in their tone. The members of team 8 must’ve already realized that they were in trouble.
Kurenai could be heard clearing her throat nervously over the crystal speaker, ‘This is my fault-‘
“Which part exactly? The bet that put Hinata and Naruto’s lives in danger or the lies on your team’s member status?” Hiruzen asked bluntly, but when he heard a nervous chuckle he sighed. “Hinata mentioned she only wanted to find information on Naruto so you didn’t have to take pictures and give them to someone. Considering Kakashi is involved and he mentioned a list of women, is it safe to assume that if he wins this bet then the privacy of these women will be violated?”
‘Yes, sir … pictures … and a video of three girls … together.’ Kurenai admitted nervously and the hokage’ s jaw dropped so far it cracked his desk.
Konohamaru, snorted, “He’s jealous.” He whispered knowing very well his perverted grandpa was almost tempted to get in on the bet himself.
Kurama hummed, “and yet he’s a little terrified of the possible backlash.” He pondered as he smelled the emotions wafting off the old perverted hokage. “We have a limited amount of time, Hiruzen. Focus.”
“Right. Right … where was I?” Hiruzen muttered trying to remember why he was arguing against this bet. “Oh, that’s right. The villagers are insane and Hinata’s poking and prodding to get information has made it impossible for Naruto to be safe in the village.”
Hinata paled, “I only needed to get information to prove that Naruto wasn’t lying to Kakashi about how the village treats him. When I found he was lying about where he lived I thought I’d learn more.”
‘He doesn’t live in the building where he took us? Why lie about that?’ Shino asked over the crystal.
‘And what about what we did for him like getting him glasses and clothes? It’s not that bad.’ Kurenai argued.
Konohamaru rolled his eyes, “Naruto has perfect eyesight. He just didn’t want to expose some things, which is also why he used my home.”
‘The boss had a good reason-‘ the sudden sound of a pop implied that the clone.was suddenly dispelled.
‘Shino, that wasn’t fair. I can explain.’ The real Naruto’s voice could be heard whispering into the crystal.
‘No. You be quiet.’ Guren hissed.
Kurenai gasped, ‘Naruto, who is that? Where are-‘
“Hold it!” Hiruzen exclaimed firmly and everyone went silent. “Naruto can’t talk right now. He should be focusing on getting back to Konoha and there may or not be an Akatsuki member nearby and Orochimaru definitely is nearby so he can’t risk talking. In fact, it’s probably not a safe thing for you to be there. Can you start heading back now?”
‘Umm yes, hokage-sama … what do I do with this crystal?’ Kurenai asked.
Hiruzen sighed, “Bring it with. We’ll finish discussing this when you’re all safe in the same room.” He groaned in exasperation as he put the crystal in his drawer. “That went off the rails fast.”
Hinata looked confused, “Why did Shino dispel the clone?”
Kurama smiled, “He seems to be the feisty type.”

“You didn’t have to do that, Shino.” Kiba snapped as he scrambled to put his tent away. “If you didn’t dispel the clone we might’ve learned something.” The dog ninja muttered as he finished packing in record time, but froze when he heard a buzzing behind him. He paled as he slowly turned and saw a wall of insects hissing threateningly at him.
“Shino! There’s no time for this.” Kurenai snapped sharply as she finished packing both hers and Naruto’s tent.
Shino sighed as he finished putting his tent away and placing his bag on his back, “He shouldn’t have used another guy’s house to lie to us.” He said in annoyance. It made him wonder how close Naruto was to the hokage’ s grandson. As he sent a few insects ahead to help lead the way through the darkness and look for signs of any enemies he noticed a concerned look on Kurenai’s face. “It’s ok, sensei. The hokage didn’t say you were in trouble.” He said as the four of them took off into the treetops to return home. Shino was too annoyed with Naruto to be concerned about the blonde at the moment.
“No, but he said we did put Hinata and Naruto in danger and if the Akatsuki are around then that’s very true. If Naruto had to hide even why he was dizzy that day then this situation was far more serious than I ever thought.” Kurenai said as she picked up speed.
Kiba frowned, “It’s not your fault, sensei. You stepped in when you thought you saw something wrong. The bet might’ve started this, but I still don’t think it would’ve been a good idea to just let him be after learning even one of these things.” He said and Akamaru barked. “Akamaru says it’s really Kakashi’s fault for being a dick and pissing you off.” Kiba translated cheerfully. However, after a moment he frowned again. “I hope Hinata is safe. Who would’ve thought digging into the blonde goofball’s business would’ve been dangerous. I guess it explains why he gave us so much trouble and tried to twist everything. He even managed to trick us with those crystals.” Kiba said as he looked at the crystal that matched the gems Naruto just happened to find on the ship. “Actually … if he faked needing glasses is it possible he made the ones he was wearing? The lenses match that crystal.”
“Perhaps.” Kurenai said as she looked at the pink crystal in her hand. “To go to such lengths … when this is over I’m going to neuter him.” She hissed threateningly, but she immediately winced when she heard Akamaru whimper. “I’m sorry, Akamaru. I meant Kakashi, not you.” She exclaimed sheepishly.
Shino sighed as if his anger finally dissipated, “Sensei, what is the Akatsuki?”
“I thought I knew the only secret Naruto could have had to worry about. Now … there’s definitely a lot I’m missing, but I do know that one secret and that it’s illegal to discuss it without permission.” Kurenai breathed a sigh of relief when a bit of starlight was revealed when the clouds passed. It was nice to have a little more light and to know that it won’t rain right away. “Remember when I told you to think of the phrase ‘a scroll is not the kunai’ when it came to Naruto?”
Kiba nodded, “Yeah. You also said the reason why is s … illegal to talk about. Oh, that is also what you thought the only secret would be.”
“I thought … clearly there’s more to it, but anyway. The Akatsuki is a group of S-ranked ninjas who hunt people who have Naruto’s secret.”
The insect user looked at his sensei, “These powerful people … they’re hunting Naruto.”
Kurenai sighed sadly, “Yes, but the hokage seemed unsure about the Akatsuki status. Still Orochimaru is enough of a reason to hurry-Shino!” Kurenai gaped as the insect user sped up to the point that he was almost too far away to see.
Kiba blinked, “Wasn’t he mad at Naruto a minute ago?”
“Doesn’t matter.” Kurenai muttered and picked up the pace. “Let’s hurry and catch up with him before he runs into trouble.”

Danzo sighed when he saw the ROOT team enter the hideout, “It’s good to see that you’re alright, Naruto.” He said as he watched the blonde all but collapse on the chair he offered. It was then he noticed a slight change in Naruto's face. The blonde’s pupils were sharp slits and the young man’s canines were far sharper than normal. “Was it bad enough to use more than 10%?”
“Yeah. I was already pushing it without a decent recovery time so since Utakata would be safe if I did, I decided to use it.” Naruto said and smiled when Kurama and Konohamaru came running in. “Hey.” He said right before getting tackled in a hug courtesy of Konohamaru.
Kurama smiled and kissed the blonde, “You have a skill for getting in trouble.”
Naruto chuckled, “I have noticed. So … where’s Hinata?”
Konohamaru huffed, “We left her in grandpa’s office when she fell asleep. Not sure how she could sleep so easily with everything going on.”
“Really?” Naruto smirked and cocked an eyebrow. “So you weren’t sleeping on a wrinkly pillow up until a minute ago?” He asked as his hand caressed Konohamaru’s right cheek, which had light marks where that side of his face was pressed into a pillow.
Kurama laughed at the massive blush that exploded on Konohamaru’s face, “It was cute. He fell asleep once we slipped away from Hinata and got here to wait for you.” The fox demon smiled as the blushing raven shyly buried his face in Naruto’s chest. “Hiruzen said that everyone will return to his office after you and team 8 rest. The chunin exams will be delayed two hours for this talk.”
“I see.” Naruto said with a sigh before smiling down at Konohamaru. “Are you going to sleep with me? … or do you want to let go?” He chuckled when Konohamaru’s neck turned red with a blush and nuzzled further into the blonde’s chest.

Kakashi looked up from his book just in time to see a flash of some ninjas that looked like team 8, “Hmm that looked like team 8, but I didn’t see Naruto. They looked to be in a hurry too.” He commented wondering where his orange clad student was.
“The idiot probably knocked himself out and now they’re panicking about the bet.” Sasuke said with an amused snort. He was looking forward to Naruto being humiliated and just as much as, if not more so, Kakashi was looking forward to getting his prize …
