“I understand.” Kakashi said knowing she was only looking out for Naruko. He too wanted to avoid scaring her too. Jade told where to go and went ahead as they walked to the sight where they found Barb, some other people and Naruko holding a lantern. He looked into those blue eyes nervously, “Hi, Naruko.”

Naruko looked carefully at the tall silver haired man before her. She’s had the most terrifying nightmares about this meeting. The man wasn’t from or even remotely responsible for her past trauma, but though she understood that it scared her. For all these years she was haunted by a certain cruel specter and the man before her looked exactly like him. Everything from his voice to his stature was the same, but she didn’t see whatever it was that scared her. In fact, she was positive he was the one who was terrified right now.
Kakashi gulped nervously, “I understand if you don’t want to talk to right now, but I’m here if you need me-“ He gasped slightly as she hugged him around his waist. Kakashi nearly broke down in tears he was so relieved. The mere thought of Naruko being scared of him kept him up at nights. Letters were one thing, but this meeting is what worried him the most.
Jade smiled as she watched her daughter hug both Leaf ninjas. At first, this meeting worried her too, but not only did Naruko show no fear towards either of the Konoha ninjas Naruko came back to her for a hug. Maybe it seemed silly, but the thought that the young blonde might want the two men who wanted to be her guardian over her worried her a little.It was clear she’d always be Naruko’ s mother no matter who comes into their lives.
“Ok everyone! Let’s move our camp.” Barb said once she saw that the three hostages could walk, but she still helped them since they were still a bit weak. When they were in the safety of the forest and with the team of three backup ninjas who were helping observe, she let them all settle. As the hostages were looked over by another ninja she took the chance to explain. “We’re happy you three are alright. Just so you know we you technically can’t come to our village-“
“Please don’t take us back to Mist!” Haku yelped suddenly almost in a panic.
The backup ninjas removed their masks making Sana gasp when she saw the woman with green hair and pink eyes, “Tula?” She said surprised to see none other than her mother’s girlfriend.
Haru also gasped, “Gina?” It was a little surprising to see the Queen’s guard there, but then she was Haru’s aunt. With the reveal of their academy sensei as the third member it seems all three of the ninjas were someone they knew.
“We aren’t able to take you to our main village for medical reasons, but we aren’t going to make you go back to Mist.” Tula reported seriously despite ruffling Sana’s hair much to the girl’s annoyance. “We know many places that will take you in and we will be taking you there if you want to go.”
Karin scowled, “We don’t even know why we were taken so why trust you when this could be another trap?”
“There’s a fine line between a healthy dose of skepticism and being blind.” Tula muttered getting some snickers and, of course, a glare from Karin.
Gina smiled, “The people that took you were from Mist-“
“Bullshit! Mist would’ve just killed us!” Karin snapped only to look confused when she saw her fellow hostage, Kimimaro, shake his head.
“I saw them. They were Mist ninjas … except one I think.” Kimimaro said glancing slightly towards Kurama before looking back at the ground.
Barb chuckled when she saw the red haired girl scoff stubbornly, “There’s a lot to war and the need for money is a big issue. You were all going to be taken to a special auction and sold to fund the war. This trip was more complicated than most as this young man noticed.” She gestured to Kimimaro. “Someone decided to pull a double cross to get another man’s attention, but that is neither here nor there now. These three ninjas will be taking you to a place you can call home should you wish to stay. Think about it as you sleep.”
After everyone enjoyed a hot meal and the hostages went into the tents to rest the conversation shifted …
“How bad was the attack?” Tula asked truly serious this time.
Naruko frowned looking just as confused as her teammates, “What attack?” She asked and looked at her mother, Kakashi and Jiraiya since the attention seemed to shift to them.
Jade sighed, “Orochimaru was determined to get them, but Jiraiya, Kakashi and myself were able to force him back.”
The toad sage nodded, “He won’t come back right away. I have no doubt that he needs a new body right now due to the damage, which means it will be three years until he needs another and if I had to guess I’d say he’d go after Sasuke. In two years he’ll graduate and he’d be a weak genin so he’d be easy to catch … unless he finds Kurama I can’t think of him choosing anyone else. It shouldn’t be too easy even though Kakashi is going to take him hostage.”
“Not entirely. As you three learned,” Gina said as she glanced at Naruko, Haru and Sana, ”and that young man … the one who should be sleeping,” she shrugged as Kimimaro quietly joined them. It didn’t matter if he listened. His fellow hostages could join, but they were tired and this didn’t really concern them with Orochimaru being forced to take a different body sooner. “Anyway, that person is working with Danzo. Obviously, he wasn’t an agent since he didn’t have the classic tattoo on the back of his tongue, but he has been spotted dealing with the ROOT agents in Mist. There’s a deal Danzo wants to make with the snake sage, but what that is we don’t know.”
“He was after us …” Kimimaro murmured.
Jiraiya sighed, “It’s disturbing, but he wanted to use your body as his own. He probably won’t be back though. I’m sure he’d assume you won’t be here after today.”
The green eyes looked at the ground thoughtfully, “Is there any way I can help even if I can’t be in your village? Could I go to him?”
Whatever the medical reason that kept him out of Kurama’s home was he doubted he could change it, but a need to be helpful to the people who saved him was too strong to ignore. It also bothered him that Kurama’s name was brought up at all. What did ‘unless he finds Kurama I can’t think of him choosing anyone else.’ mean? Was this body snatching maniac going to use her if she is found?
“Not likely. Besides, it’ll be dangerous and he’s impossible to find when he’s not running. We won’t see him for a while.” Jiraiya said though honestly he did like the idea. Having someone on the inside would be a huge benefit.
“Perhaps we haven’t lost his attention yet.” Barb pulled her three students aside. “Are you three ok?” She asked her students. Having a loved one there made it easier for for each of them, but that was still their first kill.
Haru took a shaky breath, “Yes, sensei.”
“Yeah.” Sana said trying to be indifferent, but Barb could see her shaking slightly.
Naruko nodded, “Yes, sensei.” She said softly.
Barb smiled kindly, “I know. Look at each other.” The three girls looked at each other as instructed. “In a dire situation you will need to kill or the person you’re looking at may die instead. This was a precursor to something like that because if you aren’t prepared you could freeze at the worst moment. Now that you know, are you ready for one more lesson?” The three students nodded and she grinned. “Ok! Follow me! We’re going to expose that innkeeper!”
“Innkeeper?” Jiraiya pondered, but before he and Kakashi could take even one step to follow them Tula tossed them a scroll.
“The innkeeper is tied to a huge human trafficking ring and the auction business.” Tula answered as the two Leaf ninjas looked through evidence in the scroll.
Sana scowled, “The creep was definitely eyeing us.” She smirked looking forward to exposing him.
“We’ll hopefully do more than that.” Barb said seriously and looked at Kimimaro. “Orochimaru is sadistic. He experiments on hundreds of people and will do so to you. You will be made to train and go through a great deal. You are not any obligation to agree. If you do we’ll make you an ally of our village and keep in touch with you. Think carefully because there’s no turning back.”
“I’ll help.” Kimimaro said without a moment of hesitation. The worry in those blue eyes only made him want to help the kind blonde even more. No one ever cared for him before and it meant a great deal.
The ninjas from Cave exchanged looks before nodding …

A man with gold eyes and covered in bandages glared at the man lying on the glowing seals screaming in pain, “What is it, Kabuto?” He asked not looking away from the man he was torturing as his assistant dame into the room.
“There’s some good news, Orochimaru-sama. One of the future hosts you wanted has been seen.” Kabuto yelled over the screams and handed his master the reports in his hand.
There in black and white was a picture of Kimimaro and underneath was a rather interesting article that made Orochimaru smirk, “A slip up with some drugs lead to a kidnap victim finding the strength to kill his captors and get help. The innkeeper was charged for providing the drugs … interesting.”
“The investigation is, of course, still going on so the boy is still in the village. Only him though. There was no mention of the others that should’ve been in the shipment to the auction.” Kabuto commented.
“They most likely escaped once they could. Go get the boy.” Orochimaru ordered eager to have another rare bloodline in his grasp.
“Yes, sir.” Kabuto bowed and quickly left to complete his task, which was easier than before. The teen that Orochimaru wanted was being held in protective custody and was easy to get as a ninja.
“Who are you?” Kimimaro glared as he pointed a sword made from his own arm bone at the assistant’s neck.
Kabuto mentally smirked pleased to see that the teen had some skill, “I’m here to help you and take you to a place where you can grow stronger.” With a few kind words and promises he supposedly succeeded in tricking the teen into come with him.

Danzo scowled at the reports in the trash and looked up as an agent came in, “Tell me you got any of them.” Danzo snapped hoping to have something to keep Orochimaru from taking Sasuke. The Uchiha is meant to take over for him not become the snake’s body. He wanted to offer a rare bloodline in exchange for letting the brat be. If that wasn’t enough he was going to offer up one of Sasuke’ s offspring with the demon brat in the near future. Of course, that plan is also on hold since they couldn’t find her.
“I’m sorry, sir. Kabuto got to the only one found and we couldn’t track the others.” The RIOT agent reported.
The ROOT leader frowned, “Up his training.” He said and the agent left after a bow. If Sasuke was going to complete their plans he’d have to be able to repel a sage and any who wish to defy them by the time he graduates ...
