They had to stop for the hawk to rest once; they arrived just after sunset.
Hara came out to greet them on top of the Fortress. “Fuck, I knew you were itching for a gangbang, Uchiha! I’m so glad you finally agreed!”
“Fuck off,” Sasuke said with a smirk.
Kakashi drew himself up to his full height, trying to intimidate Hara.
Hara looked disappointed. “No dice?”
“Found them?” Sasuke asked.
“Yep. About ten miles to the east. You’re the first to arrive.”
“Kankuro and Temari should be a day or so behind us,” the Captain said. “Everyone else must run here so we have some time. Did you send love notes to the others and the search teams?”
“Well, only to Akihito and Mori. The search teams were just told to regroup here.”
“You invited them to a gangbang too?” Kakashi cringed.
“Yep! Don’t worry, I’m the only one who wants to . . .”
“Gangbang my boyfriend!”
“Well, yeah. Don’t worry, your boyfriend has given me a definite ‘no’. I just want your help killing a few dozen rebels and enemy shinobi.”
“Come to think of it, Genma wanted to gangbang me as well,” Sasuke said thoughtfully.
Kakashi turned his glare on Sasuke.
“You know I won’t cheat on you. If I ever do, you can tear my heart out.”
“That’s a promise.”
“You’re the one I caught practically sniffing a woman’s cleavage the last time we were in Suna.”
Hara cleared his throat. “There’s a Hyuuga among the search teams. Between him and your Sharingans, we’ll have the place scouted in minutes. Our team, plus Kakashi and our ANBU escorts and two of the Sand Siblings, we’ll kill every last one of them within an hour.”
“Half an hour,” Sasuke smirked.
“Are you always so fast? I thought you’d have more staying power than that.”
Kakashi was surprised that Sasuke smiled and nearly laughed. “Oh, I do. When it’s worth it. A gaggle of rebellious children can’t hold my interest.”
“Do none of you Konoha shinobi take anything seriously?” a Suna shinobi said.
Kakashi had never seen this young man with dark gray hair and a scar on his throat and the left side of his jaw, but this man seemed familiar.
“Hn.”
“This is Shira-san,” Hara introduced. “He’s the captain of this fortress, one of Gaara’s most trusted men. This here’s Uchiha Sasuke. The silver haired one is Hatake Kakashi.”
“You can call me Nezumi,” the Captain said.
As Kakashi looked at Shira, he recognized a certain article of clothing. He seemed to be wearing a green jumpsuit under his Suna garb.
“Do you know Mai Gai?” Kakashi asked.
“No, but I know his student, Rock Lee.”
Kakashi smirked. “Taijutsu specialist?”
“I am.”
“Then I guess we can trust in you.”
“As long as your objective is to protect Gaara and Suna you can trust me to support you.”
“I have high expectations for you; I expect you to live up to Lee and Gai’s abilities in the coming battle.”
Shira rubbed the back of his head. “I don’t know if I can live up to that.”
“I never did get my rematch with Lee,” Sasuke mentioned.
“If you need to test yourself against him, do so after the battle,” the Captain said.
Sasuke was still holding his sword from dismounting from his hawk; he handed his sword to Kakashi. He pulled a foot back and took up a stance. Shira took up his own stance.
The Captain sighed and stepped back. Kakashi remembered Sasuke’s fight against that Sound-nin in the Chunin Exams, how Sasuke had copied Lee’s technique and adapted it. Even if the Sharingan couldn’t completely copy taijutsu, it allowed Sasuke to see everything and use his own talent to mimic it, make it his own.
They didn’t start with weak, testing blows, they went in fast and hard. If one had been a genin, they would have at least four broken bones with the first set of hits. Once they finished a little “getting to know you” dance, they pulled out their more specialized and idiosyncratic moves. They were well matched in strength.
Kakashi didn’t uncover his Sharingan, just watched naturally. Therefore, at the speeds they were reaching, he couldn’t see every move and blow, nor could he really see their faces well. He knew they were making contact, but they were blocking nearly everything.
Then Sasuke decided their fight needed to end.
Sasuke ducked and pressed against the ground to kick Shira into the air, then he leapt up and performed the dancing leaf shadow. He turned him in midair to kick him in the side. Shira blocked, but Sasuke used that momentum to slam his hand into Shira’s chest, then flipped to slam his heel into Shira’s stomach, accelerating him into the ground. Shira was able to bring up his arms with their armor to block and Sasuke didn’t use even half his strength, so Shira’s landing wasn’t devastating. It was a Lion’s Barrage, but a weak one. It was enough for Shira to remain motionless to end the fight. Kakashi had to smile that he used the technique he learned from Lee to defeat this other taijutsu specialist.
Sasuke backed off and Shira rose up to kneel. “You are strong,” Shira said. “You didn’t use a single ninjutsu, your Sharingan, or your sword. Thank you.”
Sasuke shifted and his shirt fell from his shoulder revealing a red mark covering most of his chest. Kakashi knew that would become a dark bruise in a day. Shira was capable of putting a mark on Sasuke. Kakashi wondered if Lee could do the same. If so, Gai should be proud.
“Luckily, we both have a few days to recover,” Sasuke said.
“That was kinda hot,” Hara admitted.
Kakashi and the Captain looked at Hara in disbelief.
“Ignore him,” Sasuke said. “He’s not entirely lying, but he’s enjoying riling Kakashi up.” Sasuke extended a hand to Shira and helped him to his feet. “Let’s get settled. We have to wait for at least Akihito and Mori.”
Shira and Hara led the way downstairs. They’d already set aside rooms for the incomers. Hara knew Sasuke and Kakashi would want to room together, so they were given one with a larger bed. It was still a small room and would have felt claustrophobic if they weren’t so intimate. The rooms here were no more than a bedroom, no private bathrooms except for the permanent shinobi.
They let the Captain use the communal bathroom to bathe first while they unpacked. He knocked on their door to let them know it was free. The pair went in together. Kakashi searched the room.
“I don’t think Hara’s in here,” Sasuke said.
“I expected him to try to peek or offer to wash your back or something.”
“He knows not to try that anymore.”
“Anymore?”
“Relax. He’s only joking. He does desire me, but he knows he can’t compare to you. I’m used to his sense of humor. Please, tolerate him.”
“Humph.”
“I’ll wash your back.”
“Bribing me?”
Sasuke didn’t answer, he helped Kakashi strip. Kakashi’s ribs were only a little tender now. Because his advanced leg had been destroyed, he only had his metal peg leg, so he didn’t have to change it before they entered the shower.
Because of the lack of water up here, the water pressure was low. They showered quickly, but Sasuke did scrub his lover’s back as promised. Kakashi did the same. There was a bench in this communal shower. Kakashi sat down and Sasuke took off the leg to wash his knee. Once they shut off the water, they felt freer to be intimate, but being a communal bathroom, they dried and made their way back to their room in only a pair of robes provided for them.
As soon as they were safely in their room, Kakashi pulled Sasuke to him and kissed him. He ran his fingers over the darkening mark Shira had left on Sasuke’s chest. It wasn’t a serious wound; Kakashi had left much worse on him, but Kakashi was possessive. His own marks were one thing, someone else’s was another thing entirely.
His other hand drifted down to Sasuke’s groin. He fingered his dark pelt, admiring the somewhat smooth hairs. His scrotum was nearly hairless, and it was plump with sexual denial. He didn’t even need to touch Sasuke’s cock for it rise.
Sasuke’s robe fell from his shoulders and pooled at his feet. Kakashi stepped a little closer, his hand going to Sasuke’s hip, their erections touching as they continued to kiss. It had been too long since they had sex. If they abstained for one more night, they both would be plagued with wet dreams.
Kakashi pulled him closer so that the very act of breathing rubbed their cocks together. He rocked to get even more friction. He wanted to draw this out. He wanted this to last all night. Then again, he could probably go for three or four rounds. Sasuke was a young man, he could go that long.
“I can’t wait any longer,” Kakashi admitted. “I need to fuck you.”
“Well, you need to wait at least until you loosen me up; it’s been a while.” He grabbed one of his pouches and pulled out lubricant. “Oh, this too.” He presented Kakashi with a wrapped condom.
“Really? Why? We’ve never once used one.”
“No private bathroom. It’s up to you if you want to run to the community bathroom nude with your dick in your hand to clean up. As for me, I snatched a towel. I don’t need to clean up as much as you. I packed some condoms since I figured we might end up having sex where there was little water. You are sticking your cock in my ass.”
Kakashi sighed and accepted the condom. It had been quite some time since he used one. “Sex with women is more hygienic, but at least I don’t have to worry about knocking you up.”
When Sasuke didn’t respond, Kakashi looked up to see Sasuke’s expression had fallen.
“What?” Kakashi asked.
“I wish you could knock me up. Make rebuilding my clan a whole lot easier. The idea of our bloodlines mixing is also appealing.”
“But if that were true, I’d probably have to wear condoms more often. Wouldn’t want you constantly pregnant,” he joked.
“Hn. True.” His expression regained it seductive edge.
“Don’t make me throw you on the bed; I don’t know this bed well enough to know how hard to throw you.”
“Hn.” Sasuke crawled on the bed, exposing his bare ass to his lover.
Kakashi was on him quickly, his mouth going straight for a supple ass cheek. He licked the near perfect skin as he brought a hand up to caress him. Sasuke shivered at the intimate touch.
Kakashi was frantic. He lubed his whole hand in his rush. He teased Sasuke open.
“Don’t you like it rough?” Kakashi asked with desperation.
“Rough, not agonizingly painful.”
“I fucked you as a virgin with little lube and slight bit of hatred. Fucking you now shouldn’t hurt.”
Sasuke looked over his shoulder. “Do you have any hatred in your heart for me right now?” The bastard was practically simpering. He had a small pout going and his eyes were as close to doe eyes an Uchiha could come. Scratch that. Kakashi remembered Itachi had large eyes that often looked doleful when he was young. This was as close as this Uchiha could come.
“Only a small flicker that you’re making me wait.”
“I think I’m ready.”
Kakashi didn’t waste any time moving into position. He tried not to rush though. But slipping into his lover was the best feeling. Sasuke was well used to this by now, slicked up and a little prep, he gave very little resistance to Kakashi’s thrust, but he was still tight. Sasuke groaned at the feeling, lowering his head to the pillow.
Kakashi remained still when he was fully engulfed by Sasuke’s body, relishing the sensation, the condom dulling the sensation a little, but he could live with it for now. He ran his hands down Sasuke’s back, feeling his warm, smooth skin. His hands now at Sasuke’s hips, he took hold of them and started to move. Slowly at first, then he built up a good pace.
Kakashi pulled on Sasuke’s shoulder, prompting Sasuke to push himself up toward Kakashi’s chest, one hand on the bed. Kakashi ran a hand down Sasuke’s chest then back up, just feeling his body. Sasuke sighed and twisted his hips for more sensation. Kakashi’s hand continued to explore the younger man’s body as he thrust into him using his ass muscles more than his hips or back to press into him.
Sasuke gasped when Kakashi teased his right nipple. He started sighing with every thrust and flick. He stretched his arm over his head hooking back toward Kakashi. His aim was miserable like this, but Kakashi eased his head under his arm and let him tighten his grip, Sasuke’s flexibly coming in handy. Kakashi inhaled the fresh smell of Sasuke’s hair as his face was pulled into it. He stopped thrusting and Sasuke took over, pushing his ass back into Kakashi’s hips.
Sasuke dropped his arm. Once his hand hit the bed, Kakashi thrust into him so hard, Sasuke’s arms collapsed and he face planted into the pillow with a groan. His hips were still raised, but Kakashi pushed his weight on his hips, using his weight to fuck Sasuke with more force. Sasuke pressed his hips up to withstand the assault, but soon, Kakashi’s thrusts became too much and Sasuke let his hips fall to the mattress, his knees sliding against the sheet, giving him a light friction burn.
Kakashi licked Sasuke’s shoulder blade. Sasuke turned his head and they kissed sloppily until Sasuke’s neck grew tired of the odd angle.
He really liked taking Sasuke from behind, but he wanted to see Sasuke, see his body and his face wrapped by lust. He pulled out. “Turn over.” Sasuke quickly obeyed.
Sasuke spread his legs, showing off his plump erection. He was looking up at Kakashi with desperation. Kakashi guided his cock to Sasuke waiting entrance. He gave only a dozen trusts before he put his hands on either side of Sasuke’s chest, leaning over him and looking straight down at Sasuke’s face. Sasuke’s eyes were blurry and affectionate, his mouth open and panting, his nostrils flared with the need to breathe with the cock inside him forcing his breath out of his lungs.
Kakashi then leaned in to kiss him, his hips hardly missing a beat. Sasuke licked at Kakashi’s lips when his thrusting made him lose contact. He grabbed at Kakashi’s wild white hair and tried to keep his mouth attached to his.
As much as Kakashi wanted to spend all night with Sasuke, he was desperate to get off after so many days without sex. He couldn’t properly thrust from this position and braced himself on straight arms again to increase the power behind his thrusts.
Kakashi groaned, his pace breaking as he came closer to release. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I’m going to cum. I can’t stop.”
“Cum inside me,” Sasuke whispered back.
Kakashi was moving hard inside him, battering his insides. Sasuke could feel his prostate throb against Kakashi’s hardness. His eyes rolled back even before he came. “I love you, Kakashi,” he whispered.
“I love you,” Kakashi responded, panting. He gave one more thrust and paused, his cock pulsing with several hard shots of hot, thick cum. He could feel every muscle in his groin and abdomen convulsing, forcing out his semen. His hips drew back and then pressed back in a few times, cherishing a few last thrusts before he was done.
Sasuke moved his own hips, so close to his own climax. Feeling Kakashi’s cock throbbing inside him, it only took a few thrusts of his dripping cock against Kakashi’s abdomen to make him shoot. His neck strained as Sasuke turned his head to the side in response to his climax.
Neither moved as afterglow ran through them. Kakashi kissed him on the cheek weakly, laying his body on Sasuke’s. Sasuke slowly opened his eyes. Lifting his hand to Kakashi’s hair was an effort. They both wanted this moment to last forever even if they were damp with sweat and the heat was unpleasant. The closeness, the intimacy, the sharing of this pleasure and the endorphins running through their blood wiped the world away. Right now, they weren’t in the Land of Wind or Fire or anywhere that mattered. No one else in the world existed. For several minutes, there was nothing beyond this bed.
Kakashi pushed himself up with one arm. “Are you in pain?” he asked, looking down into Sasuke’s tired, blissed face.
“I’m fine.”
Kakashi looked doubtful.
“A little ache. It’s been too long since I felt your size. What about your ribs?”
“Just a twinge.”
Kakashi turned onto his side to peel the sullied condom from his cock, tied it, and threw it into the trash.
Kakashi then hovered over Sasuke. “Why does someone so obsessed with power like lying on his back? Letting me fuck you and . . . Why?”
“You think I’m powerless under you?” Sasuke raised his knees and hooked his legs on Kakashi’s hips and wrapped his arms around his neck. “I allow you to fuck me. I ask for it. I’m the one who makes you cum and moan and sucks the energy out of you. I excite you and attract you. You also don’t understand possessing power. I own one of the most powerful shinobi ever to live. I have tremendous power here.”
Kakashi was stunned. “Even if that’s not true, the fact you think that of me . . .” He kissed Sasuke.
“You are nigh a god to me. I love you more than you can understand.”
“I think I understand. I love you too, more than I can describe.”
“Good, I want you to fuck me again.”
Kakashi smiled. “I love you, you little slut.”
“No, slut implies promiscuity.”
Kakashi wasn’t recovered yet; neither was Sasuke. They kissed. A deep and loving kiss. Kakashi stopped to look down at him. Sasuke knew him well enough to know the tilt of his head meant he wanted Sasuke to touch his face. Sasuke caressed his cheek. Kakashi rubbed his face into that hand.
Sasuke squirmed down a bit to grab Kakashi’s cock with his other hand. Kakashi groaned, his cock twitching and hardening at the touch. His face and cock being caressed at the same time was heavenly. He started humping Sasuke’s hand slowly. He loved the way Sasuke pet him, brushing his hair away then stroking his cheek. His fingers hesitated over his mole, teasing it. Sasuke ran his thumb across his lips, making him shutter, they were so sensitive.
When Sasuke ran his fingers back down his face and played with his mole again, Kakashi turned to capture his finger gently in his teeth then gave it a small lap with his tongue.
“I’m ready to fuck you,” Kakashi whispered. “I want to fill you.”
Sasuke let go of his cock and lifted a fresh condom to Kakashi’s view. He growled but took it and turned onto his back to put it on. Sasuke turned to mount him. He licked at Kakashi’s nipple, rubbing his lips against it, then sucking it. Kakashi moaned in pleasure.
Sasuke grabbed the second pillow and Kakashi lifted his head to let Sasuke put it behind his head. Sasuke reached behind him to guide Kakashi’s cock into his ass. They were on the edge of the bed, Sasuke put his right foot down on the floor, his other knee over next to Kakashi’s waist. He bounced on Kakashi’s cock until the slapping against Kakashi’s thighs made his ass chafe. He brought his leg up and leaned down to kiss Kakashi, the two pillows made it easier to reach Kakashi’s mouth while keeping his cock inside him.
Kakashi grabbed Sasuke’s ass cheeks and started lifting his hips to fuck him. That made Sasuke’s body move too much to continue to kiss and he just gasped and sighed against Kakashi’s face, spiking Kakashi’s lust even more.
As good at Sasuke being on top was, Kakashi’s thighs were not happy with the work out. He grabbed Sasuke around the back and rolled them over, his cock never falling from Sasuke’s hole. Kakashi pounded into him.
Sasuke put his hands on Kakashi’s neck as Kakashi fucked him. Sasuke’s neck strained as his prostate was hit repeatedly. He was sure his insides were bruised. Not that he cared.
Kakashi’s left eye normally stayed closed by pure habit, but now it eased open. Sasuke didn’t like seeing a Sharingan; it reminded him of things he didn’t want to think of. He stroked the lower part of Kakashi’s scar with his thumb. That caused Kakashi to shut his eye, not realizing that Sasuke’s was doing that on purpose, misinterpreting that as merely an affectionate gesture.
Kakashi couldn’t take much more and fucked Sasuke even harder making the bed creak with the force of his thrusts. Sasuke whined at the rough treatment, but in no way tried to make Kakashi slow down or stop. He grabbed his own cock and stroked himself to completion. Kakashi wasn’t too far behind, unleashing a torrent of cum into the condom.
Kakashi flopped over onto his back again, unhappily stripping off the second condom and tossing it away.
“Did you come?” Kakashi asked.
“Yeah,” Sasuke sighed.
“Good.”
“I love you.”
Kakashi spooned Sasuke. “I adore you.”
Sasuke put his hand on Kakashi’s arm and fell asleep.
-----
They both woke up at the knock on the door. Sasuke opened it to Hara.
“What is it?”
“It’s easier if you come see.”
“No, don’t pull that ‘you need to see for yourself’ bullshit. What is it?”
“Gaara’s here.”
Sasuke and Kakashi never dressed so fast. They ran out to the main hall of the fortress. There was Gaara with both his siblings. Most of the rest of the shinobi, Suna and Konoha, were there as well.
“Lord Kazakage,” Sasuke said, “what are you doing here?”
“Your team found the rebels; I’m not going sit behind a desk while you handle them.”
“Yes, you are. You’re the one we’re all trying to protect. You will stay here while we clear out their base. You die, we all lose. I will not have you injured either.”
Gaara stood and absorbed Sasuke’s protest. “You’re right. I’ll stay here while you attack.”
“Akihito is the one who is truly in charge of the Konoha shinobi, but he’s not here yet. I have a strategy to propose in case he doesn’t arrive today.”
Gaara nodded for him to proceed.
“The sensors and I should go in first to find any guards and the entrances. The rest will follow including Kankuro. Temari and Kakashi will remain here to guard you along with the fortress’ normal defenders. They will man stations all around the base, Temari and Kakashi at your side as your bodyguards.”
Kakashi couldn’t stop himself from looking over at Sasuke in surprise, a little offended, but he didn’t object. In public.
Gaara gave it thought. “I approve of this plan. You will command the vanguard, Akihito the rest of the shinobi if he arrives in time, and I will command here.”
“We should prepare to attack tonight,” Sasuke said. “We can’t risk them knowing you’ve come here. The Kazakage can’t move around easily without being noticed.”
Gaara agreed.
The group broke apart, but Kankuro approached Kakashi with a package.
“Your new leg.”
“Oh, thank you.”
“My finest work. Well, that’s not a puppet.”
“Thank you so much. I’ll need it tonight.”
“Thank you, Kankuro,” Sasuke added with a short bow.
Kankuro was a little embarrassed by Sasuke’s thanks. “You’re welcome. You guys are doing so much to protect my little brother, so I really want to pay you back in some way.”
“That isn’t necessary,” Sasuke said, “but it is appreciated.”
Kankuro went after his brother and Sasuke headed for the kitchen, Kakashi trailing him. They were alone as Sasuke sought out a late breakfast.
“I’m healed enough; I should go with you.” He set the new leg on the table.
“If they know or suspect Gaara’s here, you will be attacked. I want the best at his side to protect him. And I don’t know if I trust your leg in the sand.”
Alright, that made sense.
Sasuke turned to face his lover. “Trust me, I know you can fight. You slaughtered a room of shinobi without a leg. Keeping you here isn’t a slight against you. I want you defending the Kazakage. You defend the King.” He turned to find food again.
“I define the King differently.” Kakashi put his arms around him. “I’d rather defend my King.”
Sasuke hummed with amusement. Kakashi stepped back to allow Sasuke to continue foraging.
“Mostly small birds,” Sasuke commented. “Not a lot of vegetables or even rice around here.”
“Hate to say it, but they’re probably hawks being the desert.”
“They have snake too. I feel oddly . . . persecuted.”
Kakashi laughed. “As long as they don’t eat dog up here.”
Sasuke didn’t need to say anything, Kakashi got an idea of what Sasuke was thinking by his eyes.
“I don’t mind eating snake,” Sasuke said before he realized what he’d just said. “We’re eating roast hawk.”
-----
Sasuke was summoned to meeting a few hours later. He smirked at seeing Akihito there. Mori and Hara were there as well.
“Gaara-sama told me about your plan,” Akihiko said. “I approve. I also reprimanded Hara for his message. He shouldn’t be trying to egg Kakashi-san on so much. But it’s a good code, so we will continue to use it, just not when Kakashi-san might see it.”
The four of them sat down. “You mentioned tran—I mean, foreign shinobi. Which village?”
“Kakashi encountered Iwa shinobi,” Sasuke said.
“The ones we saw were Taki,” Hara said.
“Kakashi and I believe the Iwa shinobi was a loan or here to see what was going on. They aren’t true allies to the rebels.”
“Good. At least we don’t have to deal with Iwa.”
“Iwa probably won’t be happy,” Sasuke said. “Pakkun practically bit off her nose.”
Hara laughed.
-----
Kakashi geared up with Suna ANBU armor while Sasuke wore his usual outfit. Kakashi had a few hours to practice with his new leg and it wasn’t much different from his old one.
“Be careful,” Kakashi cautioned once they were ready. “There might be Iwa-nin in there.”
Sasuke wasn’t offended by Kakashi’s concern. “Be careful yourself. You’ll probably be attacked.” The smile wasn’t reassuring.
They were among the last to arrive at the staging area.
“Vanguard,” Sasuke said, “with me. As we get close, scout the area and find all the entrances we can.”
“The rest of you,” Akihiko said, “spread out with the vanguard, but stay back while they scout, then join them in storming the base. Kill everyone.”
“The fortress personnel will remain here,” Shira said. “Be on guard in case someone escapes the attack team. They might think most of us were in the attack group. Lord Gaara will remain here under our protection with Temari-san and Kakashi-san.”
Really, when one thought about it, Gaara, Temari, and Kakashi were an amazingly powerful group. You add Shira with his powerful taijutsu and the rest of his shinobi, this fortress was now a meat grinder.
“Scatter!” Akihiko ordered.
-----
Sasuke and the rest of the vanguard identified two entrances. They split into two groups and the attack team behind them did the same, advancing to join their fellows. Kankuro lead the force gathering behind Sasuke and his sensor team.
Sasuke didn’t try to sneak in or knock on the door, he blasted it away with his Chidori. He let it continue to spark around his fist as he entered the base. He killed a sentry who was too startled by his entrance to defend himself. Sasuke moved deeper, not deactivating the chirping lightning.
He came out into a large main room where a handful of shinobi were congregated. He activated Chidori Nagashi, wreathing himself in deadly lightning. The fools who attacked him didn’t think the current covering Sasuke’s body was very dangerous, but when they came into contact with the high-powered technique their bodies seized up, muscles tightening and stiffening painfully, and dropped to the ground. They were easy prey to the men coming in behind Sasuke.
Sasuke let the current subside and took out his sword. He wielded it with a beautiful flourish that belied to absolute deadliness of his skill. Expressionless, he cut through bodies as if they were air, like he was merely going through katas, not registering any resistance against his blade.
Kankuro rushed past him, a puppet with many arms beside him. Sasuke normally held less respect for puppet users because they didn’t experience real battle, they tended to stay back concealed, never being injured or encountering actual danger. Kankuro was different in his opinion. He wasn’t just biased because Kankuro was helping Kakashi, he’d read many reports about Kankuro’s skills and the fights he took part in over the years—being Orochimaru’s favorite had its advantages. The man could fight; though, most of the time he put himself out there it ended up being a puppet fighting and the puppet was really him. That put Kankuro out in the fray, put himself at risk. Sasuke respected that. Sasuke also used a variety of tools that separated him from his enemies just like the puppets: his sword, Susanno, and genjutsu. And, here, the puppet master was right alongside his puppet, not hiding behind it.
Kankuro and his puppet tore into half a dozen men, ripping them to pieces. Those thin, wooden arms contained serrated blades; Sasuke had no doubt they were poisoned.
Sasuke personally killed nine men, Kankuro seven, the shinobi behind them killing an additional eight, all within the first minute of the attack. Screams alerted the rest of the base to the invasion. Sasuke twirled his sword as the first wave came out of the warrens. He reminded himself that these people had tried to kill not only him but his lover as well. He would show no mercy.
-----
Kakashi stared out at the dark desert, seeing nothing even with his Sharingan; the enemy base was too far away behind at least one large dune.
Temari tested her fan to ensure it opened smoothly in case they were attacked. Gaara stood with his arms crossed, expression unreadable.
The rest of the shinobi were on the walls all around the fortress, prepared to engage attacks from any direction except this direct line to the base.
Kakashi rubbed his fingers together. He wanted to be out there. He resisted the urge to pace, trying to remain calm and reserve his energy. If they were attacked, they would be those who were powerful enough to get through the strike team. But that might also mean, they killed the strike team. He wanted to pace like a tiger in a cage. He was ready to murder anyone who approached. If Sasuke was harmed, he’d turn this desert to glass with his lightning and fire. He would destroy any survivors.
-----
Sasuke couldn’t help but smile when a kunoichi leapt toward him with a sword raised high. He held his sword horizontal to catch her blade on his. His sinister smile didn’t perturb the female swordsman. She merely snarled and pressed forward with all her strength. He was impressed: she was nearly as strong as he was. It was a waste to kill a woman with her strength and skill. That didn’t stop him from pushing her away and swiping at her stomach.
She was skilled. Despite the challenge she posed, he wasn’t caught off guard by others attacking him. He tossed some Chidori Senbon at a man who tried to take advantage of the heated battle.
After some minutes, Sasuke finally spotted an opening and cut down through her neck, his sword stopped by her sternum. He put a foot on the dying woman’s chest as she fell to pull his sword out of the bone.
As Sasuke flicked the kunoichi’s blood from his blade, he called out to his comrades, “Make sure none escape and get to Gaara.”
At first, those around him thought he was an idiot. But then they realized that if any did escape, they would now head for the stronghold rather than scatter. Then Gaara with his two bodyguards would slaughter them.
-----
The Sharingan could see chakra, so even in the darkness of the nighttime desert, Kakashi could see four shinobi approaching.
“Incoming,” he said.
“Ours?” Temari asked.
“I doubt it.”
All three of them readied for combat. Kakashi backed up from the edge of the roof.
As the first man jumped up from the sand to the wall to the roof, Kakashi crouched and activated his Chidori. Kakashi jumped, driving his sparking hand through the descending man’s chest. In Kakashi’s left hand, he held a kunai which he used to the block the man’s sword. He was dead before he hit the ground.
The other three made it onto the roof. A sand wall came up to block the multiple kunai thrown at Gaara. The sand dropped and Temari immediately swung her closed fan to hit one of the men in the face, snapping his neck. Kakashi jumped back so she could freely use her wind jutsu. She opened her fan and swung it, the wind cutting and tearing into flesh. Kakashi sent his Chidori Hound after one man while Temari sent a concentrated gust of wind from her fan into the other, bisecting him. Kakashi’s hound took only a moment to kill its target.
Temari and Kakashi were breathing deeply, but not panting. Gaara stood as if nothing had happened at all.
Kakashi straightened and looked out over the desert again. “More are coming.”
-----
Sasuke and two other sensors searched the base for any stragglers. They found only four. They came back out to the main room which stank of blood to find only their comrades were left standing.
“Report,” Akihiko commanded Sasuke.
“Killed four more who tried to ambush us. No one else in the complex.”
“Hara?” Akihiko turned to his other teammate.
“We lost four, two badly wounded. So far, we’ve counted thirty-seven enemies. Some did escape into the desert. It looks like they were all headed to the fortress.”
“Kakashi and Temari will have eviscerated them by now,” Sasuke said.
“Agreed,” Akihiko said.
“Mori, take two and search for information. The rest of us will bring our dead and injured back to the fortress.”
“My puppets can carry the bodies,” Kankuro offered.
Akihiko nodded. “We should rush the injured, but otherwise, no hurry; I doubt we’ll be in time to interrupt a fight.”
“Hn.”
-----
The second wave was seven strong. It was well known that Temari used wind style, Gaara used earth, and Kakashi used lightning. The way these seven spread out made it clear they quickly took stock of their opponents and arrayed against them with the proper chakra natures. They were wise and adaptive. But so were Kakashi and the Sand Siblings.
Two men against Temari, two against Kakashi, three against Gaara. Kakashi and the Siblings were not close, nor had they ever fought alongside each other, but they knew enough.
Temari used her fan as a shield when her opponents attacked with fire jutsu. Gaara’s sand shot out but diverted to the men facing off with Temari, wrapping around them and preparing to squeeze the life from them. His own attackers both created lightning bolts and sent them at Gaara, expecting him to raise his sand shield which their lightning would crumble. Kakashi created two clones and his real body jumped in front of Gaara, using his Raikiri to cut the enemy lightning while his clones attacked the men arranged against him. Temari swung her fan at the lightning users who attacked her brother which blew them off balance. Kakashi ran in and took out the off-balance men with his Raikiri. He jumped up onto the sand coffin enclosing Temari’s opponents while Temari used her wind scythe, destroying Kakashi’s clones and killing one man. Kakashi leapt down from the sand coffin with ease. They cut through five men within half a minute. Two left.
“Temari,” Kakashi called. She jumped to Kakashi’s side. Kakashi released the Grand Fireball jutsu and Temari literally fanned the flames creating an inferno. Gaara cut off the enemies escape with his sand, with no way to go but up. One man used his fellow to jump above the blaze, pushing his partner down into the conflagration. Kakashi once again jumped up onto Gaara’s sand and used it as a launching point, cutting off the last man’s head with a Raikiri that made his arm into a sword. Temari used her fan to blow the inferno away as Gaara dropped his sand so Kakashi would land on a hot, but safe, surface. Even with Kakashi’s false leg, he was able to flip away before the heat of the roof burned through his sandals.
Distracted by this fight, they were caught unaware by another shinobi who had come in after this group. Kakashi raised a kunai, Gaara readied his sand, and Temari brought up her fan.
Something darted in front of Kakashi; it was so sudden Kakashi didn’t have time to react, would have attacked it had it been any slower. The enemy shinobi was kicked in the chin, sending him flying almost perfectly upward. A white figure was underneath the shinobi, it revolved around him and kicked downward with a sparking, chirping heel into the man’s stomach, sending him toward the ground at great speed. If there was any doubt who that white shape was, the sparking of the Chidori eliminated it. The man hit the ground with Sasuke’s Chidori creating a hole in his chest.
Sasuke leapt away; he’d landed on the super-heated roof, burning a hole in his pant leg, but he escaped with only a small burn in his knee. “Fuck!” Sasuke slapped at the smoking cloth.
Kakashi and Gaara breathed a sigh of relief.
“It’s done?” Gaara asked.
“Yeah,” Sasuke said. “This was the last one. We killed everyone in the base. Several escaped but headed here. I believe we killed them all.”
Akihiko landed nearby. “All enemies have been eliminated.”
“Eh, Akihiko, your sandals are starting to melt,” Sasuke said.
“Huh?” He looked down then danced away.
-----
The sensors took shifts guarding the fortress and scanning the area for any others who might have escaped them.
Sasuke barely showered, just letting the showerhead rinse his body, then he was dried and in bed. He was asleep before Kakashi finished his own shower; Kakashi had remained above to confer with Gaara and Akihiko. Naked under a sheet, Sasuke’s head turned to the side, and an arm thrown to the same side, Sasuke was lovely and the picture of exhaustion. He might have even been defenseless. Once Sasuke went below, Akihiko told Kakashi that Sasuke had rushed back to the fortress once they cleared the base, worried about his lover. If Sasuke wasn’t exhausted by that point, he was after that run and his Chidori Lion’s Barrage.
But as Kakashi looked down at his sleeping lover, he worried about him. He didn’t like to kill, but he’d just killed at least a dozen people. One, right in front of Kakashi. He didn’t seem bothered by it. Yet, it was unusual for Sasuke to just walk away like he did. He didn’t say another word to Gaara or Kakashi or Akihiko after teasing Akihiko about his melting sandals, he just went below, took a shower, and went to bed.
Sasuke had sprawled enough on the bed that Kakashi was afraid of waking him if Kakashi tried to move his arm. Kakashi fully dressed.
Sasuke wasn’t the only one who fled to their room when they got back. The fortress was quiet now. It was only a few scant hours before dawn.
He was a bit hungry, so Kakashi headed to the kitchen. There he found Hara leaning against a wall munching on some bread.
“Sasuke asleep?” he asked.
“Yeah. He’s completely passed out.”
“He really kicked ass tonight.”
“Tell me something, when he kills people on missions with you guys, does it seem to affect him at all?”
Hara thought about it. “No, not that I’ve noticed. I mean, we know he doesn’t like it, but he’s never hesitated or seemed any different afterward. Why?”
“He doesn’t normally go to sleep before I’m even in the room; I wondered if that was normal when he’s killed people.”
“No, it isn’t. He bolted across the desert. I saw him in a sword fight, and I could hear that Chidori chirping. He probably is worn out. He might have done more killing than anyone else tonight.”
Kakashi looked for something to eat.
“Hey,” Hara said, “I want to make sure we’re cool. You know I’m not really trying to steal him away from you. I find him hot, but I know he’s all yours. You can trust him, even if you don’t trust me.”
“I understand. I trust him. We’re cool.”
“But if you ever do feel like a threesome . . .”
Kakashi huffed. He found a muffin. “I think we’re stretching this fortress’ resources.”
“A few of the guys were going to gather the rebel food stocks and bring them here. Everyone’s going to want breakfast.”
“Some of us will have to do with food pills.”
“But we’ll be going home soon. I’m looking forward to some time off.”
“It’s nice to be out of retirement for a while. I think I might actually miss Suna.”
“I won’t. I don’t want to see sand again in my life. I ain’t coming back unless Tsunade threatens to have Sasuke eviscerate me if I don’t accept a mission.”
“Or if he promises you a blowjob to return here?”
“That would make me come back,” Hara agreed.
“Good night, Hara-san.”
“Good night, Kakashi-sama.”
Kakashi found that Sasuke had rolled up on his once extended arm, leaving a sliver of bed empty behind him. Kakashi striped and laid down. Sasuke inhaled nosily but didn’t wake up. They didn’t strictly have ‘sides’ but Kakashi was used to sleeping closer to the door and now Sasuke was in his spot. It felt a little strange, but he easily fell asleep.
-----
Kakashi sometimes suspected that Sasuke would sleep for several days straight if he wasn’t required to wake up for work. He wasn’t awake when Kakashi awoke even though he fell asleep long before he did.
Kakashi rubbed Sasuke’s upper arm to wake him. Sasuke moaned and nearly snarled.
“Are you alright?” Kakashi asked.
Sasuke moaned, but he sat up.
Kakashi sat up next to him. “You are fully recovered from being poisoned, right?”
“Hn,” he answered in the affirmative.
“Were you poisoned last night?”
“Hn,” he answered in the negative.
Kakashi mused Sasuke’s hair. “Then why so sleepy?”
Sasuke gave a slight shake of his head, not answering. Rather, he just turned and wrapped his arms around his lover and let his weight drop them to the bed. Arms still around him, Sasuke also curled his leg over Kakashi’s, snuggling into him.
Honestly, Kakashi didn’t feel a need to get up. He was hungry after his sparce snack last night and the fight before, but a meal could wait.
They slept together often, they touched each other routinely, but there were times like this when he marveled at being able to touch him and hold him.
Sasuke slept while Kakashi dozed until someone knocked on their door. Sasuke groaned and Kakashi had to pull him away like a blanket. He sat up, turned on the side lamp, and put on his rudimentary leg. He wore boxers, so he was dressed enough to find out what their visitor wanted.
It was one of the fortress’ Suna shinobi. “Lord Gaara is asking after Sasuke-san.”
“He’ll be along shortly.”
Once Sasuke heard the door shut, he let out a groan.
This level of lethargy was new to Kakashi. Sasuke certainly lazed around their home and hated waking up in the mornings, but this was a new form of fatigue that concerned him.
Sasuke did get up and begin searching for his clothes. Once dressed, he stretched to move the blood through his veins to wake up. They didn’t have their own bathroom, so he couldn’t wash up immediately. He’d showered last night, so he forwent heading to the communal bathroom.
As soon as they left their room, Sasuke looked completely normal, his face closed off and his posture perfect. Even though he was the elder, Kakashi took his position flanking his lover. Officially, he was a civilian again. He might have been a shinobi last night, but he was a civilian this morning. He wore his Konoha uniform without his borrowed Suna ANBU armor. Sasuke hardly ever wore a uniform and he didn’t wear it now.
They found Gaara and his siblings near the entrance, preparing to leave.
“Are you alright?” Gaara asked. Kakashi wasn’t the only one who was concerned by how long Sasuke slept.
“Nearly exhausted my chakra,” Sasuke answered. “I’m nearly recovered.”
Gaara nodded. “I’ve spoken with Akihiko; I want all your people to come to Suna to receive my official thanks. You can rest there as long as you like before returning to Konoha. I know you’ve been away from home for some time, but I want everyone to know how much your people helped our village and country.”
Both Konoha shinobi understood the politics that needed to be observed. “It will be our pleasure,” Sasuke said.
“I must set out now; a Kage can’t be away from the village for long.”
“We’ll see you in a few days then.”
Gaara glanced at Kakashi. Tamari nodded to Sasuke and smirked at Kakashi. Kankuro nodded to both of them with respect.
Once they were gone, Sasuke headed straight for the kitchen. Kakashi followed more out of concern for Sasuke than out of his own hunger.
They were very late for breakfast, so they were alone.
“So, really, what’s wrong?” Kakashi asked as Sasuke foraged.
“My team’s been working on these missions surrounding the rebels ever since we came together. We’ve risked our lives several times. I’ve been challenged and I’ve enjoyed it. It’s over. This will be the end of conflict, the beginning of peace. My life is about to become very boring. I was sleeping because I’m relieved and depressed. And tired.” He was staring into a cupboard and sighed. “I’m not really hungry.” He shut the cupboard.
Then he opened it just to slam it shut again with more force.
“I’ll go pack,” Sasuke said evenly.
Kakashi let him leave alone. He wasn’t sure exactly why Sasuke was angry.
-----
At first, Kakashi insisted on running to Suna with the rest, becoming a little self-conscious about being flown around like a Daimyo on a palanquin. Sasuke refused due to overtaxing his legs or messing up the leg with sand. Sasuke had decided to start walking the corridors so that their argument was heard by others, to assuage Kakashi’s ego.
So, Sasuke and Kakashi flew.
Kakashi was becoming more confidant in riding Sasuke’s hawks but he still kept his hands on Sasuke’s waist. Despite the fact they’d been sitting most of the day, they were tired when they arrived in Suna that evening. Their room was waiting for them, freshly searched, but they searched it themselves.
Sasuke sank into a chair rather than fling himself on the bed. They hadn’t sweat much due to the high altitude and wind, but they were dusty.
“I wish there’d been at least one assassin under the bed,” Sasuke quipped. He let his head fall over the back of the low-backed chair. Kakashi came to stand at the back of the chair and looking down at Sasuke’s face.
“We haven’t even completely finished this mission yet and you’re already worried about the quality of the next. Relax. I’m sure The Land of Waterfalls will start a war or something.”
Sasuke let a small chuckle escape him.
“I know you had a lot of fun thwarting a civil war but there will still be missions. Worse that can happen is you have to take on a genin team. Again.”
Sasuke hummed with amusement.
“Come on, let’s rinse off the dust and get to bed. You can sleep for another ten hours.”
“I will be starving in the morning. At least there’s food here.”
Kakashi understood that Sasuke wasn’t the least bit horny when depressed. They showered off quickly before getting into bed together.
Even though there were no assassins under the bed, and it seemed they had killed all the rebels, Kakashi was careful to set his leg where he could quickly grab it.
-----
Once all the Konoha shinobi arrived, there was a public acknowledgment of Konoha’s help to end the insurrection and a reception. Sasuke nearly ate his weight in rice and tomatoes.
The captain came over to Kakashi. “Don’t you feed him?”
“He’ll be sick in an hour,” Kakashi predicted.
“I know the Akimichi recover their chakra through eating, but damn.”
“He got depressed and wouldn’t eat yesterday.”
“Depressed?”
“He fears this will be the last challenging mission now that the world is mostly at peace.”
The Captain huffed. “I knew he wasn’t an optimist, but that’s a weird thing to worry about. Well, anyway, the two of you shouldn’t have any issues flying over the desert; I’ll travel with the rest of our comrades. Sounds like we can leave tomorrow if we wish.”
“Thanks. His hawks aren’t happy about being used for rides.”
“Like their master: rather be used in a life-threatening fight than for something normal.”
“I wonder if Sasuke’s stomach can distend like a snake,” Kakashi mused as Sasuke devoured three roasted tomatoes covered in herbs. “Naruto’s can.”
“Is that sake?” the captain asked.
“He doesn’t drink. If it is sake . . . I might have to hold his bangs back later.”
The captain giggled.
Tamari came over to them. “Kakashi-san, I wanted to properly thank you for helping my brother.”
“You’re welcome. It was a pleasure to fight alongside you.”
“We did make a good team.”
“Just don’t get complacent,” Kakashi urged. “We dealt with the organized force, but you never know.”
“I will make sure security doesn’t get lax. At least, for the time being.”
“Oh?”
“I may . . . be moving to Konoha.”
“Ohhh. Things going well between you and Shikamaru?”
She blushed. “Maybe. I wanted to make sure things were stable here before taking extended trips to the Land of Fire.”
“I know I’ll be happy to have you in the village. I’d feel safer having a jounin of your skill join us.”
“I won’t be going back with you this time, but soon.” She turned to the captain. “I also wanted to thank you. I know you were with Sasuke when he saved Gaara in his office. Thank you.” She bowed to him.
The captain bowed back. “No need. I just follow in his wake.”
“Nevertheless.”
-----
Sasuke announced soon after that he wanted to go to bed. Kakashi dutifully followed him to their room.
Sasuke dropped his emotionless mask as soon as the door shut. His stern disinterest melting into lethargy. Kakashi was behind him, but he noticed it in the fall of his sure shoulders and the dip in his head. Unlike Kakashi, Sasuke didn’t usually slouch.
“Going back to bed?” Kakashi asked.
“Yeah.”
“Be careful of sleeping on your stomach; you ate a lot.”
“Hai, hai.”
“We can head home tomorrow.”
Sasuke stalled. “Yeah. It will be nice to go home.”
Kakashi wasn’t sure that was entirely sincere.
-----
He managed to get Sasuke up the next morning, but he didn’t even attempt it until after he had packed most of their things. He left out only what Sasuke would need when he woke up.
Sasuke wasn’t sick, but he was lethargic again. He hid it well when they left the privacy of their room. Sasuke stopped by Gaara’s office to say goodbye and the captain joined them to the village entrance, with a brief detour to a butcher shop.
“You guys fly,” the captain said, more to Sasuke who hadn’t heard their plans the night before, “I’ll run with the rest of the Konoha shinobi.” Said shinobi were starting to gather behind him.
“Be safe,” Kakashi said.
“We will. Don’t fall off.”
“I know, right?” Kakashi said in a feigned whisper.
Sasuke’s largest hawk poofed into existence in front of Sasuke.
“No again! I am not a pack animal!” she argued, lifting her wings to make herself as large and as intimidating as possible.
Sasuke held up the thing he picked up at the butcher. It was a group of large, skinned desert hares. She hesitated. Then she tucked her wings back against her body. She shuffled a bit, embarrassedly. “Well, I would have preferred a nice big snake, but I do like hare.”
“Skinned so they will be easier to eat,” Sasuke said. He detached one from the bundle and threw it in the air where the hawk easily caught it and made quick work of swallowing it.
Sasuke handed Kakashi the bag. “Unfold the cloth inside and lay it out for me?”
Kakashi did so, making a relatively sand free surface to Sasuke to lay the other four hares for the hawk to tear apart and feast on.
While she happily ate, the rest of the Konoha shinobi were preparing to leave. The wounded were mobile and the strongest of the healthy shinobi carried their four dead comrades in barrel coffins on their backs.
“See you in Konoha,” Akihito said.
“See you soon,” Sasuke answered.
His team, the sensors, and their ANBU escorts began their run across the desert. Sasuke watched them go then turned back to his hawk. Who was currently ripping open a hare’s stomach and eating out its guts. He sighed.
Kakashi crouched near her and made to take a piece, but the hawk shooed him away. “I eat with my summons,” Kakashi said with mock dejection. At least it made Sasuke crack a smile.
