The Village of the Hidden Oasis was a secluded place. Not many people knew of it, despite the popular brand name. It was the label of most exotic fruits, medicines, even snacks and juices. Most of the consumers of its produce and products assumed it was simply a company, but those that dabbled in the more dangerous materials involving powerful poisons, anti-venoms, and regulated medications knew that it was an actual village. Well, to say it's a village is also a loose term, it's just that Village made it sound less ominous than Empire.
The ruler of the village was not that of a Kage or mayor, like most of the surrounding countries, but that of a sitting king and string of heirs. The king, who was a kind and fair ruler, also had a traditional harem, several wives, several mistresses, and a line of would be princes and princesses that could form a line and wrap around the castle, twice. Not all of the heirs could rule, and most of them had left the closed-in area to have a life outside of the court, monks, and assassins. Despite the numerous amount of children the king had, both officially and unofficially, he remembered each and every one of them. He knew names, birthdays, faces, and who the mother was. It was a tradition. The current king was the son of the former king's fifth mistress, number three in the official line. It was also tradition for the king to appoint which of his own kids could even be considered for the throne. It was Akane Fusou's luck, being the forth son of the fourth mistress, that was he picked among at least 17 of his siblings to be the current sitting ruler, as his father was often busy with other wives and children, along with delegating business in other cities. Akane also knew that he was not the first picked, but his elder brother, who was noted as his father's favorite, had disappeared when he was a child. It was thought to be a kidnapping, that devastated his father, but there was no ransom. It was soon thought of as murder, and when Akane was only 11 years old, he went to a funeral with no body and his own coronation in the same day. The disappearance of the elder son happened during an attack by Sasuke Uchiha, to steal formulas from the Royal Vault. Akane fought off Sasuke, who was overwhelmed by the poisons the Fusou's family could create from their bodies, mixed with their chakra that could stimulate and grow deadly plants nearly instantly. Sasuke retreated back to Orochimaru, but in the wake of chaos, Shura Fusou had vanished. To this day, Akane kept the picture used to honor his brother at the funeral, and usually kept it somewhere in his room. It was this picture that Kankuro was staring at so intently, wondering if it was an ex-boyfriend or something. "Akane, who's this guy?" Busy tying up his sash on the Vanguard uniform, about to head out for patrol, Akane stopped for a moment to see what Kankuro was talking about. "What? Oh, that. That's my brother. He died when I was little." "Brother? Oh...I'm...sorry. I didn't know" Embarrassed, Kankuro tried to apologize. "He doesn't look like you, so I didn't think..." "You don't look like Gaara either. One of you has red hair, and one of you has brown. It was just like that with me and him too. I've been told he looks after his mother...I take after father." "Oh...so...ya have different moms?" Akane nodded, turning his attention to the photo. It was that of a young boy with a passive smile. Indeed, they didn't really look alike. Akane's genes took strongly after his own father, who also had bright red hair and green eyes. It was a sign that the Fusou powers were strong within himself. The boy in the picture had short brown hair and hazel eyes. "We did. My father has many wives and mistresses. Normally, we pick heirs based on looks...Red hair and green eyes means we have stronger connection with our family line. But he...he was special. He was picked above me." Kankuro managed to catch a look of disapproving from Akane before the prince turned away from the photo. "When he died, I became first in line." Kankuro arched an eyebrow curiously, looking to Akane then back to the photo. "Why was he special?" Turning, Akane gave a small shrug before pulling his facial mask up. It was a sign that he didn't really want to talk about it, and his lover got the hint. Still, the way Akane looked when asked about his brother didn't sit well with Kankuro, and he didn't quite know why. "Akane?" Turning again, the younger male sighed. The puppeteer then smiled, giving a wave. "Be safe. I'll see ya after ya get home, 'kay?" Giving a nod, the prince turned to leave out of the window, disappearing into the early morning glare. Kankuro watched, waving, but his smile slowly faded. He had seen the boy in the photo before, and his stomach tightened at the thought of it. Moving to the table, he picked up the small framed photograph, putting it into the pocket of his shorts. Turning to leave the small apartment, he wondered if he'd ever come back there again. Unfortunately, it wasn't something that he could afford to think about right now. He had to get to his own home and warn his little brother. He had to walk casually, going to the town's main building and tried his best to stay calm. The first stop was his own workshop, picking up his 'friends' from their stands, before making his way up to Gaara's room. Bursting in, he called for Gaara's name, then Shiro's, but neither one of them was there. Shit. Was he too late? Running to the hallway, he grabbed the first guard he could see. "Where is he?! Where's Gaara?!" Startled, the guard looked into Kankuro's furious brown eyes. "He...and the concubine went to the Uzumaki's..." Fuck. "Did you tell anyone else?" "...The...Vice-Captain of the Vanguard was here to report for duty. He...also asked." So he had come too late. "Rally the troops and station yourselves. Don't trust the Vanguard, we're going to be attacked!" "...Sir?" "DO IT!" Pulling up his black hood, Kankuro ran out as fast as he could. In the streets, he noticed that none of the Vanguards were posted where they should have been, all seemingly had vanished It was outside of the Uzumaki house where the Vanguard had repositioned themselves. It was just after dawn, the sun had finally settled into the sky. Inside the farm house, Sasuke and Naruto had just settled into a comfortable sleep on their living room floor, while Gaara slept with Shiro in the main bed. At least, Gaara was asleep. Shiro was wide awake, more than sensing the house being surrounded. "...Gaara...Gaara..." Shiro whispered, nudging Gaara as best he could, but a window that was in the room shattered. Waking up instantly, Gaara felt himself being rolled onto the floor, his head covered with a blanket. "Don't breath in!" Rolling on the floor was an oversized spore, that exploded into a green cloud. Sasuke and Naruto had heard, jumping out of bed themselves. In their pajama pants, they rushed into the bedroom, their mouths covered. "Are you guys okay?" Naruto asked, going to help Gaara and Shiro up. Shiro gave a nod, breathing in the spores, but his body seemed relatively immune. Sasuke hurried to get his sword from its position from near the bed, when there was another explosion from the second window. Finally awake, Gaara shielded himself and his friends with a wall of sand. "We need to get out of here!" Gaara agreed, keeping his barrier up as they pushed themselves through the rooms and out the front door. The open air was refreshing, despite being surrounded. "Hey! Stop blowing holes in my house!" Naruto was more concerned that his home was being destroyed than anything else. "Who the fuck are you guys?! What do you want!??" Standing from his hiding place, Akane removed his mask. "We want the Jinchuriki." Squinting, Sasuke made out Akane's face and huffed. "Well you can't have him...well, us." Smirking, the Sharingan eyes activated, the Sword of the Kusanagi electrified. Scoffing, Akane pointed. "Not you. Kabuto will take you eventually. We want him." The finger seemed to be pointed in Gaara's direction. "But I'm not.." "Shiro." "....What?" That was the word used by Naruto, Sasuke, and Gaara, who all turned to Shiro. The serpent green eyes that looked frightened at first, suddenly narrowed. "That look...even if that monster changed you, I still remember how you use to look at me like that." Shiro remained quiet, until taking a step forward. "I'm not leaving." Running up, Gaara pushed Shiro out of the way to stand protectively in front of him. "You're out of line, Akane. There aren't any plants here, only sand. You're in my domain and you're surrounded... Don't do anything reckless!' It was true, as Akane could already feel the sand quivering underneath him. "You don't understand the monster you have at your side, Gaara. He'll turn on you just like he did his family!"While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
