Part 2
"Good morning, Namikaze-san," the man greeted politely, offering him a bow. "My name is Uchiha Sasuke, pleased to meet you."
"I'm Namikaze Minato, nice to meet you as well," Minato said, waving him inside. "Did my son tell you about our trip?"
"He told me about the fishing trip, yes," Sasuke confirmed with a faint smile. "I'm afraid I'm not that good at fishing. My father is not exactly the type to go finishing. Nobody in my family is."
"Well, it's a good thing fishing isn't anything complicated," Minato smiled. "It's mostly an excuse to relax to be honest."
"He can definitely use some relaxing," Naruto snorted when he entered the hallway, making a beeline for his boyfriend. "Hey, Sasuke, got here on time I see."
"When have I ever been late?" Sasuke questioned, automatically turning towards Naruto it seemed.
While Naruto and Sasuke greeted each other, Minato texted Kakashi quickly with the order to look up anything he could find about Uchiha Sasuke. He was pretty certain that the Uchiha had their own big cooperation – tycoons in the medical field if he wasn't mistaken – but it didn't hurt to find out everything about him. Especially when he was the first one who managed to get Naruto to date again.
"All right, have fun, you two," Kushina smiled after introducing herself as well.
"You're not joining us, Uzumaki-san?" Sasuke inquired; his hand still entangled with Naruto's from when Naruto had grabbed him.
"Oh no, sitting for hours on end in front of a lake, hoping for a fish to bite isn't my idea of fun," she chuckled. "Naruto and I will entertain us here instead. We'll see you tonight."
As Naruto led Sasuke to Minato's car, Kushina hugged Minato around his waist, bringing her mouth to his ear. "You asked to run a background check?"
"Yeah, Kakashi is on it. He'll let me know if he finds anything suspicious," Minato confirmed and they shared a quick kiss.
"I hope for Naruto that this guy isn't dodgy," she sighed; fingers playing with his hair. "I haven't seen our baby boy this happy in years. It'll suck if we have to get rid of him like we did with the last one."
"I don't feel anything off about him so far," he said measuredly.
Sasuke didn't set off his alarm bells, not like Yakushi had done, but at the same time he had no idea yet what to think of him either. He couldn't get a good read of him yet. Hopefully spending some time alone with him would give him something to work with.
"So how did you two meet actually?" Minato asked curiously.
They had been seated in front of the lake for a little more than an hour by now in peaceful silence. Sasuke, as Minato was quick to find out, was not actually a chatter bug like his son was, seeming to prefer to remain quiet. That made it all the more interesting how he had ended up with Naruto. Minato loved his son, but even he could admit that the young Omega could chat off someone's ears if he tried hard enough.
Something he'd inherited from his mum.
"At a birthday party," Sasuke answered to his surprise.
The younger Alpha smiled when he caught Minato's look. "Yes, a bit surprising, I guess. I'm not exactly a party person, but as it turned out we share a mutual friend. She invited me to her party and it felt impolite to say no." He huffed silently. "According to Naruto, I looked 'miserable as fuck," he quoted with his fingers, making Minato smile, because yeah, his son also had inherited his grandma's foul mouth, "and he made it his mission to entertain me."
"That sounds like Naruto, all right," Minato agreed. His son had never been able to stand it if he thought someone looked unhappy.
"I didn't feel comfortable letting him walk home alone after the party ended," Sasuke continued, tapping the left arm of his chair absently. "So I waited with him until his best friend could come pick him up."
"That was decent of you," Minato remarked.
Because a lot of people would have felt inclined to take advantage of an Omega being in a bad position. Naruto knew he could always call one of his parents to come pick him up, but Minato thought it was safe to assume that during that party Naruto had got drunk and hadn't thought to call his parents.
Sasuke must have guessed what he was thinking, because he shot him a look. "We both know not every Alpha is a greedy son of a bitch taking advantage of other people," he murmured.
"I know," Minato said. Gaara was a good example of that, after all. "Even so, I do feel that I should tell you - "
"That fish won't be the only ones present in the lake if I hurt Naruto?" Sasuke finished his sentence knowingly. He smiled faintly. "I figured as much when Naruto told me you wanted to take me out on a fishing trip."
"Guess my threat was obvious, huh," Minato smiled wryly and side-eyed him. "You have a lot of experience with getting threats from parents, Sasuke-kun?"
Sasuke snorted. "Hardly. I've never been really interested in someone until I met your son. No, I think it's reasonable that you're cautious considering Naruto's Class. I just ask that you give me a chance to prove myself and show you I do not intent to let any harm come to Naruto."
Well, Minato could hardly refuse such an earnest request, could he? While he still couldn't read Sasuke that well, he didn't get any bad vibes from him either. Obviously he also realised just how much Naruto meant to him and Kushina, given his understanding about the threat, which was more than could be said of Naruto's ex-partners. Even when knowing he would be assessed, he had still agreed to join Minato on a trip to a lake that could potentially be dangerous.
That said a lot about his character.
"What you're asking of me is not something I take lightly," Minato warned him.
Sasuke didn't even twitch. No wonder Naruto had been so confident about this trip.
"But I'm not unreasonable. You don't harm my son and we will get along just fine," he continued, offering him a smile.
"I'm glad to hear that," Sasuke said, smiling that small smile again. "I'm sure Naruto will appreciate you giving me a chance."
Appreciate? Naruto would probably be damn ecstatic about this, probably even smug as well, damn it.
But well, as long as Naruto was happy, it didn't matter who he dated.
Even if that person was an Alpha Minato couldn't really read.
"So, considering Sasuke didn't run for the hills and actually dared to kiss me while you were still nearby – does that mean he's got the full approval?" Naruto asked in a sing-song voice.
He was bracing his shoulder against the doorjamb of the bedroom when Minato turned around, his arms loosely crossed and a satisfied glint lurking in his blue eyes.
"It means I've not officially written him off yet," Minato corrected him, gathering a fresh set of clothes for after his shower. "He doesn't give me the creeps like Yakushi did, so there's that and he seemed pretty respectful."
"He's plenty respectful," Naruto said, nodding. "A bit too much at times, he might give Kakashi a run for his money."
"Nothing wrong with being respectful, especially when that means he won't take advantage of you," Minato said pointedly.
Naruto groaned and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Eugh, he told you about the time we met, huh?"
"Well, I asked him about it and he answered truthfully," Minato corrected him. "Which only works more in his favour, being honest to me. He didn't say much, only that he waited with you until Gaara could pick you up. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that you had a bit of fun at that party."
"I wasn't that bad," Naruto muttered petulantly. "I could still remember everything, is how I got back into contact with him."
"Well, so far he seems like a decent guy, so unless he screws up, yes, he does have my approval," Minato said, smiling when Naruto's face lit up and he rushed forwards to hug him tightly.
"Told you he's different from the others," Naruto grinned widely before skipping downstairs and calling out, "See, told you, ma! Sasuke's been fully approved!"
He definitely seemed different from the others, all right. The question was just how different he actually was.
The background check came back clean. Perhaps a little bit too clean, because Kakashi could not find a single thing that could be considered a fault or a blemish on Sasuke's apparent perfect image. Top of the class each year, graduated with high honours, came from a respectable family and had joined the family cooperation as soon as he had graduated, working his way up in a fair manner. Not a single traffic ticket to his name, always infallibly polite to everyone. Perhaps a bit standoffish, but he'd always been a rather quiet person, an introvert according to his school records.
In short, he appeared like the perfect person. It wasn't like Minato had anything bad to say about him either. Whenever he came over for a visit, he was always polite, always friendly, managing to talk about all kinds of subjects, no matter how trivial or farfetched. The kisses he shared with Naruto in plain view of Minato and Kushina were chaste for the sake of decency and politeness, but nevertheless never failed to convey just how much he adored Naruto. He got Naruto to smile and laugh more than all Naruto's exes combined had ever managed to pull off and even Gaara had nothing bad to say about him.
Which was basically unheard of, because Gaara was notoriously even pickier than Minato and Kushina were.
"I've never seen Naruto this happy," Gaara said, confirming what both Minato and Kushina knew. "I've never been for this whole lovey-dovey crap, but if I were like that, I'd say it feels like they're made for each other or something like that. Honestly, I can't think of anything bad about him and you know I wouldn't hold back if he was a prick."
No, that they knew all too well.
"Guess Naruto really managed to hit the jackpot this time, huh," Minato mused, leaning back in his chair. He smiled when a pair of slender arms wrapped around his chest from behind him. Lips kissed the top of his head.
"I'm glad he did. After the crap with his exes, he deserves someone like Sasuke-kun," Kushina said. "That man acts like Naruto hung the moon itself and it's so freaking adorable, it makes even me want to squeal."
"Then it's really bad," he chuckled. He wrapped his arms around her when she slid into his lap, bracing her arms on his shoulders.
"I'm happy our son's happy," she said and kissed him.
It was simple, but true. Naruto was happy, so in turn they were happy.
The afternoon Minato got that dreaded call, that goddamn fucking call he had hoped to never receive, was the afternoon his world threatened to be shattered into a million pieces.
"What do you mean, you lost him?" he snapped, shooting out of his chair.
Kakashi looked up alarmed, his hand dipping down to his hip where he kept a gun concealed.
"Got knocked out from the back, boss, I'm so sorry," Konohamaru said distressed, almost anguished. "I was too late to stop them, but I think I managed to snap a picture on time of the license plate."
"Send it to me now," Minato said coldly. "Get yourself checked at the doctor's, we'll handle the rest."
"Understood, boss, I'm so sorry I let this happen! I will - "
But Minato wasn't in the mood for more apologies. Not when his son was fucking abducted by god knew who. Not when some goddamn son of a bitch might be harming his son right this very moment.
"Boss?" Kakashi stared at him apprehensively.
Minato's phone pinged. A clear picture of a license plate belonging to a dark blue Toyota. "Get the team together," he snapped, sending the picture to their specialists. "Someone kidnapped my son and they're going to fucking pay for it."
It took two goddamn long hours of trawling through all the traffic cameras, going through every little corner of every fucking street before they finally managed to pinpoint roughly where Naruto could have been taken.
An abandoned distillery at the north side. Deserted, isolated, the chances of someone coming across it and stopping whatever was happening on time was slim to basically nothing.
"You murder that son of a bitch, no matter what happens," Kushina hissed, her knuckles turning white with the sheer strength she was using to cling onto Minato's coat. "Don't fucking care in what," her voice wavered, she blinked away tears, "in what condition our son is, you find them, you kill them. They don't deserve to live for what they've done."
"Don't worry," he whispered against her mouth, pressing a short but deep kiss on it. "They'll pay with every last drop of blood they possess."
They hadn't been able to figure out yet to whom the car belonged, but that didn't matter. Whoever was behind this, they would pay with their life for what they had dared to do. They took away his son, they were going to pay with their lives. Simple as that.
They rushed through the streets as quickly as they could without attracting unwanted attention from the police. All the while Minato kept checking the app on his phone. The app which he had installed years ago the very moment Naruto had received his first phone. Naruto's phone had a tracking app installed on it, as per Minato's and Kushina's request. They barely used it, trusting their son to be able to take care of himself, but they had installed it on each phone he had had just in case.
The app had been silent the entire time however, because something had happened to Naruto's phone. Simply shutting the phone down wouldn't have done anything to disrupt the signal, so they must have done something else with it. Destroyed most likely.
They left the busy roads behind them, driving straight to the north side. Here the houses became more sparse, trees and bushes replacing buildings on the side of the road. Evening was settling in slowly; the last rays of sunlight colouring the darkening sky with streaks of pink and orange.
Minato's heart lurched into his throat when the tracking app suddenly pinged, right as they were about to drive onto the unkempt parking lot of the distillery. His phone rang, making Kakashi's head shot up from where he'd been cleaning his gun.
An unknown number.
"Who are you - "
"Dad?"
Naruto's wavery voice had Minato nearly sinking down in his seat from sheer relief. "Naruto? Where are you? Who's with you? I'll be with you soon," he said hurriedly, in case Naruto didn't have much time to talk.
"I'm – I'm fine, I'm not with them anymore," Naruto said to his shock.
"You're not? Where are you? What happened to them?" Minato demanded incredulously.
Rin, the driver, slowed to a stop, casting him a look through the rear view mirror.
"Sasuke found me. I'm at his apartment now."
"I'll be there soon," Minato promised and instructed Rin to drive back, giving her Sasuke's address.
"Naruto is safe?" Kakashi questioned surprised.
Minato leant back in his seat, staring down at his phone, frowning. "Yes, he is. Apparently Sasuke found him and got him out of there."
"How did he find him?" Kakashi asked perplexed.
"Now that," Minato murmured as he glanced outside, "is a very good question."
Especially because none of them had had the time yet to inform Sasuke Naruto had been kidnapped.
Minato would only ever admit it to Kushina, but the second he could wrap Naruto in his arms, press him into a tight embrace and feel his son hugging him back just as fiercely, his knees nearly buckled with the sheer amount of relief coursing through his veins. His son, his precious baby boy, was safe, was unharmed, untouched. Whatever those arseholes had been planning to do to him, they hadn't succeeded.
Because Sasuke had found him on time.
Sasuke, who was watching the reunion from his position near the doorway. Whose neutral look met Minato's eyes head on.
"I think you and I need to talk," Minato said calmly.
"Dad, Sasuke didn't do anything wrong!" Naruto instantly protested, grasping his coat. "He was the one who saved me!"
"I'm well aware of that," Minato reassured him and carefully tugged Naruto's hands loose. "I'm also aware of the fact that none of us had told him yet about what happened – so it's very curious that he was able to save you before we had even pinpointed your location."
Finally after nearly a year, Sasuke's mask cracked. He smiled wryly, gesturing at what might be the living room. "Why don't we have a seat, Minato-san? We have quite a bit to talk about, I assume."
There was a certain kind of irony at play here, Minato decided, watching from his seat on the couch how Sasuke and Naruto held a whispered conversation at the other end of the room.
Sasuke looked calm, Naruto slightly more worried.
Next to Minato, Kushina stirred, crossing her legs. "Our son sure knows how to pick them, hm?" she mused aloud; her sharp eyes resting on the couple.
"He sure does," Minato agreed, brushing circles with his thumb across the back of her hand.
As it turned out, not only was Naruto's best friend part of a yakuza clan – his boyfriend was a part of their world as well. A pretty big and very impressive part to be frank and Minato couldn't help but be reluctantly impressed at how the Uchiha family had everyone fooled. Respectably businessmen during the day, calculating and ruthless yakuza leaders during the night. Their territory was over a quarter larger than the Uzumaki one was and it was by sheer coincidence that they never had had any dealings together.
Until now. Because the youngest heir to one of the most dangerous and ruthless yakuza clans had fallen in love with their son.
He had had his own people following Naruto and that had been what had saved Naruto in the end. Because the criminal gang who had abducted Naruto had only been paying attention to the Uzumaki guards and not to any other guards following Naruto around. The Uchiha guard had been too far away to directly interfere, but he had been able to follow them in a car, alerting his boss about what was happening.
It had led to Naruto being saved before those arseholes could have even touched him the wrong way and to the criminals in question sweating their balls off in fear as they were being kept in a cellar of one of the Uchiha buildings, awaiting their fate.
"I know he's not exactly part of a small yakuza clan, but I do think he truly does love our son," Kushina continued in a soft voice. "I don't think he's fooling either of us."
"I don't think so, no," Minato said, because there was no faking that look in Sasuke's eyes.
It was the same look Minato knew he carried in his eyes whenever he looked at his wife.
"I apologise that I kept this from you for so long," Sasuke apologised stiffly when he and Naruto returned to the couch. "My family takes privacy very seriously and to be quite frank, I had no idea how you would react if I told you the truth."
"Were you ever planning on telling us the truth?" Kushina asked critically.
Naruto frowned at her, but didn't say anything. It didn't escape anyone's notice that he was holding Sasuke's hand tightly.
"Eventually," Sasuke answered. "I didn't intend to keep this from you forever. It was just … never quite the right moment so far."
"Guess saving our abducted son is a good moment as any to come clean," Minato said dryly.
"I guess so," Sasuke smiled wryly. He looked at them calculatingly. "I understand this might not be what you had envisioned for your son, but I want you to know that I love him beyond anything I thought was possible. This is not a ruse to take over your territory."
"You wouldn't have been able to succeed even if that had been your plan," Kushina scoffed. "I don't care how big your clan is, we'd have razed you down to the ground if you ever had dared to lift one wrong finger to our son."
"Ma," Naruto muttered embarrassedly.
"Don't worry, baby boy, we all can see how much you love each other," she said soothingly, but that only served to make Naruto blush even harder.
Sasuke's eyes lit up with interest when she stood up, clapped her hands together and suggested brightly, "Now, why don't we pay a visit to that lovely gang, hm? I'm sure they are dying to meet us."
Minato had to admit that when it came to punishing a bunch of lowlifes for daring to touch Naruto, he and Sasuke made a pretty good team as well.
It was really just awful bad luck for that gang that they had come across two of the most protective Alpha they would ever meet. Not that they would ever have the chance to potentially meet even more protective Alpha.
It was, after all, difficult to meet new people when your body was no longer even in one piece.
Sixteen years later
"Papa, tell dad and granddad they aren't allowed to scare off my date!" Michiko protested, throwing her hands up in exasperation.
Their fourteen year old daughter looked almost ready to start stamping her foot and while Naruto could sympathise with that feeling – because the gods knew he himself had been exasperated by his parents' vetting of his dates back when he'd been younger – as a parent himself now he also understood very well why dad and mum had been so insistent on getting to know his dates.
"Sorry, sweetheart, but I'm with them on this," he smiled sympathetically and tugged gently at her ponytail, making her pout.
"Be glad your grandfather is not insisting on meeting your date as well," Sasuke told her, making her groan and roll her eyes.
She marched out of the kitchen, muttering darkly, "Why, oh why, does my entire family have to be damn yakuza?"
"She has that attitude from you, you know," Sasuke informed him casually.
"Oh no, you don't get to pin that on me!" Naruto protested, jabbing his forearm. "You're the one with the attitude here, mister."
He let out a startled laugh when Sasuke grabbed him by his hips and whirled him around, pressing him against the kitchen counter. "Oh, I'll show you attitude," he growled before capturing Naruto's mouth in a fierce kiss, gyrating their hips together.
"You better not be doing something icky when I come back downstairs!" Michiko shouted from somewhere upstairs.
They broke their kiss laughing, even as Sasuke's hands remained on Naruto's hips.
"You vet the first one, I the second one?" Naruto suggested mischievously.
"But of course, it's a system that works," Sasuke smirked and kissed him again, heedless of their daughter's warning.
Why try to change a system when it clearly worked?
