Part 2
Her name leaving his lips abruptly shook her out of her stupor and involuntarily she took a step back; her heart starting to beat quicker. "Wait, how – how do you know my name?" she stammered; her skin pricking uncomfortably hot.
She'd never seen him before, so how the hell did he even know her name? What the fuck was going on here?
"Why shouldn't I when you spent two days in my house?" he retorted flatly.
In his house, what …
Suddenly the door to the back seat opened and a red haired woman stepped out, dressed in a black skirt and a white tank top. Her smile was as fake as her nails when she suggested, "Why don't you step in so that the boss can continue this conversation elsewhere?"
"Thanks, but no thanks, my break is almost over; I need to go back to work," Sakura lied and turned around.
Only to walk straight into a broad shouldered guy with orange hair who towered over her.
"Which work?" The woman smiled sharply when Sakura whipped her head around. "You haven't had a job in more than a month, so you can spare the time to speak with our boss. It's the least you can do after all."
"I'm not going anywhere with you," Sakura snapped and made to run away.
She wasn't even able to take one step before the tall man grabbed her by her upper arms and shoved her into the car. The door slammed shut, cutting off both her only form of escape and the scream she'd been planning to unleash to alert other people.
"You can't do this! Let me out!"
The smile vanished from the red haired woman's face and her eyes turned so cold, Sakura instinctively shut up, pressing herself as close to the other side of the backseat as possible.
"You're going to sit there and be quiet, because you're already in deep shit as it is," she stated bluntly. "Don't make it even worse for yourself."
"I don't know what - "
"Keep your mouth shut. I'm not saying it again," the woman said coldly.
There was something in her eyes, in the way she held herself in the seat, that kept Sakura quiet even when the car started driving away.
If the guy was Naruto's mysterious boyfriend, though – as his words seemed to imply – what did he want with her then? She'd overheard Naruto mentioning her staying there, so it couldn't be about that.
Wait, did they know about the necklace and the money?
For just a second she tensed up before she forced herself to relax; keeping her gaze aimed at the window and definitely not at the woman next to her or the man in front of her. No, they couldn't know. She'd been alone upstairs and it had been a couple of days since Naruto had driven her back. If it was about the necklace and the money, wouldn't they have confronted her sooner than today?
If not about those items, though, why did he want to talk to her?
Either way, it wasn't as if they had any proof she'd taken those items. How could they possibly prove that she was the one who'd taken the money and the necklace when she wasn't carrying either with her now? The money especially would be hard to prove, because who didn't walk around with cash still?
Yes, they had nothing, absolutely nothing.
She tried to reassure herself, but that was rather difficult to do when she had no idea what the hell was happening.
The fact that they drove to the outskirts of the town definitely did not put Sakura on ease. Here the houses only showed up sporadically alongside the road; the empty spaces in between them filled with nothing but trees and grass. They parked in front of a small house, which was being dwarfed almost by the oak tree right next to it.
"Come on, out you go," the woman said and ushered Sakura out of the car.
She couldn't help but glance around nervously, all too aware of how quiet this place was. She tried to keep a straight face, but that was becoming more difficult when she was none too subtly steered towards the house. The orange haired guy showed up in a second car, followed closely by a lanky man with white hair and gleaming purple eyes. They walked behind her, cutting off any possible escape route.
She swallowed, her fingers tightening around the strap of her handbag. She thought about carefully putting her hand inside of it to search for her phone and call Ino by pressing on the number she'd assigned to her. She didn't even have to look down to do it, but before she could sneakily put her hand inside the bag, her purse was abruptly taken away from her.
The red haired woman offered her a thin smile. "I'll keep this safe for you, okay? You won't need it for a conversation with the boss anyways."
"That might only be a distraction," the white haired guy snickered.
Their boss didn't react to the conversation ongoing behind him and simply unearthed a key from his pocket to open the door.
Sakura didn't know what exactly she had expected, but stepping into a small hallway with a view on a comfortable looking living room hadn't been it. Instead of entering there, Naruto's boyfriend walked to the door on their left, opening that one and beckoning them inside. This turned out to be a small study, with a desk in the middle and two chairs. The bookcase behind the desk was mainly empty; only a few books placed on the shelves.
"Why don't you take a seat?" The man's polite offer was at odds with the cool tone in his voice as he walked behind the desk and took a seat.
"I'd rather sta-" Her teeth clacked together painfully when she was abruptly pushed down on the chair by the orange haired man.
"We'll wait outside, boss," the white haired man announced cheerfully; his hands stuffed in the pockets of his ripped jeans. He and the tall man left, pulling the door close behind them.
The woman, on other hand, stayed, choosing to stand in the left corner, a few feet away from the bookcase. She crossed her arms and leant back almost nonchalantly against the wall; but her eyes were sharp and remained on Sakura.
The dark haired man steepled his fingers together; his dark eyes unwavering when they stared at Sakura. "I'm going to be blunt, because I'm not the type to beat around the bush," he started. "I know you stole a necklace and fifteen thousand yen when you were staying at my house."
"I didn't steal anything!" Sakura instantly denied, clenching her hands into fists. "Where's your proof, huh? You think you can just go around and accuse people of - "
Her breath hitched when he started placing pictures on the desk, pushing them towards her so she could get a better look at them. They were pictures clearly taken from inside Naruto's study. They were taken in succession, showing her reaching for the necklace, holding it in the air, before slipping it into her pocket together with the money from underneath the box.
As she stared at them shocked, he said mildly, "So that isn't you in the pictures? That isn't you stealing the necklace and the money? Let me guess, it's your twin sister?" He smiled mockingly.
"How – how did - "
"If you think for one moment I would leave my house and my boyfriend completely unguarded, you're an even bigger idiot than I thought," he said coolly. "Naruto told me in the past that I was being too overprotective, but it looks like I was right to place cameras, seeing as a particular someone had rather sticky fingers."
She could only sit there and stare at the damning evidence in front of her; her skin pricking with uncomfortable heat. She was utterly fucked. There was no way for her to deny everything now that they had proof. She hadn't even noticed the cameras! Where on earth had they been placed?
"I did some research," the man spoke abruptly and she jerked back in her chair, staring at him wide-eyed. "And you, Haruno, seem to have the rather nasty habit of stealing from everyone you know. I don't care that you steal from your family and your friends, but I do care that you dared to steal from Naruto."
He rose up and walked around the desk, halting right next to her. Resting one hand on the desk, nearly touching the first picture, he leant down to face her and continued, "Even though Naruto's been having a hard time lately, he still went out of his way to help you out. He offered to let you stay after your fight with your mother, was so patient enough to give you a full day to calm down. And this is how you repay him: by not only stealing money from him, but also stealing his necklace."
"It's not like he doesn't have other necklaces!" she protested, opening her stupid mouth before she could think twice.
She should have thought twice, she realised with growing dread, when the man smirked darkly.
"It's true, he does have other necklaces," he agreed and straightened up again. "But that particular necklace is the most valuable of them all – because it's something his grandmother gave to him before she passed away."
Her mouth opened, but nothing came out; the huge mistake she had made dawning upon her.
"So you can understand why Naruto was rather upset when he discovered that the necklace is gone," the man stated and returned to his seat behind the desk.
"I – I'll give it back, I promise!" she rushed to say, hoping to lessen the damage somewhat. God, she should have just left the box alone! The necklace and the money really weren't worth this kind of trouble!
"Why do I feel like you've told people this before?" he smiled thinly and leant back in his chair. "Only to not follow through with your promise."
"I swear I will return it, I promise!" she insisted.
"Fortunately for you, I'm not in the mood to find out whether you would fulfil your promise. I like to do things myself, so I took the liberty of retrieving the money and the necklace," he said to her shock.
"See how generous the boss is?" the red haired woman said snidely.
"So, erm, does this mean I can go?" Sakura asked meekly.
The smile she received in return made her nauseous. The man leant forwards, resting his elbows on the desk. "You honestly did not think you would get away with this that easily, did you?" He raised an eyebrow.
"But you've got your stuff back! And I'll promise not to see Naruto again!" she said, becoming a bit desperate now.
"Oh, you'll definitely not be seeing Naruto again, that's for sure," he agreed. "Because things might become more troublesome for you if you ever dare to do that again. I do think you haven't learnt your lesson yet, however."
"Yes, I did!" she hastened to say, pushing down the urge to bristle at being treated like a child. "I learnt my lesson, honest!"
"No, I don't think you have," he said pensively. "So this is what's going to happen: you're going to work for me until your debt has been repaid."
"What?! But you already have the money and the necklace!" she protested heavily, jumping out of her chair. "I don't have any debt left!"
"Consider this a moral debt for the pain you put Naruto through," he said coolly. "You will be working for me until your debt has been paid off."
"And how long is that then?" she demanded; her legs shaking with both fury and fear.
A smirk slowly unfurled across his lips. "Until I say so."
"You can't force me to work for you!" she snapped desperately. "I can go to the police and –"
"Ah yes, the police. I'm sure they'll be interested to know about your stealing habits," he smiled thinly. "I know you might be intelligence challenged somewhat, but do you really think you stand a chance going up against me? Who do you think the police will believe: a successful businessman who often donates to charities or a lying thief who can't keep a job for longer than a year?"
He stood up again and when he leant towards her this time, his eyes were so cold, her own blood seemed to freeze in response.
"I'm giving you an easy way out because you weren't stupid enough to try to pawn the necklace, but I promise you, Haruno," his voice descended in a lower pitch and his eyes burned maliciously, "I can make your life a living hell if I choose to. See to it that I won't have to do that."
He stepped back and nodded at the red haired woman. "Take her away, show her around her new workplace starting from today."
"Of course, boss," the woman smiled.
She grabbed a stunned Sakura by her wrist and dragged her out of the room. "I can tell you one thing, Haruno," she said clipped as they walked out of the house. "You pissed off the boss once, you don't get another chance."
She turned to look at her; her eyes as frosty as ice. "Don't think any of us will cover your arse if you try something stupid again. You hurt Naruto-kun, now you have to pay the price. You get one chance, don't fuck this up."
With that ominous warning, she basically shoved Sakura into the car again and slammed the door shut. Sakura slumped down in the seat, covering her face with her hands.
How the fuck had things ended up like this?
The sight of blue eyes lightening up in delight when Sasuke presented the necklace dissipated the last tatters of fury he had still been holding on to since this morning.
"You found it!" Naruto cried out in relief and grabbed the necklace, tracing the nicks in the stone before he eagerly tied it around his neck. "I've been looking everywhere for it, where did you find it?"
"In my own study," Sasuke lied smoothly, stepping forwards to draw the blond in an embrace. "You must have left it there the last time you were inside."
"I did?" Naruto blinked and looked down at the necklace. "Huh, I must have." Chagrin passed across his face. "I'm sorry for making such a big deal out of this. I know I was being stupid and - "
"Hey, hey, you weren't being stupid," Sasuke said firmly and kissed him. "I know how much this necklace means to you, so of course I searched for it."
Naruto didn't need to know that his ex-classmate had stolen it from him. He had already felt guilty enough about letting her stay here; he didn't need to beat himself up for the stupid stunt she had dared to pull.
"Thanks," Naruto sighed and rose up on his tiptoes to kiss Sasuke's mouth. "I mean it."
The older man nodded and caressed his back slowly through his shirt. "You've taken a test yet?"
At once Naruto stiffened and his eyes were cast downwards when he admitted, "No, didn't really see the point in it. Not like the previous times were that successful." Bitterness tainted his voice, mixing with the self-loathing that had grabbed a hold of him since a couple of months.
Sasuke sighed softly and embraced him tighter, kissing the crown of his head. "How about we take a test now, hm? The last time you took one was a month ago, no?"
Naruto nodded, rubbing his eyes discreetly. "Yeah, a month, but Sasuke, what does it matter? We've been trying for months now and I'm still not pregnant!" That last bit escaped him in an outburst and he pushed himself away from Sasuke, stalking to the other end of the room.
Sasuke pressed his lips together, watching Naruto tug at his hair in frustration. For eight months they had been trying to have a baby, ever since they found out that Naruto was the carrier of the gene that could make it happen. They had known it wouldn't be easy, because even possessing the gene didn't mean an immediate success, but negative test after negative test were starting to wear on Naruto, tainting his otherwise upbeat personality.
Naruto was blaming himself for not being pregnant yet, Sasuke knew, even though it wasn't his fault. Mother Nature was a finicky something after all. Sometimes she was merciful, other times she wasn't.
It hurt Sasuke to see Naruto so miserable with each test that came up negative. Fearful that Naruto might enter a downward spiral from which there was no coming back, Sasuke had suggested they put the whole baby making process on hold for now and just enjoy each other again.
That had been a month ago and since then Naruto hadn't touched another yet.
He walked over to Naruto and pulled him against him; his back pressed to his chest. "I've got a good feeling about this one, though," he said softly and kissed Naruto's ear.
"You've got a good feeling," Naruto repeated, somewhat sarcastic even as his hands clenched down around Sasuke's wrists.
"Yes, I have and you know my good feeling never lets me down," Sasuke stated. "How else could I make my business so successful?"
He smiled when Naruto snorted out a wet laugh. He tugged him around, stroking his cheek and looking into wary blue eyes. "Come on, let's try taking a test, hm?"
"Okay fine, but I reserve the right to drown my tears in ramen if the test's negative again," Naruto grumbled, but let himself willingly be tugged to the bathroom, accepting the test Sasuke handed over to him.
Sasuke turned around to give Naruto some privacy, setting the timer on his phone as soon as Naruto was finished.
"What if I can't get pregnant at all? Like, what if there's something wrong with me?" Naruto muttered, staring at the stick on the sink.
Resting his hands on Naruto's hips, caressing the warm skin underneath, Sasuke replied, "Then we seek out a medical expert who can help us."
"And what if I can't be helped?"
"Then we'll adopt," he said simply. "One way or the other, we're going to have our family, Naruto."
"Promise?" His voice was so small, so hopeless that Sasuke pulled him in for a deep, but reassuring kiss.
"Promise," he said quietly when he pulled back, looking straight into shimmery blue eyes. "This isn't the end of everything."
Naruto nodded and tucked his face into Sasuke's neck, his hands clutching the man's back. They remained in that position until the timer on Sasuke's phone went off, loud in the otherwise silent bathroom. They exchanged a glance before Naruto slowly reached out to the sink, his hand visibly trembling when he picked up the pregnancy test.
He brought it closer so they could look at it. The second their gazes fell onto the screen, Naruto's legs gave out and Sasuke was barely quick enough to catch him and lower him gently to the floor.
"It's positive," Naruto breathed out shocked, clutching the stick tightly. "It's – I'm not imagining this, right? Sasuke? This is – this is real, right? This is actually happening?"
Sasuke smiled, gently prying the stick out of Naruto's hand so he could look at it again. "I told you I had a good feeling," he teased and the next moment he fell backwards when Naruto lunged forwards, hugging him tightly.
"I can't believe it!" Naruto laughed and kissed him again and again; the kisses sloppy but so filled with joy that Sasuke didn't even mind that most kisses didn't land on his lips. "I'm pregnant! We're actually having a baby! We're having a baby, Sasuke!"
"Yes, we are," Sasuke smiled and slipped his fingers through blond hair, using the hold to direct Naruto's mouth to his for an actual kiss this time.
Somehow they managed to get up and out of the bathroom into their bedroom, where their clothes literally went flying as they rushed to undress each other. Naruto laughed when fingers trailed feather light touches down his thighs and moaned when Sasuke took his prick in his mouth; his fingers slick and pushing into Naruto's hole at the same time. Muscles tensed around him for just a few seconds before they relaxed easily, drawing his fingers in deeper.
Naruto became impatient when Sasuke took his time preparing him, bringing his fingers into him over and over again, stretching him gently, but Sasuke wasn't going to take any chances. This kind of life changing news didn't demand a quick fuck, but long lovemaking, letting Naruto feel again and again just how much Sasuke loved him.
And letting him feel it, he did. When he finally pushed into Naruto, his hips cradled by quivering thighs, the blond gasped softly before surging upwards to kiss him, grasping at his shoulders to pull him closer.
"I love you," he whispered against swollen red lips. "I love you," he murmured, touching his stomach which would only remain flat for just a few months longer. He couldn't wait to see and feel it grow, knowing that their child was growing inside.
"I love you," Naruto gasped, throwing his head back when Sasuke sucked at a sensitive spot underneath his ear.
When Naruto came, it was with a soft cry and some tears dripping down, which Sasuke gently kissed away. Naruto held him throughout his own climax, let him shudder while kissing his shoulder, and afterwards he clung to Sasuke, embracing him tightly.
Sasuke waited until Naruto had fallen asleep and kept one hand on his stomach, while he checked his phone for Karin's message.
Karin 15.06 p.m.
Don't worry, boss, we'll keep an eye on her. Even one toe out of the line and she'll regret it
Sasuke smiled and returned his phone to his nightstand, settling more comfortably against the pillows while he slowly caressed Naruto's back.
Let Haruno try something; she would find out soon then that it was never a smart idea to bite off more than you could chew.
