“Hinata Sensei…...Hinata Sensei!”
Hinata forced her eyes away from the delicate square of paper that she had just picked up from her stack of mail on her instructors desk and looked up to see that all of her students had already filed in and taken their seats awaiting their sensei’s morning instructions.
“Hinata Sensei?...are you okay? We are ready to start class mam.” A young orange haired girl asked with clear concern in her adolescent voice. Mentally shaking herself awake from the shock of reading what she was holding, she forced a small reassuring smile and addressed her students.
“Oh, yes Moegi dear, I’m sorry everyone. I was just distracted by my reading.” Placing the wedding invitation into her vest pocket she pushed all her racing thoughts and feelings to the back of her mind and focused on teaching her class about the proper process of how to produce a viable clone.

During her lunch period Hinata sat in the staff room like usual and ate her lunch by herself in her favorite seat in the back of the room where no one ever seems to notice her. She doesn’t mind though, she never enjoys forced conversations with her peers, and rather just listen in to the surrounding conversations being held all around her. Today though, she wasn't very enthused about what the daily gossip was about.
“Did you see the announcement!?”
“It is so soon don’t you think? Already getting married!”
“They’ve known each other since they were kids, it was only a matter of time.”
“Yea, I guess you’re right. Plus Naruto has always been so smitten with Sakura.”
Naruto and Sakura have been dating now for about two and a half years, and Hinata, as well as everybody else in the village just received the news about their recent engagement and that they have a date for their wedding. It is just a short three months away. Of course everyone is in such a buzz about the news, I mean is is not everyday that two heros and disciples of two of the legendary Sannin are set to get married to each other. Hinata shouldn’t feel so shocked by this revelation though, it seems so soon. With the rebuild of the village going on, and Kakashi Hatake in the process of taking over as the next Hokage. A prestigious wedding going on as well seems like a lot all at once. But then again who would care about her opinion? She is just the ex-heiress to the great Hyuga Clan’s main branch family who was cast away at the age of nine to only be replaced by her younger five year old sister.
Now she just tries to busy her day with teaching the youth of the village so that she can at least feel like she is a productive member of the village. After classes she goes to her favorite training spots until she is so tired and sore that she can barely make it back to her tiny apartment on the edge of town. She lives just outside of the old Uchiha compound. Since it was on the our skits of the village, it remained mostly untouched from the assault by Pain. Since the Uchiha clan was wiped out, and Sasuke has been away from the village, no one else resides nearby, and Hinata enjoys the quiet. She could have remained in her own family’s home but she wasn’t going to live under the same roof as a father that only shows her how disappointed he is in her every time he looks at her, and watch her younger sister take on the role that Hinata was suppose to be born into.
The newer parts of the village have been updated with new technologies and always seem to be loud, bright, and bustling at all times of the day and night. Hinata prefered the peace and quiet of her apartment. So she returns home every night to shower and pass out on her small bed for a few hours before she has to get up and do it all again. Except on the weekends when she usually visits with her former Sensei, Kurenai and her and the late Asuma Sensei’s daughter Mirai. Kurenai is the closest thing to a parent that Hinata has known and her Sensei knows Hinata well enough to just let her visit some days without saying anything at all to each other.
Just sitting in silence and watching the newly walking Mirai explore her ever changing world through her pure and innocent eyes always fills Hinata with such peace and happiness, it always gives her the strength to continue her day to day routine. She can’t change her own childhood experiences, but she sure as hell can strive to give the youth of her village a better experience and future than she ever had the opportunity to have. So she trains everyday until she feels like passing out in order to ensure that she is growing and becoming strong enough to teach the next generation and protect them from all the hardships she grew up knowing. This is where she found her purpose. Teaching and training, teaching and training. Because if she didn’t have a purpose then why was she even here?
She needed to feel like she was serving a purpose here in the village, because if she didn’t, then she had no other reason to be there and if she had no reason to be here she might disappear again like she did during her wasted adolescent years. She was never going to go back to being that Hinata again. “I will not become invisible again” Hinata thought to herself as she nibbled on her rice ball. “I might be alone, and keep to myself most of the time, but I am still here. I am serving a purpose here in this village by education our future leaders. I am pushing myself every night to the brink of absolute exhaustion so that I may be of more use if a new danger ever presents itself to our village. I will not return to the poor frightened weak girl that I was before Pain attacked, or before the Great War.”
“Sakura is so lucky to have a man like Naruto so devoted to her.”
“He has made such a great name for himself and so has Sakura.”
“Yea I am sure they are going to do more great things for the village together!”
Hinata smiled to herself while she continued to listen to her nearby coworkers talk about the upcoming wedding. Naruto Uzumaki….she couldn’t help but smile whenever she heard his name still. He is the reason she found the strength to find her purpose, her ninja way. She can still remember hiding in the background, watching him grow into the man he is today. She never once doubted that he would ever achieve his goals. He always encouraged her to fight and achieve her own when everyone else wanted her to give up. Even though she loved him from the moment he chased away some grade school bullies that were making fun of her way back then, she was genuinely happy for him to have found true love and happiness in his pink haired teammate. If anyone deserves to find happiness in another, it was definitely Naruto. Even if it meant Hinata’s chance for love was lost.
Sure it hurt, but she kept herself busy enough to not think about it...much. Speaking of being busy, she was sure she was going to be in need of a particularly intense exercise training after her afternoon classes today. So she pulled out her new cell phone, that has just recently been created for the senior ninjas in the village to be able to be in easy communication with each other at all times, and dialed one of the few numbers she kept in her phone.
“Hey, are you free this evening for some training? Yea the normal place. Make sure to clear your schedule, I think it's gonna be a late one.”

“That’s it” Shino said between pants, “I’m at my limit chakra wise. We best call it a night Hinata.” Glancing up at the rising colors along the horizon he was still trying to catch his breath, “Or should I more accurately say, morning.” Glancing over to his longtime teammate and one of the people he considers to be a best friend, he could tell she had already caught her breath and could probably easily go a few more rounds with him and his insects. But he truly was well past his limit. He pushed himself because he could tell his friend needed to work through whatever was troubling her, and he had a sneaking suspicion the recent wedding announcement had something to do with this intense training session. The fact that Hinata wasn’t half as exhausted as he was spoke volumese for her growth as a Kunoichi of the Leaf Village during the past years since the war.
She always had Naruto there to inspire her to become strong because she felt like that would get him to notice her, but now that he has clearly chosen someone else she had to find an even bigger reason to train and get stronger. For the sake of Konohagakure. She has decided to put her whole being into serving the village, and even though she never said it outloud, or maybe even to herself, but she devoted herself to the village as a distraction from all her heartache that has built up over the years. Being rejected by her father, the death of Neji, and now being looked over by Naruto has all left some pretty deep holes and Hinata has chosen to fill those holes with her training and teaching in order to feel like she still has a purpose. It may not be the most healthy way to manage your feelings, by just suppressing and ignoring them, but he had to admit, it has had a huge impact on her strength level as a ninja.
Hinata has always been a talented kunoichi of the leaf village, but now Shino wasn’t to sure if she may currently be the strongest, next to Lady Hokage of course. And maybe Sakura, but Sakura doesn’t keep up on her training as much anymore with her focus being on her hospital and Naruto. Shino would pay good money to witness them to fight it out in the arena, that’s for sure.
“Ya know, you could have asked Kiba to train. He probably would be able to keep up with you for longer.” Wiping the sweat off his glasses he sat down on a nearby stump and watched his indigo haired friend stretch out her long limbs. She turned her silver eyes on him and smiled one of her gentle smiles.
“Kiba tends to talk too much sometimes and I wasn’t in the mood for lengthy conversation this time.” Tilting her head to the side and giving him a classic Hinata grin she continued by saying “besides, I always enjoy your company Shino. You and your beetles. You guys always give me a challenging workout.” She lifted one of her lithe hands to watch a single one of Shino’s beetles climbs its way to the tip of her long finger, open its wings and make its way back to its host. “You guys always provide me with a much needed distracted, I’m always to spend time with you.” Shino watched as she tilted her porcelain face up to the brightening sky above her. “Besides, I don’t want to take Kiba away from Tamaki so soon after their return from their honeymoon. They make such a great couple don’t you think” she asked smiling to herself, face still upturned. “They deserve to have as much time together as possible before Lady Hokage requires them to return to their duties here in the village.” She let out a small content sigh, “I’m so glad Kiba found someone like Tamaki to share his life with, she is so good for him. They are definitely a perfect match that is for sure.” Turning her face back to Shino, he took a second to realize he still has never really gotten use to the genuine goodness that radiates off of his life long friend during times like these. “What about you Shino? When are you gonna settle down hm?” Hinata let out a girly giggle, patiently waiting for his response.
“My father is going to be stepping down as the leader of the Aburame Clan and join the elder’s council since I am turning twenty-one this year. So I have been training and studying with him quite frequently in order to take his place. Besides, it isn’t common for the adults in my clan to have any romantic relationships and children until much later in life.” Hinata listened to him explain with honest interest reflected in her mirror like eyes. “It is our belief that waiting until we are older will ensure that we have obtained the proper knowledge and wisdom to be appropriately prepared to raise our children”
Many people in the village of Konoha think the Aburame clan odd and just don’t try to understand why we are the way we are. Hinata has never made Shino feel weird or unappreciated for his so called “oddness”. So he has always felt at ease when talking to her and comfortable enough to be open about himself and his clan with her. Heck honestly, as far as Shino was concerned, Hinata Hyuga was as close to as perfect a human being as one can get. Even a guy like him can see that she is drop dead gorgeous even though she covers herself with bulky unflattering clothing most of the time. She has muscular but at the same time soft feminine body where all the curves fall in all the right places. Her pale skin glows in any light, and she has let her shiny indigo hair grow out to where it falls in satin sheets to the middle of her back.
It was easy to see that she was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside when you got to know her. If it weren’t for his clan’s requirements to marry and reproduce with a member within the clan, he might have tried pursuing a romantic relationship with his lifelong friend later down the road. But he wasn’t an idiot. He also knows Hinata well enough to see that her heart clearly still yearns for the Uzumaki hero she has so long admired, and that it is going to take one heck of a special man to replace that yellow haired fox’s imprint on her heart. Shino wasn’t fool enough to allow himself to think he was even close to being the man for that job.
“I’m perfectly fine with waiting awhile anyways. I have plenty of work to busy myself with and I don’t need a distraction such as a girlfriend right now.” He followed his friends gaze and also leaned back to admire the beautiful coloring the approaching sunrise has started changing the night sky to. “What about you Hinata?” He sensed his friend’s usual relaxed aura stiffen beside him at the unexpected personal question. Especially coming from Shino who never inquires into the personal lives of anyone. If information is important enough it always finds its way to him. He was a little surprised at himself for not being able to resist questioning his friend this one time.
“Oh, me?...well I…,”
He waited patiently while Hinata stuttered through her nervousness at being caught off guard by Shino’s sudden personal question.
“I’m pretty busy with my work at the academy with all my students really…:” she took a shaky breath as if she was trying to control some emotion from bubbling outwards and Shino instantly felt ashamed of himself for causing his dear friend unnecessary pain.
“Hinata...:”
“I really love those kids, and I get such joy from being in a position to be there for all of my students, to make sure that they know they have someone in their corner rooting for them and supporting them no matter their strengths or weaknesses.”
Shino just watched silently as his best friend stood and started walking away. Hinata paused and Shino admired the way the rising sunlight peaking between the trees from behind his friend made her pale skin glow and her sleek hair reflect the rainbow of colors in the morning sky above her. It made her look even more like an angel, as if he thought that was possible to do. She turned her face towards him one last time and he watched a single tear roll down her soft cheek and sparkle when the light hit it.
“After all, isn’t that why we won the war?, to give the next generation a better life than we ever had? Than we ever will have?...That’s where I have found my passion, so don’t you worry about me okay.”
As Shino watched Hinata walk in the direction of the rising sun he could only whisper to himself, “No man will ever be good enough to be called yours….but I hope beyond hope that you find him one day.”
