A/N: Hey ya'll! It's Kuro-chan here with the next chappie of the Golden Shadow! Hehes, I hope everyone loved the prologue. So, now we'll see how this goes. I honestly hope this lovely piece of epicness of mine is well received. If not, then oh welps I write for my enjoyment as well as for others to read. If you like what I put out then that's great. If you don't then oh welp it's your loss. Hehes, anyways let's get on with the first chappie, shall we? I hope ya'll enjoy. Please R&R!
Chapter 1
When Naruto boarded the ship, he didn't know what to expect. He had only briefly met with the captain. Glancing around, he noticed the captain wasn't within sight. Although the other crew members were bustling around preparing the ship to set sail. He felt a little nervous since he didn't know anyone here. The other crew members were giving him odd looks. He wasn't sure why. He didn't think there was anything odd about him. There were some men and women on board. He shifted on his feet nervously, feeling as though he should pipe up to at least introduce himself.
"Uh, hey," waved Naruto. "I came to join the crew."
"The captain told us," said a dark brunette haired man with lavender eyes. "You're Naruto, correct? Good, it seems I wasn't wrong. My name is Neji Hyuga, remember it well."
"Ok," replied Naruto, uncertain with what else to say to that. "So, where's the captain?"
"Who knows," shrugged Neji. "He might be in the gallows with some whore."
"Heh, yeah you're probably right," spoke up another brunette who had red triangle markings on his cheeks. "it wouldn't surprise me with the sounds I hear behind a door sometimes."
"Enough, Inuzuka," admonished Neji. "We don't want to scare off the blonde, now do we?"
Kiba stuck his tongue out at the stuck up Hyuga, "Nope, oh I forgot to tell you who I am. The name's Kiba Inuzuka. My companion here is Akamaru. Say hi to him."
"Bark!" ruffed a whiteish brown dog beside him as Naruto held out his hand for the pup to smell his scent to become accustomed to him.
When Akamaru gave it a light lick, Naruto withdrew his hand, "Um, so who are the others here?"
"Well, there's Rock Lee over there next to Shino," explained Kiba. "Then there's Sakura and Temari. Aside from that, there's not many people on this crew. I'm glad you decided to join us. We needed another person on here to help out."
"Sure," sweatdropped Naruto. "Do you think we'll head out soon?"
"Most likely, yes," replied Neji calmly, shooting Kiba a light glare.
"Hey, you're new here, right?" asked the blonde haired girl, glancing at Naruto when noticing the two men were speaking with him. "I'm Temari."
"Nice to meet you," said Naruto, uncertain as to why she was eyeing him like that. "I'm Naruto."
"So, what made you want to join our crew?' Kiba asked, poking Naruto's side a few times to get his attention which caused him to laugh at how Kiba acted. "Come on, I'm sure someone like you has a few interesting stories to share. People don't go out to sea for shits and giggles, you know."
"It's kind of complicated," replied Naruto, a little uncomfortable because he didn't know how they would react if he revealed what his reason for being there.
A few moments later, the captain emerged from below deck, noticing Naruto was there he gave him a small smile, 'I see you decided to come along. Good, listen up all of you. We need to set off quickly."
"Aye aye, captain," joked Kiba though he along with the rest of the crew had already prepared the ship. "We're ready though…."
"Ahem, everything has been prepared," interjected Neji. "Let's go already. There's no tiem to waste."
'That's right! With the power of youth we won't fail!" exclaimed Lee enthusiastically.
Sakura sighed, "Yeah…"
Temari shrugged, "I guess so."
"Hmph," was all Shino said due to usually being the silent type and no one really noticed him.
"Right," agreed Naruto, knowing he'd do his best to help out the others.
"Alright then," stated Kakashi. "It's about time we leave the docks."

After a long day of hard work, the crew had decided to stop in order to have some supper before each of them left for their individual quarters. Kiba was up in the crow's nest keeping a lookout. The captain maintained their course, ensuring they wouldn't stray from it. Naruto along with Lee, Neji, Shino, Temari, and Sakura were in the dining hall a few floors beneanth the upper deck. It's not a small ship, but it suffices for the amount of crew members, supplies, etc on board. They were having a bowl of ramen accompanied by some rice balls and fruit. A few of them like Sakura and Neji also had a hot cup of tea with them. Naruto had opted for some water. He wasn't in the mood for tea right now. He stared down at his food, lost in thought. He wondered what his parents would think of him right now. He hoped they were happy in the afterlife together. At least that's what he hoped. He didn't know if they were together in death, but he wouldn't stop beliving in his hopes and dreams.
"Is there something on your mind?" asked Neji, noticing Naruto being quiet though he thought the blonde seemed like the boisterous type.
"Oh, um nothing really," he admitted sheepishly, taking a few mouthfuls of the ramen, swallowing it down as he didn't want the others to worry.
"Alright then," replied the brunette even though there remained a hint of worry in his lavender orbs.
The blonde nodded, enjoying the food as he tried to become used to the other people's pressences. He noticed Kiba wasn't there. He didn't know that Kiba had been stationed for lookout tonight. He glanced out one of the porthole windows, seeing the sun dip down below the horizon. He thought he would finish his food quickly then he'd bring some to Kiba. He didn't know if the lighter brunette with tanned skin had received any supper before he clinbed up there. When he was finished, he excused himself from the others. He grabbed another portion, leaving the others to finish their meals or whatever else they'd be up to. He didn't really know anyone here. He hoped to get to know them in time. When he ascended the stairs towards the upper deck he walked across until he found the rung ladder which would lead him to where Kiba would be located.
"Kiba?" Naruto called out to him.
The brunette's head poked out, "Yeah? Oh, it's you, Naruto. Come up if you want to see the view from up here."
"Sure," grinned Naruto, managing to balance the meal he'd bring to Kiba while he climbed up to join him, handing him the food when he was sitting there beside him. "Here, I brought this for you. I didn't kow if you did or didn't eat beforehand."
"Nah, it's fine," assured Kiba. "Did lee or Neji feed Akamaru? I normally would, but I was rushed up here."
"I think I remember seeing Lee feeding him," informed Naruto as Kiba sighed in relief.
"That's good to hear," he smiled slightly, looking up at the sky. "it's a beautiful sunset, isn't it?"
"Yeah," agreed Naruto, leaning back slightly to look up as well to witness the colors of the setting rays, knowing each one was different.
"Hey, Naruto?' asked Kiba, breaking the comfortable silence between them as they had been watching the sunset for a while.
"Hmm?" hummed the blonde. "What's up?"
"Why did you come here in the first place?" he asked softly.
"Have you ever heard a story your parents told you as a child?" asked Naruto in response, uncertain of how to word it although he'd at least try, noticing Kiba nodded he proceeded with his explanation. "Well, there was one my mother told me often. I've always felt this strange pull towards the sea when I was growing up. I still feel it to this very day. It's as if something or someone is calling for me."
"But those stories…..they're just stories, right?" inquired Kiba, not wanting to hurt his new friend's feelings, but he couldn't hide the curiosity.
"I sometimes think so, but there's still the urge to find out the truth," murmured Naruto wistfully, seeing the last few rays descend underneath the horizon until night fell.
"This was nice," remarked Kiba, sheeding a light smile towards the blonde. "Would you….like to do this again?"
"Sure, I'd like that," confirmed Naruto. "Kiba?"
"Yeah?" replied the brunette, glancing over at him as he wondered what was on Naruto's mind.
"Can I consider you as a friend?"
A/N: Yays! Done with chappie one! I'm sorry it's kind of short. I'm trying to make these chappies somewhat longish, but I don't want to accidentally repeat myself at all. I hope everyone loves this story too. I certainly do, but then again I'm the one writing this. I'll try to have the next chappie out soonish. I know I have my update schedule of writing between five to ten chappies before posting, but I can't help myself with this story. I don't want ya'll to become annoyed waiting around for the next chappie. So, I'll see about when I complete the next one. Until then, please remember to review lovelies!
