Keep telling yourself that The sun was just kissing the glassy surface of the lake and the birds in the trees had gone quite for the night, leaving the beach calm and silent if it wasn’t for the group of people making their way down from the parking lot a few hundred feet away. Music was blasting and bags were heavy with clinking bottles. In no time a bonfire was well on its way and the first beers were being opened. It was tradition of some sorts even I was just the second year they were doing this. You could probably call it a high school reunion, but few people would agree. It was more an excuse to get drunk with friends you didn’t see as often anymore when everyone had gone off to college. As the last rays on sun dipped below the horizon Naruto came tumbling down the little slope leading from the parking lot to the beach. “Sorry I’m late guys. Tsunade wouldn’t let me leave until I promised to spend the day with her tomorrow.” He grinned and plopped down on a log next to Kiba. “Drink up.” Kiba said, handing him a beer. “You have some catching up to do if this is gonna be a party.” Naruto accepted the bottle handed to him and took a swig, letting his gaze sweep over the familiar faces gather around the fire. Almost everyone was there. Sakura was tonguing down Lee, and Naruto absently wondered when that happened. Last he heard Lee hadn’t gotten more than a slap in the face for his efforts in courting the pink haired girl. Letting his gaze continue Naruto spotted Chouji eating chips next to Ino who was chatting away about something and smiled at the familiar site. At least some things didn’t change. “So, what’s new?” Naruto asked, turning to Kiba. Kiba emptied his beer and belched before turning to Naruto and grinning. “Well, Shino is still dating Hinata and her father still doesn’t like it. Lee finally managed to bag Sakura, but no one has any idea how that happened and neither of them will tell. Shikamaru is apparently gay and sleeping with his professor, and Ino has finally admitted she likes Chouji.” Kiba said and took a deep breath. “Wait, what? Shika’s gay? And sleeping with his professor? When the fuck did that happen?” Naruto said, looking around and trying to spot the lazy man. “Fuck if I knew.” Kiba said, shrugging. “Trying to figure him out is like trying to housetrain a cockroach.” Naruto shook his head and smiled. Kiba was right. Trying to understand the logic of Shikamaru’s mind would only result in headaches and a sprained bran. The blond was about to comment, but just then Neji walked up and sat down next to Naruto. “Neji!” Naruto exclaimed and gave the stoic man a one armed hug. “How’s the dyke in denial?” “For the last time, Naruto, Tenten is not a dyke.” Neji sighed, but returned the hug. “Keep telling yourself that. She’s got a black belt in like every martial art known to man, she’s a weapons expert, and she’s dating a guy who looks like a girl. I’d say that qualifies her as a dyke. The only contradiction is that she likes dick. But I guess she’s taking baby steps towards lesbianism.” Naruto chuckled and ducked the fist flying towards his face. “Fuck off, Naruto. Long hair doesn’t have to be girlie.” Neji glared and elbowed the blond in the ribs when he let his guard down. Naruto oof’ed and rubbed the sore spot. “You’re right. You’d probably look girlie in short hair too.” He said and quickly jumped off the log and ran off before Neji could catch him. “Sakura! Save me!” Naruto yelled as he came running and hid behind the pinkette. She looked over her shoulder at the mischievous-looking blond and back towards the fuming Neji coming towards them. “Not a chance in hell. You probably deserve it.” She laughed and watched the outraged look on her former classmate’s face. Hope you liked.
