Wow; I never expected to get so much feedback on this story. I want to thank anyone who reviewed and let me know how much you like this story; I'm really glad since I like it too. I just love writing it; there are just so many possibilities that its plot can take! I hope you guys stick with me through thick and thin because this one is going to be epic! For now though; I'll explain a few things. Sasuke - in this story - will retain his personality and all the traits from the series but with some major soft spots for his Dobe. The Heavenly Realm is like the shinobi world; they work with ninjitsu, taijitsu and genjitsu and he still retains all of his original skills. More of that will be explained at a later date. Oh and if Sasuke give Naruto a pleading look - Think Puss in Boots in Shrek when he uses his ultimate weapon. *sniggers* so cute! For now though enjoy: --------------------------------- Sasuke's mind was heavy with sleep and fatigue but he stirred immediately as his ward moved; ears perked as he listened for any sounds of distress. Sasuke had lost count of the amount of times he had awoken to Naruto's cries of 'don't' and 'please no.'; Naruto had shed enough tears to fill a river the night before as Naruto struggled through several nightmares. Sasuke could still taste the tears on his tongue that Naruto had spilled in his emotional distress and grief for his father's death. Sasuke shuddered lightly when he felt Naruto move closer to him; his heart beating erratically when soft lips placed a kiss on his forehead. "Thank you Sasuke." Bleary Sharingan eyes opened to stare into the purest of blue; if he could Sasuke would be frowning now. Why was Naruto thanking him? He hadn't even done anything to ward a 'thank you'; yet. He reminded himself softly; Sasuke shifted his head to rest on his paws as he just stared at his master. "Don't look so bewildered; Sasuke. If I didn't know better I would think you are human beneath all that fur." Sasuke just continued to glare; Naruto had no idea how right he was. Although Sasuke wasn't considered human he was a Neko Deity but the outcome was the same; his true form was close enough to a human. All his thoughts stopped when he felt Naruto stroke his fur gently; he couldn't stop the sounds of enjoyment that spilled from his lips. Sasuke purred softly stretching under those tickling fingers to feel more; the way they scratched behind his ears and finding his most sensitive places was mindboggling to him. When the fingers stopped in their stroking; Sasuke whined softly. He was enjoying the morning rubdown he was being given by his Naruto. Ears swivelled in every direction as he listened to Naruto move about the room; Naruto's footsteps were light but also slightly uneven. It was slightly worrying but Sasuke merely jumped from his resting place on Naruto's pillow - tail swaying behind him - as he followed his master into the bathroom. He wasn't letting Naruto out of his sight; not after the night his ward had experienced. 'Usuratonkachi.' Sasuke sniggered to himself when Naruto hopped around the bathroom with one pant leg still on whilst trying to pull his shirt over his head; the resulting fall he predicted long before it happened and he didn't even need to use his Sharingan. Luckily there was no blood or any need for him to reveal his identity to his master yet. Red eyes watched in amusement as Naruto finally regained his footing; the cutest of pouts spread across petal pink lips. "Oi! Teme; stop laughing. It's not polite." A series of hisses escaped him that sounded suspiciously like a chuckle; causing Naruto to only frown at him more. Until Sasuke heard the insult; huffing and turning his head away haughtily. 'Dobe.' Sasuke shot back with a glare. Paws flexing when he began pushing Naruto's fallen clothes together to form a little nest before settling there; head resting on his paws as he enjoyed the expanse of tan skin that was revealed to him. Licking his lips and whiskers unconsciously as he mentally devoured Naruto's body. It was almost his time for heat and fuck; Naruto looked so delicious and along with the scent that drifted from his master was enough to make his mind spin with sexual frustration. 'Father; you chose the wrong time to send me to the Human Realm.' Sasuke moaned; his body felt hot and his fur stood on end in his sudden arousal. He couldn't help it; Naruto looked so delicious with water droplets clinging to tan skin as hair the colour of the sun, darkened under the spray of the shower head. Toned thighs, delicate hands, a tattoo of the most intricate pattern on Naruto's stomach and the pink tongue that kept peaking out now and then to lap at the water that ran over petal pink lips all made Sasuke kneed the clothes beneath his paws by retracting and pushing out his claws in frustration. Unconsciously ripping the soft fabric with incredibly sharp nails. 'FUCK!' Was all he could think. ------------------------ "What's this? Did you find a new friend Naruto?" Kakashi asked when he noticed the beautiful cat strutting behind Naruto as if it already owned the house. The sound of the most beautiful bell invaded his hearing and for the first time he really looked at the cat; it was small, had red eyes and the deepest of black fur that it actually shimmered blue. Red eyes that were so captivating that they seemed to look straight through his soul. Kakashi shushed Pakkun who was growling lowly in his lap; yet the cat seemed unfazed. Merely staring at the pug whilst its tail swished behind it and that bell kept making the most hypnotizing sound. "Sasuke actually found me; woke me up the middle of the night by throwing himself against the window." Kakashi's attention snapped back to his nephew as he nodded absently. Something about that cat seemed awfully familiar; those red eyes and even the name. Wait; why had Naruto named him after a character in Minato's bestselling book? "Sasuke?" Kakashi tasted the name; it seemed to suit the cat. Haughty, broody, prideful and the aura surrounding the cat seemed to hold secrets that no one could guess. It definitely fit the character that Minato had described in his masterpiece - Heavenly Realm. "Yup;" Naruto said bending down to place his new pet on his lap before finally noticing the breakfast spread before him. Licking his lips at the traditional Japanese breakfast; miso soup, tamagoyaki (rolled egg omelette), steamed rice and broiled fish all laid on the table neatly and every dish made his mouth water. Naruto looked down when he felt Sasuke's paw on the back of his hand; beautiful red eyes looked at him pleadingly and Naruto chuckled before standing up and collecting two bowls and cream from the fridge. "I can't spoil you every day but since you asked so nicely." Naruto murmured to Sasuke; completely unaware that Kakashi was watching his every move with barely concealed interest. Naruto made sure that the fish he put in the bowl was in small pieces and that the cream was fresh before pouring it; chuckling when Sasuke licked at his fingers to get the pieces of fish that were still there and the bit of cream he had messed on his hand. Carefully placing the two bowls on the ground; Naruto merely watched as Sasuke ate his breakfast without so much as a peep whilst constantly licking at his whiskers to keep them clean. "It's the first time I've seen you being so caring." Kakashi said with a chuckle; mismatched eyes following Naruto's movements when the blonde finally began eating his own breakfast. He was grateful that Naruto was at least eating; knowing that Naruto's grief could easily overwhelm the little Namikaze enough to make him starve himself but watching Naruto with Sasuke was like watching Naruto getting healed slowly but surely by the cat's mere presence. "Hmmm," Naruto hummed; not really paying attention to his uncle as he finished his own breakfast. There were still too many thoughts swirling in his mind and after four days Naruto knew he was still in a state of shock; even now his hands were still trembling constantly as horrifying images flashed before unseeing eyes. He blinked to try and get rid of those emotions but it wasn't working; the world around him was swimming in and out of focus and his heart constricted in his chest. He hadn't noticed but a pained noise lodged itself in the back of his throat and tears -unbidden - dripped from blue eyes as he was suddenly clawing his way through the sorrow that was surrounding his heart. It was a living nightmare; why was he caught up in it again? Why was there so much pain and fear. "Meow." Blue eyes snapped open when a hitched sob escaped parted lips. A soft, furry creature settled its paws on his chest and a rough tongue lapped at the tears he wasn't even so sure he was shedding in the first place. The soft, lilting sounds Sasuke made was calming Naruto and the sound of that silver bell was enough to make his pulse slow and his trembling stop. Fingers petted soft fur, tickled behind the softest of ears as Naruto paid attention to every little detail Sasuke's movements made just to make himself stop thinking of his beloved father. "Sa-su-ke." Naruto said softly blue eyes watching and black ears twitched in correspondence to the swaying tail when he touched those ears and the soft rumbling, vibrating feeling against his thighs when Sasuke curled up in his lap - purring contentedly. Warmth was spreading through his body at the simple contact from the cat's mere presence. "Naruto?" Naruto's attention snapping to his uncle who was leaning on his elbows and staring at him with worry in those mismatched eyes. He flinched; had he really just ignored Kakashi the whole time? Had he even heard him? Kakashi looked so concerned and was that a shimmer of fear he saw in sorrow filled eyes? Blue eyes turned to the ground in shame; he really hadn't meant to do that but it was as if Sasuke stole his attention so wholly that he wasn't aware of anything around him until it was too late. "Are you alright?" Naruto nodded; wiping his eyes on the sleeve of his shirt to get rid of the evidence of his tears. "Yeah." Naruto said softly after a while; fingers petting Sasuke as he calmed completely. "Finish your breakfast Naru-chan; we have a busy day ahead of us. Add to that we need to visit the pet store as well now." Kakashi said with a chuckle; desperately trying to hide his own fears from Naruto. He was afraid for his little nephew; the display of emotions he had just seen had left him reeling with concern. Naruto had gotten so lost in his emotions that even Kakashi couldn't get him to snap out of it but it was Sasuke that had managed to do that; that cat was really something else. Of that Kakashi was certain. ~ "Naruto-kun?" Blue eyes opened blearily to stare at the man before him. Naruto groaned loudly; another detective and another round of questions. He lifted his head from his arms; shuddering slightly when Sasuke - who had slept on his feet - moved and jumped onto his lap. He was in the bookstore for Kami sake; why was he still being cornered by detective and where was Kakashi who had promised to not be longer than ten minutes in collecting his books? "How are you doing? I want to ask you about what you saw on that night." Naruto snorted; eyes turning to the side as he avoided the scarred man in front of him. He didn't want to talk; he had refused to say anything to a psychiatrist what made them think he was going to talk to a detective? Naruto flinched violently when he felt a hand settle on his shoulder; a distressed keen escaping his lips as fear washed over him. Images of blood; screams and horrifying sounds invaded his hearing. Blue eyes glazed over; his breaths coming in soft pants and ragged gasps. "Naruto? Come back to me!" Blue eyes snapped up to meet with mismatched eyes and a concerned frown. "W-wha?" Naruto felt so confused and scattered that he had no idea what had just happened. "Detective Morino Ibiki came by to ask some questions but I sent him away. I'm getting you a bodyguard; no questions asked! I can't stand to see you lose yourself in your grief so much and still have to deal with the pressure these people are putting you under." Naruto nodded; dazed and suddenly exhausted. How long had he been stuck in that bloody nightmare? A scratch on his hand quickly brought Naruto back to himself and he yelped loudly; glaring at the cat in his lap that was now licking at the wounds it had created in an almost sympathetic apology. "What the hell was that for Teme!" Naruto hissed but one look into red eyes was enough to make his heart melt. Without knowing it Sasuke had just spared Naruto another trip into the night he watched as his father was murdered and yet no matter how clear the images were in his nightmares the moment he came out of his daze he could barely remember a single detail of that night. "Did you get the books you were looking for?" Naruto nodded; several books of cats and their care were now resting next to his chair where he had waited for his uncle. Blue eyes watched curiously as Kakashi hid his hand behind his back , the slightest of blushes dusted across pale cheeks. Naruto scowled when Kakashi scratched the back of his neck nervously. "You've bought another of Grandfather's books again didn't you?" Naruto accused but merely chuckled; there were things that would never change. The moment Kakashi started reading 'that' in public Naruto merely shrugged and walked next to him; it didn't help to get flustered as Kakashi would merely ignore him and just carry on walking. "Is there something else you want to do today?" Naruto shook his head; he felt exhausted. Kakashi had kept him busy and on his toes the whole morning; even Sasuke had kept him busy in the pet store. The wind was cold against his skin the moment they stepped outside and Naruto pulled his scarf closer to his neck. It would be snowing soon and Naruto felt cold and desolate; his world was slowly but surely falling apart. The brush of Sasuke's body against his legs made him stumble slightly but also the reassuring sound of a soft 'meow' and that bell was enough to snap him out of his daze again. "We're going to Iruka-sensei." Naruto groaned; so that was the reason Kakashi had been spoiling him the whole day. To not get into his bad books when tricking him into going to the psychiatrist. ~ "Hey Naruto-kun! How are you?" Naruto nodded solemnly as his psychiatrist showed him a blinding smile and a happy greeting. Naruto merely sat in the chair he was offered; not even flinching when Sasuke crept in behind him and jumped on his lap. Intelligent eyes observing the world around him in severe scrutiny. "Oh; I see you've found a companion. What's it's name?" "Sasuke." Naruto said dejectedly; he curled in on himself, arms slipping around his waist to try and keep some of his warmth as a sudden cloud of cold washed over him and he started trembling. The simple sorrowful presence in Iruka's office was enough to squeeze tears to the corner of his eyes as his loss hit him all over again. "Would you like to tell me why you named him after Minato's-sensei's most famous character?" Naruto shook his head in denial. Bleary blue eyes looked up to stare into a set of concerned brown. "Naruto I know this is hard for you but please talk to me; no one knows what you saw five days ago but I can see that it is eating you up from the inside. I've never seen you so rattled, afraid and so close to a mental breakdown. I need to know what happened so that I can help you." At Iruka's exasperated sigh Naruto merely looked away guiltily; his heart pounding in his chest as he knew he had just disappointed one of his family friends and the person who had eventually come close to his 'mother' figure after his Kaa-chan had died. But even Iruka couldn't get him to talk. That fact frightened Naruto; he was so afraid that every touch to his skin made his mind reel and his body shut down as his mind relived through something he couldn't remember afterward no matter how hard he tried. "Why don't you tell me about Sasuke then; was he a present from Uncle Kashi?" --------------------------- The moment darkness fell over Konoha Sasuke observed the change over his dobe; if Naruto had cat ears and tail they would be drooped low and his tail would be fluffed out in fear. He sighed; his father hadn't been kidding when he had said that this was going to be a difficult task. He had never felt so many emotions never mind seen them expressed in a single afternoon by one human. He himself felt pretty helpless himself and every expression that crossed Naruto's face was filled with so much sadness and even fear; it made him wonder if Naruto noticed the worried stares that had followed him the whole day and the whispers of: 'Is that him? Such a tragedy, I hear the body was unrecognizable.' How many times had he wanted to transform and let them taste the edge of his Kusanagi he could not say. Did they know how torn up Naruto was? How their words could affect him if he heard even a single a murmur of it? It made him angry and possessive but he managed to stop his emotions from spilling over too much as he had another task. Look after Naruto and find out what had happened to the elder Namikaze. With a sigh Sasuke touched his nose to Naruto's forehead in a kiss to his slumbering dobe; who twitched beneath the ticklish touch. It was time he did some exploring himself and it was way past midnight so it was safe to switch forms; he stepped back and got ready to release his chakra and with careful concentration and a puff of smoke later he stood on his sandaled feet. He stretched leisurely and worked out the kinks in his spine; his body felt stiff and uncomfortable. That was the exact reason why he really hated being compressed in his cat form. Black eyes blinked to clear his vision as his Sharingan finally activated fully. "Dobe! Wake up for me." Sasuke whispered as he knelt next to Naruto's futon; lips brushing against a sweaty forehead. The heat that touched his lips was slightly alarming but he pushed it aside. The tamoes of his Sharingan spun slowly now and the moment those beautiful blue eyes locked with his he gave a gentle smile; fingers carding through blond locks. "I need you to fall into a deep sleep Dobe and have some nice dreams for a change." He purred as he activated the sleeping jutsu he had just cast; knowing that the hypnotic aid of his Sharingan would aid in Naruto's deep sleep and he wasn't disappointed when he saw blue eyes blink blearily up at him before slipping closed. "Sa-su-ke?" "Hush; Naruto. I'll be back. I promise." Blonde hair shifted through his fingers as Naruto nodded and Sasuke felt his breath hitch painfully in his chest; he had never seen a more beautiful sight. His tail bell rung in the air in an erratic pattern; he was frustrated. He had no idea how to approach Naruto with his real identity and neither did he know how to solve the mystery surrounding Minato's death. With a final kiss to Naruto's forehead and a whisper in his ear; Sasuke stood up and headed for the window. Fingers unconsciously curling around his Kusanagi; the katana hummed at the simplest touch of his chakra. His ear twitched at the sound that invaded his hearing; someone was moving in the house and it was a dormant chakra so it was merely a human and definitely Kakashi. So with a last look over his shoulder; Sasuke headed for the shoji door and slipped out. Taking to the trees as he headed towards the home that resonated with his father's chakra; knowing that it must have been the house of the small Namikaze family. Wind rushed in his ears as he travelled the rooftops of Konoha; the purple tie around his waist - that held his katana - fluttered in the wind when he finally came to a stop. The dark blue shimmer of his father's chakra barrier was the evidence that he had found the correct home but the closer he got, the more dread he felt settling in his stomach. The warmth of his father's chakra was overrun by a cold, dark and strong chakra. The smell of blood drifted around him and clung to his white yukata; his ears easily swivelling to follow the hollow echoes that the wind whispered. Whatever had happened in this home had definitely been no work of a human being; hell he could even feel the touch of a powerful sealing technique and a glint of a heavenly kunai that was lodged in the wall of the home. Definitely not human. "Katon element?" He asked himself as caught the whiff of a fire nature chakra. So it had been someone that had an affinity to fire and was filled with hate; they were either part of the Fire God's clan - the Kyuubi no Kitsune line - or from the Uchiha clan... "That's odd." Sasuke shook his head; fingers resting on the stain of blood on the ground. It was crusted and dried but the scent drifting from it was enough of a liking to Naruto's that it was definitely Minato's but what made Sasuke stop in his tracks was the smell of Kitsune; it wasn't a random scent. No; I was directly coming from the blood. Could the elder Namikaze have been a distant relative to a Kitsune Deity? That would explain the depths of Naruto's chakra reserves but something was bothering him; why would his father not alert him that Naruto could be part Kitsune? If he hit his heat it was going to be very hard to control himself... With a sigh Sasuke stood up from his kneeling position; something about this house was setting him on edge but Sasuke had to push those emotions aside. He had found the room where the crime had taken place but he had yet to explore the rest of the home. The deeper he moved the more he felt warm chakra stain the home; so the murderer didn't look past his intended victim. He shuddered when he sensed the trace amounts of frightened chakra on the staircase; that must have been where Naruto had been when everything took place. When he crouched his eyes had a clear view of the front room where Minato had been killed; what he saw made his heart clench in his chest. This meant that Naruto had watched as everything happened; he could even smell Naruto's blood and saliva on the hardwood floor. Had Naruto's bit through his lip? When Sasuke found the master bedroom he started at the invisible seal that had been traced on the ground; it was definitely his father's chakra and he knew the taste on his tongue was definitely that of Susanoo's summoning. Why was there such a powerful seal in both Naruto's and Minato's bedroom? Sasuke had never seen his father use such complex jutsu just for a 'friend'. Something was off about that; could there be secrets that this family held that only Tou-sama knew? It was the glint of a Heavenly Kunai that dragged his attention to the chakra dagger; such a light turquoise colour. It wasn't anyone's colour he knew but the chakra was warm; light and filled with love. So it didn't belong to the killer; Sasuke carefully approached the chakra kunai. It was resting on a stack of books; definitely books of importance. He could see the dust that covered them; it was odd as Naruto and Minato had been living there merely four days ago. Sasuke stalled; his finger tracing away the dust. It was an Uchiha fan that was emblazoned in the leather journal that grabbed his attention. "Shit." Sasuke muttered under his breath; Tou-sama had a lot of explaining to do but for now he had better seal these journals. There were six in total and he could tell that they held important personal information on Minato; they were now a part of his investigation as they also belonged to Naruto. Sasuke sighed as summoned a large storage scroll; the blue, red and white scroll was heavy in his hands but he merely broke the seal with a simple drop of his blood and carefully began drawing the jutsu marks. Intricate writing that was only known to him and his clan that was passed down from the Shinobi era of the Heavenly realm appeared on the scroll pitch black. Two hours later he wiped at his forehead before taking a deep breath; drawing seals with a constant stream of controlled chakra was tiring work. Sasuke carefully placed the six journals on their respective seals and brought his hands together in a hand seal. "Fuu."(1*) He said finally and with a puff of smoke; the journals were safely sealed away by the Kuro Arashi Fuinjutsu (2*) and held in a space time ninjitsu that he could call upon at a later date. Sharingan eyes stared at the progression of the moon and sighed; it was time to head back. But before he did that he needed to visit Naruto's bedroom. "What I wouldn't do for you Dobe." Sasuke said sadly as he pushed the door open; his father's seal tickling across his skin when he stepped inside. That was no surprise since his father had mentioned that Naruto was important to him just as Minato was. After an hour of searching; Sasuke couldn't find anything of real value to his investigation but out of courtesy he grabbed the two framed picture on Naruto's nightstand. One of him as a small child resting on his father's shoulders with a red haired woman laughing delightedly and the other of Naruto sitting between his father's legs; eating an ice cream whilst a long white haired man leaned over them both to ruffle Naruto's hair. They must have had sentimental value for his master; so he sealed them into his personal storage scroll. With a final look at Naruto's desolate room he picked up the large scroll that held the journals and tied it across his back; careful to not disturb his Kusanagi and hurt himself in the process. His tail unconsciously curled around the scroll as an extra precaution. ~ Red eyes observed the lightening sky; the sun was starting to dye the deep blue a more colourful and brighter purple. Sasuke was tired; exhausted even. It had been a while since he needed to use so much controlled chakra over a long period of time but Sasuke knew that he needed to seal Kakashi residence as well to keep the unwanted murderer out and away from his ward; with a final glance at the moon Sasuke doubled his speed. He didn't think he was going to have enough time to seal the home before Naruto woke up from the sleeping jutsu and Kakashi started to notice his absence. He crept into the room; tail swaying behind him in annoyance. He had spent too much time in the Namikaze residence. He had made it just in time to seal the scroll in a summoning jutsu and get back into his compressed form before the shoji doors slid open and Kakashi peeked in to check on his nephew. Pakkun trotting in behind him and laid by Naruto's feet. "Look after Naruto for a while Pakkun, Sasuke." Sasuke stared at the silver haired man in annoyance; his silver bell ringing incessantly. Did this man think he couldn't do his job? He was strong, capable and had more than enough to look after his Dobe. With a snort he rested his head on his paws; yawning lightly before slipping his eyes closed. Purring softly as he settled next to Naruto; rubbing his ears against Naruto's cheek. He was happy right where he was and he didn't want to move. It was too much effort after such an exhausting night. With a final reminder to himself to set the barrier the next night; Sasuke finally slipped into dream land with his Dobe. --------------------------- 1* - Fuu - Seal 2* - Kuro Arashi Fuinjutsu - Black Storm Sealing technique Thanks so much for reading and I hope this chapter was up to standards for you guys.
