---------------------------------- A long life was a lonely existence and Naruto had to ease his boredom somehow; dressing in black shorts with a loose poet's shirt and boots as well. The hitai-ate tied carefully around his neck. Naruto made his way towards the night life to forget the turmoil of the day. He shook his head as he approached the gothic club 'Black Snow', smiling as he thought of how his friends would have reacted had they know. Sasuke would have joined him and Gaara would have fit in really well here; just like Naruto did now. Taking a leaf from Gaara's book his eyes were lined in thick kohl and looked both bright and sorrowful. How he managed to pull that off, he never knew. The music was slow and haunting; good just the way Naruto liked it. His whisker like marks seemed to stand out in this crowd as everyone always complimented them. If only they knew what had given it to him; they would run for the hills and never look back. He approached the bar and ordered a drink not spiked with too much alcohol; the substance made Kyuubi restless and volatile towards his old habits. Meaning, trying to break free and take Naruto down with him. "Here, nice to see you again Naruto." Said the bar tender and Naruto nodded a thanks for the drink and only partially listened to the conversation the other man was attempting to have with him. Naruto felt Kyuubi's chakra tingle against his and frowned, Kyuubi rarely did that unless he wanted to warn him against something or someone. "What is it fox." He softly whispered to himself. Startled when Kyuubi gave an exasperated sigh. 'You really are as dense as you used to be when you were back in Konoha. I think we need to train more in your sage mode considering it is best for you pick up your chakra sensing skills. ' Kyuubi said lazily; tails whipping about him in annoyance. "What are you talking about?" He muttered as he sidled off the bar stool to avoid suspicious looks from the bar tender and others seated closely to him. He swayed through the dance floor slowly and deliberately headed for an empty booth in the darker parts of the club. 'Really, you didn't notice?' Kyuubi sounded surprised only to let out a deep chuckle. 'You'll find out soon enough.' Naruto frowned before turning blue eyes upward to stare at the crowd, seeing nothing out of the ordinary he sighed and went back to his drink. He didn't even look up when he felt a body sidle next to him in the booth and leaned against him; a sly hand resting on his thigh. "I never thought I'd see you here." The slightly familiar voice purred and Naruto bristled. "Listen, asshole take your hand off me before I break you into thousands of pieces. I may not look like it but I'm way stronger than you..." Naruto trailed off as his eyes finally stared into another pair of blue; he was shocked beyond his core. So that's why Kyuubi had been so sly about telling him what he felt. "Da," He had to stop himself before he blurted out the wrong word. "Minato what are you doing?" Naruto hissed as he observed those charismatic blue eyes and an amused smile. The deep chuckle that filled his ears was sending a blush across Naruto's nose. "Wow, you seem pretty volatile for someone as little as you. May I ask, how old are you professor?" Minato asked, genuinely curious. Naruto was ashamed to know that even at eighteen his father was about a head taller than him. He scowled before reverting to his old personality quickly. "27 if you must know. Are you old enough to even be in this club?" Naruto returned sarcastically. Blue eyes narrowing at his new student. "Yes, I'm eighteen(*1)." Naruto snorted as he sipped at his drink, annoyed when it was yanked out of his hand and Minato took a sip. Naruto stared at him with wide eyes; wow his father had nerve that Naruto doubted even he possessed. "Why are you here?" Naruto hissed and attempted to create a bit of distance between them reluctantly as he felt comfort travel trough him at Minato's touch. Blue eyes flashed in amusement before settling back to their warm glow. "I was bored and my friends decided to drag me out for the evening. Saying I was all antisocial and all. What about you?" Minato asked. "Didn't feel like sitting home and doing nothing the rest of the night." Naruto replied quietly. Not wanting to spill the real reason yet... "Professor Uzumaki? May I ask where you learned that melody you played earlier today?" Naruto was surprised at the question and turned his own electric blue eyes upon his student. "I'll tell you but promise me you'll call me Naruto please." Naruto asked; the very least he wanted to hear his father at least call him by his name and not a formality. It was said with such sadness and conviction that young Minato was startled before nodded and saying a soft; "Ok Naru-chan." Naruto gave a sad smile; happy at the little nickname. It was something he had wanted to hear for many centuries. His father calling his name instead of only Kyuubi to be there with him and bring comfort. "That melody was nothing, I hardly play pieces that were written and I hardly lecture on them. I believe in allowing your soul to lead you as you allow your heart to play. So that's where I created the melody, it was my emotions." Minato was momentarily stunned by the beauty of the person in front of him. "Wow Naruto you must be really sad about something." Minato intended to not say the words but the slipped through his mouth before he could catch them. He thought he was about to be berated by this angel for the first time but was only graced with a delightful chuckle. "I suppose you're right Minato-kun. But promise you won't tell on me?" Naruto joked and saw a flicker of something in Minato's eyes as the younger man nodded. "I have two more questions." Minato stated and Naruto nodded giving him consent to carry on. "Those scars, may I ask what happened?" Naruto cringed and shook his head. "Perhaps when we know each other better." Naruto said as he turned his head away and stared at the crowd. "The thing around you neck. What is it?" Minato asked curiously as he observed the strange plate on material. "This," Naruto chuckled as his fingers brushed against the metal. "Is a hitai-ate but that is a story for another time." Naruto smiled as he crawled over Minato's lap to escape the booth. Blue eyes locked with blue as Naruto nodded his head in good bye; his words trailing behind him. "See you in class Minato and don't be late. I might decide to punish you as I did to Kakashi once." Naruto chuckled, blue eyes dull and lifeless as he slipped into the darkness of the night and towards his car. ----------------------------------------------- Minato sat there stunned as he watched his art professor slink out of the club as if he was walking on nothing; such was his grace. Those last words ringing in his mind. "I might decide to punish you as I did to Kakashi once." Did he know about his younger adopted brother? Minato shook his head, there was just no way Naruto would know about his little brother. He sighed and stood up himself, making his way towards the exit. Without meaning to he walked on towards his home, not really paying attention to anything around him. His mind kept turning around Uzumaki Naruto. It felt so familiar and a bond he did not understand between them was formed. He shook his head and frowned when he turned left and went up the stairs to the local shrine. He did not notice the sleek black car standing at the curb nor did he see Naruto until he turned his eyes towards the figure; head bowed in prayer as lips moved in whispers. Minato was stirred from his reverie when said figure turned his head towards the stars and abruptly yelled. "You stupid fucking fox! Why didn't you let me die! Then I wouldn't have relive this pain over and over again!" Naruto yelled, his affection towards Kyuubi stained by bitter sadness as he reigned in his tears. The emotions were so much like that night when everything was taken from him. "Don't 'kit' me! I'm so fucking tired! I want to die please Kyuubi; isn't there one little thing you could do for me?" Naruto sobbed to himself; it had been a long time since he had a break down such as this. Completely unaware of the presence watching the scene with concerned eyes and a frightened heart. "I know Kyuubi; I'm sorry. Let's just forget about this you stupid old fox. Go back to sleep." Naruto murmured, chastised by his tenant. The wind picked up as Naruto whispered his last prayer before leaving. "I'm sorry Tsunade for not helping in the end, I'm sorry Jiraiya for not helping you when you left and most of all I'm sorry Kakashi for not listening to you..." Naruto whispered brokenly over the seemingly mark less earth; only he knew who was buried at that exact spot. "But out of all that I'm most sorry, Dad, for being born in the first place." Was his final whisper and with that his chakra was gathered to his feet and he jumped into the trees and headed towards his car, wiping frantically at his eyes to stop the tears from spilling over in a continuous stream. ~ Minato had never felt such pain and heart ache as he watched Naruto scream his pain and what he heard left his heart breaking for the young teacher. 'I'm most sorry, Dad, for being born.' Those words carved a wound in his chest for Naruto and even then he felt his own tears threatening to spill over. As he wiped at his eyes to get rid of the evidence, frowning when in those few seconds Naruto had disappeared and all he heard was the rustle of leaves in the wind. Maybe Naruto had decided to walk deeper into the shrine? "I need to get back." Minato said to himself as he continued his trek home; his father should be up still and maybe they could talk. Minato felt a sudden urge to make sure that his father loved him still, his mind kept wandering what it would be like if he was sorry he was born. "Tadiama," Minato whispered softly as he entered the large traditional home. His voice was soft but travelled easily. He heard footsteps rushing towards him and was startled when smaller arms wound around him in a tight embrace. "Okairi Nii-san." The small boy whispered. Minato returned the warm hug and ruffled gravity defying grey hair. "Is Chichiwe still awake?" Minato asked his little brother. There was a nod against his stomach and Minato pried arms from him and patted Kakashi's head before whispering in his ear. "Time to go to bed. We don't want to get into trouble now do we Kashi?" Minato said and watched as his little brother headed towards his room. Tentatively he walked forward and knocked on the door to his father's study. After hearing a soft 'enter' he proceeded forward. "Oh, Minato I haven't heard from you in a while. How are you doing?" His father asked happily as he turned his attention towards his oldest son. "I'm good. Just worried about tomorrow." He whispered to himself. "No need to worry. You'll do fine. Minato is something the matter?" His father inquired after noticing the look of concern and fear in his son's eyes. This was not normal compared to his son's constant warm and gentle eyes. "Dad what would you do if you knew someone was really sad and wanted to end their life?" He asked softly. "I don't know Minato. But one thing I'll tell you is that I would rather try to console that person myself rather than doing something behind their back like going to the hospital or otherwise." Minato's father said with a serious tone and knew something was bothering his oldest son. He just hoped Minato would know what to do when the time came. "I'll say this Minato. If you're asking me this because you are really concerned then I believe you will do the right thing regardless of my advice." "Thanks Dad." Minato said as he prepared to stand up and leave. "Better get some good rest. Tomorrow is a new beginning in your life." "Night Dad," Minato said with an affectionate smile as he headed towards his bedroom. His father's words following him. "Oyasumi Minato." ---------------------------------------- As Minato slipped under the covers of his futon he just hoped that he could help Naruto-sensei after what he had seen tonight. No one should be burdened with that much sadness and heart breaking sorrow. It was just unfair and Minato hoped that he could help Naruto carry that pain and share the burden; he himself knew how much pain could leave you feeling weak and vulnerable and Naruto was no exception to that rule. Only Minato had never seen anyone with so much pain before that is seemed to hang thickly around the young professor. His mind kept drifting back to those words that were spoken in pained yells. Even yelling at a deity was enough to convince the young Namikaze that he needed to take action and try to help his teacher. Dreams were fast in coming and with them a strange nostalgia and the utter feeling that it had happened to him before... --------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ A/N: *1 - At eighteen in South Africa we are allowed in clubs and are considered legal adults.
