A/N : THIS STORY IS KILLING ME.
I really need to write third PoV more often. I keep trying you write "you" instead of "her, or "Sakura, and vice versa. Eck. Rates and Reviews are very, very loved. Enjoy. ************************** Frail fingers drum across the lacquered wooden table. Agitated, as was per usual. Hinata's late. They usually had lunch together on her break. Hinata was apparently busy. Sakura instead mentioned they might go get some tea later on in the afternoon. Hinata was still busy. She then insisted upon dinner together at one of the few Hibachi grills because while Sakura was on a perpetual diet, it was a nice change of pace to go get dolled up for a change. She looks down at her short, stubby fingernails, chipped green polish chipping off in sections. Being spending most of her days elbow-deep inside severely injured shinobi nullified any reason to take care of her nails, or wear makeup, or jewelry, or do her hair. And a baby would mean even LESS time to do any of that. Sakura frowns, suddenly feeling uncomfortable, but she attributes it tot he rush of air from the door restaurant door opening. She hopes it isn't anyone she knows, because while it's award enough sitting her alone waiting for her girlfriend, she really, REALLY isn't in the right state of mind to socialize with friends, or god forbid a teammate. /Please not Ino/ She crosses her fingers behind her back. /Or Tsunade-taichou, or Shizune, or Kakashi or Sai, or-/ A flash of bright orange and messy blonde hair has her heart sinking into her stomach. And plugging her ears as the heated debate between her and their former sensei escalates, (something about Pakkun? She couldn't make it out) and they seat themselves on the shared table adjacent to her. She ducks behind her menu, knowing full well she couldn't hide behind it forever, but maybe she can stall for some time. She scans the area under her chair, below her knees. Aside from the cinnamon buns she'd picked up for Hinata, she had nothing. That and the bantering has ceased. She's probably been spotted already. Tentatively, she lowers the menu, and to her horror, reveals her entire team. Kakashi, Yamato, Sai- /wait/ And she's enveloped into a crushing bear-hug from behind. /goddamnit/ “Gotcha” It's followed by his typical giggle-snorting, and despite her really not wanting to deal with anyone right now, she can't help the corners of her mouth twitching into a smile. “Hi Naruto” She turns around to face him, and decides that his Cheshire cat grin is contagious as her feeble smile stretches across her face. And she returns the gesture, though not as feverently as he did. “Sakura,” he gives her a once over, and she feels a vein throbbing in her head because typical Naruto always ebeing a pervert. “You look amazing. What're you all dressed up for?” “I'm meeting Hinata here.” Sakura shuffles uncomfortably. “We've got a lot to talk about-” His eyes widen in concern. “Uh-oh. Couple issues? You guys get in another fight?” “No, nothing like that.” she waves her hands dismissively. “Just, something else we've been talking about. 'Couple business' as you'd put it.” she says, nudging him playfully. He laughs, genuine relief in his face, and Sakura feels a warmth spread through her entire body. Only Naruto could do that. Make her feel like everything would work out. Always cheerful, upbeat. It'd been ages since Sasuke's trail had gone cold, and though he still spent every waking hour searching for him, or reinforcing his promise to find him, he was still so optimistic. It's in the eyes. So expressive, so deep, you could always tell his mood from them. Sometimes when Sakura looks into them she feels herself /melt/. And it's times like this Sakura understands why Hinata had loved him. A fake cough jars her from her musings. It's coming from Kakashi, obviously feeling left out, and she realizes with a sheepish smile that she's pretty much forgotten the rest of her team being there. Kakashi clears his throat “If you two are done with the physical contact-” It's /then/ she realizes she never let go of Naruto, and she quickly pushes him away, nearly knocking him off balance in the process. It's awkward, they haven't been on a mission together in nearly a month, separate missions, hospital work, the like keeping them busy in their respective ways. Against her better judgment she sites between Sai and Naruto. Only until Hinata comes, at least that's what she tells herself, and she tries to pretend that she doesn't like being so close being to Naruto, because she'd have to move once Hinata comes anyways. She never comes. After it's clear that her girlfriend isn't showing up, and uncomfortable silence falls over the group after it becomes apparent that she isn't coming. It's only after she's bid her goodbyes on an empty stomach that her anger and disappointment is replaced by concern. Hinata was never late. If she even /thought/ she was going to be held up she'd mention it. And apologize profusely. And god forbid she actually MISS a date. All of this twists and churns inside Sakura's head, finally molding into a coherent thought. And a frightening one at that. Something is wrong. She makes a mental checklist. She probably wasn't at the apartment, she usually didn't visit Kiba or Kuranai during the week, she'd occasionally train with Shino, but she hadn't done that in ages. So she turns in the only logical direction, and with her nervousness turning to all out fear she opts to run, not walk. She'd snuck into the Hyuuga compound many a lonely night before to see Hinata, back before they moved in together, so she has no problems bypassing every trap, guard, alarm. /Seven windows down, third floor/ She slips a kunai, the only she always kept hidden in a leg holster on her inner thigh and uses it to pry open the window. Empty. She nevertheless slides through the narrow opening and into the room, treading as silently as she could towards Hanabi's room. Again, no-one. She scrunches her face, mind racing. There was Neji's room, but that was in a different building entirely, and while she could check the main floors, it would require much more time and effort on her part to continue undetected. “Sakura?” Her heart jumps into her throat, and she wheels around, kunai still in hand to see Hanabi. She breaths a sigh of relief. “Hanabi-san.” Sakura places a hand over her chest. You scared me. She says nothing, instead staring with a mildly perturbed look on her face. Sakura frowns. Hanabi had never liked her. Hinata was different from the other Hyuuaga, at least in Sakura's mind, in that she looked at you, /gazed/ at you. She didn't stare. Most Hyuuga's stare. And with pupil-less, blank, milky eyes, staring wasn't a good thing. In fact, it made her extremely uncomfortable. Hanabi knows it makes her uncomfortable. She doesn't stop. /Brat./ “I'm looking for Hinata.” Sakura starts to break the akward slilence. “She was supposed to meet me for dinner-” “She was here, talking with father.” Hanabi interrupts, though flatly. More silence. More staring. More reasons to reconsider having kids. “And where is she now?” Sakura finally deadpans, giving her best. “No more bullshit” look to the young Hyuuga.” “Neji took her.” She grits her teeth. Oh the things she would do to this kid if she wasn't Hinata's sister. “Took her /where?/ “Konoha Hospital. She collapsed about three hours ago.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
