Power
Trip: n.
Slang An
action undertaken chiefly for the gratification associated with the
exercise of power over another or others
**************
“Hinata…”
Naruto
sighed following Sakura silently.
“Did I make a monster out of the nicest girl in the world?”
*~*~*
“Simple
Question, dummy. No wonder your son is the lazy bastard he is.”
“This
Kimono is a family heirloom. Can your apology take the water marks
out of it?”
Her
voice kept running circles in his mind. He thought he had addressed
this guilt of his long before making the return trip home. He had
made peace with the fact that he couldn’t return her love and
would have to deal with yet another really awkward work relationship
with the shy girl. He had decided he would have to take any tongue
lashings from Shino and Kiba on her behalf, which might have been
accompanied with some form of physical pain. Never in his wildest
dreams he didn’t think that it would be Hinata who could be
dealing his punishment.
“I
said don’t address me so familiar. A third time and you die.”
Not
even Kiba was safe from her meanness. Her teammate.
“Now
more than ever, I could use guidance.” He looked down at his
father’s monument. That was another thing that kept him at bay.
With the knowledge of who his father truly was it set him back a bit.
The more he looked at himself in the mirror the more he couldn’t
realize why he never realized the resemblance.
“Hinata-Sama,
please step back from there.” A young maiden’s voice
cried out.
“Listen,
you are new and young and worry but you don’t tell me what to
do. I know what I’m doing.”
“Uhm.
Oh.” Naruto laid back and saw her there. Hyuuga Hinata standing
on top of Granny Tsunade’s head the wind blowing fiercely up
there. Just being on top of Hokage monument the winds kicked up and
with the wrong kind of person they could easily be blown away.
Fortunately, Hinata was the right kind of person and so there she
stood there her lengthy hair whipping around her, her black kimono
with the cherry blossom flowers fluttered around her.
At
that moment, she was, in a word, stunning.
“Hinata-Sama.”
A more familiar voice called to her and a frown marred her pale
features and she turned around, her tranquil moment destroyed.
“Neji-Nisan.”
She walked back to him a few feet away a palanquin awaited her.
“It’s
time to leave.” Neji’s face was still permanently stuck
in that ‘life sucks’ face. Naruto had to chuckle, that
would never change.
“Is
this one at least old enough to drink?” Servants pulled aside
the curtain to the palanquin and she made a face before getting
inside, a shadow let Naruto know the young woman wasn't alone in the
cart..
“I
don’t know.” Neji groaned softly his features tightened
as he turned. It was then he noticed the flash of yellow and he
straightened up and nodded at the blonde young man.
“Yo!”
Naruto greeted the young man who just nodded at him again and turned
to leave.
“What
do you mean you don’t know?” Hinata moaned. “I
think you’re spending far too much time with Lee-San.”
He
heard Hinata groan from inside the palanquin.
“I
do not spend a lot of time with-with him, and I do not think you
should be worrying about such things. You are an heiress now and do
not have idle time to prattle on about others.”
“No.
Of course not. I just have to worry about finding a husband and
getting pregnant with some punk ass children.”
“What
ever happened to that person you loved before?” A softer voice
came from the palanquin.
“Who
said I ever loved someone?” Hinata got indignant.
“But
Neji-Nisan said-”
“Neji-Nisan
doesn't know everything; so don't believe everything he says,
Hanabi.” The palanquin's sheer curtain peeked open and Neji
became the target of her evil glaring.
“Okay.”
Hanabi murmured.
“Hm?”
Hinata murmured softly her gaze now on the monument. Neji looked at
his cousin who merely narrowed her eyes and closed the curtain
without another moment. She had seen Naruto and didn't flinch. Maybe
after all these years of hurt and pain she really did break, as the
Dog-Nin has been claiming.
“I
won't be joining you.” Neji said suddenly and the curtain
peeked back again as the servants began to carry her down the hill.
“And
why not?” Her delicately plucked eyebrow lifted in question.
“Because
I have a mission, Hinata-Sama.”
“Tch.”
The curtain closed against. “You should quit that business of
being a Shinobi.”
“Hinata-Sama.”
“I'm
serious. Its not really a glorious lifestyle and you can be killed.”
“You
once were a Shinobi as well.” Neji felt a migraine coming on.
“And
I realized it was moot. You can't make a difference by being a
Shinobi. On paper it's a glorious lifestyle and we all want to be
remembered in history in some form or other, but there are other ways
of doing so. The reality of it all is this, Neji-Nisan: Ninja are
nothing but weapons for others to use to their advantage. So if you
don't mind being used like a worthless whore, then by all means
continue what you're doing.”
“It
seems, I really was wrong.” Neji said suddenly when the
palanquin stopped to let the girls out to board a cart.
“I'm
sorry?” She looked at him.
“I
mean I knew I was wrong. Uzumaki Naruto showed me as much years ago.”
He watched the female, waiting for a reaction to the name. Nothing.
“I said people don't change and they are locked i-”
“Get
to the point, Neji-Nisan.” She stepped onto the dusty street
lifting the hem of her kimono.
“I
never knew you could be so, unlike you.” He concluded.
“Why
does everyone assume that they knew who I was?” Her eyes
narrowed. “You're just like everyone else around this good for
nothing village who didn't know me.” She stepped forward and
looked Neji in the eye a finger coming up to point in his face. “You
all just ignored me and let me be to my own devices only noticing
when I made strides and an effort to stand my ground. Well, I will be
neglected no more, cousin.”
She stared at him longer their gazes locked.
“I
was right about one thing.” He brought his hand up to grab the
finger gingerly. “You can't hide from my eyes, Hinata-Sama.”
She narrowed them more. “You may have the others fooled, but
being here, seeing it all, knowing the truth. You can't hide from
me.”
“I
loathe you.”
“I
love you too.” He smirked, she frowned then boarded the wagon.
“Come back engaged.”
“Go
rot in a pit.” She rolled her pale eyes and got on the back of
the cart. She looked back at Neji before a small smile graced her
features and Neji, he simply smiled back. “If you knew the
truth...” The smile on her face grew colder, more bitter; his
smile faltered slightly. “You're no better then the rest of
them.”
“You
know I didn't until now.” He made a face.
“I
see.” She turned her back to him and the cart took off.
“Welcome
back.” Neji said suddenly and turned to face Naruto who landed
behind him.
“Long
time no see!” Naruto smiled.
“Yes.
It has been a long time. Two years was it?”
“Almost
three.” Naruto scratched the back of his head with a sheepish
grin.
“I'm
sure you've gotten some amazing training in.” Neji turned his
back and started walking. Naruto followed.
“Of
course. I couldn't spend the two years just being the same.”
“You
worried a lot of people.” Neji said.
“Oh?
Is that so?”
“You
became this village's hero.” Neji turned his head to look at
him. “When you selfishly left a lot of people thought you had
died those first four months. When your first notice came it was like
a blanket of relief washed over the village.”
“Oh
come on, stop exaggerating.” Neji stopped.
“When
have I been known to exaggerate?” A moment of silence passed,
then Neji continued to walk.
“Surely
not everyone worried.”
“No.
Just a majority. They all pretended to not care. But we knew.”
“Oh!
Is that why Hinata is-”
“You'd
do best to at least add “San” honorific.” Neji blew
out. “To answer your question; No. She got over your
disappearance rather quickly. I guess because she spend two months in
an unconscious state.”
“So
then...” The question was stuck in his throat
“Its
not my place to speak on the matters of the main house.” Neji
sighed. “But I'm sure she will speak with you if you asked
her.” Neji turned a corner to the gates of Konoha.
“Will
she talk to-”
“Neji!
You made it!”
“Lee...
What are you-?” Neji continued to frown. Rock Lee was in the
middle of doing handstand push ups. His shirt was missing and sweat
dripped to the dust beneath his face. On top of his feet sat TenTen,
cross legged eyes closed, thumbs to middle fingers; meditating.
“We
figured-” Lee huffed, obviously having been at this for a
while. “-Hinata-San-” Huff, huff. “-held you up so
we waited-” Huff. “for you like this.”
“Actually
he was doing his thing.” TenTen spoke up, eyes still closed.
“And complained about not enough weight then asked me for
assistance.”
“And
you didn't take that as an insult?” Naruto said suddenly.
“Sakura-Chan would've killed me for what it insinuated.”
“Eh?”
Lee made a shocked sound. He bent his arms for the lowest part of his
push up, with his usual amazing force he pushed up so hard, both he
and TenTen gained some height. Lee landed on his feet first, then
caught TenTen in his arms, both were now looking at Naruto. Lee set
TenTen on the ground his face, red from his prior exertion,
brightened to a wide smile. “Naruto! Sakura-Chan said you were
back!”
“Hmm?”
TenTen inspected the blonde boy. “He looks a little stronger
than last time I saw him.” She looked to the sky jogging her
memory.
“Ehehe,
thanks.”
“Have
I changed?” Lee flashed a grin and thumbs up worthy of Maito
Guy. Naruto just chuckled.
“Yeah
you have.” He smiled more. “So many people have changed.”
“How
about me?” TenTen smiled. Her Chinese style shirt had no
sleeve, and she had filled out quite a bit as a female, but was still
relatively tiny. If she put on some weight she'd be a real catch.
Naruto groaned mentally, he was becoming his godfather.
“Hahahaha...”
He
heard his tenant laugh.
“Definitely!”
Naruto rubbed his head nervously.
“Hmm?”
TenTen looked at him. “Have you seen Hinata yet?”
“TenTen!”
Neji said sharply.
“Hinata-San”
TenTen held up her hand in mockery.
“Yeah,
I saw her.” Naruto said mentally frowning. “We haven't
spoken yet”
“Hm.
Okay.”
“We
should go.” Lee had pulled on his shirt and vest. “We
have a day's worth of traveling.”
“Oh
its an easy mission.” TenTen leaned into Naruto like she was
sharing gossip. “We're just watching some big wig's wife. It
seems every month she needs to journey to her home village for family
village and the husband thinks she has a little boyfriend on the side
there.”
“TenTen!”
Neji called her name again.
“What?”
“You
shouldn't underestimate a mission. You know as well as I how quickly
a mission can go from a D rank to a B rank.” He sighed.
“Fine
fine. See you, Naruto.”
“When
I get back I want to see how strong you've become.” Lee
grinned.
“Bye.”
Neji nodded and the trio walked off.
“Lee,
you stink now!” TenTen pushed the boy before they all vanished
from their spots and took off sprinting to the trees.
“Have
you seen Hinata yet?” The
question seemed odd to Naruto. No one had been speaking of the girl.
“Did
everyone but me know?” He thought suddenly.

“Five
days, Hanabi.” Hinata scowled looking at herself in the mirror
placing her hair ornaments in her elaborate hairstyle held together
with pins and ribbons. “Five days with Master Glutton and
Mother Piggy.”
“That's
not nice, Hinata.”
“Well,
it's true!” Hinata sighed. “Sit.” She finished her
own hair and started on her sister's lengthy hair. “I'm going
to decline the offer.”
“Father
will be unhappy, again.” Hanabi frowned.
“Father
is a weak man. I don't care what he has to say.”
“Father
is not weak!” Hanabi's eyebrows furrowed.
“Father
is a weak man, Hanabi.” Hinata narrowed her eyes finishing a
simper hairstyle for her sister. “He probably knew this suitor
was a porker and that's why he sent you to accompany me rather than
come himself.”
“Stop
talking bad about father!” Hanabi pushed her sister who only
fell on her bottom. “Father is a good strong man! He's strict
but he's not weak!”Hanabi shrieked. Hinata only smirked.
“That's
right.” The smirk made Hanabi's blood run cold. It was the look
she gave whenever she was going to lash out at someone. “You're
the prized child. The precious, precious Hanabi.”
“Hinata-Sama,
please!” The servant who had been ordered to stay with the
Hyuuga heiresses looked panicked.
“I-I
will fight you!” Hanabi rose and held up her hands.
“Do
it. I will kill you!” Hinata stood and took stance.
“You
don't have it in you.” Hanabi glared. Byakugan.
“You
don't know me Hanabi.” Byakugan.
“You're
not strong enough!” Hanabi stepped to the side, feeling her
socked foot catch on her formal Kimono.
“Oh
where is Saiyuri when I need her!” The young maid whined.
“Please, stop it.”
“You
spent too much time listening to that weak man.” Hinata
vanished from the younger Hyuuga's sight entirely before reappearing
a hand on Hanabi's throat and squeezed. “I killed her, don't
you know?” Hinata smiled that poisonous smile. One Hanabi had
never seen till that day three years ago. “I mean, why do you
think I was restored back as the heiress of the Hyuuga?”
Jyuuken!
Hanabi
struck her sister's chest, over her heart. The place that looked
weakest in her whole chakra map. Hinata didn't flinch as the old
wound tightened, but not closed.
“Weak
favorite to that weak man.” Hinata pushed her sister away
hitting the floor and her head. Hinata touched her chest, that place.
“This is why you're weak. I nearly died because of this place.”
She glared at her sister. “I was seconds within my own death
because of some high and mighty ass. But I'm still alive. This place
here, holds no power over me now.” Hinata knelt back at the
mirror and put on her jewelry.
“You
didn't kill her.” Hanabi said quietly.
“I
killed her.” Hinata stood and smiled sweetly. “Now come
here so I can put make up on that bruise around your neck.”
“Oh...
okay.” Hanabi lowered her eyes as Hinata went to work on that
hand print, then they were presentable. To their hosts. A petite
woman with a pig nose and thick, thick glasses. She had beautiful
black hair that was done in a lovely ornate style but her kimono
choice did nothing but emphasize the red in her skin making her
appeared like a roasted ham, which was suitable with that pig nose,
Hinata thought.
Her
son on the other hand fit the bill of a piglet one hundred percent.
He inherited his mother's pig nose, but not her metabolism it seemed.
His cheeks were round and his lips were thick and pudgy. His clothes
barely fit him pressing against his belly and fat arms. Hinata hated
to watch him eat. He detested vegetables and ate all the meat and the
greasiest foods on the table. The oil and rice stuck to his face and
dripped on his clothing and his pig faced mother would only dab his
face clean for him to mess up all over again.
“So,
Hyuuga-San, the time comes to discuss the potential engagement.”
The woman spoke.
“So
it has.” Hinata sat smiling politely.
“And
to be frank dear, I disapprove.” She said. “You are just
not in my son's league!”
“O-of
course.” Hinata kept her smile in place. “I see.”
“My
son is such a handsome boy.” She pet his head. Dinner was
already finished and the boy was eating his cake. “And with
those features of yours... Well I wouldn't want my grandchildren to
come out looking like monsters.”
“My
Features?” Hinata looked at the woman, the smile now gone and
she was now gritting her teeth. “Monster?”
“Oh!
No. I didn't mean it like that!” The woman adjusted her
glasses. “I mean your features wouldn't match. Can you imagine
my son's lovely nose with those eyes? The child would look
possessed!”
“Of
course. Who would want a possessed boar for a child.”
“A
boar?!”
“Oh
my!” Hinata touched her lips. “Sorry, it has the ability
to speak the truth when I don't want it to!”
“You
rude wench!”
“You're
the rude one. Insulting the Hyuuga.”
“I-I-I
d-d-did no-”
“You
dare compare the Hyuuga eyes with that animal nose?” Hinata
rose and looked down at the woman gritting her teeth. “Ugh!
Let's go Hanabi before I say something rude.”
“I
think you already have.” Hanabi rose and left with her sister.
