Reckless Hearts
Chapter Two
When Naruto woke up a few hours later, Iruka was sitting at his desk, holding his fake ID in one hand and his shirt in the other, which incidentally smelled like beer and sex. He should’ve been worried about getting grounded or something, but the minute he woke up, his mind was elsewhere.
Iruka put the shirt back on the floor, taking the scissors on Naruto’s desk and cutting the fake ID into small pieces. As they fell onto the ground, Naruto finally reacted, and loudly. He needed that ID.
“I needed that!” Naruto moaned, falling back onto the bed and covering his face with his hands. That ID was his only ticket to seeing Sasuke again. There was no way he was going to get himself caught by inviting the older man over. Iruka would’ve hung him up on the balcony for that.
Iruka opened his mouth to no doubt start yelling, but he was interrupted by a shrill ringing coming from the pile of dirty clothes on Naruto’s floor. The blonde squeaked as he dove for the phone, landing face first off of his bed. In his mad scramble to find his phone, Iruka found it first and hit the ignore button.
“We need to talk about this behavior of yours.” The man said in a low voice, putting Naruto’s phone into the front pocket of his jeans, motioning the blonde to sit on his bed. “Where were you last night, Naruto? I came in here at one in the morning and you were gone.”
“I was out.” Naruto mumbled, crawling back under his blankets and putting his pillow over his head. Iruka growled under his breath before he pulled the blanket off and tossed it onto the floor. The blonde stayed where he was, clutching his pillow to his chest. Iruka yanked that away, too.
“I’m at my limit here, Naruto. We took you in almost a year ago, and we adore you. We work hard to put a roof over your head. The least you could do is be grateful, not sneak out every other night to do Lord knows what.” Iruka ended his tirade, breathing heavily through his nose as he sat back down at the blonde’s desk. “I am really trying here, and you won’t give me a chance. We can’t build a relationship on false trust.”
Naruto shook his head, sick of hearing the older man complain. Kakashi and Iruka were good people, but he just didn’t fit into their family unit. He practically grew up in an orphanage. There was no love in that hell hole, and no way to survive unless you fought and won against the older boys.
That’s why so many of the orphans there went years before anyone gave them a second look. Couples these days wanted the younger kids, not some teenager.
“I’ll let you off, but that’s only because Kakashi’s having company over and I want you to be nice.” Iruka sighed, handing the blonde his stuff back before heading to the door and out into the hallway. Naruto flipped his phone open, checking the missed calls for an unfamiliar number. The only number even there was Kiba’s, and he didn’t feel like calling the brunette back.
Naruto pulled himself out of bed, dragging on a pair of jeans and shoving his phone into his front pocket. He chose to forgo a shirt for now, leaving the room and heading down the stairs to the kitchen. Kakashi was eating cereal at the table, his one eye skimming over articles in the local paper. Iruka was cooking something on the stove, and it smelled like bacon and eggs. It was making his stomach growl.
He took a seat at the table, closing his eyes and waiting for Iruka to move so he could make his ramen.
“Did you have fun last night?” Kakashi abruptly asked, peering over the edge of his paper at his foster son with a smirk stretching one side of his mouth.
Naruto liked Kakashi so much more than Iruka. The silver haired man was more lenient.
He found himself leaning forward, a wicked smirk curving his lips.
“I’d tell you, but then I’d really be in trouble.” The blonde sighed and sat back, closing his eyes again to replay his short time with Sasuke. It had been an interesting night, to say the least. But it was the best time he’d ever had. “So, about this guy coming tonight? Can I hang out with Kiba instead?”
Kakashi pursed his lips, tilting his head sideways to glance up at Iruka. The scarred man sighed and nodded, albeit reluctantly. Naruto whooped and pulled out his phone, sending a warning text to Kiba that he would be coming over later that night. He was surprised a second later, when the phone rang, and it wasn’t a number he recognized.
“Hello?” He said, finally getting up to make his ramen, almost dropping his phone when a familiar, smooth voice came over the line, saying a soft ‘hey’ before going silent. “Oh, um, hey. I wasn’t expecting your call. We only just met last night, and I assumed you wouldn’t be calling.”
“Hn. I just wanted to make sure you weren’t too sore from last night. I know how that feels.” Sasuke said softly.
Naruto smirked, even though he knew Sasuke couldn’t see it.
“Thanks for the concern, but I have thicker skin than that. It’s just a slight limp.”
“That’s good news, but that’s not the only thing I called about. Can I see you tomorrow?”
“I’ll let you know, okay? I’ll call or text.”
“Sounds good.”
“Mmmhmm.”
“All right. See you, Naruto.”
“Bye, Sasuke.” Naruto grinned, hitting the end button then shoving his phone back into his pocket.
“This Sasuke,” Kakashi started, folding his paper and putting it on the table, “his name doesn’t happen to be Uchiha by any chance, does it?”
Naruto raised an eyebrow, “I think so. Why? The blonde felt his stomach drop, mouth going dry. Now he remembered where he heard that name. Uchiha Sasuke was one of Kakashi’s old high school students. The silver haired man kept in touch with him constantly, and Naruto wondered if the bastard had already known who he was.
“Where exactly did you meet Sasuke?” Kakashi asked another question, eye glinting dangerously under his bangs. Naruto was suddenly very nervous. “Sasuke is twenty-three, Naruto. Where and when did you meet him?”
“Last night, at the bar. He kept me company after Kiba ditched me.” The blonde shrugged nonchalantly, filling his pan with water so he could avoid Kakashi’s suspicious gaze. Iruka ignored the conversation, anxiety already coloring his face purple. “We just sat and talked until Kiba was ready to leave.”
“Then why did your clothes smell like beer and sex?” Iruka blurted out, immediately slapping his hand over his mouth. Kakashi narrowed his eye and his lips thinned out.
“Go to Kiba’s while you still can, Naruto, because you’ll be sorry if Sasuke tells a different story.” The silver haired man got up from the table, forgetting to finish his breakfast as he walked out of the kitchen. Naruto swallowed audibly, wondering what Kakashi would do when he found out the truth. It couldn’t be that bad if the man was so laid back.
Naruto went about making his ramen, nervously awaiting the night.
*~*
“Kiba, I am so fucked.” Naruto moaned, as soon as the brunette opened his apartment door. Kiba raised an eyebrow as he closed the door, watching Naruto pace a hole in his floor. “You have no idea what I did, man. Not only did I have amazing sex with an older man, but he’s Kakashi’s old student! Do you know how over my life is?!”
The dog lover blanched, trying to get pass the fact that his best friend slept with an older man. It made him wonder if Naruto had slept with Hinata’s jackass raven friend.
It also gave him unwanted mental images.
“You dumbass! You could get that guy arrested!’
“I know that, Kiba! It’s not my fault he’s a good kisser or that his dick is my favorite thing in the world right now. I know all of that! I know he could get into trouble.”
Kiba turned red, scratching his chin in confused amusement. Naruto had just gone off of on a tangent, and nothing he said had made any sense. The blonde talked fast when he was nervous.
“Calm down, shit-for-brains. No one’s gonna find out.” The brunette sighed, guiding his best friend to the couch and making him sit down.
“Sasuke is actually coming to the house! He’ll see the pictures on the table and ask. I’m screwed, asshole!” Naruto dropped his head into his hands, tangling his fingers in his hair and pulling. Kiba started to laugh, wiping away the tears forming in his eyes. He kept laughing until Naruto punched him in the jaw as he got up, going over to the television to hook up Kiba’s Xbox and pop in a violent and bloody game.
“You really are fucked, aren’t you?” Kiba frowned, rubbing his sore jaw and joining his friend on the couch. Naruto silently glared at the television screen, his reflection garbled from the game’s graphics. Kiba shook his head and grabbed a controller, gearing up to get his ass whooped.
*~*
When the message came, it angrily read: ‘Get your ass home. Now.’
It was safe to say Iruka hadn’t sent it.
With a short goodbye to Kiba, he made his way home, dreading the conversation to come.
*~*
When he got home, Kakashi and Iruka were sitting on one of the couches, while a familiar dark haired man sat on the other one. They turned to look at him as he shut the door behind him, both of his foster parents looking angry, Sasuke a little mix of that and humiliation.
“Sasuke-kun, this is my foster son, Naruto.” Kakashi said dangerously, getting up from the couch to seize the blonde by the collar of his jacket and forcing him to sit next to the raven. “Well, Naruto, Sasuke told me a different story. Now you have to tell him why the hell you tricked him into having sex with you.”
Naruto snorted as he turned his head away, refusing to obey Kakashi’s demand. He knew he didn’t have to say anything he didn’t want to. Amendment rights and all.
“Please tell me you didn’t just turn sixteen.” Sasuke sighed, turning to him with pleading eyes that Naruto found he couldn’t ignore.
“I didn’t just turn sixteen.” Naruto mumbled, flinching when Sasuke growled at him and got up from the couch, pacing around the living room muttering to himself. “I’m sorry, Sasuke. I never meant for last night to happen, especially with you. And you were the one that called me out on my height.”
“You don’t get to talk, Naruto. Go up to your room and stay there until I come up to talk to you.” Kakashi said coldly, Sasuke snorting at the command. Naruto glared at the three men as he went up the stairs, regretting last night and even coming home after Kakashi’s text.
He slammed his bedroom door for good measure.
*~*
Kakashi came up to his room two hours later, startling him out of his sleep as he started to pile things in a large, black trash bag. His stereo went first, followed by all of his CDs, video games, and his comic books. His PS3, Wii, and XBox360 were also tossed into the bag, and so was the box for his digital cable.
“You’re grounded for the next year for that stunt, Naruto. I can’t believe you would scar Sasuke like that for the rest of his life.” Kakashi took his cell phone from the table next to Naruto’s bed, shoved it into his pocket and left the room as loudly as he’d come in. Iruka didn’t say anything as he shut the door, his face saying everything he refused to say out loud.
Well, shit.
*~*
A few weeks later found Naruto back in school from winter vacation, lamenting his tale to Kiba and another of his closest friends, Sakura.
“Kakashi took all of your stuff?” Kiba laughed, slapping Naruto on the back as the three of them started to walk out of their High school. Sakura didn’t believe him when he told her he’d sex with a twenty-three year old guy. Even the marks on his neck weren’t proof enough. “Man, and you’re grounded for a year? That means you can’t come to see Avatar with me!”
“Shut up, Kiba.” Naruto sighed, rubbing his hand over his face. He felt horrible about the whole thing, just because he had really liked Sasuke, even with the asshole attitude.
“I still don’t believe you slept with a man like that.” Sakura rolled her eyes skyward, sighing at her friend’s stupidity.
“Well, believe it, Haruno, ‘cause I think that’s him.” Kiba snickered, pointing in the direction of the parking lot, where a tall, dark haired man was leaning against an even darker car.
“Holy shit, he’s here to kill me.” Naruto moaned, ducking being his two fiends so Sasuke wouldn’t see him. Unfortunately, the older man started walking towards them, tucking his hands into the pockets of his navy blue coat. “Please protect me!” The blonde whispered furiously.
“Dobe.” Sasuke said softly, motioning the teen to get out from behind his two friends. Naruto did so reluctantly, and was surprised when Sasuke grabbed him by his coat and pulled him into an angry kiss, then pulled away to glare at him. “You little shit, I should beat your face in for that stunt you pulled on me.”
“I’m sorry! Please don’t kill me!” Naruto whimpered.
Kiba started to laugh, and soon so did Sakura. Loudly.
Sasuke’s face softened and he leaned down again, this time licking Naruto’s bottom lip.
“Can we go somewhere and talk?” The raven asked, glaring at the idiot’s two friends behind them. “I’ll give you a ride home if you want.”
Slowly, Naruto nodded and let Sasuke pull him way from his only safety and into his car.
But he didn’t mind.
