Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: I’m glad the story is being enjoyed so far. I can’t stop writing right now. Mostly plot in this chapter, but Naruto and Sasuke do kind of get together. I’ve got a lot of chapters written, but I don’t know if I’ll update more than adding this second chapter today. I’m glad that people are taking the time to review. Reviews make me smile. I also write a little more when people respond… *hint, hint*
Without further ado, chapter two. (Wow, I’m a poet and I didn’t even recognize it… anyone else ever use that horrible joke?)
I was so glad I had the sense to purchase that Explorer now, rather than the convertible. Originally I thought the Thunderbird would have been the cooler purchase, but somehow my sensible mother had talked me in the Explorer. Granted, the vehicle was equipped with top of the line everything, but at least now I had room in it for my guests as I headed back to my house. My parents purchased a small two bedroom, one bath house for me with a finished basement. They paid all the taxes, mortgage, and utilities. I really only had the chore of making sure that the house was cleaned and the yard taken care of.
My latest art project was currently all over my living room. Being an art major meant that my school work often came home with me, when it could. Right now I had large black and white prints hanging from random spots and taking up the furniture. I turned to look at the man sitting next to me in the front seat and I had to force the blush to stay off my face. Naruto was quietly sipping a smoothie while watching the small, quiet neighborhoods fly by on the way to my place. So far the band had been doing all the talking while I listened politely. “I should really warn you about my place though,” I said offhandedly. “I’m an art major and my current project is all over my living room.”
“No big,” Kiba answered from the back seat. His triangle tattoos on his face seemed to dance as he talked and laughed. “Naru was an art major before the band took off. We’re used to your kind.” I glanced in the rear view mirror just in time to see the look Kiba sent to Naruto. If I read it right, and I was rarely wrong, he was encouraging Naruto to talk to me.
Naruto smiled at me and I couldn’t help but smile back. It was infectious. Naruto scratched his head before he asked, “So where is this place you’re taking us tonight?”
I smiled. Small talk with Naruto was like heaven for me. “It’s on the other side of town, which isn’t all that far. I just wanted to grab a few things from my place before we go. I promised my friend Shikamaru that I’d bring him the print I made of him for my last project.”
Naruto nodded. “So, what’s the project laying all over your living space?” He smiled. I don’t know how to describe it. He seemed to radiate pure happiness when he smiled. His eyes sparkled. I forced my eyes back to the road and concentrated on the drive.
I thought for a moment the best way to say what I had been working on. Now that I thought about it, it was a little embarrassing, though Uchihas don’t do embarrassed. I shrugged, putting on a very forced stoic face. “It’s a tribute to my favorite bands. Mostly black and white prints that I’ve taken, but some that are sketched and colored off of other photos.”
Naruto went back to watching the town. “Don’t you get bored here? I get bored in LA, and this place is like smaller than most of the suburbs there. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it probably is a nice town, but god I’m going to go insane if we have to stay more than a day or two.”
I scowled. “Sorry I’m so boring and a waste of your time.” I wasn’t really hurt and I understood perfectly, but what an incredibly rude thing to say to someone who was trying to play the good host.
Naruto’s eyes showed the apology before his words were even out. The man was way too easy to read. “Oh my god, no! I didn’t mean it like that. I really didn’t. I mean, this town sucks, but I mean. Oh shit!” Naruto dropped his head into his hands and took a deep breath. “I meant, this town sucks, but I’m glad that there’s someone who knows who we are.”
I sighed. I would never have really been mad at the man who made me giddy inside. I never got giddy inside. “It’s fine. You can come in if you want, or you can wait. I’ll only be about 2 minutes,” I said as I put the SUV in park and opened my door.
Naruto looked at the band, some conversation of looks seemed to occur before Naruto said, “We’ll wait. See you soon.”
I hopped inside and grabbed the print I need of Shikamaru before I opened my cell. “Shika,” I said after he answered, “I’m bringing some famous people with me. Any chance you can get Asuma to get us the back room?”
I waited, wanting to have a semi-private space to sit around with my friends in. We usually took secluded areas, none of us being extremely sociable people, but I really didn’t want to take the chance someone else recognized the band and wouldn’t give them peace. I smirked when I heard the ‘all ready taken care of’ on the other end of the line.
I opened the back and tossed the poster sized print in, carefully, before climbing back into the driver’s seat. I looked at the still silent Ten-Ten. I hadn’t really been able to find anything about her online, not that I was looking of course. I wasn’t obsessed. “So, where were you guys headed that you were cutting through anywhere in North Dakota?”
Ten-Ten spoke up, finally. “Minneapolis?” She seemed to be asking if I knew where that was.
I almost wanted to laugh. Normally I spent long weekends bouncing between my friends down in the city. I more or less lived in downtown when I could. I just liked having my little community and my small group of friends. I liked being the only one who knew bands from big cities. Of course, I was the only one who had traveled out of the country and did so on a regular basis. The family was always a little embarrassed by my appearance, but I was one of the heirs to the fortune.
Dad may have been mayor and have royal blood, but he also had created one of the world’s most famous restaurants. The money he made world over was enough that none of his family would ever need to work again. The biggest problem was that none of them were just capable of doing nothing. I smiled. “I go there a lot. You playing 1st Ave?”
Naruto nodded. “We’ve never been there before. Is it a nice club? I don’t know how we’ll make it now. It’s not for two days, but we were going to explore a new town. Now I don’t know if we’ll have the parts before then. I don’t understand who doesn’t keep some kind of bus parts on stock.”
I couldn’t help it. I wanted to give him another scathing look, but he said it so innocently I had to laugh. It was like he thought we always had busses coming through and breaking down here. “Yeah, well, it’s not like we get that many people coming through here. Usually if someone does stop, it’s just for gas and a piss.”
The drive across town only took 8 minutes, and that was because we happened to hit the two stop lights in town while they were red. We pulled up in front of the Caffeine Tsunami and I killed the engine. “I’m not sure anyone will recognize you other my friends. I made all of them listen to your music once I heard it.”
Hinata smiled. “That’s fine by me.” All of us piled out of the vehicle and I waved at Asuma as I opened the door. “I’ll be back to pick up, but mango smoothies for everyone.”
Asuma nodded as I headed to the back room. “How did you know I love mango smoothies?” Naruto gasped.
I shook my head and gave him the ‘are you an idiot’ look that I had perfected so many years ago. “It’s always the first drink here. It’s tradition amongst my friends.” I lead the way to the back room. I pushed the door open and was greeted by the site of Shikamaru and his boyfriend Neji making out. Temari was sitting to the side talking to Shino, trying to ignore them as much as possible. I noticed that Temari’s siblings were with, which only meant she hadn’t found a way to ditch them.
I pointed toward the couches and coughed once to get Neji and Shikamaru’s attention. “No sucking face for just a few seconds,” I sighed. “This is Naruto, Hinata, Ten-Ten, and Kiba. Play nice.” I set Shikamaru’s portrait down by the couch and nodded toward Gaara and Kankuro. I didn’t see them often, as Temari tried to ditch them as often as possible, but I knew they were very into creeping people out. “I meant you two,” I pointed my finger at the pair.
I went to pick up our order. “Hey, Asuma,” I said nonchalantly as I went to collect our drinks.
“New boyfriend?” He smirked at the look on my face. “Don’t worry. Your secret is safe with me. It was just painfully obvious to me the first time when you and Shikamaru hooked up. I know he’s with Neji now, so I figured maybe that good looking blond was your new arm candy.”
I sighed and cocked an eyebrow. “You really don’t get it. That’s my favorite band and somehow the Uchiha luck comes through and I wind up meeting them. They’re stuck in town waiting on a part for their bus.”
Asuma nodded. “Well, the room is yours all night. I think that Sai is planning on doing a showcase tonight sometime. I just thought I’d warn you.”
I groaned. Sai knew I was gay and never stopped trying to get my affection. He was worse than Sakura because he didn’t know how to take a hint, plus he really liked being physical. At least with Sakura I only had to give her the glare to get her to give me some space. I always had to physically pry Sai off my body and usually had to give a square kick to the groin to get my point across for the night. “Thanks,” I grabbed the drinks and went back to the room.
I smiled when I saw everyone behaving themselves. I brought everyone drinks before looking around for a place to sit. The only available place was, more or less, to wedge myself between Naruto and Hinata. There was technically space there, but that would be putting one more person on the couch than there was legitimate space for. My musing was stopped when Naruto reached up and yanked me, unceremoniously, into his lap. “What the fuck?” I shouted.
Naruto smirked at me. “You looked lost, and I thought you helped us so I should help you.” I swear I heard a lusty undertone in his voice and saw it in his eyes, but it was gone almost right away. He wrapped his arm around my waist though and pulled me close.
I closed my eyes, forcing my breath to slow and my body to stop reacting to the close quarters with a man I had an obvious thing for. When I knew I was okay, I managed to make myself comfortable on his lap, “Well, since you’re offering.”
The sounds of the open mic night drifted through the doors. A song that all of us knew was being played and we wanted to do our usual routine, but passed in order to get to know the band better. At least that was the plan until Naruto dumped me off his lap to investigate the source of the song. He started humming as he headed out the door. I followed, irritated that I had just gotten comfortable to be thrown aside. Hinata stood beside me as Naruto climbed onto the small stage and whispered to the performer. She nudged me slightly, “He really likes making people smile. It’s why he’s such a good front man.”
I nodded. He always seemed so full of life during interviews and videos. The few hours that I had known him in person he was always spirited. He seemed to be drawn to anything and everything. I recalled the interview where he was asked how they came up with the band name. Naruto had bounced as he told how everyone had to come up with one word, put it in a hat, and then the order the words came out in was what the name was. It had been his idea all the way, crazy and totally random. Naruto had taken up a guitar and started playing along with the performer. I realized it was one of my fan girls, Ino. I was popular and rich, but I don’t think any of them liked me for who I was.
The performance was nice, but I couldn’t help the stab of jealousy that went through my system as I saw Naruto kiss her cheek when he finished. He was opening the door to the back room when I grabbed his collar and dragged him out of the shop. I had no reason to be jealous and no way of knowing that my next action would be met with a positive reaction. I pushed Naruto into an alleyway and pressed his back to the brick of the building. I saw a twinkle in his eye and took it as the good ahead. I forced my lips to his, softly at first. When I felt the kiss being returned, I moaned softly. After a few minutes, my hands started slipping into Naruto’s shirt. He broke the kiss and grabbed my hands. “I’m sorry, Sasuke. I like you a lot. I do, but I’m not ready to go there.”
I nodded. At least I knew there was some physical attraction between us. “I want to get to know you. I don’t want you just because you’re in my favorite band, you know. So I’m fine with not going there. I don’t want you to feel used.”
Naruto smiled, his eyes twinkling again. “So, back inside?” He grabbed my hand and started leading me in. I saw Sai on the stage and stuck my tongue out. It wasn’t an Uchiha action, but it was necessary when I was obviously with someone who could kick Sai’s pansy ass.
Naruto leaned down and whispered, “Friend of yours?” He laughed as I gave him the ice-glare that stops most people dead in their tracks. “I’ll take that as a no.”
The night progressed without a problem. Sai left me alone knowing full well that I was with someone as more than a friend. Ino talked to us for a few minutes, but had to go out with her mysterious new, older, boyfriend. I was just glad she had taken the hint Sakura still couldn’t figure out.
It was 2 AM and the store was closing. I downed the last of my espresso. “Well, do you guys have a hotel or something?” Naruto shook his head. “You can stay at my place. I know it’s not huge, but if we need more space we can always go to my parents.”
Neji stared at me in disbelief. I never offered to go to my parents. I hated their money and I hated the mainstream boy they wanted me to be. My mom loved me the way I am, but my dad wanted me to be a businessman like he was. “You’ve got it bad for one of them. I can guess who.”
I sighed and playfully batted a hand at Neji. “Shut up. It’s just that there are only two bedrooms and a couch at my place. If they want to cram together we’ll stay there; if they want space we need to go to my folks.”
Naruto laughed. “We’re used to cramped quarters. Plus, it’s late and it’s rude to impose on old people when it’s late.”
I smiled. “I don’t give a damn about that. They’d make my life hell the next morning, but really it would almost be worth it.” I shrugged. “My place then.” I paid the tab to Asuma on the way out and headed back toward my car, seeing the band saying good night to my friends.
I waved and promised my friends I’d give them the details later. I never did, but I always promised. I yawned before I started the engine. I wasn’t really tired, but I had had way too much caffeine, which always induced yawns in me. I saw Naruto smirk and punched him lightly. “I’m not tired; it’s the caffeine.”
He just grinned before leaning over and whispering in my ear, “Sure it is.” I don’t know why he did it. Maybe he knew it would make me hornier than I had been previously, but I was suddenly very aroused and did my best not to show it as I backed out of my parking space. Somehow we made it to my house without any further incidents. I didn’t pay attention to the conversation happening around me as I willed my half-erection away.
I pulled into the garage before turning the vehicle off. “I’ve got blankets and pillows. Make yourselves at home,” I said as I pulled my shoes off and tossed them toward the mat by the front door. I went to the hall closet and pulled out some blankets and pillows. When I made it back to the living room, I saw that my artwork had been very carefully set aside. I assumed Naruto, being a fellow artist, must have been the one to do so. “Blankets.” I tossed the remote for the TV at Kiba. “Watch whatever you want or play games. I don’t care.” It was early Friday morning and I had class I had to get to. “I’m off to sleep. I’ll be gone by 8, but you can rummage around and find whatever you need. If you need a ride, you can take the Explorer. I’ll just walk to school.”
I waved good night as everyone settled in for the night. Well almost everyone. I was just about to my bedroom when a strong, tanned hand grabbed me from behind. “Boo.” Naruto whispered as he pressed me against my bedroom door. “I need a good night kiss.”
I smirked and turned the knob to my bedroom. The door opened and I caught Naruto as he tumbled forward. “You could stay in here tonight, you know.” I couldn’t help the haughty tone to my voice. I couldn’t help the superior look in my eyes. I always tried to stop those things, but they came out in me when I was hunting prey, and that was what Naruto had become in my mind.
Naruto laughed a bellowing laugh. “Nice try, Sasuke. Just a kiss and I’m gone. I’ll be like a ghost. You won’t know what happened and I’ll,” I pressed my lips against his. He was babbling. Who knew someone so eloquent in music could be such a vocal disaster in real life. I smirked as I heard him moan into my mouth. Our tongues were clashing for dominance, but Naruto’s somehow found its way to victory.
After a few minutes, I pulled away. “Seriously, though, I do have class and I need to sleep.” I gave him a little push out of the room and closed the door before slinking into my bed. I closed my eyes and drifted off to the first decent night’s sleep I had had in a long time. When I woke in the morning everyone still asleep. Hinata and Temari had made their way to the second bedroom. Naruto was sprawled out on the couch and Kiba had somehow fallen asleep with his head on Naruto’s lap and his feet on my coffee table. I chuckled a little at the sight and left a quick note telling them not to worry about the door when they left. Crime was basically nonexistent here. I usually left my door unlocked during the day.
I slipped my shoes on as quietly as I could and had just unlocked the door when I felt now familiar hands wrapping around my waist from behind. “Just wanted to say goodbye,” Naruto whispered as he kissed my cheek softly. He was still completely out of it and tired from the sound of his voice.
I nodded and turned a little to give him a small kiss on the lips. “Go back to bed. My number’s on the note I left, if you need anything.” Naruto nodded and made his way back to the couch. I could hear him snoring again before I even shut the door.
