Chapter
2: Finding
He had been
searching for three whole weeks and was quickly loosing his patience. There had
been rumours and more rumours, but no
sight of any of Orochimaru’s men and definitely no sign of Sasuke. He was
starting to think that maybe they had suddenly all just died. But that couldn’t
be true, because he didn’t die that
easily. That just wasn’t possible.
Finally he
reached Orochimaru’s old bunkers where they had seen Sasuke all those years
ago, his last clue. To his surprise the bunker was not abandoned, but inhabited
by Orochimaru’s fighters. The snake man and his pupil on the other hand were
nowhere to be seen even after days of observing.
Finally
Naruto made the bold decision of taking one of the men captive and interrogating
him. He snagged the first man who he saw coming out of the underground bunkers,
there was no reason to be picky about this. It didn’t take much to make the man
talk, actually he stated right away that he had nothing to hide and blabbed
everything out in a matter of minutes.
Sasuke had
killed Orochimaru. Most of his men had run off to join other little rebelling
ninja groups. Those who were left were now under Kabuto’s
orders. He was a very different, much more careful leader with less ambition
that his predecessor, so most of the ninjas who had stayed, were now having
very relaxed lives.
Sasuke had killed Orochimaru.
That had
happened almost a year ago. Afterwards he had left and there had been no word
of him. Orochimaru’s loyal servants didn’t try to follow him. If he was strong
enough to kill their leader, they could do nothing against him. They had kept
quiet after that.
The result:
All traces of him were lost.
Naruto let
the man go after he had told everything important. He sat behind a big rock
wall for hours, slumped against the cold stone and staring at the sky. What was
he going to do now? He had never expected something like this, though deep
inside he had to admit that he was happy for Sasuke. Now he didn’t have to
worry about Orochimaru trying to take over his body.
It took him
over a day to get enough energy to get moving again. In that time, none of Kabuto’s men came to look for him. He suspected his
kidnapping victim had never told their boss that Naruto was outside their
hidden bunker, it would just bring trouble into their quiet life.
He left,
not knowing where he was going, but following his instinct that desperately
told him that he was on the right track and should just go on. He was slightly
afraid it was actually Kyuubi who was whispering into his ear, but shut out
that thought soon, he knew he was stronger than the demon who
was trapped inside his body.
Time went
by quickly as landscapes changed and the spring started to wake the nature up.
He had been in countless little villages, showing Sasuke’s
old photo and drawing the Uchiha symbol for everyone who might have seen the
young travelling ninja. There were always a few people who remembered the black
haired handsome man. He learned that it was useful to ask young girls who were
selling food; they saw the most travellers and remembered Sasuke the best.
That is how
he travelled ahead for a long time, asking around and sleeping in random places
when he could.
His clothes
were beginning to look worn and soon he had to buy new ones. He chose unnoticeable
clothes that would last better and feel more comfortable in the warming spring
weather. He had only a few important items with him and even most of those he
lost during his long trip. His money was already halfway gone and his spirit
lowering again despite the beautiful weather and new, beautiful landscapes all
around. Still no sign of Sasuke.
~*~*~
One late
night he dragged himself into a village and was just about to start searching
for a late night open food stand to once again ask eyewitnesses for Sasuke,
when he saw a man walk away from the marketplace.
He had
black, shiny hair that was standing up just a tiny bit from the back. The man
was wearing a loose, black yakata that was fastened with a red obi. What caught
Naruto’s eye was the tiny Uchiha symbol on the yakata’s right sleeve.
Without a
second of hesitation he started running towards the man. “Sasuke!”
The man
stopped, his neck visibly tensing by the shout. Neither of them moved. Naruto
was standing just a few feet away from him and breathed heavily from
excitement, but at the same time he was pale with worry that this was someone
else, some impersonator. Could it really be him?
~*~*~
Sasuke
couldn’t breath. He knew that voice. It was a voice from his long lost past, a
voice he thought he would never hear again. It had changed more manly, more
adult one, but he could still recognize it, he would have recognized it
anywhere. Naruto.
Slowly he
closed his eyes and breathed deeply, turning around to face his former best
friend. He opened his eyes to look at him, seeing blue eyes, blue as the sky,
and so innocent. The whisker marks were still there on his cheeks and the
blond, unruly, tousled hair was as bright as ever. He wanted to reach out, but
stood still like he had turned into stone. His face revealed nothing of the torrent
of emotions in his mind.
Naruto
stepped closer to him and as Sasuke made no move, he moved closer still. “Sasuke. I found you.” He whispered with an emotion filled,
ragged voice. He reached his hand towards Sasuke’s
face but was instantly pushed away. Then the younger Uchiha was on him, trying
to hit him with such quick movements that he couldn’t see them properly.
He stepped
back, careful not to harm Sasuke as he slapped away every attack easily.
“Sasuke, Stop it!” He finally yelled as the black eyed man just kept throwing
the useless bunches at him. He wasn’t even trying to hurt him and there was no
emotion on his face, no recognition.
Sasuke
suddenly stopped and lowered his hands.
“Don’t
touch me.” He said coldly, standing put in front of Naruto. Finally the blond
noticed that he had to look slightly down as he searched for Sasuke’s eyes under the thick black bangs.
“I’m
sorry.” He said back, staring at the mans pale face.
It hurt to see him so emotionless and being unable to touch him. He wanted so
badly to hug the man and say how much he had missed him.
Sasuke
looked up, tossing his head to the side. “Follow me.” he only said, then
he was already walking away, his back turned to Naruto. He didn’t even make sure
he would follow, but of course he did.
Sasuke
couldn’t watch Naruto. It took all his self restraint not to reach for his
cheek and touch him. He pushed away his feelings as he heard Naruto running
after him and following him quietly into his house across the village.
~*~*~
Soon they
arrived to a prominent bath house that had several small buildings surrounding
a large hot spring area. The whole complex was enclosed with a tall fence. The
only thing telling that it was a bath house was the steam rising over the fence
and the big bath house sign on the wall.
Naruto
stared at Sasuke with wide open mouth as the pale man walked in from the bath
house door.
“Why are we
going in there?” He asked nervously and made Sasuke finally stop. It took a
while before the black haired man turned to face him, but finally he did,
staring back at the blond with his cold, black eyes.
“This is my
house.”
“You live
in a bath house? Wow, how freaky is that!” Naruto yelled surprised and Sasuke’s eyebrow twitched. The blond could still be too
loud for his ears.
“I have to
make a living.” He stated, finally stepping in and taking off his shoes. Naruto
followed close behind, kicking off his sandals and tossing his backpack into
the corner. “You’re rick, why do you have to earn a living
here? You could just pick your money from Konoha if you needed it, you know,
there’s plenty of it there…” the blonds voice faded away as he got no reply or
even a sign that the other man was listening to his babbling.
Sasuke had
gotten rid of his shoes and was walking towards what looked like a kitchen.
Naruto followed him, leaving his few possessions to the hall.
In the
kitchen, Sasuke walked to the fridge, opened it and took out some juice,
putting two cups on the table and sat down on the floor, nodding his head to
Naruto.
“Sit.”
“I’m not a
dog.” Naruto huffed, but sat nonetheless. Sasuke stared at him. He was still
dizzy by the fact that the blond was really here and couldn’t answer with his
old, cool fashion. Naruto started to stare back, but soon his eyes drifted
towards the juice.
“Can I
drink that?” He asked nervously, eyeing the bottle. Sasuke nodded and pushed
the juice bottle closer to Naruto. The blond attacked it hungrily.
“Maaan, I’m so thirsty. You have no idea how hot it gets on
the road and I’ve had little to drink, it’s too much to carry bottles of water
with me.” He talked, pouring himself a class, drinking it with one gulp and
pouring another one.
Sasuke kept
staring at his drinking marathon for a few more seconds, then leaned on his
hands, seemingly relaxing.
“Where did
you loose your forehead protector? Are you a missing nin?”
“NO! I took
a short leave and told everyone that I was going. Nobody is missing me.”
“Good. Then
why are you here and how did you find me?”
“You
weren’t easy to find, I had to run after you for months!” Naruto stated loudly, drinking the rest of the juice and
putting down the bottle and his class. Then he looked into Sasuke’s
serious eyes and hunched.
“I need
your help with something. It’s a long story. Well not really. But I know where
Itachi is.”
It took a
while for Sasuke to register everything he had said, but when he heard Itachi’s name, his eyes narrowed.
“You know
where Itachi is?” He said with a cold voice, leaning towards the table. Naruto
scratched his neck. “Well, not really. I will have to find him though, because
he kidnapped Sakura. So I need your help.”
Sasuke
frowned. “You need my help finding him? Don’t you think I would have already
killed him if I knew where he was?” he passed the mention of Sakura completely.
“No, I’m
pretty sure I can easily find him. I can sort of… sense people. But I can’t
beat him alone. So will you help me?”
“Why should
I help you?” Sasuke asked as he stood up and looked down at Naruto.
“Because
you could finally kill Itachi in the process and get that fucking revenge stuff
out of the way.” Naruto answered, sounding slightly pissed.
Sasuke
stared at him, his eyes burning with anger, but he said nothing. He walked to
the water faucet and poured some water to a pitcher, setting it on the table.
“You drank
all the juice.”
He sat back
down as Naruto blinked, looking at the water. The room fell quiet and both of
the men tried to avoid looking at each other. Finally Sasuke shuffled on his
seat.
“It’s
getting late.” He said quietly, eyeing Naruto under his long bangs. His hair
had grown long and was now reaching his chest. Naruto realized that Sasuke
hadn’t really changed that much. Of course he had grown and turned manlier, but
he was still boyish and cute. He sniggered at his own thoughts as he imagined
Sasuke hearing them.
Sasuke
frowned as the blond suddenly started to giggle to himself. He took the water
pitcher, since it didn’t seem to interest Naruto anymore and poured the water
off.
“I’m going
to sleep now.” He stated, looking at the blond, waiting for an answer. He
couldn’t just leave him into the kitchen.
“I’m really
tired too. I ran for three days non-stop to get here from the last village and
it was sunny and hot all the way. I can’t wait to get to sleep.” The blond
babbled as he stood up and stepped into the hall, grabbing his backpack.
“Where can
I sleep?”
“This isn’t
a hotel.”
“There are
no guestrooms?”
“No. I have
my small room next to the bath halls.”
“Well I
guess it can’t be helped then. I’ll sleep with you.”
“Wh-what?”
Sasuke’s eye twitched.
“In your room. I don’t want to sleep in the kitchen or the bath rooms if the guests
can use those freely.”
“Why don’t
you find a hotel?”
“Aww come on, it’s the middle of the night and I’m really
tired. Do you have an extra futon?”
Sasuke
shook his head angrily. “No.”
“Then I
guess I can manage with a few towels and stuff.” Naruto huffed and wobbled
sleepily into the big wash room where the washed towels and bath robes were
kept to dry. Sasuke sighed with relief as the blond was out of sight and walked
into his room, not waiting for Naruto to find him. He started searching for his
night clothes. At least he hadn’t suggested that they would share the bed.
Soon Naruto
walked into the room with an armful of towels and soft bath robes and tossed
them on the floor. Sasuke handed him a pillow from his bed and Naruto accepted
it, grinning widely.
“Thanks.”
Sasuke
didn’t reply as he buried himself under thick blankets on the bed. He wanted to
sleep, but it was impossible to ignore the loud blond moving in his room. He
hadn’t had anyone sleep in his room for… never.
He turned
his face to the wall and shut his eyes, hoping the blond would quiet down soon.
This was already making his mind race into things he didn’t want to think about
and Naruto tossing and moving and shuffling and huffing didn’t help him
ignoring him one bit.
Suddenly
the room fell completely silent. Soon he was so on the edge that he wanted to
turn around and make sure the blond hadn’t left. He was so shocked about his
sudden arrival that he still didn’t know how he should take it and what he
should too. To his own shock, his mind was filled with questions about Naruto,
not about the fact that he would finally get to fulfil his revenge on Itachi.
He was so
tense his neck started to hurt and finally he decided to turn around, glancing
carefully to the floor where he found Naruto laying uncomfortably on his back,
staring at the ceiling. He should have invited him into his bed. Regardless of
the few towels, the floor must be really hard. Then again, if the blond had
been travelling for months, he must have slept in more uncomfortable places
than this… and he was stinking!
Naruto had
been searching for him for months.
And now he was here. Really here, with him, in his room, breathing and falling
asleep. It felt too unreal to be true. Maybe it wasn’t really Naruto, maybe it
was an assassin sent to kill him. He froze and listened to Naruto’s
soft breathing.
“You know,
bastard…” Naruto mumbled dreamily, hugging and sniffing his pillow. It smelled
like Sasuke, he sniffed it more.
“What?”
Sasuke snapped back, surprised to hear the blonds voice.
“I really
*yawn* I really missed you.” Naruto whispered, rolling onto his side, breathing
heavily into the pillow.
Sasuke
stared at him in the darkness. His heart was racing. No, this was no assassin.
It couldn’t be, it was the real thing and he wasn’t dreaming.
“I missed
you too, you’ll never know how much.” He whispered back, so softly that his
whisper couldn’t carry into Naruto’s ears. The blond
smiled, his eyes still closed.
“I know
Sasuke. I know.” He mumbled sleepily, turning his back on Sasuke, whose eyes
were wide with shock and embarrassment.
~*~*~
Naruto woke
up before Sasuke, getting up and folding the sheets and bath robes tidily into
a pile, stacking them to a corner next to his backpack. He stood up, opened the
door and stepped into the hallway, stretching his back. It was really sore
after the night on the hard floor, but he wasn’t complaining. He was about to
close the door to the bedroom when he glanced in and saw Sasuke sleeping there
peacefully.
He was
looking so beautiful that Naruto had to smile. He leaned his head to the
doorframe and stared at the pale man. He had never seen him look so vulnerable.
It seemed that all the bad things that had happened to him in the past, had left no permanent scars on the man. He was happy,
though he felt a little sting of anger about the fact that Sasuke had left such
deep scars in him that he could never forget them and there he was, looking so
peaceful and innocent, like nothing could ever bother him.
Suddenly
Sasuke moaned and tossed his head. He looked like he was in pain and let out
another suffocated sound. He was gripping the sheets with his fingers and
curling into a little ball on the bed. Naruto frowned and opened the door wide,
stepping in. It seemed Sasuke was not completely freed from his nightmares.
The pale
man turned quickly, tossing around and pushing his sheets away. His blanket
dropped to the floor and he let out a strangled moan. He was wearing long,
black sweatpants, but no shirt. His muscled twitched as he moved. He was soon
on his stomach and buried his face against the pillow, letting out a suffocated
sob. Naruto kneeled next to him and was just about to shake him as he noticed;
the cursed seal was gone.
His eyes
widened and his hand dropped down. Of course, Orochimaru was dead.
Sasuke
whimpered, his hands curling around his head, obviously trying to hide from
something. Naruto snapped from his thoughts and shook his back softly. He
noticed that his skin was covered with cold sweat.
Suddenly Sasuke
jumped up and reached for Naruto, pushing him down to the floor and jumping on
him. Soon he was straddling the blond, his hands locked on his neck.
“Woah, Sasuke! It’s me. You were having a bad dream so I
woke you up.” Naruto croaked under the strong hold. The black eyes focused and
he let go of his neck.
“Are you
okay?” Naruto asked worriedly, putting his hands on Sasuke’s
thighs, which were tightly on both sides of him. Sasuke flinched and jumped up.
“Yeah.
Sorry.” He whispered, stroking his messy hair into some sort of order. His eyes
were slightly wide and he looked shaken up. Naruto sat up.
“Just…
don’t touch me.” Sasuke said, turning his back to him. Naruto frowned, but
stayed still as Sasuke pulled on his yakata and walked out of the room, nodding
for him to follow.
~*~*~
The
breakfast was quiet, they sat on both sides of the table, staring at their
breakfast cups and eating without a word. The few employees in the room with
them were throwing curious glances at the men. One young lady threw longing
gazes at Sasuke.
Where ever
Sasuke went, he had to have his fanclub. Naruto
snorted and Sasuke finally lifted his face to look at him. He stared at the
blond for a long moment as he munched his ramen.
“Okay.”
Naruto
lifted his head surprised. “Okay what?”
“I’ll come
with you.”
“You will?”
Naruto’s eyebrows shot up and he grinned. Sasuke
nodded, standing up. Naruto threw his hands to the air. “Yush!”
Sasuke’s
eyebrow twitched, but he ignored the blond, walking to return his cup to the
counter.
Naruto ran
after him, throwing his cup hastily after Sasuke’s, then he was jumping in front of Sasuke.
“When are
we leaving?”
“Not yet”
“Why not?
We should leave as soon as we can.” Naruto pouted. Sasuke sighed.
“I have
things to take care of before I can leave.”
“What,
you’ve turned into a business man?”
“Yes.”
Sasuke smirked coldly over his shoulder and Naruto burst into laughter. “That
suits you.”
As they
left the kitchen, neither of them noticed that the room had fallen quiet.
Everyone was staring after them with shocked eyes. The owner had never smiled like that and had never let anyone talk to him so rudely.
They were in complete shock.
~*~*~
“Come on
Sasuke. You have a bath house. It might be weeks before we get to clean
ourselves properly once we hit the road, so let’s use this last opportunity.”
Sasuke
glared at him. They were sitting outside on a porch in the sunlight. The blond
had said Sasuke needed a tan, he had not agreed but somehow he still found
himself sitting here.
“You use
it. I took a bath last night.”
“Keep me
company then.”
“You still
can’t swim?” He asked seriously and Naruto made a face at him. “Yeah, I need
your help!” He yelled, flapping his hands around like a lunatic. Sasuke stared
at him for a while, blinking several times before sniggering lightly into his
hand. Gods he had missed the dope and his stupid way to make him laugh against
his will. Naruto grinned and pointed at the door of the baths.
“I’ll go
get my change of clothes. You get the towels?”
Sasuke
shook his head but got up.
~*~*~
Naruto was
already in the water when Sasuke got himself ready. Finally the pale man walked
to the hot, steaming bath and lowered himself there, still holding his towel
on. Naruto was looking at the sky and ignored him, smiling brightly.
This gave
Sasuke a perfect opportunity to study his best friend. It had been a really
long time since he could properly see
him. Naruto had turned into a man. He
was still tanned and his hair was a shining, yellow blonde. The kyuubi whiskers
were dark and clearly visible on his cheeks, making him look slightly
animalistic. He could also see the sharp fangs as Naruto smiled with his mouth
slightly open.
Naruto’s
body was flawless. He knew the man was still a ninja and had to fight a lot,
but he had no scars on his body. That must have been because of the Kyuubi too.
He could see the swirling, black seal on his stomach trough the steaming water.
It looked like the seal had spread to reach his back and his chest.
He was well
built without being too bulky. Still, his body frame was bigger than Sasuke’s. His shoulders were wider and he was slightly
taller. Sasuke’s eyes drifted lower to find that
Naruto was not wearing his towel. He
was pretty well endowed, larger in that apartment too. He felt his cheeks
heating and snapped his eyes back up, only to find Naruto looking back at him.
The blond
had an admiring look on his face, he was not grinning like Sasuke had feared he
would be.
He realized
Naruto was looking at him too, not noticing he had noticed.
He felt
thankful for all his years of hard training. He could be proud of his body
under the observant eyes, though he had not been spared of scars like Naruto.
There were small scars littered all over his body, but Naruto couldn’t see the
biggest one that was on his backside, he was thankful for that.
And he was
thankful he was wearing a towel. He was slightly embarrassed with his own
thoughts, but still, it was not very pleasant to admit he had lost that battle, though he wasn’t a small
man either. His body was lithe and pale, his muscles were hard and strong, but
his body type still made him look smaller than Naruto.
He lowered
his head so he was looking at Naruto trough his bangs. His eyes could not be
seen, nor could the slight blush on his face, though he blamed the hot water
for that.
Soon Naruto’s eyes rose to look into his and the man smiled
lightly. Sasuke was still surprised at the change in Naruto’s
personality.
When they
were kids, Naruto was shy about everything and anything that had anything to do
with nudity or sex. Now he seemed to be okay with himself. He wondered what had
caused that. The man was rather gorgeous so he couldn’t be a virgin anymore,
the thought made him angry.
“You
finally got Sakura for yourself then? Congratulations.” He suddenly snapped, a very bitter tone in his voice.
Naruto
chuckled, lowering his hands into the water and forming little patterns on the
surface with his finger.
“I love Sakura...”
He said, smiling, then lifted his eyes to look at
Sasuke again. The black haired man was looking very pissed, though it was hard
to see with him trying to hide the emotion. Naruto chuckled inwardly. It seemed
that even after all these years he could still read Sasuke’s
mood from his emotionless face.
“… like a sister” He finished, still observing Sasuke’s face. Sasuke blinked, then his face melted into
complete emotionless.
“So you’re
not together.”
“No, we
never were. She dated some people and I dated some people but it would have
seemed silly to try to date each other. She’s my family.” At that Naruto’s face went serious.
‘Like you were before you left’, Sasuke could feel the unspoken words
hang in the air. He sensed the coldness in the other man and decided this would
be the perfect time to change the subject. He shuffled on his seat until he was
a bit higher. The water was a bit too warm for his taste. Naruto didn’t seem to
be bothered, he was slowly sinking further into the
water.
“So, Sakura
was kidnapped a few months ago?”
Naruto
nodded, running his hand trough his hair. Sasuke’s
eyes followed the movement.
“Yeah,
before spring really started.”
“And you
came to look for me because you need my help to defeat Itachi?”
Naruto
nodded again.
“And you’ve
been running after me for several months.”
“Two
months.” Naruto nodded again.
“Instead of searching for them with other Konoha ninja’s?”
He nodded
again. “There are still teams looking for them even without me.”
Sasuke
smirked. “I’m honoured. Are you finally admitting that I’m stronger than you?”
Naruto
nodded. Sasuke blinked, then his wicked grin grew.
Naruto was quiet and serious, observing him.
“You killed
Orochimaru?” He suddenly whispered softly. Sasuke’s
grin dropped.
“What does
that have to do with anything?”
“You’re
stronger than even he was, one of the legendary sannins,
so yes, that makes you incredibly strong.”
Sasuke
stared at him, his eyes suddenly very cold.
“He
deserved to die.” He was tired of this subject and tired of the too hot water.
He turned around and rose from the bath, tossing off the wet towel and reached
for a dry one, too late to realize he had just revealed his backside to Naruto.
He heard a loud gasp, some splashing and then fingers on the skin of his butt.
He jumped.
“What the
HELL!” He turned, folding the dry towel around himself. Naruto was standing in
the water, staring at him with wide eyes.
“Wow, that
scar is really bad! How did you get it?”
“As you
said, I fought one of the legendary sannins.”
“And the
only scar you got is on your butt?”
Naruto was laughing.
Sasuke’s
face grew solemn as he stared at the blond. Then he walked away. Naruto stopped
laughing, jumped up from the bath and ran after him, still stark naked.
“Come up
Sasuke, don’t get mad at me, I didn’t mean anything.” He caught Sasuke, walking
next to him, grinning his foxgrin “So, how did you
get that big scar on your butt?” He sniggered. Sasuke stopped for a second, then continued walking.
“I don’t
want to talk about it.”
“Awww, come on. Tell me the embarrassing, juicy details!”
Naruto grinned at him, trying to stop him by walking in front of him. Sasuke
stopped and stared at his face.
“I_don’t_want_to_talk_about_it. Drop it.” He said icily, walking
past him.
“Come ooon, Sasukeeee-kuuun.” Naruto
whined with a girly voice, hanging on his arm and giggling under his breath. He
found it hilarious that Sasuke’s perfect backside was
scarred like that.
Sasuke wrenched
his arm free and stared at him straight into blue eyes.
“I was
twelve when I went to him.”
Naruto
calmed down finally. He nodded. “I know. I remember it well.”
Sasuke
still stared at him, his eyes suddenly seeming glassy. Naruto frowned.
“Orochimaru
was a pedophile.” Sasuke said with an emotionless voice, still staring at
Naruto.
Naruto felt
like he had been hit. “Oh my god. Sasuke, I’m sorry
I-“
“So, you
finally get it why I have a huge scar on my ass? I had to get him into a
vulnerable position somehow. And he never refused me though his interest waned
when I grew older.”
Sasukes
black eyes were empty as he still stared at Naruto, or past him, Naruto
couldn’t tell. The blond felt like a mountain had fallen on him. Suddenly all
his limbs felt very heavy. He stared back.
“I’m sor-“
“Don’t you
fucking dare to pity me.” Sasuke said with the same icy
voice. “I chose to go to him. It was my own decision.”
He stared
at Naruto. “And he’s dead now.”
Naruto
stepped closer and reached for him but Sasuke flinched and stepped away.
“I’m fine
now. I’m stronger than he was.” he said and turned around, stepping inside the
shower building, leaving Naruto standing alone to the bath yard. Suddenly the
blond was feeling really cold.
***
The next
morning was very awkward. Naruto woke up early but didn’t know if he was
allowed to walk around the bath house so he stayed in Sasuke’s
empty room and stared at the ceiling, thinking about everything. Sasuke had
woken up hours ago, if he had slept at all. Naruto couldn’t say, the room had been dark and quiet when he had come in at
night after spending his day wandering around the town and trying to come up
with something clever to say as an apology.
When he finally
come back he had found the whole house quiet and dark.
He had tried to call Sasuke’s name once in his room,
but there had been no answer and he didn’t dare to approach him. He had been so
angry, but he could understand why.
He and his
big mouth, he growled, tossing around and burying his head into his pillow.
When he
finally decided to get up, it was almost midday and he could hear people come and
go outside the room. He couldn’t hear Sasuke’s voice,
but he rarely ever spoke anyway, so it didn’t mean he wasn’t there. He was
partly afraid that the man had left during the night because of their
discussion, but it wouldn’t be like Sasuke to escape the situation like that.
Though he had ran away before.
Quickly he
dressed into a borrowed silk yakata that he snagged from Sasuke’s
closet and stepped out of the room with his tousled hair untouched. A young
girl stared at him as he walked past her on the long hallway. He heard a giggle
when he had gone past. He smiled lightly, turning to the big kitchen. He knew
Sasuke could be anywhere, he could run into the man more easily than if he
actually went to look for him.
He was
still slightly surprised to find Sasuke sitting in front of table, reading
papers and sipping tea as he walked into the kitchen. The black haired man
ignored him, so he walked past him and to the kitchen lady, asking for some
ramen. He got his portion in a moment and walked to Sasuke’s
table, sitting opposite him.
Sasuke
seemed to finally wake up from his thoughts as the blond set his ramen cup
loudly on the table and sat down, nodding his hello carefully. Sasuke nodded
back, then returning to read his papers. He shuffled trough them, returning to the
first one and glancing at the others, then setting them all down and turned to
look at Naruto.
“We should
leave as soon as we can so we won’t waste any time. You’ve wasted enough of
that.”
Naruto
slurped ramen into his mouth, looking very surprised.
“You’wwe stiww acbuawwy comiw wif me?” He mumbled trough his ramen and made Sasuke glare at him.
“Would you
be ready to leave today?”
Naruto
nodded, grinning widely. He swallowed the ramen in his mouth, jumped up and
went around the table to give a huge bear hug to the other ninja. Sasuke froze
as his hands folded around his slim shoulders.
“Get-off!”
He growled and Naruto squeezed harder.
“Thank you
Sasuke” He said trough his smile, finally letting go and diving back into his
ramen.

They were
set to go in a few hours. Sasuke had given his orders to the workers and
written some papers that he offered to the people he left in charge of the
place. Naruto was wearing his worn, but cleaned travel clothes,
Sasuke was dressed in all black, his hair tied up on a tight ponytail.
They were
soon running out of the town, travelling towards what Sasuke suspected was the
direction to Konoha. After a few hours of running they took a short break to
drink and eat. Naruto sat on the ground, slurping his ramen with amazing speed
as Sasuke sat on a tree branch over him and kept watch as he drank his water.
“Do you
have any idea where we are actually going?” Sasuke finally asked with an
irritated voice. Naruto glanced up and smiled. “Yeah, I know. Trust me.”
“How can
you know?” He was getting suspicious. How could he know that Naruto hadn’t
changed sides and wasn’t now working for Itachi.
Naruto looked at him with his blue eyes, then got up and climbed next to him on
the branch.
“I can
sense him, like I could sense you. He’s far away, but we are headed for the
right direction.”
“Why didn’t
you find them when they took Sakura? You told me you lost tract at that time.”
“They used
some sort of thing to block all tries to follow. They are not worried about
that anymore, they want to be found.” Naruto frowned, seeming to realize it
himself only now. Sasuke stared at him for a while, but soon turned his face
away and started packing his things. “Come on, lets
move on.”
