Summary
Sasuke’s selfishness was always the
cause of Naruto’s pain, but the brunette never intended any of it. Their friendship strained when he left on the
stipulations of avenging his clan, but now that he returned, he learned nothing
held importance over his relationship with Naruto. In return, Naruto would never let Sasuke go
again.
A Yearning Heart
Chapter
One
Hurried
steps strode towards an unkempt bed, dark eyes entranced by the innocent face
Naruto wore when sleeping. Long fingers
descended to roughly shake the younger man.
“Get up idiot.” Sasuke growled, withdrawing his hands after Naruto stirred. He left the bedside in search of edible
items.
The
blonde cracked open an eye as he stretched his arms above his head. He saw Sasuke’s blurry figure rummaging
through his cupboards and fridge. “Bastard,
I set my alarm! I was gonna get
up.” Naruto referred to his chic alarm
clock, but it displayed a horrifying hour.
No way did he oversleep till nine o’clock.
“You
should have set it for at least seven.”
Sasuke voiced the set time for Naruto’s alarm as he turned on the stove,
wondering if eggs could possibly go bad.
“Just,
you…shut up.” Naruto grumbled as he
quickly began undressing in his small apartment. He had yet to upgrade his housing from the
very same one room residency of six years ago.
Sasuke
glanced back at Naruto, his eyes strolling casually down the well toned chest,
earning a retort from the man. “Shesh, you could have the decency to look away while I’m
changing, ass.”
Sasuke
only smirked at Naruto’s remark before turning away to flip over the eggs and
stir them around once more. He soon
turned the stove off.
Naruto preferred eating a homemade breakfast
over slipping on his jacket and shoes.
His nose, more than eyes, guided him to the table as Sasuke set down a
plate of toast, eggs, and glass of orange juice. The cocky glance thrown at Naruto did not go
unnoticed. It was merely ignored.
The
fork handed to Naruto endured rough treatment as the blonde ninja hastily gulped
down the food. Sasuke warned the blond
to slow down, but his friend ceased to listen.
Mercilessly, strong jaws crushed the food, and Naruto’s tongue pushed it
down to the throat, his Adam’s apple bobbing with each swallow.
Sasuke
raised a curious eyebrow at pert nipples peeking through Naruto’s fishnet shirt
and then stood up to fetch Naruto’s jacket.
When he came back the ringing sound of Naruto’s plate wobbling plate in
the sink reached his ears before a muffled thanks, then Naruto slid on the
offered clothing and squished his feet into a pair of sandals.
Grabbing
the blonde’s bag, Sasuke opened the front door, ushering Naruto out of it as
soon as the boy had he shoes on. “We’re
late.” The brunette stated
indifferently.
Naruto
grinned. “Anticipation makes one’s
arrival more valued.”
“When
will you stop spurting out that ‘heroes always enter late nonsense’?” Sasuke grabbed Naruto’s hand, encouraging the
other to run faster.
“Well
I’m not the one that planned this dumb trip.”
“If
you had it would be a mess and we’re only lucky Kiba was determined to take
Hinata.” Sasuke added.
“He
didn’t need to invite all of us though.”
“I
doubt he wanted to, idiot. Hinata purposed
the idea of going on a day when all of us had it off.”
“I’m
surprised they found one. Everyone is
always going on different missions nowadays.”
Naruto muttered as he began twisting his hand away from Sasuke’s before
they approached the meeting place.
Sasuke released Naruto appendage, denying his offense from Naruto’s act.
“Sasuke,”
greeted Sakura and Ino with twin shouts.
The girls immediately grabbed an arm, squishing their softest body parts
against him in “innocently” seductive manners.
“You’re late, Naruto.” Sakura
added.
Naruto
felt the wind whoosh past him. Even
though he and Sasuke arrived together, in females eyes Sasuke remained perfect.
“Hey,
Hinata, Kiba, Chouji, damn, everyone really is here!” A genuine smile made its way to Naruto’s lips
as he walked towards his friends. He
found the reunion exciting. The last
time they all gathered the terms detained everybody from feeling any emotion other
melancholy.
“It’s
good to see you, Naruto,” Hinata spoke softly, but unlike when they were
adolescents, her face remained the same color.
Kiba
nodded in agreement. “How ya been?”
The
young men, in addition to Hinata, chatted idly for a few minutes, exchanging news
about their recent activities. Chouji
and Shikamaru returned from a mission earlier this morning while Hinata and
Shino trained until their next mission.
Kiba unfortunately did not receive time off along with his teammates;
instead Tsunade commanded he head a search party
which occupied his last few days.
Before
long, a burst of anger erupted. “Are we
leaving or not,” the blonde she-devil
stipulated. Apparently Sasuke mentioned
he, “was growing tired of waiting,” thus her wish to fulfill Sasuke’s
needs. Ino organized her fellow ninjas
into cells of three, creating the atmosphere of a mission. Just as everything began clicking into place,
Sasuke announced he would travel beside Naruto, throwing both blondes for a
loop.
As
if the girls’ wraith did not already center on Naruto, the boy groaned. “Nah, Sasuke, it’s alright. The girls wanna be with you.” Naruto waved Sasuke off, but the Uchiha would not heed his warning. Consequently, Ino and Sakura filled in his
two hour trip with glares that promised the slip of poison into his ramen bowl—a
sure way to kill the man—anytime his eyes strayed from the road.
Naruto
stretched when everyone finally reached camp, relieved that the girls had left
him alone to pester Sasuke instead. He
held no feelings of jealousy over Sakura’s blatant affection for their teammate
like he had years ago, rather he could only laugh while Sasuke irritably put up
with it. After all, they interacted more
out of habit than infatuation for the brunette, although they did still worship
his godly looks.
Sasuke
slinked over to Naruto as he erected the tent Shino would share with him and
Sasuke. “Having fun?” Sasuke’s words ghosted over the back of the
blonde’s ear, making him shiver.
Naruto
shrugged, “Guess so. You,” he returned
without glancing over his shoulder.
Sasuke
nodded against his neck, cold fingertips running down Naruto’s arms to help
complete the final steps to ensure support of the tent. “Everything is just peachy.”
“Okay,
break it up,” Kiba hollered from a couple feet away, “We’re
going hiking! Now Hinata, if you feel
sick or tired at any point, I could assist by carrying or…” His conversation with the purple-haired girl
faded from Naruto’s ears when the blonde finally turned around to face Sasuke,
a gleam illuminating those dark eyes.
“What
are you waiting for idiot? I’m not going
to kiss you if that’s what you were thinking.”
Sasuke smirked and walked away, his arm shooting out to drag Naruto
along with him.
Naruto’s
brows furrowed. “I wasn’t! You’re the creepy one,” Naruto muttered disdainfully.
Kiba
haughtily lead the expedition, attempting to make up for Shino’s knowledge of
the surrounding area with courageous acts.
The competition between the males amused Hinata, who appreciated her friends’
affection. At the end
of the line Chouji and Shikamaru played Eye-Spy with the clouds as their field. How they found anything among the dotted
cotton puffs mystified Ino and Sakura, but their attention quickly returned to
Sasuke, who kept a close proximity to Naruto throughout the trip. He grinned smugly, making light banter of
Kiba and occasionally Sasuke until Sakura threatened him.
“Hey,”
Kiba shouted, startling myriad birds into flight, “there’s a lake!”
Just
ahead a path lead to the sparkling body of water, but bursting with excitement,
Kiba could not wait and rushed off, towing Hinata behind him. The same smirk from earlier, Naruto noted,
placed itself proudly on Sasuke’s face.
“What
do you say, idiot? Wanna take a dip?”
“Eh,”
Naruto shrugged, wincing a second later as screams erupted, effecting birds
similarly to Kiba’s holler.
“Sasuke
without his shirt on,” Ino squealed excitedly.
“Sasuke
without his pants on,” Sakura quipped
in.
The
two girls bubbled with excitement while a nerve about popped on Sasuke’s
temple. “Yeah, let’s go, Sasuke,” the
blonde smiled.
The
four of them arrived in time to see Kiba lifting a squirming Hinata in his arms—clad
in shorts and a tank top—and dump her into the water. The color drained from her face and she sunk
like a piece of ice in the water before splashing frantically back to shore
where Shino awaited with a large towel in hand, Kiba racing to catch up.
Sakura
giggled. “Now don’t you dare try
anything like that on me, Naruto.”
“Don’t
you worry, Sakura.
I have no intention of being the source of your fury.”
The
pink-haired ninja frowned. “Sometimes strength
is worse than having the ability to defend oneself.”
Ino
chuckled, “Sasuke, feel free to grab me or whatever you like.” A feline smile stretched her lips fully,
making the drop of her jaw uglier than usual when Sasuke stepped up to Naruto
and began undressing the man.
“Get
off me! What are you doing?” Naruto growled, flushing in embarrassment.
“Whatever
I like,” Sasuke answered, winking at Ino who paled.
“That’s
not what she meant! Stupid Ino! Why would you say that?” Sakura began wailing
on the girl.
Naruto
luckily escaped without a scratch and went to test out the water. Dipping in a toe, he suddenly understood Hinata’s pain. He
would not know what freshly melted ice felt like unless someone through him
into a lake full of it, like Sasuke just had.
The water sprayed five feet into the air as he collided with the icy surface,
the water’s temperature adding pressure to his lungs. He sputtered for air when he emerged from the
waves, letting Sasuke’s name echo off mountains from his shout.
* * *
Naruto
took to aggravating Sasuke in any form possible for that incident, after all,
unlike Kiba, the brunette refused to stick even his foot in water. Thankfully,
everyone returned safely to the campsite and dinner—ramen for Naruto—would soon
be ready to eat.
Sakura
left the blonde male baffled when she handed his ramen bowl to Sasuke.
“Did
you bring ramen too, Sasuke,” Naruto questioned.
“No,”
“Well
you know you can’t just take a package from me without asking!” The blond took a breath before relenting, “I’ll
let you have one this time though, okay?”
“I
don’t want one.”
“Well
then what the heck are you, oomph!” Naruto practically gagged as a fork of
noodles was shoved inside his mouth. He
quickly chewed and swallowed before lashing out on Sasuke who shoved another
fork into Naruto’s mouth in response.
Ultimately
Naruto could only surrender and let Sasuke feed him, which the brunette did
more delicately with the blonde’s consent.
“Weirdo,” Naruto called Sasuke names in between bites, a blush tipping
his cheekbones. Not even Naruto’s eyes
could betray the exhilaration of being fed by someone else, though he did not
understand Sasuke’s reasoning.
Various
tales lightened the mood over a bonfire late into the night. Enthusiasm drenched Kiba’s tone and
inflection, resulting in laughter more often than a sign of terror from
Hinata. Shino took to creating shapes
like shadows in the fire’s light with countless little black bugs which,
Shikamaru pointed out, disturbed them more than anything else. Chouji laughed in everyone’s wake.
All
in all, the whole day went relatively smooth considering the people assembled
here, until Naruto crawled into his sleeping bag, and Sasuke crawled in with
him.
“What
are you doing?” Naruto whispered
fiercely.
“Oh,
so you only mind when we have an audience?”
The brunette glanced at Shino whose eyes were concealed by glasses, even
as he slept.
“What! You’re just stupid. Shut up.”
Naruto grumbled, a little too loudly, for several bugs nipped at his
exposed skin until he too shut up.
* * *
Naruto
grumbled the next morning when somebody
woke him up in the wee hours of the morning, perhaps because everyone else had
already risen but that was not the point.
Naruto punched Sasuke several times in the shoulder, not to hurt him,
but out of irritation at the cool brunette’s demeanor. Wasn’t anyone else tried, Naruto wondered.
Rookie
Nine set out after a quick breakfast regretfully, but some people would return to
the life of a ninja immediately. Sakura
and Kiba were both assigned a mission today.
Naruto
sighed. What did his week’s plans
include, other than the picture of Sasuke’s face every morning when he woke up? Naruto blushed at the thought. Although Sasuke and he did not live together,
the brunette appointed himself as Naruto’s alarm clock—being so that his was
incapable.
Naruto
pushed off each tree branch with more force to avert his concentration from
Sasuke, but he miscalculated the branch’s stability and it cracked under his
weight. A notion popped up in Naruto’s
head: if he injured himself and fell to
the ground, when he opened his eyes Sasuke would meet his gaze. The thought distracted enticed him so that Naruto
really did land roughly—of fall—upon the forests coarse floor. Sadly, Sasuke’s angelic face did not match
his words.
“Idiot,
what in the hell were you doing? Sakura,”
he called and the female ninja entered his sight before Naruto shrugged it off
and let that black oblivion consume him.
Funny that these incidents were the only way Naruto knew to gain Sasuke’s
full attention, and even that did not fulfill he desire.
“And another one bites the dust” hahah. Woot. I’m pleased to finally have a new chapter one
because although I liked writing the other very much, it didn’t fit in this
era. Hopefully everyone will enjoy this
chapter just as much though.
