Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: Well I altered both the prologue and the first few
chapters, so hopefully this will appease my great readers! Great readers deserve a great story! The downside though, is that I will not be
giving a daily update now. But do not worry, for updates WILL come until this
story is finished.
Chapter 1: The tortured soul
blonde hair poked out
from torn, gray sheets, a low whine coming from the soul who was seriously
contemplating the easiest way to destroy his alarm clock, as well as that slave
driver of a sensei, Kakashi. Deciding that
he just wanted the noise gone, a pale blue string of chakra flew from under the
sheet, the alarm clock shattering instantly.
Reddish-brown furred ears poked
out, their triangular shape a sign of his demonic heritage. Red slit eyes were followed soon after as the
blanket was discarded.
Could you be any
lazier? A feminine voice called out in his head.
‘Shut it Kaisune’ Said Naruto.
Along with the inherit knowledge
that was given to him at birth, a newborn kit was sealed in him as well. Neither he, nor the kit knew where she had
come from, but they both could feel her vast amounts of energy. Almost comparable to my mothers, thought
Naruto solemnly the first time the two had a conversation, he missed his
parents, for although he never met either of them that he could remember, their knowledge and memories were imprinted into him along
with his heritage.
Any time the young kit, (for her
age was nearly identical to Naruto’s) tried to remember where she had come
from, the only thing that she remembered, was a blinding flash of light, and
her next coherent thought was where she was behind her cage.
‘And I’m not lazy’ Grumbled the
blonde, casting a simple genjutsu over himself, rendering his appearance that
which was distinctly humana with no trace of his ears, or the two fox tails
that swayed behind his human form.
Demon fox could control how many
tails their human form showed, but could not show any more than they had
acquired, so Naruto being Naruto, had always showed as many tails as he possessed,
and yes, he only had two, genjutsu, and ninjutsu, as was inherent from his
knowledge that was passed down. But just
a lack of mastery didn’t imply incompetence, for although he played the part of
a fool in public, he was stronger and faster than any human, including the
hokage.
Naruto looked over at the calendar,
muttering a curse. ‘It’s my
birthday! Damnit,
and I was hoping that today was going to be a good day.’ Although Naruto didn’t know exactly where he
had come from, he knew that there was a village filled with people like him, he
also knew the day of his birth, though most humans didn’t, for he was nearly a
month old when he was left in this miserable town. He had only told his true birthday to four
people, five if you counted the deceased.
Kakashi, Sakura, Sasuke, the third, and the fifth.
But above all else, Naruto detested
this day, for it was the day his life was cursed. It was the day his family became
outcast. His memories told him nothing
of where he had come from, or what his heritage was exactly. For every year on his birthday, the
celebrations started. The
celebrations of his mother being slain.
Exactly one month after his birthday, shops started selling new wares,
and a huge celebration was held to celebrate the slaying of the Kyuubi no
Kitsune.
His birthday did have one good
side, for once every year, during the coming few weeks, nobody talked to him,
nobody spoke to him, out of the hatred of the person who they believe brought
the wrath of the Kyuubi no Kitsune, and as such the death of the fourth. He finally had the peace and quiet that he
deserved. Although many people thought
that he was just an orphan from a civilian village, who became a delinquent
ninja. But Naruto was the exact
opposite. He wasn’t a genius, but his
mind was more analytical than people gave him credit for. And due to his sensitive hearing, he
absolutely hated loud noise,
especially in public places, where it was noting but white noise.
Sighing,
Naruto walked over to his dresser, looking in the half-length mirror. He was wearing no shirt, for he couldn’t
sleep in one, and a pair of loose cotton pants.
Stripping the pants off, Naruto was wearing a pair of boxers, a fox on
each leg, the tail rapped around the back.
Opening the dresser drawer, Naruto pulled out a set of loose black
pants, a small hole cut in the back, like all of his boxers and underpants, to
let his tails hand out. Pulling on the
pants on, Naruto changed the henge to make the pants look whole. Naruto also
donned a white t-shirt, before walking over to his closet and opening the
door.
Reaching in, Naruto grabbed his
jumpsuit. Pulling it on, he groaned, ‘I
hate orange.’
So stop wearing it!
Naruto gave an exasperated sigh. ‘You know that it is expected of me
Aynara-kun’. As his mask of the village
prankster, he was unconsciously expected to be bright and cheery, and
loud. In the beginning, Naruto didn’t
mind the loud color, but after nearly five years of it, he was getting a little
bored.
He felt the demonness shrug, you could always say that you felt like wearing something different.
Naruto just ignored her. Looking into his closet, Naruto saw a fishnet
outfit that would allow him to move feely enough to still operate as a ninja,
but that wouldn’t be the ‘him’ that the villagers, and his friends, were used
to. Although he wanted to wear something
else with every fiber of his being, Naruto put down the other outfit, knowing
that his sensei would suspect something.
And if Kakashi suspected something, he wouldn’t stop until he was
certain about whatever it was, one way or another.
Finally deciding that his
appearance was fine, Naruto grabbed an egg, and walked out his door. Boiling the egg with a little chakra was a
simple task for the Kaisune hanyou, and he had a quick breakfast, before
speeding over the roofs of the village to meet the rest of his team.
As the bridge came into view,
Naruto’s sensitive hearing picked up a conversation between Sakura and Sasuke, witch seemed too amusing to break up. Stopping a few hundred yards away, Naruto sat
and listened as the conversation continued.
“But Sasuke-kun!”
“I said no Sakura. I
will not do that.”
“But Sasuke!!!”
“NO!!!!!”
Naruto could barely hold back a laugh as his sensitive sight
caught the context of the conversation, filling in the gaps.
Sakura grabbed Sasuke’s arm,
turning him around, and forcing his back against the edge of the bridge,
somewhat cornering the poor Uchiha.
Leaning forward Sakura nearly had her lips on Sasuke’s when he suddenly
ducked, and sent her flying over the rail and into the river below.
Naruto was hysterically laughing as
he walked up behind Sasuke, making the Uchiha jump. Glaring at the blonde, Sasuke muttered
“You’re late dobe”
Naruto just shrugged, “So is Kakashi”. Sasuke just gave his usual “hn” and watched
as Sakura came back up soaked.
“I’m so clumsy Sasuke-kun” Said the pink haired ninja, a
blush on her face. Naruto just rolled
his eyes, because of course, Mr. Stick Up His Ass
Uchiha was always perfect.
You’re just moody kit
‘And with good reason. It’s that time of year’
The demoness just shrugged.
Well you could just never speak to
your friends again. Or, she added
sarcastically, you could flee the
village.
Naruto just
shrugged. He held no resentment towards
his village, even though they put the blame on him for the death of he forth
hokage. The coming ceremonies were an
excuse for the people of Kohona to relax, and put duty aside. Naruto was somewhat glad that his mother had,
although without meaning to, gave them that gift, for time together with family
and friends was more precious than work and money.
Naruto had dealt with the resentment during this month for
the last 13 years, he could deal with it for his 14th
.
Sakura turned, glaring at Naruto, “Oh you finally showed
up”. She was hateful when she spoke to
him, and she always had been.
“Yep, just a little late.” Said Naruto, he was used to her
cold demeanor towards him, hell more than half the
village was openly hateful towards him.
Sakura glared at the young Kaisune
hanyou, shrugging his answer off. Just
then their sensei appeared in a puff of smoke.
“Yo.” He said, and before any of his students could reply, followed it
up with, “I figured that I could give you guys a break for the
our favorite hyperactive ninja’s birthday. Have a happy 14th Naruto!” Sakura glared at Naruto, who just shuffled
his feet at his sensei’s attention.
Sasuke just grunted, as Sakura
immediately brightened up, attaching herself to Sasuke’s arm. Sasuke growled, his sudden dark attitude
scaring Sakura enough to release his arm.
Noticing the moody ‘ice prince’ Kakashi spoke up,
“Something wrong Sasuke?”
The Uchiha just shook his head and
walked away. Not even sparing Naruto a
glance, and for some reason that hurt the blonde. Naruto’s day seemed suddenly less bright as
the Uchiha ignored his very presence as he left.
Aynara sighed, you care too much about him Naruto
‘I can’t help it, he intrigues me to no end, and when he has
that lost and forlorn look in his eyes… I don’t know… I just want to hold him
in my arms and tell him that everything will be alright.’ Naruto sighed, ‘I don’t know Ay-kun. But I feel for him, more so than anybody
else’.
Careful where your
heart treads warned Aynara, speaking with wisdom beyond her age.
Kakashi gave his retreating student
little head, instead focusing on Naruto.
“Naruto!” he called, the blonde turning towards his sensei, “Why don’t
you accompany Sasuke to the festival at the end of the month?” Naruto flinched, but Kakashi didn’t
notice. He really didn’t want to live
with the village’s hateful glares, but then again, it would give him time alone
with Sasuke.
A horrible thought struck him at
that moment. Turning slowly, he was
relieved to find that Sakura had long since left after Sasuke. “But I have nothing to wear.” He complained,
Kakashi merely giving his smile, making his visible eye shut.
“No problem, stop by my apartment tonight.” And with that, Kakashi vanished in a puff of
smoke.
Naruto decided against the quicker
ninja way of returning to his apartment, and instead decided to walk through
the town as people were busy getting ready for the festival. As he was walking by one particularly
beautiful stand, full of paintings from a simple stream to a scene of the
kyuubi no kitsune being slaughtered, they were all magnificently done. As the owner stepped out expecting to make a
sale, he cringed when he saw who his ‘customer’ was.
Pulling out a kunai, the owner,
also recognized as a retired chunin, by his headband, forced the kunai to
Naruto’s throat, leaving the boy squirming on the ground. Apparently Naruto had somehow offended one of
the people who resented him for the fourth’s death. The store owner was not thin by any means,
and his ruff stubble of a beard led Naruto to believe that he lived outside of
the city, in one of the surrounding farm towns.
His foul breath hitting Naruto’s sensitive nose full on as the man
groaned with hatred at the sight of Naruto.
Pulling back his kunai, he put his hand on Naruto’s chest,
forcefully holding him down. “Your being
pollutes my art. Be gone you demonic
bastard. And should I ever see you eying
my art again, I shall gouge them out!”
Naruto flinched, not willing to
fight back, although he could easily kill the man. However, it proved unnecessary as a second
voice pierced the market.
“Well you wouldn’t refuse my business would you?” The owner looked up, to meet the dark eyes of
Uchiha Sasuke. Standing up, the vendor
was wide eyed at being caught in such a position. Quickly standing, the owner brushed himself
off, clearly wanting the business of one of the largest names in Kohona, so
that he could brag about it to the other vendors. “Of course not Uchiha-san.
What would you like?”
“Everything.” The owner looked dumbstruck, but quickly
recovered. With a grim smile, he totaled
up his products, and came at a fortune.
The Uchiha pulled out a pouch, fat with gold, and threw it at the
merchant. “Now be gone before I decide
to replace that bag with a kunai of my own.”
The merchant nodded and fled, looking like a fox with its
tail tucked between its legs, thought Naruto.
Standing up with the assistance of an offered had from his teammate,
Naruto brushed himself off.
“Thanks.” Naruto said ,not meeting
the Uchiha’s gaze a deep blush on his face.
Naruto’s gratitude was met with the signature “hn.” But before Sasuke turned to
leave Naruto said “Don’t forget your paintings”.
Sasuke turned to face his teammate. A slight quark on his lips, indicating a Uchiha’s smile. “Happy birthday dobe.” And with that,
walked away.
A large smile came over Naruto’s
face as he collected all of the paintings into a large pack. Naruto awkwardly carried the large pack on
his back due to the strange angles the paintings were sitting at. ‘I’m really glad that Sasuke showed up.’
Thought Naruto, a small smile gracing his lips.
‘And these paintings are all marvelous.
I couldn’t of asked for a better birthday
present.’
I could Aynara
said, a perverted grin spreading across her face.
Naruto blushed, hoping that anyone
that noticed would pass it off as exertion from toting a large pack. ‘Ero-kaisue.’ Thought Naruto, although he did
secretly agree. As he was caught up
talking to Aynara, Naruto didn’t notice where he was going, and ran into a
young, blonde haired ninja, knocking them both to the ground.
“Oops, sorry Ino!” Naruto said,
standing up, and offering her a hand, which was bat away.
“You’d better be you bastard.” Growled Ino, storming off in
the opposite direction. However Naruto
wasn’t lucky enough for that to be the end of the confrontation. For, unlucky for him, Ino was one of the
town’s favorite ninja, as her shop was extremely popular among the women, and
the dating males of Kohona. As such all
of her yelling drew quite a crowd around the two, allowing Ino to pass when she
stalked away, but closing in around Naruto, heated glares coming from all
directions.
“Look at what you did monster! You should respect ninja who are better than
you!” called some random villager, who proceeded to spit on the unlucky
gennin. Many other taunts came after, as
the mob of people started to become less and less kind.
Naruto didn’t know who threw the
first punch, but as the barrage of punches, kicks, and taunts rained down upon
him, Naruto could only think of one thing, ‘It’s not their fault. I deserve all of this.’ He knew that the villagers resented him, and
although it wouldn’t take more than a thought for them all to be slaughtered,
he couldn’t bring himself to hate them.
He was a monster, an abomination of two worlds, demon and human. Naruto hated being a hanyou, for he knew that
even if he were to flee Kohona, that if his secret ever got out, nobody would
accept him. So he tolerated the abuse,
his only wall to keep from attacking, the knowledge that it made the people
feel better to avenge their Hokage.
“Monster, hokage slayer..” the
taunts continued as such, and Naruto took them all as well as all of the
punches and kicks. Once the group
finally dissipated, one would barely recognize the blonde, for he was bloody,
and as he stood, sure that he had a broken rib.
Luckily, he healed quickly thanks to being a Hanyou, and he still had
enough strength to maintain his henge.
However, his pack wasn’t so
lucky. Paintings were strewn all over
the street, and the few that remained in the pack were tarnished, throwing the
pack to the ground, Naruto noticed one painting that had gotten thrown away
during the assault, and laid not twenty feet away. By some random act of luck, it remained
unharmed, but as Naruto approached and saw which painting had indeed survived,
he froze.
The painting, as
magnificent as it was, made a deep anger flare deep inside of him. For the painting was of the Kyuubi no Kitsune
being slain, a man who resembled Naruto greatly, standing with a bloody
kitana. The portrait was obviously
fictional, for the great fox demon couldn’t be slain so easily, but still. It angered Naruto that this painting was one
to be rejoiced. But at the same time, he
appreciated the skill that it took to create such a masterpiece, and picked it
up, his only remaining birthday present, and fled to his apartment.
---
When Naruto arrived at his
apartment, he couldn’t stop a single tear from cascading down his face. Allowing the genjutsu to fade away, his ears
were folded against his head, and his tails were swishing behind him in
agitation.
Naruto knew that he couldn’t reveal
his secret to the villagers, but sometimes, he just wanted a little respect,
instead of being constantly hated.
Naruto hated whatever god had chosen to curse him with this luck.
It isn’t that bad kit
Aynara echoed in his head, healing his injuries.
Naruto just shook as his injuries were healed. ‘You don’t know how bad it is Aynara-chan’
thought.
Oh but I do, for I can
see it though your mind, and feel the pain through your memories.
‘And I can read peoples minds, but that doesn’t mean I can
predict what they will do next. Being,
and doing, versus, thinking and seeing.
They aren’t the same.’
Aynara sighed, I know kit, but know that I am always here for you.
Naruto snorted in amusement, ‘It’s not like you have
anywhere else to go’. He thought
grimly.
He felt Aynara shrug, and then
smile, as she filled his mind with numerous images, that were
the least appropriate for the time, giving Naruto a vivid idea of how exactly she wanted to dominate his raven
hared teammate, before Sasuke returned the “honor”.
Shutting off the doors in his mind Naruto thought ‘Perverted
fox. And I thought Kakashi was bad’
Sighing, Naruto walked into his
bathroom. “I’m to accompany Sasuke eh?
Well maybe I can put some of those ideas
to use.” Naruto smiled with a perversion
that would’ve made Kakashi flinch, before it was replaced by a frown, and
another tear. “Yea right, like anyone
would want to date a freak like me,” Naruto said, looking at his reflection in
the mirror.
His ears and tails, by means of a
kitsune, were normal, but in the human society… That was a whole other
story. Letting his control fade, Naruto
transformed into his true form, refraining from letting the demonic side take
over, for the safety of the village.
Naruto liked this form. As he was
told by his memories, any Kaisune who had a true form like a humans was
normally extremely strong, even among the demonic ranks, for most would
transform into a fox demon. But not
Naruto. In his true form, he retained
his human attributes, yet his ears were more prominent, as were his tails, and
the hair on his head turned to a dark blood red, nearly black. His teeth took the form of fangs, and his
nails grew into claws.
Personally Naruto liked this form better, it was more
comfortable, and he thought, more handsome.
Admiring his appearance in the
mirror, his extreme senses, for in this form, they were more sensitive than in
any of his other three forms, picked up the sound of his window being
opened. Quickly reactivating his henge,
Naruto stalked out of his bathroom, kunai in hand.
Entering his main room, Naruto was
shocked to see none other than Uchiha Sasuke standing in his room. But something was off. For when Naruto went up to place his hand on
his teammates shoulder, Sasuke whipped around the sharingan spinning wildly.
Naruto flinched at first, but quickly relaxed. He was used to his teammate getting angry at various
things, not the least of which, Naruto when he would make a stupid
mistake. “What’s the problem Sasuke?” he
asked, obviously worried about his teammate.
Sasuke growled out.
“Where’s Ino?”
Naruto shrugged. “Dunno, why do you
ask.”
The sharingan deactivated, and Naruto found himself staring
into Sasuke’s midnight eyes. “I heard
about it.”
“About what?” asked Naruto innocently although he knew
exactly what Sasuke was talking about.
“The attack.”
“Sasuke don’t worry about it,” said a nervous blonde,
looking down so that he wouldn’t have to meet the Uchiha’s gaze. He wasn’t worried for himself, but rather for
Ino and the villagers. “It was my fault any way.” Muttered
Naruto, looking away from his friend.
Sasuke grabbed Naruto’s head, and
forced the blonde to look at him. Naruto
was surprised at his friends sudden forcefulness. However, Naruto couldn’t bring himself to
look at his friend, his eyes looking away.
He caused the trouble, Sasuke shouldn’t worry about it.
Studying Naruto’s face intently,
Sasuke finally let go, much to the relief of his friend. Just when Naruto thought Sasuke knew whatever
he wanted to know, the brunette whipped around and said: “Naruto I never want to
hear you defend any of the bastards in the village ever again. I’ll hunt Ino down myself.”
And before Naruto could reply, Sasuke was gone, the only
proof of his entry, the open window, and the lasting scent. Although the latter only mattered to people
like Naruto, or Kiba who were sensitive to scents. Sighing, Naruto walked over to his couch and
fell onto it. Physically exhausted from
the abuse he had suffered.
