No, I'm talking about the movie with Cher and Erik Stoltz.... You who have seen
it will recognize the scenario later on.

Gaara felt as if his
heart was going to implode, explode, or even expire when he saw that whiteness
in Hinata’s eyes. ‘She really is blind…’ he thought as he drowned in
those white depths. It was as if he was looking into the eternity itself. His
heart began to race in his chest and he wanted nothing more than to sweep her up
in his arms and protect her against the evil forces in the world just like a
warrior on a white horse would come to keep the heroine safe in the books.
But before he could loose
himself completely he let out a grunt and got away and walked into the kitchen.
He hated the fact that she was moving into his mind, his heart, into his soul.
He didn’t like it at all.
“Tea, Hinata-san?” he
choked out breathlessly.
“Uhh?”
“Do you want some tea?”
Gaara asked more properly.
“Y-yes, please… I-if you
a-are having some,” came the quiet reply.
“What?” Gaara had heard
what she said and he also remembered what the woman with the -
I’ll-poke-your-eyes-out-with-my-nipples - said to him earlier. “You must talk
louder because I can’t hear you,” he said with more venom then he wanted.
“Uhm…. YES PLEASE!!”
In the corner of his eyes
Gaara saw Hinata dove down with her face against the pillows and he couldn’t
help but smirk. ‘He, he, I can do this… no problem… I
can do this!!’
~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Hinata felt a hand on her
right arm and her unseeing eyes moved to look towards where she thought Gaara’s
face would be.
“The tea is ready,
Hinata-san,” he said and grabbed her hand gently and led her towards the table.
He made sure that she sat down on one of the chairs and then he poured tea into
two cups. “You want any sugar?”
“No, thank you, but….”
she began but bit off her sentence.
“But what Hinata-san? You
must speak clearly if you want me to understand – speak up if you want to be
heard!” growled Gaara feeling impatient again.
Hinata cleared her throat
and Gaara could see that she fought to keep her voice steady this time.
“Can You See If There Is
Any Honey Instead? Then I would VERY much HAVE that instead….” the last word
almost died out on her lips but he had to give her credit for trying to be
heard.
“Good Hinata-san, you
have a voice – I suggest that you use it more often,” he said and couldn’t help
but feel good when he saw the soft blush cross her face. “One moment Hinata-san,
I will check if there are any honey in the cabinets or else you will have to do
with either the sugar lumps or me.”
‘Or me…. where the
fuck did that came from???’
Gaara almost punched himself when he heard that come from his mouth. But as the
soft mewl that was Hinata’s laugh echoed through his ears he didn’t regret his
words because her laugh had to be the single most wonderful thing he ever had
heard.
“I think I take my
chances with the sugar lumps,” the voice was still rather quiet but it was stern
and without stutter.
Gaara had made progress
and not even one night had gone by yet. Perhaps he could survive this summer.
‘Well, as long as we can listen to that laugh we will,’ his inner voice said
and he couldn’t agree more.

Unbeknownst to the two
youngsters, they were being watched by two people. Tsunade and one of the female
leaders named Kurenai. Kurenai was the younger of the two women and she was in
serious doubt when the name “Gaara” had come up, she knew Hinata from what her
father had told her and in her opinion – Hinata didn’t belong in this sort of
grouping. But Hiashi, Hinata’s father, had been very firm in his decision.
Hinata would learn from the best – and often – the ones to gain confidence from
was from those who had very little.
And most of the youths
that came to their camp were lacking self-confidence or self acceptance. Yes,
according to Hiashi this would prove to be the best for his blind and shy
daughter. This was the place where she could learn how to speak up for herself.
And once that man had decided on something, you couldn’t change his mind.
Kurenai had been reluctant at first, but hearing and seeing this boy made his
way through Hinata’s shy but very solid walls was enough. Perhaps Hiashi had not
been wrong at all?
~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Three weeks went rather
uneventful. Gaara turned out to be Hinata’s guardian dog. He couldn’t stop
himself from helping her get around the camp. They woke up in the morning and
Hinata would joke that he had to close his eyes when he stepped out of the
shower so she wouldn’t see him. Gaara decided it was the small things with
Hinata that made him soft. She had proven herself not to be a total cancer lump
on the heel – because Hinata was one hell of a cook, not to mention her way of
making green tea – she was simply the best.
Gaara had a few visits
from the woman who could threaten you with suffocation with a hug only, but he
just showed her inside their cabin and told Hinata that they had visitors and
that infernal woman could see for herself that Hinata was not suffering in his
company.
Once he was sent out but
he could hear the conversation as he sat down under one of the open windows. The
bitch actually asked Hinata if Gaara had done something improper with her. Which
of course he hadn’t, not deliberately anyway. Of course there had been moment
that he had brushed his hand against her breasts, but that was never
intentionally, it was only when he was trying to catch her before she fell or in
any other situation like it.
‘Did you really think that I
was that kind of bastard? Did you think that I was one of those that could take
advantage of a blind woman?’
he snarled silently as he overheard the conversation and it
didn’t take him long until he was inside the cabin again.
~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Tsunade couldn’t help but
smirk when the red headed boy came through the door . he had probably heard
every word he had said to the Hyuuga girl. Yes, he had she decided when she saw
his eyes, they were flaming mad and he was ready to kill. ‘Hiashi-sama, what
ever made you sure that your daughter would survive this camp… I’m thanking the
gods that she ended up with this boy, he’s the best thing that could’ve happen
to her.’ thought Tsunade as she got up and grabbed the boy by his collar and
dragged him back outside and to her office. She wasn’t a fool even if the rumour
around the camp said she was. But talking close to a blind woman was foolish –
that girl had the hearing and sensitivity of a mutated dog with snake-genes.
The boy was growling
madly when she released him and she silenced him by putting up a finger in front
of him. “Gaara-san, I just want to thank you for what you have done to
Hinata-san. She can talk without stutter, she can form her own thoughts into
words and say them and again – without stutter. What ever you did to her boy –
good work,” said Tsunade and brought her hand around and brushed over Gaara’s
cheek, making him fall back, his mouth open in surprise.
“Continue what ever you
are doing with her, and trust me… I wouldn’t care if you fucked either. Just get
that girl her confidence back and you will have one hell of a woman on your
hand.” said the blonde woman with an ecchi smile before she turned around and
walked into her office, leaving a stunned Gaara behind.
~ * ~ * ~ * ~
It was settled – once in
his future Gaara would kill that pumped up leader of the camp. He didn’t matter
if had to spend the rest of his life in jail, that woman was going to pay for
her ways!! He wanted to break her bones; he wanted to drown her in a swamp for
talking like that about Hinata. And he had no desires to do such things with his
new found friend. No way in hell. Hinata was the best thing that happened to
Gaara since the moment of awakening of his knowledge that he actually cared
about his sister and brother. And this woman and no right to talk about Hinata
like that!!
With a deep frown on his
face he walked back to the cabin and opened the door and was met with her
voice.
“Gaara-san, I’m so glad
that you are back. Tsunade-sama was asking so many questions about you that it
made me feel bad,” said Hinata truthfully as she came up to Gaara and searched
to grab his hands and before he knew it he had let her take them ina firm grip.
“I know Hinata-san, I was
just right outside so I heard it,” came the truthful reply.
“Oh… I’m sorry Gaara-san…
I…” Hinata fell back in her old role and began to stutter again but Gaara just
brought her hands to his mouth and kissed her upper side of her palms.
“Don’t worry about it
Hinata-san, that woman is old and perverted, she could surely need a good…. yeah
you know what… Don’t worry about it ok?”
“Ok, G-Gaara-san… Uhm… I
made some c-coffee… would you like s-some?”
“Only if you stop that
irritating stuttering, you know better Hinata-san,” growled Gaara as the girl
reverted back to her self completely. He hated it. He preferred the girl that
could speak her mind even if she didn’t yell it. He had come to love when she
told him her stories and her dreams. Especially her dreams. He could listen to
her forever when she talked about them. She had so many of them compared to
himself that it almost made him feel inferior.
He looked at her as she
swallowed and the transformation was done – she turned her unseeing white eyes
towards him and showed Gaara a smile that was his only. He was sure of it.
Nobody in the living world had seen that smile on her lips before and he
couldn’t help but chuckle in response. “That’s good Hinata-san, keep that up and
I’ll take you to the bonfire dance on Saturday.”
“Really?!!??””
‘Curse – did I really say
that?’ he thought and backtracked his words. Yep, he had said that.
“Really, Hinata-san. I
will take you to the camp bonfire dance, if you want to go there of course.”
A moment of silence
entered the small cabin before Hinata decided to speak her mind with the angry
youth that had come to play such a great part in her life.
“Gaara-san?”
“Yeah?”
“You have no idea of what
you are to me… do you?”
“What are you talking
about now?” asked Gaara and looked at the young girl as she stood in the opening
to the small kitchen. Before he could react she had crossed the small space
between them and don’t ask him how, but somehow she had managed to pinpoint his
exact location and her hands was placed on his cheeks and she kissed him rather
sloppy on the mouth before retreating back to her former position in the small
area and came back with the coffeepot.
Gaara could see the tight
grip she had on it and he just waited for her to continue where she left off but
she said nothing, she just stood there looking forward into nothingness.
“Hinata-san, what are you
talking about?” asked Gaara as he began to massage the bridge of his nose.
“Gaara-san, we have been
in the same cabin for 20 days or more, I’ve lost count – but you… you… You make
me forget about the connections I have with Akamaru, you make me stand on my own
two feet… You make me free Gaara…. Free!! Can you understand that?!!
And then in old
Hinata-fashion, she tried and to hide her face but Gaara couldn’t help but see
the soft redness that covered her cheeks. She was ashamed of her outburst and
she turned around and tired to sink into the background again.
But Gaara wouldn’t let
her, now he had seen how passionate she could be and he do everything in his
power to keep that side of her in the light. This was a side of Hinata that the
big boobed woman was talking about, this was the side of Hinata that she had to
show the world if she wanted to be accepted. And Gaara was going to make sure
that side of Hinata was in the light most of the time.
‘I am a fool…
Temari-neechan… if you knew what was happening here you wouldn’t believe it.’
he thought grimly. But he did understand what she was saying and he walked up to
her and grabbed her wrist and put his palm under her chin.
“Trust me Hinata-san, I
do know… just… just don’t make me repeat it,” he whispered as his lips ghosted
over hers before he settled down at the table again. “Coffee you said
Hinata-san?”
‘You make me feel free
too Hinata… but I can’t say it… I am not the one to tell others the words they
need to hear… I love my sister and brother and yet I have never told them… but I
would die in order to protect them… isn’t that love Hinata-san? And… And I would
die for you too Hinata-san… I would give my life for you… never doubt that….
Never doubt that…’
The words just flowed
through his mind and for a second he was sure he had said it out loud, but he
had not… but the look on her face told him that she understood without actually
hearing them.
“Gaara-san?”
“What is it Hinata-san?”
asked Gaara as he watched her fill up his cup with coffee without spilling a
drop. One day he had to ask her how she did that.
“This bonfire dance…. is
there a requested dress-code or something?” asked Hinata unsure again, but she
didn’t stutter.
“Not that I know of. The
others just talks about getting booze and shit to get the evening going. I don’t
know if the leaders knows about it, but if they are… they are one odd bunch of
teachers,” said Gaara truthfully.
“So I… So I don’t have to
come in some sort of ball gown?”
Gaara couldn’t help but
smile at this. “No, and trust me Hinata-san, I don’t own anything outside a pair
of kakis and a pair of jeans so that will have to do for me along with t-shirts
and hooded jackets,” said Gaara, his voice telling her that she had no need of
such things.
“G-good, because I didn’t
bring any of those,” said Hinata and blushed again as she sipped the coffee from
her cup.
“You mean you own one?”
asked Gaara in response.
“Yes, several in fact,
but I don’t like to wear them because they are so constricting, making me breath
irregular,” answered Hinata softly.
“What colours are the?”
“Ehhh?”
“The gowns, what colours
are they?” asked Gaara again.
Another blush began to
from on Hinata’s cheeks and Gaara was at loss. He had no idea what made her feel
uncomfortable now. He heard her voice but he couldn’t make out her words.
“Please Hinata-san, speak up or else I can no understand you.”
“I Said That I Don’t
Know!” came Hinata’s firm reply. And then… “They are colours that I look good
in, or so I have been told.”
Gaara knew that Hinata
had been blind since birth but somehow he had just assumed that she knew about
the colours anyway. A typical mistake. A mistake that most people did. So this
knowledge put him on his edge. How was he supposed to tell her if she looked
good in something if she had no clues to how colours looked like?
‘And again why do I care?’
snarled his old personality. ‘Shut up and think of a way to show her
colours,’ said his heart. And Gaara listened to his heart.
~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Hinata felt the warmth from Gaara’s hand as he grabbed her wrist,
he was muttering something about feeling the colours. And knowing Gaara, this
was just as much that she would get from him so she just followed him –
obediently. Suddenly she got the feeling that she was standing in a kitchen.
Don’t ask her how, she just knew that.
“Gaara-san?”
“Just shut up and feel,” growled Gaara as he walked over to one
of the fridges and picked out a cube of ice. How on earth did you teach
blind-from-birth-person colours?
By feeling of course. Blue is cold, right? Fire is red or yellow
thus it warm, right? Gaara began to summon up everything he could about colours
in his head and then acted them out in real life.
Hinata let out a small gasp as something cold came into her hand.
“Do you feel that Hinata-san?” asked Gaara as he put an ice-cube
into her hand.
“Yes, I do.”
“Good, that’s blue for ya.”
“That is blue??!!
“Yeah… and now this..” Gaara removed the ice from her hand then
held it over the stove and warmth began to seep into that cold area where she
had held the ice-cube.
“Do you feel that?” asked Gaara and his eyes was glued to
Hinata’s face as he held her hand over the stove on a secure level. She nodded
violently. “That’s red… red hot actually….”
Hinata giggled and nodded as Gaara grasped her hands again and
led her outside. She could easily tell that they were outside because she could
hear the song from the forest birds. But no sooner she was pulled down and her
hand grasped the strands of grass.
“This is green or brown/green depending on the time of the year.
Right now – it’s green,” mumbled Gaara before grasping her wrists again and
pulled her towards the nurse’s office.
“White,” came Gaara’s voice as Hinata’s hands suddenly was
touching something soft. It was pure cotton and she grasped it with her hands as
the young man next to her began to laugh softly.
“That are the only colours that I can show you at the moment
Hinata-san,” said Gaara..
“So which colour would be suited for Saturday bonfire dance?”
asked Hinata.
“This colour I think,” said Gaara and placed her hands on a large
pine. "This is a gentle grey brown colour. Brown is the colour of the earth.” And
no sooner after he had said that he saw Hinata dove to the ground to push her
fingers into the ground and two seconds later he was met with a bright smile.
“This is brown you say?”
“Yes, that is brown,” answered Gaara with a soft smile.
He had expected much - but tears? No, that was not on his
schedule at all and yet he held a crying Hinata in his arms. He tried to talk to
her but all he got over and over again was Thank you. Poor Gaara, he had no idea
to what he just had done for the lost Hyuuga-girl.
“Hinata-san?” he asked her softly as she turned her unseeing eyes
towards his voice. “I’m sorry.. I… I didn’t mean to make you sad…”
“Gaara-san… you have given me something tonight that has been
denied for me for years. You have given me colours…” said Hinata as she grabbed
her special friend’s hands.
Gaara lost his brain somewhere along the line as Hinata’s soft
lips caught his in a gentle kiss. But the gentleness soon was turned into
something else as Gaara grabbed her shoulders and pulled her closer. His lips
devoured hers, wanting to taste every little bit that she could give him. But
she pushed him away and he was left with his breath caught in his throat. Gaara
was ready to kill at the moment, but the soft smile on Hinata’s lips told him
that he had no need of doing that.
“Hinata-san?”
“Gaara-san, let me find the suitable dressing for the dance on
Saturday, I promise that you will not be disappointed in me,” said Hinata as her
white eyes locked onto his face as if they had been drawn there but some unknown
force.
“Then what?” asked Gaara, driven by his hormones for the first
time in his life he didn’t want to part from her at all.
“Then…. then…. Well, as my dear beloved cousin would say… that
would be fate in the making.
She had not stuttered, she had not faltered, she had said it
sternly and with a flirtatious voice. Yes, Hinata was proud of herself at the
moment.
