Sorry this is so late in coming but I've been having Internet connectivity problems for the past few days and I havn't been able to post. But the good news is that I also finished Kazoku Ame's next chapter and I wrote an apology fic with a very rare pairing. I'll upload it as soon as I finish this. Please look out for it. It's called Winter Dusk.

Naruto shivered violently. The water of the shower had long since turned cold but Naruto hadn't noticed the water's temperature he was too far away in his mind. Currently sitting in Kyuubi's cage as several of Kyuubi's tails petted him in an offer for comfort. He chuckled; the movement made him think of the irony that he really was Kyuubi's pet of a sorts. Turning blue eyes to lock with slitted red he gave a wary smile.

'Kyuubi? You can probably feel my distress and the foreboding that is causing it.' Naruto said seriously and when he looked up he saw Kyuubi's large head give a nod. A sigh spilled from Naruto's lips; fear curling in his stomach and clenching across his heart. Sorrow stained his entire mindscape and Naruto knew that what he was saying now was going to stun both himself and Minato but he had to do it.

'I won't lie to you; Kyuubi. This impending confrontation with Madara is going to be gruesome and I am going to need every ounce of your power and mine.' Kyuubi gave solemn nod as he observed the frail body wrapped in his tails; he never thought it was possible but he felt protective of Naruto and everyone of his precious people.

'What are you saying Naruto?' Kyuubi inquired as he allowed some of his chakra to heat Naruto's chakra pathways; the blonde had yet to notice that his body was shivering from cold or that his immune system was fighting another fever already. He sighed as he tightened his tails around Naruto; really, Naruto needed to take better care of himself. So with a silent chakra flare he tried to contact Minato whilst still paying attention to Naruto.

'Kyuubi; I'm going to release you.' The atmosphere changed drastically; tension flitted through both human and demon body alike. Naruto bit his lip but he couldn't find another solution to finally defeat Madara other than with both Minato and Kyuubi by his side as back up.

'Naruto; do you know what you are asking?' Kyuubi asked stunned; even a shiver of fear tingling up his spine. It made his fur stand on end.

'I know Kyuubi. I know and I trust you. Besides you will finally be free of me.' Naruto said with averted eyes.

'Naruto;' A tail brushed against Naruto's cheeks as he gathered the single tear drop that fell from crystalline blue eyes. 'You know I would like nothing more than to stay by your side for eternity but I understand your reasons; you are merely protecting what is most precious to you. The question is Naruto; will you be willing to face the consequences of releasing me?' Kyuubi asked again; softer this time. Conveying his worry for his host.

'What consequences Kyuubi?' The large fox gave a sigh; eyes closing for a second before opening again and taking in the fearful blue eyes. He cooed softly in concern until he felt Naruto's hands fisting in his fur tightly; good at least Kyuubi could still offer some form of comfort.

'That I am not sure of either Naruto; but since we are merged it could be anything to you dyeing or you getting several appendages that do not belong on any human being. Minato altered your seal when you were born so that our chakras would always be mixed together as time passed and going by the many centuries you have already contained me Naruto; you yourself could already have enough of my influence to sprout your own nine fox tails.' Naruto felt laughter bubble in his throat. He had expected worse than that but Kyuubi also said there was a chance of him losing his life by opening the seal.

'Kit; if that happens you will really be my kit.' Naruto smiled delightedly; the amusement in Kyuubi's voice had broken the suddenly heavy atmosphere.

'It's fine Kyuubi; I'll take my chances.'

'Oh I know you will take the chance Naruto but will Minato allow you to?' Naruto cringed; blue eyes diming at the mention of his father.

'I've failed him one time too many Kyuubi; I'm not going to tell him.' Naruto said with a finality that brooked no room for argument. Naruto became aware of a presence close to his body and shivered as ghostly touched traced up his spine.

'You better go Naruto; think carefully about what you are doing.' Kyuubi said before giving Naruto a harsh push towards consciousness.

Bleary blue eyes blinked open to lock with blue and Naruto formed a relaxed smile before noticing his body temperature and felt cold wash over him.

"Naruto what did I tell you about drifting off? I cannot believe Kyuubi had to contact me in order to come rescue you from the damn shower! Really!" Minato huffed as he pulled Naruto into his arms and wrapping a towel around his Naruto. Sighing in exasperation as he quelled his impending anger; there was no need to shout at Naruto no matter the stupid things he had done.

"You have an important orchestra practice tomorrow Naruto! Do you really want to be sick with a fever?" Naruto felt his heart bubble with contentment as Minato showed such a caring side to him and only him. He gave a smile; hoping to appease the Namikaze heir but it didn't work. So instead his lidded his eyes and placed a teasing kiss on Minato's exposed neck; such delectable flesh that had been revealed as the Namikaze's yukata had shifted to the side and displayed the most delicious sight.

"Beautiful." Naruto whispered as he nuzzled his nose into Minato's neck; his heart stuttering before he forced it to become steady once again. He could not waver in his decision now; he would just have to risk it. He did not deny that he was going to need both Minato and Kyuubi by his side and Naruto for once did not feel guilt or remorse for attempting to expose Madara to Kyuubi's millennia of hatred and evil chakra. Nope; not one bit...

"Naruto? What are you plotting; your evil smile is giving everything away." Naruto chuckled mirthfully; hiding his turmoiled thoughts well. He shuddered when Minato settled him on the bed and also pressed his weight into Naruto. His mind briefly blacked out before he was brought back to himself.

'Kit; you need sleep. No more playing; especially if you are going through with this.' Kyuubi's voice dragged Naruto back to himself and he placed a kiss on Minato's forehead. Enjoying himself as blue eyes slid behind golden eyelashes and brows furrowed beneath his lips.

"Minato; you will look after Kakashi tomorrow right? I cannot miss the practice since I need to perform for the Japanese International Stringed Orchestra the day after tomorrow." Minato gave a nod against Naruto's lips.

"Good; now sleep. I need to be out of here by six tomorrow." With a reluctant groan Minato clambered onto the bed next to Naruto and pulled the covers over them; his arms wrapping around Naruto protectively and enjoying as Naruto curled into his touch. Naruto closed his eyes and allowed his mind to drift; he could hardly believe he was finally going to do it. Allow Kyuubi his freedom...

Naruto feigned sleep and as Minato's breathing evened out Naruto placed a hand on Minato's forehead; chakra swirling in his palm as he placed a light sleeping jutsu on Minato. It wouldn't last more than a few hours but it would be enough for Minato to not start looking for him until it was way past eight in the morning and then he would only suspect Naruto of being at the orchestral practice. He hated laying to Minato; well technically Naruto wasn't lying. He really did have to be at that practice at seven in the morning and he had to leave at six; but Naruto was now slipping from Minato's comforting arms as he quickly dressed. It was just passed midnight and it would give him plenty of time to finally unlock Kyuubi's cage. Yes; he was going to do it now. Otherwise he knew he would lose his nerve.

"See you tomorrow Minato. I love you." Naruto said with a soft kiss to petal pink lips. His dark clothes making him near invisible as he moved through his house and headed for his car; the car keys tinkling in his hands ominously. It was time. He just hoped that Minato would eventually forgive him for this; even if he did die tonight he didn't want to be hated by Minato.

Naruto shuddered as the cold of the room in the shrine seemed to wrap around him. Placing several seals on the shrine and on the shoji doors; the room Naruto had entered was larger than it looked from outside as it was technically bellow ground and the smell of earth and parchment was thick in the air. The walls was covered with bookshelves and scattered among the shelves were hundreds of important scrolls; some salvaged from the ruins of Konoha and some from various other hidden villages.

This was his secret room that not even Minato knew about; it was a room he had constructed to help him one day if he decided to release Kyuubi. Calling upon his knowledge he had accumulated throughout the years Naruto opened several important scrolls; all of the summoning variety and all connected with the Scroll of Forbidden Seals. Several hand seals later the room was filled with smoke and four summons looked at him expectantly.

"Naruto-sama what do you need us for?" A large monkey enquired; it was Sandiame's summons. Enma the Monkey King. Naruto had taken many years to track down these summons and obtain their contracts but it had been worth it. There was Pakkun; staring at him with droopy eyes that was much like Kakashi's droopy eyed stare. Gerotora; the keeper of the key to Kyuubi's cage was staring at him with indifference as he hopped to get a place more comfortable to him. The toad gave him a smile before settling in his hair; Naruto wanted laugh but kept it inside. Katsuyu was silent where she was summoned and looked up at him; well as much as a slug could look.

"It's time; it needs to be done." Naruto merely relayed and there was a collective silence before nods followed his direction.

"Enma; I need an impenetrable barrier within these blood lines." Naruto said as he motioned to the large eight trigram seal drawn on the floor in his blood. He waited for the monkey's nod before he took a breath.

"Pakkun; keep watch. No one is to come close to this area until everything is over. You may summon some of your pack to help you if you need it." The pug gave a nod before he poofed out of existence to take his place outside of the shrine. Naruto turned towards Katsuyu attentively; she was the most important part of this ritual.

"Katsuyu; can you make sure that if any serious injury occurs to both me or any of those close to me during the unlocking to get them out of the way and heal them as fast as possible. Kyuubi is not hostile; as I'm sure I've assured you guys many times but I don't know the outcome of this so I'm taking all the precautions." With a bow to the summons Naruto finally reached towards his head and plucked Gerotora from his hair before setting him on the ground just as he stepped into the middle of the circle.

"Now; Enma. Enclose us after Gerotora is out of the way. Gerotora I'm going to need the key." With that said the frog's from elongated and a scroll was opened; intricate lettering and symbols drew the key to either Kyuubi's freedom or Naruto's death. With a hesitant hand Naruto placed his chakra over the key and prepared himself.

"Right; good luck anyone and if anything goes wrong. You know what to do." There were nods all around and Naruto took a deep breath; his body trembling slightly. When he was sure that Enma had completely enclose the space with his special jutsu Naruto sat on the floor and headed for his mindscape.

'You ready Kyuubi?' Naruto asked as he approached the large fox. He felt Kyuubi's breath wash over him as fox let out an exasperated sigh; he chuckled as he saw Kyuubi shift from one foot to the other almost impatiently.

'Yes; Naruto. But are you?' Naruto merely gave a nod as he finally reached for the paper that held the gate sealed; after ripping it aside Naruto looked at the intricate locking pattern that decorated Kyuubi's cage. The last time he had seen this; Naruto had been learning to control the large fox. Steeling himself; Naruto placed his chakra covered fingers in the lock as the key turned the intricate mechanism. The moment the gears stopped turning and the creak of the rusty cage door was heard was the moment that Naruto's world exploded in pain. Naruto reeled as it felt as if his world was ripping itself in two; chakra both his own and Kyuubi's mingled, merged completely before being ripped apart again by an unknown force.

"Fuck." Naruto said meekly; it felt as if he had screamed his throat raw and wasn't surprised when he felt blood mix with his saliva and drip down his mouth. He was distantly aware of screaming but he couldn't make out if it was him or Minato's screams. He shivered; he just hoped that Minato did not experience anything like this as Naruto felt his world light itself on fire and burn away any form of his consciousness. Kyuubi's presence was strong throughout the unimaginable eternity of pain that rushed through his body. It was a small comfort when he felt tails wrap around him softly and begin to dull his pain considerably.

"Naruto? Wake up." That voice; it sounded a lot like Minato's but it wasn't. No; was that Enma? A groan later and Naruto felt his world shift on its access as if something was missing from him but it was quickly replaced entirely by Minato's presence. Naruto sighed softly; slimy feet on his scalp made as shiver run through his body. That was definitely Gerotora...

"Come on Naruto! Wake up!" Naruto shifted and heaved; his stomach had turned upside down and the smallest movement made his head spin violently. If he was dead this was the worst form of the afterlife he had ever experienced and there was no Sasuke to yell at him that he didn't belong. With snort Naruto finally managed to open his eyes; wincing when the light from several candles made his head throb with severe pain. It was then that he felt a wet nose nudge his neck; the sudden contact sent a shudder through his body as he sat up hastily.

"Good; Naruto-sama. You are alive and well and no one was injured." Katsuyu's voice made blue eyes turn towards the slug and Naruto frowned when his vision seemed that much more sharp than before. He gave a nod and turn to terminate the summons but the slug cleared her throat to gather her attention; his ears picked up the small sound easily.

"What is it?" He asked with a frown.

"Umm; Naruto. You haven't noticed have you?"

"Noticed what?" Naruto said as far as he could tell everything was fine his hands were normal; his body felt normal and his face felt normal only his whisker like marks were deeper.

"Oh nothing;" Another deep voice said. It was definitely Kyuubi's and as Naruto turned he saw the fox; it was much smaller than he remembered and those nine elegant tails were swaying behind him with impatience. "That you really are my kit." Naruto froze; it was then that he felt it. His fingers tentatively reached for the top of his head and touched his ear; only it twitched at the contact and pulled against his head. Fox ears; oh god that meant. Turning his head Naruto nearly fainted as he stared at the nine fox tails swaying lazily behind him. They were thick with golden fur and the tips were completely white; he shivered and as a natural reaction three of his tails wrapped around his waist.

"Welcome to the family Kit; I would just love to see Minato's reaction to this." Naruto felt laughter bubble in his chest. Fate it seemed really wanted to make things difficult to him but for the love of gad he couldn't find any reason to be angry or upset. Turning amused blue eyes towards Kyuubi he gave his own foxy grin.

"It could have been worse." Kyuubi merely shook his head before heading for a corner and laying down on his paws. Slitted red eyes observed Naruto carefully before closing again.

"Kyuubi?" Naruto inquired after he had dismissed his summons'; one slitted red eye glared at him.

"Naruto it's 5:30 in the morning ; you have a practice to get to and I am tired. I need my sleep; I am old after all." Naruto gave a nod; his ears twitching and swivelling as it followed the sound of the shrine bell ringing.

"What about these?" Naruto yelled frustrated as he tugged at one of his tails. Kyuubi merely sighed tiredly.

"Naruto; you are a shinobi. Shinobi have a talent to deceive many people; you'll find a way. And if not then there is always a simple henge that can help you." Naruto nodded as he searched through the long list of techniques he had acquired throughout the years. Nothing came to mind and Naruto knew there was one person he would not be able to fool and one thing he wasn't looking forward to was the hurt and disappointment he was going to encounter within deep blue eyes. With a series of hand seals Naruto settled for a simple henge and headed out of the shrine; trusting the large fox to stay there or at least be where he would be able to find him.

Sitting in front of the 47 stringed harp Naruto said a thank you to any deity that would listen that the harp was his main instrument; as even with his henge his tails were not trapped and swayed behind him idly as he plucked at the strings and carefully tuned those who were out of place. He noticed the advantage of his newest appendages; he could easily pick up the strings that were out of tune and on top of that all the other members of the orchestra who were out of tune; it was going to make his ears hurt but for the first time Naruto couldn't seem to care.

He missed Minato by his side and wished that he would have been here even if it was just a practice; yet, not all of his wishes could come true. Luckily he was right at the back of the orchestra; so his tails swayed behind him as he allowed himself to be carried away by the sounds around him. He had been asked to star as the guest player the next night and he was going to do everything to get everything right; the master piece he had been asked to perform was one of his own pieces that the conductor had happened to overhear a few years ago. Yet it was one piece of ten minutes and he promised to assist the orchestra for an entire two hours so the tedious practice began with several known pieces from all over the world and over several time periods.

"Uzumaki? Please grace the orchestra with your piece." With those words Naruto nodded; at first taking a deep breath as he laid his head against the golden harp's frame before allowing himself to calm completely. Fingers moved carefully over the strings as he performed; producing a harmony that not many had heard or ever expected. A mixture between western composers and traditional Japanese music. It still felt odd to have his tails swaying behind him but he pushed that aside as he concentrated on pulling the notes from the different strings.

Time had no meaning and the only thing that mattered was the love he was pouring into this piece; it was for Minato and for him only. Since it was originally written for his father in the first place those many years ago; a piece that conveyed a love that would never be excepted and yet it was that love that had given him strength that he needed whenever his hopes would dwindle and fade. He poured everything into that one pieces; his heart, his soul and his hope for the future.

"Thank you Naruto; I hope to see the same performance tomorrow evening." The conductor's voice pulled Naruto back to himself as he calmed his breathing; not even noticing the few tears that had escaped his eyes. He hardly even heard the other musicians' clapping and well wished; instead he locked blue eyes with the conductor.

"If I may Sir; I have a request." Naruto said.

"What is it?"

"I wish to dedicate that piece to Namikaze Minato tomorrow night." The conductor gave a nod and Naruto smiled; it would be a surprise for Minato and Naruto wanted to apologize for what he had done as well. He just hoped that his love could be conveyed through the music he was going to be playing...
