Before you read this, you should know some scenes that have already happened in previous chapters will only be glossed over. This chapter takes places in 6, 7, and 8 of Naruto's half.
Chapter EighteenThat night seemed to have brought in a flood of stolen kisses and endless text messages. Sasuke felt mindless; spending the time he wasn't working either thinking about Naruto or lying in his bed with their limbs tangled together. Everything else was pushed to the back of his mind so when Karin suggested he go pick out a suit it took him a second to remember that he was getting married in just a few short weeks.
“Itachi said he would help you pick one out.” Karin smiled at him serenely, her fingers gentle on the collar of his jacket as she straightened out. Sasuke pulled away and dug his hands into his pockets.
He left the apartment with the promise that he would get it done over the weekend. If that were the case, then he'd end up missing the date that Naruto and his friends had so painstakingly planned. The thought alone made his stomach sink because he didn't want to let the blonde down. He'd promised.
The short drive to the high school had him thinking of ways to get out of the suit shopping. Short of breaking the engagement, as appealing as it was starting to become, he didn't have any options. He should've been stressed out over the situation at least, but he felt calm for the first time in months. Naruto and he fell back into their, admittedly, new routine as soon as he came back. Sasuke picked him up from school most days and then they spent some time in his car talking until it was the usual time he would reach the house if he had walked. Sasuke enjoyed the time he spent with the teen. He just wished there was more of it.
Today, though, their routine was a little off. Sasuke parked his car in the usual spot a little off from the doors and got out to lean up against it, just in case Naruto didn't see him. A few minutes later the blonde was outside and he was being followed by a dark haired teenager with pale skin. He heard Naruto snarl something over his shoulder at him and then Sasuke was being kissed. His whole body melted into the touch and he found himself wrapping his arms around the teen's waist, losing himself in the kiss.
“You should do that in the privacy of your own home.”
Naruto broke away from him with a grown and Sasuke watched in amusement as the two teens bickered back and forth. They didn't have the time, though, so Sasuke grabbed Naruto by the elbow and ushered him into the passenger seat. The dark haired boy continued ranting, even threatening to tell Naruto's parents but Sasuke wasn't all too worried. He made sure Naruto was safely in the car before he shut the door and went over to the driver's side.
They pulled up to their usual curb and Sasuke found out the boy's name was Sai. With his skin and hair color, he could've passed as Sasuke's twin and he told Naruto as much. Of course the conversation devolved from there and Sasuke was too busy jerking Naruto off to care about much.
The kiss goodbye was short but it left his lips tingling for hours afterward.

He never realized picking out a suit would turn out to be so monotonous. Itachi sat in a chair next to the dressing rooms while Sasuke disappeared in and out, trying on suits that made him both look and feel foolish. He'd rather be hanging out with teenagers playing rounds of mini-golf.
Sasuke stepped out of the dressing room for the third time and looked himself over in the mirror. The suit wasn't too flashy. It was a simple suit with a soft jacket and a pinstripe vest over a white button up. The pants weren't too short or too tight around his legs.
Itachi made a pleased noise from behind him, obviously happy with his choice. He came to stand next to Sasuke and they made quite a formidable picture in the mirror. Itachi stepped forward and straightened out the lapels of Sasuke's jacket with a sharp tug, frowning as he did so.
“Does Karin usually leave this many blemishes on your skin?” The man asked casually, stepping back to look the younger one over. Sasuke scowled at him without answering and ducked back into the dressing room to change into his street clothes. He could hear Itachi pacing on the other side of the door and felt his stomach sink just a little.
Of course the marks weren't from Karin. She'd never been the type to leave marks, and even if she did, they were always in places people usually wouldn't see, like his inner thigh or lower abdomen. He'd been out of the house more often lately so she didn't have the chance to leave any marks, but Itachi didn't need to know that.
Sasuke stepped out of the dressing room as soon as he was dressed and met Itachi's raised eyebrow with one of his own. He tucked his collar up closer to his neck to hide the marks and headed towards the cashier's counter with his choice of suit tucked over his arm. He paid with his credit card and left the store without stopping to check if his brother was still behind him.
According to his phone, he only had a little over half an hour to make it to the movie with Naruto and his friends. That gave him some time to make it home and shower before he had to leave again.
Itachi didn't bring up the marks again until they were parked outside of Sasuke's apartment. His suit was under his arm and he was climbing out of the car when Itachi reached for his elbow. Sasuke wanted to shake it off but he knew the conversation would only be worse for him later on.
"Be careful." he said after a moment of silence. Sasuke fought the way his body wanted to flinch back and instead nodded curtly. He was quick getting out of the car after that, not looking back as he climbed the stairs to the apartment. Sasuke left his suit sitting on the bed while he took a shower and finally hung it up in the closet when he chose what he was going to wear to the movies.

He was admittedly a little nervous walking up to the doors of the theater. He could see Naruto and his two friends standing a little back from the ticket counter, heads tilted up as they took in the movies listed. Sasuke watched the blonde as he shifted his weight nervously; watched as he wiped his hands on his pants. They were talking in low voices about the movie they wanted to see and Sasuke didn't particularly didn't care what the decided on. He wasn't a big fan of movies or going out, but if he was going to date a teenager, it was something he'd have to get used to.
Sasuke snuck up to the group of three, a smirk curving up one corner of his mouth.
“Go with blood and guts.” he whispered into Naruto's ear, his smirk widening when the blonde jumped. The wild-looking boy - Sasuke thought his name might be Kiba - laughed and Naruto glared at him.
They ended up choosing a horror movie and Sasuke graciously paid for all of their tickets. He let Naruto choose whatever he wanted from concessions and then lead him into the theater, towards a row in the back that hid them from everyone else.
“You look disappointed.” Sasuke told the blonde softly, moving down the row until they were nearly in the middle. Naruto took the seat on Sasuke's right and set the pop on his other side so it wouldn't get in there way. Sasuke kept a hold on the popcorn settled in his lap.
“About what?” Naruto asked him after they were settled. Sasuke jerked his head towards the screen and the blonde sighed. “Scary movies freak me out. I’ve never been able to sit through a whole one.” he confessed.
Sasuke smirked and leaned over the armrest to nibble softly on his earlobe, his body flushing with heat. He blew into Naruto's ear and was rewarded with a shudder.
“Don’t worry. I’ll be here the whole time.” Sasuke assured him. They shared a few kisses before the previews started and Sasuke wasn't afraid to admit that he was disappointed when the blonde pulled away.
The movie wasn't bad, but Sasuke was more interested in the teen sitting next to him. He'd started whimpering thirty minutes into the movie and Sasuke couldn't stop smirking. Part of him felt like an ass for being amused by Naruto's obvious fear of this movie, which seemed silly at best. The other part of him wanted to laugh.
Sasuke made a move during a lull in the movie, when Naruto wasn't so bunched up in his chair. He huffed out a sigh as he slid a hand over to rest on the blonde's knee, letting his thumb tease the seam of his jeans. He felt daring enough to let the hand wander higher and Naruto hissed out his name, shoving Sasuke's hand onto his own armrest. Only a second passed before Sasuke was moving his hand back, letting it slip higher until his knuckles were grazing Naruto's groin.
He was already half-hard.
Sasuke glanced at the movie screen as he leaned over in his seat, the armrest digging into his side. He pressed his fingers against Naruto's cock through his jeans, heat flashing through him when Naruto readily spread his legs. It took a little convincing, his palm insistent on the teen's thickening erection, but he managed to talk Naruto into sucking him off. The space was cramped and Naruto was bent over his own legs, but the heat and suction on his cock was worth it.
The sounds of the movie faded in and out as Sasuke clenched a hand in Naruto's hair. He couldn't stop his hips from jerking forward as the blonde swallowed him down. They were both panting and Sasuke was leaned over him, pressing kisses into the other's sweaty hair.
“Nnn…almost there. Just-ah-a little more.” Sasuke breathed into his hair, his body tensing up as his orgasm rushed through him. He didn't realize what a tight hold he had on Naruto until he heard the teen almost choke on his cum.
“Sorry, bastard. Most of your come got away from me.” Naruto said with a frown, using a hoodie sleeve to clean up the spots on Sasuke's pants. Sasuke didn't even think when he pulled Naruto closer to lick the cum off his chin. It lead to Sasuke pinning him down across three seats, trying and failing to get Naruto's pants off even as his own started to slide down his thighs.
Sasuke should've known things were going too well. The shout made them both jerk apart and Sasuke tripped backwards on his own fucking pants, falling onto the sticky theater floor. He wasn't expecting a fight to break out over something so trivial, but even Sasuke was angry that Kiba would call his own best friend a fag.
They followed Sakura out to the parking lot, Sasuke hanging further back so he could wrap his head around what was happening.
“You’re both sick. Especially you, Uchiha.” Were the first words out of Kiba's mouth. Naruto lunged at him but Sasuke grabbed the blonde by the arms before the argument could escalate.
“What kind of friend are you?!” The blonde yelled back at the other boy, struggling in Sasuke’s grip. “Fuck you if you can’t accept who I choose to be with!”
Sasuke stiffened at the words, too used to hearing his father say something similar. He felt the rage flow through him, his eyes burning into Kiba's as his grip involuntarily tightened on Naruto's arms. He'd never been so angry before, like a fire was burning through him. There was a moment where he thought he was going to lunge at Kiba himself, but Naruto's mouth on his brought him down from that ledge.
Sakura looked on as Naruto ended his friendship with the brunette, tears spilling over in her eyes. Sasuke pulled Naruto's towards his car, shooting a look over his shoulder as Sakura did the same with Kiba. She was talking to him in heated whispers but it was obvious he wasn't listening.
The drive back to Naruto's house was quiet and tense. Naruto had his head up against the window and Sasuke didn't know how to make it better. He let Naruto hold his hand over the center console and offered him a smile and hoped it didn't seem empty. He got a shy one back but it immediately disappeared when the blonde's phone rang. From the tone of Naruto's voice and the sudden paleness of his face, it wasn't good.
"Kiba spilled the beans." Naruto said as he slipped his phone back into his pocket. Sasuke felt his stomach plummet and didn't need to ask what he meant.
He parked in front of the house; let Naruto take his hand again as they walked up the driveway together, a united force.
*~*
The conversation started off easy enough. It was like the night Sasuke found out who Naruto really was. Kakashi and Iruka were sitting on the same couch and he was sure Naruto was sweating bullets under his t-shirt. Kakashi was staring him down without blinking for long seconds at a time.
“I’m speechless. ” Kakashi finally sighed. He looked between Sasuke and the blonde sitting next to him. “I can’t let this go on anymore. The way I see it, you only have two choices. You keep this charade going, or you stop right now. I suggest you pick the second choice, because I think we’re all smart enough to realize what the first one would entail. ”
Sasuke stared him down coolly, knowing his old teacher wasn't kidding. He knew Naruto was going to say something to that, so he quickly put a hand over his knee to silence him.
“You don’t have to take it that far, Hatake. ” Sasuke said calmly. Nobody needed to know how hard his heart was pounding.
“Do you really think that? Last time I checked, Sasuke, you were actually-“ The silver haired man started to snarl out, before Iruka slapped a hand over his mouth, silencing the rest of his words.
“Naruto, you’re free to love whoever you want. Kakashi and I would support you without a second of hesitation. ” Iruka murmured.
“Then why can’t I be with Sasuke? If I can love anybody in the word, why can’t I love him?” Naruto asked.
“Like I said before, you have two decisions. It’s time to make one. ” Kakashi reminded them. “I’m very disappointed in you, Uchiha. I never thought you could be so selfish. ”
“I can always call Shizune-onee-chan and request a new foster home.” Naruto shrugged. He was trying to make it seem like it wasn't a big deal, but Sasuke could tell it was the last thing Naruto actually wanted to do. Iruka looked heartbroken by the words and Kakashi looked like he was reaching his boiling point.
Without a word Kakashi got up from the couch and disappeared up the stairs. He was only gone for a few moments before he returned holding an important looking envelope.
“What are those?” Naruto asked as he took the envelope out of Kakashi's outstretched hand. There was a fancy seal in the corner with the words smudged by what looked like a thumb print.
“Shizune-san isn’t an option anymore. ” Kakashi told him as he sat back down next to Iruka. Sasuke looked at the envelope in Naruto's and then the men sitting in front of him. They looked nervous and Sasuke watched as Naruto opened it, his fingers trembling. Once he'd gotten it opened, he spilled the contents into his lap, and Sasuke felt his breath hitch in his lungs.
Even if Naruto didn't know what the papers meant, Sasuke did. He was almost expecting it when the blonde jumped up from the couch and stormed out of the house. He didn't know if he should run after him or stay behind and let one of his parents do it.
“Just go.” Iruka said softly. Sasuke was up and off the couch before the man had even finished speaking. Naruto wasn't too far down the street so it was easy enough to catch up with him. His face was wet with tears and Sasuke pulled him to his chest, cradling him close and pressing kisses into his hair.
After a few minutes Naruto calmed down enough to return the embrace. Sasuke rubbed his cheek into the teen's hair, his fingers pressing into Naruto's lower back.
Sasuke was torn about what he was supposed to do next. He obviously had to take Naruto back home once he was calmed down, but he didn't know where to go afterward. He knew what he wanted, knew what he had to do to get it.
“We can’t go on like this. ” Sasuke sighed. Naruto lifted his head to kiss him and Sasuke returned it eagerly, enjoying the soft press of their mouths. He lost himself to it for a moment before chuckling and pulling away, only to pull further away when the blonde started to laugh.
“Did I just get adopted?” Naruto asked him. Sasuke only smirked and kissed both of his eyelids, his heart picking up its pace.
“You did.” Sasuke breathed against his cheek. Naruto grinned as he pulled Sasuke in for another kiss and they both melted into the touch. “We should head back, Naruto. ” The raven eventually said, reluctant to pull away again.
“Yeah, you’re right. ” Naruto sighed. They walked back up to the house hand in hand, Sasuke's nerves ratcheting up another notch. Kakashi and Iruka were the same as when they'd left, nervous looking and uncertain which way this conversation was going to go. They immediately stopped whispering to each other when Naruto and he walked into the house.
Sasuke pushed the blonde forward with a hand on the small of his back, encouraging him to say something. His emotions were all over the place and he hoped no one could tell. He tuned back in when Kakashi said his name and by then Sasuke knew what he had to do, but neither of them were going to be very happy with it.
Sasuke grabbed the blonde's wrist and tugged it in the direction of the porch.
“Can we talk outside?” he asked, nodding in the direction of the door. Naruto followed him outside and to the car, where they both sit up on the hood. The blonde looked like he was ready to throw up.
“You look like the world’s about to end. ” Sasuke told him, nudging the blonde half-heartedly because he really didn't know what else to say. Naruto seemed to get it, though, as he leaned over and kissed Sasuke on the mouth, fisting a hand in his shirt. Sasuke cupped the back of his head and deepened the kiss, trying to soak up the feeling in case he lost it.
He didn't want to give it up, but it might be the best thing for Naruto.
“Why can't I keep you?” Naruto mumbled into the kiss, bringing his other hand up so they were both fisted in Sasuke's sweater. The question sent a thrill through Sasuke's body and he chuckled as he kissed Naruto again.
“Will you wait up for me tonight?” Sasuke asked him, sliding off of the hood of the car and pulling Naruto with him. It this was going to be their last time, he wanted to give Naruto something to remember him by. Maybe they could reconnect a few years down the road.
Sasuke drove away with a heavy heart, watching Naruto disappear in the rearview mirror.

The bar wasn't as packed as it usually was on a Saturday night. Ino was serving drink with a smile on her face while Suigetsu mixed them in the back. There was an unfamiliar face in the corner where the bouncer usually stood so Sasuke figured it was someone new Ino had hired.
Ino frowned when he saw him.
“I thought you were taking tonight off.” She said once he made his way to the bar. She pulled a glass off the rack on the counter behind her and filled it with Coke before sliding it across the bar to Sasuke. “Did something happen? You've got a look on your face.”
Sasuke lifted the glass to his lips but he didn't take a drink. He was more concerned with whatever look his business partner saw on his face.
“You okay?” she asked, her eyebrows furrowing. She pulled another glass from under the table and filled it to the brim with alcohol before sliding it to him. He set the Coke down and picked up the other glass instead, knocking back half of what was in it. The alcohol was smooth going down.
Sasuke didn't answer her right away because he honestly didn't know.
“We're ending it.” he eventually told her. He finished what was left of his drink and slid the glass back over to Ino.
“You and Karin?” she asked him as she refilled his glass. Sasuke shook his head to her question. “Wait, you and the blonde? I thought you ended that when you came back from Itachi's place.”
“I didn't.”
“Well that's obvious now. What the hell, Sasuke?” She slid his glass back over but Sasuke didn't pick it back up. He went for the Coke instead because he didn't want to drink too much before he went back to Naruto.
Ino leaned over the counter, her eyes flitting about the bar like she was expecting someone to overhear them even though the music drowned out most of their patrons. He tried to ignore the look she was giving him but it was hard when she was in his face.
He wondered what his expression was now.
“I'm gonna ask you something and you have to promise me you won't freak out.” she said seriously.
Sasuke raised an eyebrow in question. Ino look around the bar again before leaning over the counter, her fingers gripping the edge. Sasuke didn't know what she wanted to ask, but he wasn't expecting it to be that.
“Be honest. Are you in love with that boy?”
“No.” Sasuke responded immediately, although part of him recoiled at the answer. He wasn't sure if his feelings for Naruto went that deep, but there was a large part of him that cared for the blonde. “We barely know each other.”
“Then why do you look like so sad over breaking things off.” Ino sighed, standing back up so she could continue serving other people, leaving Sasuke to think over the question.

He had wanted something soft, something he could carry with him for maybe the rest of his life. It started off that way but Naruto made things crazy. Even after the blonde stumbled over the words Sasuke knew he wanted to say and found himself spilling pieces of his heart in the silence between them, wishing he could take them back, at least a little. Sasuke let himself get lost in the press of their bodies, the taste of Naruto on his tongue, the sound of his voice.
It wasn't the sweet, soft moment he wanted. His clothes were still on but Naruto was warm in his arms. He could feel the blonde's heart beat where they were pressed together, back to front. A part of him was shriveling inside his chest and he thought it might be his heart but he wasn't sure.
Naruto's fumbling with his words only made it sharper and the words tumbled out like grains of sand through his fingers. They floated up towards the ceiling and it was too late to take them back. The damage was done. This wasn't something he could brush under the rug, like he tried to do with so many other things.
The blonde elbowed him in the stomach as he pulled away, grabbing his pants from the floor to pull them on. Sasuke wanted to tell Naruto that it didn't matter, that he wasn't going to marry her anyway, but he couldn't get a word in. Naruto was too busy kicking him out to listen.
He expected the anger and he expected the punch the blonde threw at him when Sasuke tried to turn him around. He didn't have any right to be angry at point, but he just wanted to talk about this.
Naruto punched him again and they ended up sprawled over the bed with Sasuke leaning over him. There were so many things he wanted to say. He wanted to tell Naruto that Karin meant nothing to him; that she hadn't for a long time before they met. He wanted to tell him about the hold his father had over him and the expectations their family had. He couldn't say any of that because Naruto wouldn't understand. He wasn't the type of person to let other people rule his life.
Sasuke leaned down and kissed him on the lips, softly, because he didn't know how else to do it.
"Why would you do this to me?" Naruto said against his mouth. Sasuke felt the words like a punch to the stomach and he asked himself the same thing as he swiped his tongue along the blonde's bottom lip.
He was surprised when Naruto bit down on his lip and not in a sexy way. The fingers suddenly in his hair dug at his scalp and it stung.
“Are you some kind of girl? Idiot!” Sasuke hissed at him, pushing Naruto back down onto the bed when the teen tried to sit up. They struggled for a few brief seconds before Sasuke was abruptly lifted off the bed and came face to face with Kakashi. Sasuke was dimly aware of the bitter taste of blood on his bottom lip but he was more concerned by the kneeling position the older man forced him into.
“I thought you weren’t coming back, Uchiha.” Kakashi said from above him. Sasuke turned his head to the side so he could see the man properly licking the blood away from his bottom lip. He heard Iruka exclaim something from Naruto's bed, but Sasuke was caught in his old teacher's gaze. He was abruptly pulled to his feet a second later and forced against the wall. “I don’t know what’s going on, but it stops now.” Kakashi nearly growled out, his eyes darting briefly to Naruto before they were back on Sasuke. “I want you out of this house. NOW. And after that, I don’t want to see you around my son again.”
Sasuke was handed his shirt and he put it on silently. He watched Naruto as the teen was fussed over by Iruka and he wanted to say something - at the least goodbye - but he lost his chance when Kakashi started pushing him to the door.
"Keep walking." Kakashi told him. Sasuke looked back one more time, opening his mouth to say he was sorry, but Naruto looked away and it was left at that. Kakashi ushered him out of the room and down the stairs towards the front hall. The man stayed close behind him all the way down, not giving him any room to move back. Once they reached the door, Kakashi finally let up a bit, though he definitely wasn't happy about it.
They spent a few moments in front of the door just staring each other down.
"I'm not going to ask why you came back." Kakashi said, crossing his arms with a sigh. Sasuke couldn't meet his gaze.
"I think we both know the answer to that." Sasuke shrugged. He reached behind him to open the door, blood still dripping down his chin, his heart in pieces at his feet. He nodded shortly to his old teacher before ducking outside, clutching his t-shirt tight against his chest as he made his way to his car.
He couldn't help but look up at Naruto's bedroom window as he started his car. All he could think about was the fact that he probably wouldn't see the blonde after tonight. Why would he want to?
Sasuke drove away with a heavy heart, straight to the one place that he felt safe enough in to have his breakdown.
He slept in his office that night, and a few nights after that, drinking away his feelings.
