Deidara huffed as Naruto smacked the back of his hand with a serving spoon. “No, Dei. I don't need help. I'm seven months pregnant not an invalid. I can cook supper.”
Deidara had come to visit as he didn't get to see the boys nearly as often since Naruto had to stop touring temporarily. He was too big for half his antics, not to mention his ankles had started swelling if he was on his feet for too long. Deidara frowned. “Sorry, Blondie. I wasn't trying to say you couldn't handle it. I was really truly just seeing if you wanted any help.”
Naruto sighed and frowned. “Sorry, Dei. Pregnancy hormones are a bitch. I've been taking a lot personally. I don't know how Sasuke still deals with me.”
Sasuke chuckled as he walked through the door. “Because I love you. Because I cherish what you are doing for us in carrying this child. Because I get a lot of amusement watching you yell at 'Tachi for not having proposed yet.”
Naruto smirked. “Speaking of which, I haven't threatened him lately. Might be time for a reminder when he comes to supper.”
Deidara's lips split in a sadistic grin. “I could always hit on Hinata to give him a little push.”
Naruto shook his head. “I'll let you know if it comes to that.” He shrugged. “If you really want to help, you could peel potatoes.” He kissed Sasuke, “I forgot to have you pick up apples. Do you think you could run and get them for me?”
Deidara smiled. “Thanks, Blondie.” He washed his hands before pulling the potatoes to himself and starting to peel them. He listened as Naruto hummed while he chopped some vegetables. “You seem really happy, Naruto.”
Naruto smiled softly and gently rubbed his stomach. “I am. Who knew something like this was possible or could make me smile so much so often.” His smile brightened as he felt his son kicking around. “Give me your hand.”
Deidara handed Naruto his hand and chuckled when it was placed in the spot Naruto's own had been. After a few seconds, Deidara's face lit up with amazement. “That's your baby, Naruto.”
Naruto chuckled and nodded. “I know.” He hummed again. “2 more months, little 'Kashi and we'll be welcoming you into the world. Grandpa will be here in a couple weeks.”
Deidara smiled as Naruto went back to chopping his vegetables. Once the potatoes were peeled, he cubed them as Naruto asked and smiled as the man thanked him and then shooed him back to the living room.
Sasuke walked in with the apples and was quickly chased out of the kitchen as well. He sat with Deidara as Naruto sang away while finishing up the dinner preparations. “He keeps kicking me out of the kitchen. Apparently I have no idea what I'm doing,” Sasuke laughed.
Deidara snickered. “Do you guys have everything ready for your little guy?” Sasuke nodded. “Be honest with me, how happy are the two of you that you're having a boy?”
Sasuke nearly deflated. “More than words can say. I would have loved a daughter as much I love our son, but I'd have been so out of my element.”
Deidara frowned. “I still feel so guilty about Japan. I know we fixed the issue. I know that nothing lasting happened, but if it had.” He bit at his thumb nail, one of the nervous habits he'd picked up from his time with Naruto. “I just keep replaying it; trying to get rid of it.”
Sasuke huffed and ran a hand through his hair. “I wasn't ever pissed off at you, Dei. I knew right from the start exactly how hard you'd be on yourself.” He sighed and lightly punched the man's arm. “You know what Nar would say if he could hear you now.”
Deidara chuckled. “Yes. I do.” He shook his head. “And I imagine he'd probably be giving me that look that says I'm so stupid while he said his piece.” He smiled softly. “I'm glad you both still like me. I'll figure out how to get past it eventually.”
Sasuke nodded, knowing there wasn't much he could say to the man to make him feel better. He'd felt responsible for Naruto's abduction after all because he had suggested his husband meet with Minato alone. But with the life they'd had, he knew he couldn't be responsible for someone else's brand of crazy – only his own. “We don't blame you, so take that for what it's worth.”
Naruto popped into the living room, smiling. “Dinner's in the oven now.” He smacked Sasuke on the arm. “Your asshole brother still hasn't proposed to my sister.”
Sasuke rubbed his arm and pouted. “How is that my fault? I have given him your warnings. I have tried to reason with him. He just wants to do it when it 'feels like the right time.'”
Naruto crossed his arms. “I'm going to take the damn ring out of his pocket and plop it on her hand if he doesn't hurry the fuck up.”
Deidara snorted. “Oh yeah, that's romantic.”
Naruto chuckled. “I am the King of Romance.”
Deidara shook his head. “So King, who all is coming over tonight?” He chuckled as Naruto pouted at the new nickname.
Sasuke rolled his eyes. “Itachi and Hinata, Kakashi and Iruka, and Temari. The rest of the guys had plans that couldn't be rescheduled and Obito and Kisame's flight was delayed until tomorrow.”
Deidara smiled. “Good, I need a break from those two.” He nudged Naruto's arm lightly. “Aw, c'mon Blondie. Don't be mad at me.” He turned to face Naruto with his puppy dog eyes in full display. “You're my favorite person and you are breaking my heart because you hate me now.”
Naruto pursed his lips, but couldn't hold onto his angry face. “Fine. But only because you buttered me up. I knew I was your favorite Uchiha.”
Sasuke smirked. “I'm going to tell Obito you said that.”
Naruto laughed. “Go for it. I'm pretty sure even Obito knows I'm the favorite Uchiha of a lot of people.” he smirked. “But, Sasuke, you're my favorite Uchiha.”
Sasuke shook his head, but wrapped his arms around his husband. “Let us help you when the food is ready?”
Naruto nodded. “I'm not actually sure I can get it all out of the oven. In is okay because it's not hot and I can balance the roaster on my belly.”

Hinata stood with her hands on her hips looking at her boyfriend. “Itachi, leave him. Baki's fine with Gaara.”
Itachi pouted and looked at Temari's kid brother. While he had certainly matured after the accident which ended Baki's life, he was still someone's kid brother. And Baki was the most important thing in his life. He didn't think Hinata would mind that she came in second. “I know.” He sighed and turned to Gaara. “Call us if you have any trouble.”
Gaara nodded and hoisted Baki farther up on his hip. “No problem Itachi. I'm happy to help on my off days.”
Hinata took Itachi's arm in her hand and kissed his cheek. “You know how Naruto will be if we're late for dinner.”
Itachi chuckled, because he certainly did know. Hinata slid into the passenger seat of their car and Itachi closed the door behind her before moving to the driver's side and getting in. He looked over to verify Hinata's belt was on, and was struck by how beautiful she was. He smiled and lifted his hand to her face, lovingly caressing her cheeks. “I love you, Hinata. I know I don't say it often, but you are the most beautiful woman in the world.”
Hinata blushed, but leaned into Itachi's hand. “I love you, too, 'Tachi.” She turned her head and kissed his hand softly.
Itachi shook his head. “I should be doing this in a different location and I should have planned something amazing, but honestly this just feels right.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring he'd been carrying for months. “I know there's no one else in this world for me. You've given me a son, and you put up with my crazy family without complaint. You light up my world like I thought it never would again after losing Baki and you honored my crazy request to name our son after my boyfriend.” He took a breath and looked into Hinata's eyes which were shimmering with tears. “Hinata Hyuuga, will you do the me honor of becoming Mrs. Hinata Uchiha?”
Hinata's tears spilled over. She smiled and nodded, not currently able to make a sound. Itachi placed the engagement ring on her finger and kissed her gently. She cupped his face and placed her forehead against his. “I'm so happy,” she said. “I thought you weren't sure about my place in your life,” she confessed sheepishly.
Itachi frowned. “I never meant to make you think that way.” He brushed her tears away gently, swiping his thumbs along the tear tracks on her cheeks. “I'm too quiet and it's hard for me to express myself all the time, but you make me better at that. I had no reason to live after Baki and then you were there. And you pulled me out of the darkness.” He sighed and kissed her once more. “You make me happy.”
Hinata chuckled. “We need to go before Naruto has our asses for being late.”
Itachi snorted. “Since he's known I've been wanting to do this, he's done nothing but ask me literally every time he sees me.” He kissed Hinata's temple. “I have a feeling when he sees that ring on your finger, it's our get-out-pregnant-man-jail-free card today.”
Hinata tossed her head back and laughed. “That sounds like my Naruto.” She poked Itachi's shoulder. “And exactly how long have you been trying to do this?”
He chuckled and had the decency to blush. “I had the ring with me in Japan.”
Hinata's airy laugh rang through the car. “Well then, let's go put him out of his misery.” She held her hand up as Itachi started driving. The ring was beautiful (she expected nothing less from Itachi). But it wasn't the diamonds that had her smiling. It was the small circle of garnets surrounding it, marking Baki's birthstone.
When they pulled up to Naruto and Sasuke's house, Hinata put her hand on Itachi's arm. Ensuring the ring was in full view. She would have fun finding out if her brother's observation skills had increased at all after spending so much time with the Uchihas.
Itachi rang the doorbell and smiled as Deidara answered the door. “Dei,” he shook hands with the blond. “Good to see you.”
Hinata let go of Itachi's arm and gave Deidara a hug and kiss on the cheek. Deidara smiled at her and winked. He mouthed his congratulations but didn't say anything. “Hinata and Itachi are here Nar,” he called out. “Come say hi. Sasuke can handle the oven for a minute without you.”
Hinata chuckled. “So he's still territorial over the kitchen?”
Deidara nodded. “I got kicked out twice.”
Naruto huffed. “You set a pot holder on fire twice.” He waddled his way over to Itachi and Hinata. He wrapped his arm around Hinata's shoulders and gave her a quick kiss to the temple. “Glad you're here.” He shook Itachi's hand. “If you'll excuse me, I need to take care of the meal quickly and then we can eat.”
Kakashi's silent snickers turned into full blown laughter as soon as Naruto left. He shook his head. “So, it's a game then?”
Hinata smiled. “I just found out he's been harassing my fiance about taking this step. So I figured we'd see if he was still as unobservant as he always was.”
Sasuke had poked his head out of the dining room in time to hear Hinata's statement. “He is.” He smiled as she jumped. “Time for dinner. Come and get it. Nar spent all afternoon getting it ready for you all.”
Naruto blushed. “It wasn't just me. Deidara helped too.” He sat down and smiled at everyone. He and Sasuke hadn't told Kakashi they were naming their child after them, and they hadn't announced Baki's godparents yet. That was part of the purpose of the evening. It was also probably the last big event they would be able to host until after their son was born as it had been getting difficult for Naruto to maneuver. “Dig in.”
Somewhere around halfway through the meal as Hinata reached again for a piece of lefsa, Naruto shrieked. “Hinata! When did this happen?” He grabbed her hand and looked over the ring.
Hinata giggled. “On the way over here, Naruto.” She blushed again thinking of how the moment had been perfect, despite Itachi's insistence that it should have been different.
Naruto's smile lit up the entire room. He stood up and wrapped Hinata in a proper hug as he teared up. “I'm sorry I'm so unobservant! I'm so happy for you.” He lightly whacked the back of Itachi's head. “And it took you damn long enough. I thought Baki was going to have children before you came to your senses.”
Itachi chuckled. “It was very close.”
Sasuke smiled as Naruto made his way back to his chair and sat down again. “You're adorable, Nar.”
Naruto huffed. “You stuff it. I know I'm not observant, but you guys could give me a little slack. I'm a goddamn whale and I am always sore and these hormones are not doing anyone any favors.” He crossed his arms and pouted as Sasuke's eyes sparkled with amusement, though his husband was smart enough not to say anything.
Deidara smiled. “You, Naruto, are amazing. Don't forget that.” He poked his friend in the cheek. “You have taken on worse than baking a kid for a couple more months, haven't you?”
Naruto snorted. “Dei, I don't know how you do it, but you somehow always manage to say something so incredibly asinine that I can't keep on being angry.”
Sasuke shook his head. “So, officially, out loud, let me offer you two my congratulations on your engagement.” He raised his glass to the couple. “May you enjoy this happiness I see in you both now, forever.”
Naruto sniffled and wiped at his eyes. “Sorry, sorry, hormones, and that was just beautiful. I agree with Sasuke's well wishes. Hinata who is my sister in everything but blood and Itachi, who has become my amazing brother. You two are already perfect together and I realize this will likely change about as much as it did for Sasuke and I, but I'm very happy for you.”
Hinata blushed, but thanked them both quietly. Itachi smiled and kissed Hinata's head. Conversation and dining continued for almost another hour before Naruto stood up. “We have gathered everyone here because I'm getting too fat to handle hosting parties anymore and we wanted to announce who the godparents would be.” He smiled at Sasuke, “and the name we've picked.”
Sasuke smiled and kissed Naruto's cheek, taking his hand and twining their fingers together. “Kakashi, you know I have always considered you my father figure. You've taken me in, trained me, and given me things to strive for. You pushed me to be better. You're one of the few people,” he spared a glance at Itachi, “who I have tried to make proud of me.” He smiled at Naruto and his hand gently caressed the swollen abdomen. “We'd like to introduce everyone to our son, Kakashi Obito Uchiha.”
Kakashi wasn't typically one for showy displays of affection, but this was so much more than he ever expected. With tears forming in his eyes, and a lump having settled in his throat, he stood and gave Sasuke a hug. He whispered quietly in Sasuke's ear, “I am proud of you, you know. No matter what you do and where you go in life, I'm proud of the man you've become.”
Sasuke's gaze slid over to Itachi, hoping the man wouldn't be too upset that he wasn't being included in the name. Itachi smirked at his brother. “It's a good name for a strong boy.” When Sasuke's gaze relaxed Itachi chuckled. “I expect the next one to be named after me.”
Sasuke's laughter escaped him as a bark, without his approval. It wasn't often he had such involuntary reactions to things, but they always felt both foreign and amazing. Naruto squeezed Sasuke's hand. “We also wanted to ask the godparents if they would take that honor.” He smiled at Itachi and Hinata, “We of course, could think of no one better than the two of you to take that role.”
Hinata nodded and her lips twitched into a soft smile. “Of course we will.” She rolled her eyes as Itachi quirked his brow at her. “As if you would say no to your brother or mine.”
Itachi shrugged. “Your brother is very good at wrapping people around his fingers.” He chuckled when Naruto huffed. “And I suppose he did endear himself to me very well with his tenacity and love for my brother.”
Deidara chuckled. “Oh Itachi, I know how much you love that little brother-in-law of yours. I know how much death you threaten on anyone who gets too close to him. And how you've gone out for his midnight snacks when Sasuke's had to be away for some reason.” He smirked as Itachi shrugged.
Naruto shook his head, but stood and started to clear the table. Iruka stood up and crossed his arms. “Down, Naruto. They go on the table and you go in the living room and relax.” When Naruto opened his mouth to contradict him, Iruka huffed and grabbed the dish out of Naruto's hand. “It wasn't a question or a suggestion. Go. Relax.”
Naruto pouted, but moved to the living room. Sasuke and Itachi stayed to help Iruka with the dishes while everyone else made their way to the living room to spend time with Naruto. Hinata chuckled as Naruto whined. “It's miserable isn't it? The entire last two months I just couldn't get comfortable.”
Naruto sighed. “I know that it will be worth it in the end, but right now I'm not sure why I ever agreed to this. I hurt, literally, all the time. My ankles keep swelling and I can't walk anymore, I waddle.”
Deidara bit his lip. “So, you're pretty much done getting to have fun then?” He carried on as Naruto's face started turn red. “No more screaming Sasuke's name in random locations.”
Sasuke entered the room in time to hear Deidara's last question. He sat on the arm of Naruto's chair and placed a finger under his husband's chin and slowly, softly tilted his husband's face to his. He leaned down and softly placed his lips against Naruto's, moving them softly, gently. He caressed the pliant lips beneath his before tracing his tongue along the seam. Naruto opened his mouth in answer to the question and let Sasuke's tongue thoroughly map his mouth before more forcefully thrusting his tongue out to answer the questing muscle. When he pulled back, he gently rubbed Naruto's cheeks with his thumbs, smirking at the glazed look in his husband's eyes. “Not in random locations, but at home on our comfortable bed as often as humanly possible.”
Naruto shook his head to clear his daze. “Sasuke, your ass is mine tonight after a stunt like that.”
Everyone broke into laughter as Naruto realized they weren't alone and blushed red from the tips of his ears down his neck. As the night wound down, Naruto thought not for the first or last time that he was so thankful that the band and Sasuke's group of friends had met, had hit it off so well, and had really nurtured each other and grown so close.
