----------Two Days Later----------
Still Naruto slept, never having once woken up since he'd drank some of Sasuke's blood. Slowly, achingly slowly, his bruises faded as he and the demon recovered their chakra with just under their usual speed. He didn't move at all except for tiny responses to Sasuke when he moved or came back from feeding - just a slight turn of the head towards him, or the twitch of fingers as they tried to catch in clothing.
Sasuke spent as little time as he could out in the woods Hunting and always his mind was divided half on monitoring Naruto while the other half focused on getting enough blood so as not to put Naruto in the danger of him losing control. He had just returned from draining the blood of three large deer and settled next to Naruto on his knees. He caught Naruto's hand up when it twitched his way and cradled the frail looking appendage between his own pale, slender hands in his lap, one thumb gently stroking over still tender knuckles. ::Itachi... you bastard...:: It was a thought he'd had often since leaving the hide-out the two Akatsuki ninja had taken Naruto to.
The slight restlessness in Naruto's face faded instantly as Sasuke took his hand. His sleep was restful only when Sasuke was close enough to touch.
Suddenly a large dog wearing a Konoha hitai-ate and a blue jacket with a graffiti face on the back burst out of the trees, heading straight for the cave holding the two boys… and stopped dead about fifty feet from Sasuke, watching the vampire with frightened eyes. He wasn't getting any closer, no matter his master's orders!
Sasuke had looked up long before the dog had burst through the foliage outside of the cave. Seeing the Hitai-ate and the jacket relieved him a little. It wouldn't be long before Kakashi found them then. His hunger for human blood stirred a little at the thought of a meal that wasn't as weak as Naruto, but he obstinately shoved it down. He'd feed again on human blood soon enough. turning from the nin-dog he leaned over Naruto and brushed his lips over the blond's bang-covered forehead. “Help's on its way Naruto...” he murmured thankful that he could say it honestly. Sasuke was worried and it bit at his insides like a viper. Vampiric emotion was really too much to deal with sometimes especially when his Lust was getting stronger from it as well as lack of satisfaction.
Shaking itself to break the hold of instinctual terror the dog began to bark loudly, calling for his Summoner. Kakashi appeared moments later. “Here you are! Where the hell have you been for a whole month?!” he demanded, relieved that he'd finally found his students and frustrated from just how long it took to find them. He stalked up to Sasuke and when he saw Naruto a new from of rage overcame him. “What happened...?”
Kakashi's presence had brought him a small bit more of the relief he'd felt finding Naruto at least sane enough to recognize him. He relaxed a little resting his forehead to Naruto's, but the Jounin's words brought the answer to his mind immediately and he straightened turning to look at his mentor. “Itachi...” was all he could grind out past clenched fangs. The very thought of what Itachi had done to Naruto - and what he could have done that Sasuke didn't yet know - made him want to maul things bloody.
The Jounin didn't need any more explanations. Quickly he ordered his dog to rush to Konoha and lead a medical team back to the cave. Once the dog was gone Kakashi knelt by the sleeping fox boy and began to pull things out of his pouches. “How long have you been here?” he asked as he looked for something edible that was bland. Naruto's body may have been hidden by the cloak - obviously stolen from Itachi - but he could tell by his face that he'd been starved and the sooner Naruto got food into his stomach the better.
“I'm not sure,” he stated truthfully. It felt like an eternity to him, he'd fed enough times for it to be a few days, but the problem was, with his emotions and tipsy as they were right now, he might have fed that often all in one day. He watched careful as Kakashi searched through everything in his pockets and pouch. And still he held Naruto's hand, thumb gently caressing the knuckles in an idle rhythm.
“See if you can get him to wake up and sit him up,” Kakashi ordered as he found some journey bread, a bowl, and a water bottle. The bread was too tough to give Naruto as is but it would be fine after Kakashi had soaked it in water. His hands trembled slightly in his anger, but he held his emotions in check. He could wait until all three of them got back to Konoha and Naruto was safe in the hospital before exploding.
Sasuke nodded slightly and turned his full attention to Naruto, giving them - both Kyuubi and Naruto - a careful mental shake even as he murmured, “Naruto... wake up. Kakashi-sensei is here...”
The fox came awake instantly and helped in the effort to wake his host up. Kyuubi wanted Naruto to hurry up and heal before they both died. Naruto's face scrunched up in protest at waking up and he moaned in complaint.
“Wake up, Naruto,” Sasuke demanded again and gave the blond's conscious mind another little shake. “Kakashi has something for you to eat...” He couldn't remember, himself, any time in his life, when his voice had ever been so gentle and coaxing. It was odd to his ears and Sasuke was a little surprised, but then - in light of everything - he figured he probably shouldn't have been. Tenderness was an emotion one could feel very strongly towards another being. He leaned over Naruto again, waiting for the fox-boy to open his eyes. If Sasuke was right in Naruto's line of sight, it would give him something to focus on to stay awake at least for a little bit. “Naruto...”
“Dunwanit...” Naruto muttered hoarsly, his stomach turning at the very mention of food.
“Naruto,” Kakashi said softly, “You have to eat something if you want to get better. The sooner you wake up the sooner you can go back to sleep.”
Muttering darkly, but not really up to arguing with two people Naruto slowly opened his eyes, focusing on Sasuke. “Dunwanit...” he grumbled again, hoping Sasuke would side with him.
Smirking softly, Sasuke slipped one hand beneath Naruto's shoulders high enough to support the blond's neck as their eyes met. “Too bad...” he murmured a small note of teasing in his voice as he lifted Naruto into the sitting position. Sasuke figured it might be best to be a little less grim when Naruto was awake enough that he might notice Sasuke's brooding attitude.
“Bastard...” Naruto muttered darkly but he didn't fight.
Shaking his head bemusedly at the almost familiar exchange between the boys Kakashi broke off a small piece of the now mushy bread and put it against Naruto's mouth. “Here. Eat it.”
Naruto opened his mouth to argue and the Jounin used that opportunity to push the mush in.
Naruto gagged but somehow managed to swallow it. Even that small piece felt huge as it forced its way down his throat to his empty stomach. He held his mouth shut tight against the urge to immediately throw it back up.
Over the next hour Kakashi fought to get a few more tiny bits of mushy bread down Naruto's throat before letting the boy fall asleep again, face turned into Sasuke's chest and fingers curled in Sasuke's shirt. “Where did you find him?” Kakashi asked, his voice hard with anger.
“There's a large cabin-like building not that far to the west and north of here. Itachi was there with him, but I didn't see Kisame,” he answered settling both arms about Naruto and holding him snugly as Sasuke settled back on his butt with his legs curled out to the side a bit. Naruto was practically in his lap at the moment, which was fine with Sasuke. It gave him the opportunity to monitor Naruto's condition more closely, and holding the blond in his arms proved that Naruto was solid and real and here, safe even if he wasn't very sound.
Before Kakashi could say anything more three ninja teleported into the mouth of the cave led by one nin-dog who dispersed immediately upon reaching his master. Tsunade tred forward on wary feet, then sighed solemnly as she came into full view of Naruto. Mostly uncovered at the moment, the boy's thin body and marred chest showed plainly. It made her was to scream and hit the wall very badly, but that might bring the cave down on them. Reining in her short temper, Tsunade demanded softly. “Tell me everything while we stabilize him better” she demanded and motioned behind her to the other two med-nins who came forward immediately. “Lay him down, Sasuke...” she ordered and then fell silent waiting for obedience and explanation both.
Sasuke cast her an unhappy glance but gently leaned over to lay Naruto out on the ground again. He took up Naruto's hand once more though and began at the beginning. He didn't say anything about Feeding, but he explained that he'd been mostly awake when Naruto was taken and that he'd set out after him immediately that night. It'd taken so long because he really couldn't travel during the day and because he'd had to throw about for the "scent" of the trail because Itachi had teleported so often. By the time he got to the part where Itachi had tried to prevent him from taking Naruto back, Tsunade was nodding to the other two med-nins. Sasuke finished up his report and then looked to the mouth of the cave.
“I found them a little over an hour ago with the help of my dogs and I managed to get a little bit of water-soaked bread into Naruto,” Kakashi added. He appeared calm but inside he was boiling. As soon as he got home he was going to take out his anger on something inanimate and it wasn't going to be pretty.
Tsunade nodded and then stood. “Let's go. He's stable enough now to teleport,” she motioned for the med-nins to take up Naruto, but Sasuke's low warning growl made her retract that instantly.
Sasuke scooped Naruto up and cradled him to his chest once more. Then he stood and nodded to them. NO one was taking Naruto, but him.
