When they woke the sun had begun to go down. Sakura stretched, feeling the ropes tug on her and she fought the desire that wanted to start anew. She was going to have to give more thought to those.
They hadn't moved from where they'd fallen asleep and Kakashi was still inside of her. She felt him twitch before he started kissing her neck. She moaned quietly, the desire fighting harder.
Then her stomach growled and Kakashi chuckled. "That answers that." Sakura laughed and they started to detangle themselves.
Every twist reminded Sakura of the rope still binding her and as she got out of bed, she turned to him. "If I don't get these off soon, hungry or not, we won't be leaving this room for a long time."
He stared at her a moment, his eyebrow raised. "Well, well." He stood up and pulled her into his arms. "Do we have a fetish for this?"
She was determined to get out of the room and get food. It was the only thing keeping her from responding to the heat in his eyes. "I don't know yet. It is undeniably exciting." She kissed him long and slow and finally they pulled apart.
"Yes, we need to get you out of those. It's doing…wonderful things for me, too." He cleared his throat and turned her around to begin undoing the knots.
It took a few minutes, but finally they were off of her. She felt an odd moment of loss, then headed for the bathroom. "We better shower separately." She looked over her shoulder at him and grinned. He laughed and waved her on.
A short time later, they were dressed in more comfortable clothes for moving around in and sitting at the table at the barbecue restaurant again. They cuddled together while they ate, sharing food and in general acting goofy.
By the time they finished eating, the sun had fully set and it was dark. They wandered slowly toward the north end of town, stopping for a cup of tea at the tea shop to give themselves a bit more time. They sipped slowly, chatting about their teammates and the missions they'd been on over the years.
Kakashi thought about the small velvet box in his pocket. He wanted to give it to her, wanted to ask, but knew it wasn't the time. And every time they got back into the room, they ended up in bed and he didn't really want to ask her there.
They finished their tea and walked toward the water. They paused on the north end of the pier and watched for other people. When it was clear, they took to the trees.
It didn't take them long to find the tree they'd sat in the other night. Sakura settled in to wait, but she sensed something was on Kakashi's mind. "What's wrong?" She asked.
He paused to gather his thoughts. He thought he should say something more, but he had no idea where to start. He took a moment to memorize her face, her smile, her brilliant green eyes. The pink hair that fell softly around her cheeks, the strength in her.
He took a deep breath and took the box out of his pocket. Holding it out to her, he opened his mouth. "Sakura. I know that what we face back in Konoha is uncertain, to say the least. I know that we may face a lot of opposition - especially from your parents. But," he had to pause. He felt like a sixteen year old kid again, younger even, asking a girl to dance at the spring formal. He took a deep breath and opened the box. "Will you marry me?"
Sakura stared at the ring for a moment. Of all the things she'd expected, of all the things she thought he might say, this wasn't it. It was more than she could have hoped for, more than she'd dared to dream of. She looked up from the ring and could have sworn he was nervous.
"I…" She stared at him, scared to death it was a dream. She reached over and pinched herself and winced.
That seemed to break the tension. He grinned. "It's not a dream. I love you, Sakura. Be my wife? For real?"
She grinned and threw her arms around him. "YES!"
Kakashi had to grab onto the branches quickly to keep them from tumbling to the forest floor. He wrapped his arms around her tightly and kissed her, pouring the emotion he still wasn't good at showing into it.
She responded to the kiss, deepening it, nibbling on his lips. It took all of her willpower to sit back. She cleared her throat. "I doubt now is the time to let that get out of hand." She giggled nervously.
Kakashi took the ring out of the box and she gave him her hand. He slipped it onto her ring finger next to their "fake" wedding bands. He paused to look at it a moment. He realized now that he couldn't wait for the real one to be there in its place.
They kissed again. "I love it. It's beautiful. I'd ask how you knew, but I think I know." She snuggled into his arms as they settled against the tree.
"Oh? Do tell." He nuzzled her neck, kissing his way from her ear down to her shoulder as far as the neckline of her top would allow.
She was having trouble breathing and had to swat at his arms. "Stop that. I swear, I don't care if we're in the top of a tree."
Kakashi paused to chuckle. "Now that might be something interesting to try."
She laughed. "Perhaps when we're not in danger of getting caught spying?" She asked as she elbowed him.
He stared at her a second. "I was kidding."
She grinned cheekily. "I wasn't."
Kakashi squirmed a bit at the images that provoked. "Anyway, you were saying… How is it I knew what kind of ring to get you?"
"You know me. More than anyone ever has." Her voice was quiet, serious. She picked up the hand that was entwined with hers and kissed it. "You've believed in me in ways I didn't allow myself to." She leaned her head back onto his shoulder and sighed. "I must say, I think I'm getting the better end of the deal, here."
He laughed. "I don't think so. You're getting a broken, perverted old man."
"Puh-lease. In case you've forgotten, we've dispelled the 'old' part, I like the 'perverted' part and if you're broken, then so am I. We've both been through hell. But here we are, capable of loving, capable of looking at a future. I'd say that takes care of 'broken.'" She fell silent a moment. "And if you ever put yourself down again, you'll fly to the other side of Konoha via Sakura Air."
"Now, see. I like to think of myself as a fairly wise man. And as such, I think I know better than to do that again."
She chuckled. "Good."
They sat quietly for a while, soaking up the silence and the closeness of each other. But that's when Kakashi noticed it. He sat up slightly and Sakura turned to him. "What is it?"
"Do you hear that?" He asked her.
She paused a minute and tuned her ear. She heard the waves crashing into the shore, the ocean breezes blowing through the tops of the trees, but nothing else. Then she realized it. "Nothing."
"Exactly." He said. They both stood up and peered into the darkness. There was nothing in any direction from within the forest, but something definitely felt out of place.
Sakura took in every detail of the ocean side. The sand was clear, no footprints or other disturbances. Obviously, no one had been there since the last high tide. The three ships they'd seen the other night were still anchored on the bay.
She turned to Kakashi and that's when they heard the first noises. Carefully, they melted into the dark to watch.
A few minutes later, the noises got louder. They could make out footsteps -- many, many of them, but they sounded odd. As the first of the people came around the bend, they understood why.
In the lead was one of the men Sakura had seen earlier that morning at the tea shop. He held a leather crop of some sort in one hand and a rope in the other. As he stepped clear of the trees and started down the sand, she saw that tied to the rope he held were a number of smaller ropes. These ropes were then tied in a loop around the necks of several women.
They shuffled along, their feet bound so that they could walk, but only slowly. Their hands were tied in front of them, their clothes dirty and torn. They were in various states of dress and undress, but all of them at least wore a tank-type top and shorts. Many were barefooted, but there were a few who stubbornly held on to shoes that looked as if they'd been worn out long ago.
Sakura fought the rage that began boiling in her. She felt Kakashi's hand on her shoulder and she took a few deep breaths. It would help no one if she jumped down there right now and started to punch people out. As much as she wanted to help these women now, she was fairly certain they weren't the only women that had been treated like this.
Some fifty women shuffled by them and out onto the sand. Bringing up the rear was the other man from the tea shop. With him were five other women. These were barely more than girls. They looked barely old enough to have qualified as genin in the Leaf. They looked like they'd been better cared for than the others, but Sakura had a feeling she knew why.
They were all dressed provocatively in very short skirts and skimpy tops cut way too low. She knew what they were keeping them like that for. And it only fueled her rage.
They watched as the group of women sat on the sand awkwardly with their bound legs. A few moments later, they saw a rowboat lowered from the middle ship and someone start rowing toward them. The women sat placidly, almost uninterested in what was going on. The two men righted one of the rowboats that had been left on the sand and herded the younger girls into it.
As the other boat approached the sand, they helped him bring it far enough up so that they could load the other women up into this one. They moved much more quickly than it would appear they could, but within minutes, they were all in the second rowboat and the sailor had started back to the ship.
The other boat followed it, and before long, they had put the women onto the middle ship. Sakura and Kakashi watched as they were lifted like rag dolls and dumped unceremoniously onto the deck of the ship. Kakashi tried to soothe Sakura knowing that her rage was enough to break the very tree they were sitting in.
"We can't help them right now." He whispered into her ear. He ran his hand down her back as they watched the last of them being put on the ship. The first boat was lifted out of the water and the second started its trip back to shore. The two men turned it back over and jogged back through the sand and a moment later disappeared into the trees.
Sakura was working very hard to control her breathing. She wanted nothing more than to run across the water and break that ship in half. She knew Kakashi was right. They could free those women, but how many more would take their place? How hard would it be to track them down if they played their hand now?
The frustration was almost too much for her. But as she pulled her fist back to punch it into the tree, the ring on her left hand caught her eye. She stopped and stared at it. Kakashi's ring. He was right. They could save them. Maybe not those few women, but many, many more. And her anger faded.
She sat hard on the tree branch, buried her face in her hands and cried.

Kakashi sat awkwardly, holding her the best he could while she fought with the emotions overwhelming her. "They have families somewhere. People who love them."
He made soothing noises of agreement and continued to hold her. "I know, baby. I know."
She continued crying for another minute, then sat up. She took a deep breath, wiped her eyes and said, "he'll pay. I don't know when or how, but he will." She turned to Kakashi, threw her arms around him and hugged him. "Thank you. I shouldn't have broken down. I'm sorry."
"Don't. It may not look it, but I'm as angry as you were. I want to rip those men limb from limb. I'm going to have a very hard time facing Fushinji tomorrow. But for those women's families and for all the other women they've done this to or will do this to, I will." He hugged her close and let the feel of her in his arms help to calm himself.

Their walk back to the inn was very subdued. Neither spoke and when they got back, they undressed and slipped under the covers. Turning to each other, they kissed softly and wrapped their arms around each other.
Neither thought of sex, but their hands met, their fingers intertwined and they both realized they needed it. They needed to feel the other, to know that they were there. Kakashi slipped into Sakura and their loving was tender, almost heartbreakingly so.
She wrapped her legs around his, her arms around his back and hugged him to her. He kissed her cheeks, her forehead, her chin, then her lips again, trying to convey all the love he could, desperate to reinforce what he wanted her to know.
When they went off the edge it was together and a moment later, they fell asleep, still wrapped up in each other.
