As Hinata stepped through the door, her eyes zeroed in on Neji. He looked so handsome to her. He’d left off the bandages he usually wore on his head. He wore the simple black kimono and he took her breath away.
Neji felt like the world just dropped out from under him. Hinata was so beautiful it hurt to look at her. He felt someone poke him in the shoulder and when he didn’t react, he heard Naruto’s voice in his ear, “close your mouth.” He didn’t even realize he’d been standing there with his mouth open.
Hinata walked over and stood next to Neji, then turned just in time to see Kiba’s stunned face when he looked at Hanabi. They were really beautiful together. She hoped her sister would be happy. She turned back to Neji.
Neji took her hand and they turned to Tsunade. “You look beautiful, Hinata. “ She took a breath . “We are here today to join Neji and Hinata in matrimony. Does anyone here have any reason why they should not be married?”
No one dared to say anything, not with the present company, not with the looks of adoration on the faces of the couple.
Tsunade turned first to Neji, “Do you, Hyuuga Neji, take Hinata to be your wife? Do you promise to love, honor, protect and cherish her, in sickness and in health, for better or for worse, forsaking all others, until death do you part?”
His heart was in his eyes. “I do.”
Tsunade turned to Hinata. “And do you, Hyuuga Hinata, take Neji to be your husband? Do you promise to love, honor, protect and cherish him, in sickness and in health, for better or for worse, forsaking all others, until death do you part?”
Hinata smiled, “I do.”
As they exchanged the rings, Hinata’s battle with the tears was lost. “With this ring, I thee wed.” Neji put her mother’s ring on her finger and she sniffled. She took her father’s ring and turned to Neji. “With this ring, I thee wed.” And she put it on his finger.
By the time Tsunade said, “you may kiss the bride,” she was openly crying. Neji pulled her into his arms, kissed her gently, and whispered “are you okay?”
She nodded and whispered, “I’m just really happy.” She smiled at him and they turned back to Tsunade.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife.” The room erupted into cheers.
Hinata realized at that moment just how many people were in the room with them. There was Naruto next to Neji, Chouji and Lee behind them with Ino and Tenten. Sakura stood on the other side of Naruto. She turned and there was Shino, standing with Kiba and behind them, Genma and Sai, her father and Kiba’s mother and sister. And, of course, Akamaru.
Tsunade turned, next, to Kiba and Hanabi. “Does anyone have any reason why these two should not be wed?” She paused.
No one spoke. Even if they didn’t fear the present company, most understand the way that the Inuzuka clan worked and that this wasn’t something you could just stop.
Tsunade read the vows first to Kiba. “I do.” He said quietly, his eyes never leaving Hanabi. She then turned to the bride. “I do,” Hanabi said quietly, when she was finished.
Their rings were simple, and they, too, had strong voices when they pledged themselves with each one.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride” Hanabi turned and smiled up at Kiba. He bent his head to her and they kissed, a sweet gentle kiss full of promised passion.
Tsume stepped forward. “Hanabi, you are the chosen mate of Kiba. Do you accept his mark?”
Hanabi nodded. “I do.”
Kiba leaned down and gently tilted her head slightly. He kissed the soft spot on her neck and whispered, “I’m so sorry,” before he bit her. He cleaned the two tiny punctures with his tongue and watched as they healed immediately.
Hanabi looked up at him and they waited. It took only a moment for the visible effects of the mark to begin to show. Her nails grew and shifted to a point, then her teeth followed quickly. She smiled up at him.
“Kiba, you are the chosen mate of Hanabi. Do you accept her mark?”
Kiba looked up at his mother. “I do.”
Hanabi stood on tiptoe and kissed Kiba’s neck the same place that he’d kissed hers. She ran her tongue over her new canine teeth. Carefully, she bit Kiba, being sure to puncture his skin. “I’m sorry,” she whispered when she felt him tense. Belatedly, she remembered to lick the puncture marks and she watched as they healed.
Tsume turned to Akamaru. “Akamaru, will you also protect Hanabi, as if she were your master like Kiba?”
“Yes.” Akamaru barked quietly. Hanabi looked quickly at Kiba and Tsume. Kiba gave at her a puzzled glance.
“Did you understand him?” He asked.
“Yes. At least, I think so. He actually said yes, didn’t he?” Kiba nodded, surprised. “It must be my great-grandmother’s blood.”
Kiba’s grin was huge. “I am so lucky.” He kissed Hanabi again and they turned to his mother.
“The marking ceremony is complete. I hope you both have a long and happy life together. And give me grandpups.” Kiba rolled his eyes and blushed, but Hanabi just laughed.
They two couples turned to Hiashi. He stood stone-still, trying very hard not to show how much it affected him. He cleared his throat and smiled. “Congratulations. I wish you all a very long and happy life. And I agree with Tsume. Lots of grandchildren!” He laughed.

Tsunade’s house was only a few minutes walking from the Hokage offices. It was bigger than Hinata’s little place, but not by much. There was a bigger kitchen and an actually separate bedroom and living room. The living room area was decorated with tons of flowers and a large banner that read, “Congratulations!” There was a table to one side with a cake and another loaded with sake and other drinks.
“We’ll have the food out a bit later. In the mean time, the back garden would be good for pictures.” Tsunade pointed to the back doors and went into the kitchen.
Neji and Hinata glanced at each other, but headed outside, followed closely by Kiba and Hanabi. Sure enough, the photographer was there. They posed for a few pictures, then headed back in.
Hinata was attacked as soon as she came back into the room. Pink and blond and brown hair blocked her vision as she was pulled into a group hug. “Who would have thought it would end up being you next?!” Ino laughed. “Well, not for long. Only a couple of weeks for me. You’ll be there, right?”
Hinata laughed. “Of course! And Tenten, you’re next month, right?” She nodded, grinning.
Sakura chuckled, “We’re going to be a bunch of old married ladies instead of the rookies.”
“Speak for yourself!” Ino said in mock anger. “I don’t intend to ever get old.”
The girls laughed. Just then, they heard some music come on and Hinata felt a tap on the shoulder. “I believe it’s traditional for me to get the first dance with my wife.” Hinata turned to him, a smiled into his eyes.
“Yes, it is.” She handed her bouquet to Ino and stepped into Neji’s arms. The ladies melted into the background and all they saw was each other. “Wow, we really did it.”
“That we did. Are you truly happy, Hinata?”
“Oh, yes. This is the most wonderful day of my life.”
Neji actually grinned. He pulled her closer and kissed her gently on the cheek. They danced together, never looking away from the other’s face, completely lost to the place and the time. It wasn’t until there was a tap on Neji’s shoulder that they looked away.
Hiashi stood next to them. “May I dance with my daughter?”
“Of course, si…I mean, Otousan.” He bowed and Hinata went into her father’s arms.
Hiashi looked down into his daughter’s radiant face. “You are happy, Hinata?”
“Very, Otousan. This is the most wonderful day of my life.” They swayed to the music.
“I am sorry that it came down to this – the rush. You deserve better.”
“Honestly, Otousan, I can’t begin to imagine better. Bigger, maybe, but I’m not even sure I would have wanted bigger. I think, if anything, I would have liked to have some of the clan present. But I think Neji and I can renew our vows in front of them. They should see us commit to each other first hand.”
Hiashi considered her thoughtfully. “Hinata, you are going to be a good leader. I wish I hadn’t ignored you like I did. But I suppose it’s time to get past that.”
“Yes, it is. I am very happy and we still have time to spend together. And you’ll have a grandchild soon to spoil.” She laughed.
Hiashi hugged her as the song finished. “I can’t wait.”
She turned, then, to look for Neji but a blonde head got in her way. “Could I have this one, Hinata? He gets the rest of your life.” Naruto grinned.
Hinata smiled at him. “Of course.” Naruto wasn’t nearly as graceful as Neji, at least in Hinata’s mind, so they just moved a bit back and forth. “I want to thank you.” She said quietly.
Naruto looked confused. “For what?”
She chuckled. “For loving Sakura.”
“Huh? Um, you’re…welcome?” He looked even more confused.
“You do know what kind of crush I had on you for so long, right? The way I used to blush horribly any time I’d get within a few feet of you? Or, worse yet, I’d simply faint?”
His face was comical when understanding hit. Hinata was almost positive there was an actual light bulb over his head somewhere. “Oh! OH! THAT’S why you always fainted? Wow. I had no idea. I guess it worked out, though. I mean, it would have been awfully awkward if I’d had to tell you I thought of you like a sister. Wow.” He shook his head, still looking a bit dazed.
“That’s quite alright. I would have gotten over it. I was serious in the thanks, though. It was just a crush. I think it would have worked out awfully and I can’t imagine loving anyone the way I love Neji.” She smiled again.
“Well. You’re welcome. Glad I could help.” He laughed.
A minute later, Neji was at Naruto’s shoulder. “Take your hands off my wife.” He tried to look menacing, but there was a definite twinkle in his eye.
“No way! She just declared her love for me!” He glanced over at Sakura and sighed. “Okay, I don’t think Sakura would share anyway.” They all laughed and Neji took Hinata back into his arms.
“That sounded so wonderful.” She said.
“What, Naruto wanting you?” He raised an eyebrow.
She punched him lightly on the arm. “No, silly. ‘Wife.’ That’ll take a bit of getting used to. I love hearing you say it.”
“My wife? Well, I’ll be happy to oblige you.” He smiled down at her.
Suddenly, there was clapping and pounding all around them. They looked up, but the calls of “Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!” couldn’t be mistaken. Grinning, Neji pulled her up to him and gave her a soul-shattering kiss. Everyone cheered.
The joke was on him, however, because he couldn’t let her go for a couple of minutes without embarrassing himself. Hinata laughed.
Then it was Kiba and Hanabi’s turn. “Kiss kiss kiss KISS!!” And it was their turn to look dazed when they broke apart.
Then it was time for cake and they, of course, fed each other. Kiba growled when Hanabi pushed it into his face, but he got his revenge. Then they spent the next few minutes cleaning each other up, which led to more calls of “Kiss!” And again, they looked a bit uncomfortable when it was all over. Hinata suspected her sister wasn’t going to get much sleep that night.
She tugged on Neji’s kimono then stretched up to whisper in his ear. “We should consider…um…talking to them. Kiba doesn’t have a father and, well, I’m fairly sure they haven’t…done anything yet.”
He looked down at her as if she’d lost her mind. “I’m fairly certain he knows what happens.”
She rolled her eyes. “He may understand how it works, but did YOU know exactly what to do with ME a…” at this, she blushed, “a virgin?”
She saw the understanding come into his eyes. He nodded. “Okay, yeah, I see what you mean.” He still looked uncomfortable, but more resolved.
When they’d finished with cake, Hinata grabbed Hanabi and pulled her to the side. “I need to talk to you a minute and there’s no guarantee that we’ll be able to before the party is over.”
Hanabi looked curious, but followed her sister. “What’s up?”
Hinata blushed. “I’m sure you understand the basics of things, but, um…” she closed her eyes, willing herself to stop blushing. “Okay, have you and Kiba…” she couldn’t come out and ask.
“Huh?” She paused. “OH! Um, no. Not yet.” Hanabi blushed.
“I didn’t think so. Um, you know the first time…”
“Will hurt, yes, I understand.” They were both bright red at this point. “Is there um, something I can do…?”
Hinata closed her eyes again and took a deep breath. When she opened them, she’d managed to get herself under control. “The pain itself doesn’t last. Really, it’s only a few seconds. Then you’ll be okay. Neji’s going to talk to Kiba, but the best way to handle it is to make that…erm…first part quick.”
Hanabi nodded. “That makes sense. Okay, um, I think we’ve tortured ourselves enough. Let’s go back.” Hinata was only too happy to agree.
The party lasted well into the evening. The shinobi took any chance to party that they could. Tenten looked a bit frazzled when she kept taking the sake cups out of Lee’s hand and exchanging them for something else. They ate and danced and laughed.
Then it was time to go. Hinata and Neji waved and laughed as they headed back to the Hyuuga compound. But instead of her house, Neji took her to his. When she looked confused, he just opened the door.
Someone had been in there just a few moments before. There were candles all over the room, soft music playing from somewhere and the bed was turned down. Across the bottom of the bed was a silk nothing for Hinata to put on. There was a pot of tea, in deference to Hinata’s pregnancy, on the bedside table and a small basket of fruit next to it.
Hinata turned to Neji and smiled. “This is wonderful. Thank you.” And she kissed him. The kiss heated quickly and they had to make an effort to pull apart. “Wow. Um, let’s not let all of this go to waste.” She kissed him quickly on the jaw before hurrying over to pick up the nightgown. “I’ll be out in a few minutes.” She disappeared into his tiny bathroom.
She had a hard time getting all of the pins and braids out, but she managed it. She brushed it out with Neji’s hair brush and then pulled the gown on. It barely reached mid-thigh, and was split up the sides, but the blue silk clung to every curve just right and even managed to show her breasts to the best advantage.
When she came out, Neji was lying on the bed under the sheet. He’d poured the tea for them and she could see his eyes as she walked closely. She’d come to know that look from him over the last several days. She wasn’t going to get much sleep tonight, either.
