fallen_angelz: Okay, another chapter and it's been only five days. Damn, I'm either weak or I just take pleasure in knowing that people like this story. That OR my muse just keeps forcing my hand with this story. Anyway, *bows* thank you for the review and hopefully this chapter is worth the wait.

Chapter Seventeen

In the months that Kakashi had been helping raise the little dark-haired girl, he was familiar with the situations that brought the little girl to tears. Fear, sadness, and being overly tired were three things that easily brought the wave of tears. Right now since it was only five in the morning and she wasn�t accustomed to waking up until seven, Kakashi knew that it would be safe to assume that she was still overly tired.

Tsunade sympathetically looked at Naruto, watching as he tried to soothe the little girl. �Grandma needs to ask you a few questions, Hi-Hi. Then you can go back to sleep.� Naruto said gently. �You can even skip school today if you want.�

If that was supposed to make the little girl happy, it clearly had the opposite effect. �I want to go to school!� Mahina sobbed, pressing her fists harder against her eyes. �I don�t want to stay home from school today!�

�Okay, okay. If you answer Grandma Tsunade�s questions, then you can get a little more sleep before you have to go to school.�

With the little girl temporarily pacified, Tsunade began asking her questions regarding her captivity. Mahina looked confused for a moment before asking why she wanted to hear what happened again. �We just need to make sure that we have everything.� Tsunade told her, not wanting to reveal that Sasuke had returned.

Mahina nodded slightly and began telling Tsunade everything she could remember, starting back with what she thought were real memories. Naruto flinched slightly, his heart breaking as he listened once again to the little girl�s story. �Then they went away and before I knew what was going on, Daddy called me away from Hiro.� Mahina finished with a small nod as she nestled against the blonde.

Tsunade quickly finished writing what the little girl had told her before smiling softly at the little girl. �Thank you, Mahina. You�re being a brave little girl, you know.� Tsunade said with a gentle smile.

�I�m gonna be a kunoichi. I gotta be brave so I can help defend Konoha.� Mahina answered before yawning. �Can we go home now, Daddy? I want to go back to sleep.�

�Naruto, I need to ask you some questions too.� Tsunade told him.

�I�m done here, Naruto.� Kakashi told the blonde. �I can take Mahina so she can get some extra sleep before school.�

Naruto nodded slightly before handing the little girl over to Kakashi. �She can sleep in until about eight. That way she has half an hour to eat before she goes to school.� Naruto told the silvery-gray haired man.

Kakashi nodded in understanding as Mahina nestled against him, grateful to be allowed to sleep. �I�ll see you later, Daddy.� Mahina said sleepily.

�Hi-Hi, you wanna do something new today?� Naruto questioned.

�What?�

�Do you wanna walk by yourself to the office today? I can just have someone follow you so it�ll be like you�re walking without a grownup.�

Mahina stared at Naruto for a moment, her mind processing the blonde�s words. �Uh huh.� Mahina answered as she closed her eyes. �I�ll come here after school.�

�Hey, Uzumaki!�

Mahina looked up from her homework, staring blankly at three of her classmates. �My name is Mahina.� Mahina reminded them. �You don�t have to call me by my last name.�

�Hmph! Whatever.� The leader said with a frown. �Is it true that Uchiha Sasuke�s back in town?�

The little girl stared at the three older girls for a moment before shrugging. �I dunno.� Mahina answered. �Why would I know?�

�Ugh! Naruto-sama is going the next Hokage, duh! You should know these things.�

�Sasami, I don�t know everything that goes on.� Mahina answered as she went back to her homework. �Besides, I don�t care if stupid Sasuke�s back or not.�

The little girl bit her lip as her books were knocked away from her, Sasami�s dark eyes flashing angrily. �Sasuke is not stupid. He was at the top of his class.� Sasami answered coolly.

�Yeah,� Sasami�s two friends added.

�So? My father was at the bottom of his class and he�s going to be the next Hokage. All Sasuke is, is a missing-nin.� Mahina told them as she grabbed her books.

�Naruto-sama isn�t your father, Mahina. You may have taken his last name, but you aren�t his daughter. All you are, is a little girl that wants to play ninja. You don�t even have parents.�

�I do too!� Mahina protested. �They�re just dead and Naruto decided to become my father.�

�I bet that your parents ditched you and your baby brain decided to say that they were dead.�

Angry tears gathered in Mahina�s eyes as she glared at the three older girls before forcing herself to calm down. They didn�t know what they were talking about. They didn�t understand that even though she was adopted, she was still Naruto�s daughter. That they were still a family. �Think what you want.� Mahina said with a frown. �If you think all families have to family by blood, then you�re stupider than you look.�

With a furious yell, Sasami kicked the books from the little girl before pulling her hair. With that, the fight was on.

What in the hell?

Naruto stared at his daughter, seeing that her clothes were torn and bruises along with a few cuts adorned her face. When she grinned at him, he saw that she was missing a couple of teeth. �What happened?� Naruto questioned, immediately dropping to his knees and inspecting the bruises.

�Three of her classmates decided to gang up on her.� Shikamaru told the blonde.

�They asked me about stupid Sasuke and I told them that I didn�t know anything. They got mad and started saying that my real parents probably abandoned me and that my �baby brain� decided to say that they were dead.� Mahina answered with a frown. �I told them that they could think what they want and that if they thought that all families had to be related by blood, that they were stupider than they looked.�

�Mahina�� Naruto groaned. He could already see the girls� angry parents in his apartment yelling that his daughter was nothing more than a troublemaker.

�To be perfectly honest, Naruto, some of the students that were watching did say that Mahina was holding her own against one of the girls. Only when the other two decided to gang up on Mahina did she get most of her injuries.� Shikamaru told the blonde. �Two of them held her down while the one, Sasami, beat her up. Many of the students were trying to get them to let Mahina go, especially after she started spitting out teeth and crying.�

�I didn�t cry that much.� Mahina protested. �Besides, I only gave stupid Sasami a black eye and I didn�t make them fly.�

The blonde resisted the urge to smile but found himself smiling. �Did you get kicked out?� Naruto questioned once he was able to look serious again.

Mahina shook her head before answering, �Sasami attacked me first, I was defending myself,� she frowned and looked down at her feet. �I did everything I did when someone was gonna hurt me. That�s why Sasami�s friends decided to help her.�

�And that�s why she�s been excused for the rest of the day.� Shikamaru told Naruto. �The three girls have been suspended for three days and Mahina�s been excused for the rest of the day since everybody verified that Sasami and her friends began the fight.�

Naruto nodded in understanding before picking the little girl up. �Come on, Mahina, let�s get you home and cleaned up. Then we�ve got to come back here since there�s a few things that I need to take care of.� Naruto said with a sigh before grinning at Shikamaru. �Thanks for bringing her here, Shika. You�re a pal.�

�Troublesome.� Shikamaru answered with a nod before leaving.

�And you, little miss, are going to get changed when we get home. We�re not done talking about this.�

Mahina fidgeted slightly before nodding in understanding. �Yes, Daddy.� Mahina said softly.

�Go easy on her, kit. Even the shadow user says that she was defending herself.� Kyuubi said carefully.

�I know, but she still got into a fight!� Naruto sighed to himself. �She knows better.�

�Yes, but you need to actually stop and take a look. She�s basically you. She doesn�t understand why her classmates and their parents hate her.� Kyuubi told him. �That girl started the fight, Mahina tried to defend herself. That girl�s friends got involved and Mahina got beaten up. She didn�t use her ability because she knew that it wouldn�t be fair. You aren�t failing as a parent, you�re doing very well for not knowing what you�re doing.�

�Daddy?�

Naruto turned and looked at his daughter, seeing that she was wearing a pair of blue pants and a white t-shirt. Now that the blood was washed from her face, her injuries actually didn�t look too bad. Just a few bruises here and there plus a couple of missing teeth. �Let me see your hands.� Naruto said with a sigh as he sat down.

Mahina slowly went over to her father before holding her hands out, her small body tense as if she were expecting to have her hands hit. Naruto shook his head slightly before inspecting the little girl�s knuckles. She clearly was putting force behind her punches since the skin was scraped up and split in a couple of places. �Am I in trouble?� Mahina questioned as tears began to gather.

�No, I�m just trying to think.� Naruto answered as he let the little girl�s hands go. �I�m not going to yell at you. Yelling wouldn�t do anything.�

�What are you going to do?�

Naruto sighed and motioned for the little girl to sit down. �You and I are going to have a talk.� Naruto told her. �I�m proud of you, but I�m also a bit disappointed. Do you know why?�

Mahina nodded slightly and answered softly, �Cause I got in a fight.�

�Yes, that�s why I�m disappointed. Do you know why I�m proud of you?�

�No.�

�Because even when those girls weren�t fighting fair, you were. I�m proud of you for fighting fair.�

Mahina frowned slightly before answering, �I still got beaten up.�

�Yes, but that doesn�t mean that I�m not proud. Yes, I�m disappointed that you got into a fight, but I�m proud that you fought fairly.�

Naruto pulled the little girl into a hug and smiled softly at her. �Stand up for what you believe in, Hi-Hi, even when no one says that you can do it. That�s what a shinobi of the Leaf does.� Naruto said with a firm look. �Am I understood?�

�Yes, Daddy.�

�That�s my girl. Now come on, I�ve got work to do still.�

Mahina nodded and held onto Naruto�s hand as they left the apartment, her head resting on his lower arm. �Daddy?� Mahina questioned.

�Hmm?�

�Is Sasuke really back? Sasami said that he was.�

Naruto hesitated a moment before sighing. Knowing the Council, they�d already be getting ready to make a decision about what Sasuke�s punishment would be. �Yeah,� he said with a sigh. �He�s back.�

Mahina frowned slightly, her grip on her father�s hand tightening slightly. �Oh,� was all she said as an answer before letting the subject drop. She knew that she�d be safe from harm and that Sasuke wouldn�t stand a chance if he did try anything.

She just hoped that he wouldn�t be stupid enough to try anything.

fallen_angelz: Okay, I might sound a little melodramatic but there is something that I need you, the readers, to help me decide for the sake of this story! The topic: JOUNIN TEACHERS! *hears echoing* Riiigh... So who will get the coughtormentcough, I mean, honor *coughbullshitcough* of dealing with the future Hokage's kid once she becomes a Gennin? I'm torn between Neji (my muse is trying to force my hand with him by bribing me with melted white chocolate), Kakashi, Ten-Ten, Ino, and possibly Shika. The polls will be open until umm... Oh, flip, which chapter was I working on after I got back from babysitting? *checks chapter currently being written* Ah ha! Chapter twenty one so be sure to voice which one you want.
