Koiuta, Love Song
Epilogue
Shinta. Their first son.
From the first moment he opened his mouth and wailed against the cold of the outside world, Tasha had fallen in love all over again. He was sturdy for a newborn, already showing his father’s natural height in being just shy of fifty-one centimeters -- fifty-point-seven. Thin, wispy black hairs covered his head. And when he opened his eyes for the first time, she was delighted to see silver eyes.
Tasha and Shino had many debates during her pregnancy, about things like whether or not the boy should have insects implanted in him like the rest of the clan. Although it was the norm, Tasha wasn’t born in the clan; a few members were worried about that. Perhaps her body wouldn’t be able to handle it -- she could pass those genes on.
How conveniently everyone forgot that she’d had more than her body’s capacity of bugs in her at once, and survived just fine. The only real repercussion from that event had been that the insects were irritated at the lack of chakra and had bitten her.
Still, she was one-half of the parenting behind Shinta, and her opinion mattered. Shino himself was torn about it. He would never risk his son’s life, regardless of the survival chance. He worried, like most everyone else, if Shinta would inherit most of Tasha’s genes and be unable to adapt to the bugs’ presence.
In the end, though, she convinced him that the insects should be implanted in Shinta. Her thoughts were partly centered on teasing; if he was the only boy in the Aburame clan without insects, bullying would soon follow. As a woman who spent her life on the painful end of bullying, she knew.
Following the tradition, it should be that Shino would give Shinta a male bug, and Tasha would give him a female one. As she had no bugs, it was eventually chosen that Shaniko would give the female.
Shinta had no trouble adjusting to the new presence -- though he did jerk and whimper a lot for a few weeks.
By the time he was a year old, he was walking and could verbally demand either one of his parents, food, or one of his two favorite toys. When he turned five, he was included in the clan’s beginner ninja courses with three other children just his age. Like his father, he was a natural. Taller than everyone in class, and commanding more insects than them. But while he was often quiet and somewhat shy, he was never impolite.
Considering how she spoiled him, she guessed it was his father’s influence that made Shinta such a well-behaved boy. Between Tasha and Shino, Shinta always chose Tasha when he could, for whatever he needed. It was odd, but Shino seemed jealous of the attention at times -- both of her devotion to Shinta and to his preference for her.
At six, he joined the Academy. He didn’t like it, at first; both Shino and Tasha had to convince him to keep going.
Shino’s line was, “Good things come to ninja. Look at your mother and I. We never would have met if we weren’t ninja.”
Tasha’s line was, “If you don’t become a ninja, there’s just one option left. . . To open a shop somewhere.”
Shino’s talk seemed to intrigue him, while Tasha’s mortified him. Suffice to say, he kept at it. And with Tasha’s continual proddings, he began talking to the other kids there, making friends. One girl his age seemed to have developed a crush on him, though it’d only been a few months into the year.
When he was eight, he was gifted with twin sisters to watch over -- a job he took very seriously.
Tasha named them Yume and Yue. Yue was born first, and the only name she felt would fit the white-skinned newborn was the same one she had once used as an alias. Yume, born second, had felt like a dream to her, which is why she chose the name.
There were problems with her second pregnancy, thanks to having twins. At first she was unaware of carrying two babies; she simply believed she was going to have another big baby boy, like his big brother. When she was checked by a nurse and told she was carrying two, she was dumbfounded.
And from that day until she went into labor, Shino was beyond protective. He didn’t let her do a single thing by herself beyond eating with her own hands. She was belatedly grateful for the attention; at the time, she found it annoying, but once she went into labor. . .
She became so fatigued by giving birth to Yue that she had no strength left for Yume. Shino was almost in a panic, eventually getting dragged away by Shibi. Shaniko stayed with her, held her hand, encouraging her, as the doctors around talked about a cesarean section.
The familiar face of Sakura was there as well, tending to Yue in Tasha’s stead. She had been there at Shinta’s birth, and now at Yue and Yume’s. Tasha made the decision to have the other woman be her children’s godmother.
It took all night, but Yume was birthed naturally. Tasha held both her daughters for only a few moments before falling asleep. Later, when she awoke, she was pleased to find her family present. Shino and Shinta were sitting side by side beside her bed, each one holding a newborn -- Shino had Yume, Shinta had Yue. With only a look, Tasha knew this.
It amused her somewhat to find that Shinta was more moved by the appearance of little sisters than Shino was at having daughters. In the weeks and months to come, he did everything he could for his new sisters, until it became apparent that he couldn’t deal with the added stress to his already hectic training regime. Tasha then ordered him that he wasn’t allowed to watch over the girls for more than four hours a day.
This time, the debate over whether or not to introduce insects into the twins was a short one. Gender had nothing to do with the clan’s ability to use bugs; the girls were given them in the same way Shinta had been. And just like with Shinta, both girls would jerk, whimper, and sometimes scratch at themselves for a few weeks.
In a year, it became obvious that the girls were fraternal twins. Yue was a little bigger, and their faces were a little different. But they both had black hair and their father’s silver eyes, making Tasha believe that Shino’s genes were much stronger than hers.
The girls were talkative with each other, though much quieter with everyone else. They communicated mostly with gestures to Tasha and Shino and Shinta, and spoke gibberish to one another. They were also ingenious; Tasha caught them once escaping a room by Yue standing on Yume’s back to reach the door handle.
In the years to follow, they showed a talent with controlling the insects, though neither of them had many. Point of fact, they had few, compared to the others their age. They rarely separated, taking classes in the clan together until they were old enough to join the Academy.
When the girls were four and Shinta twelve, Tasha had her third and final pregnancy. A second son, named Shida, was added to the family. Shinta seemed to mature even more at the appearance of his little brother; he already considered his sisters as his charges, and now Shida was added to that category.
Shida was a carbon copy of his father, except for one detail: his eyes were a light brown. It made Tasha wonder if her own eyes were that color before the jewel had changed them.
Shida had been born even bigger than Shinta, at an exact fifty-one centimeters. That fact jabbed at Shinta’s pride, and in the years to follow, he often wore his superior height like a trophy over his little brother.
Yue and Yume were more startled and intrigued by the baby brother than anything else, though they took to showing him everything from the time he was old enough to walk. It became a common sight to see Shinta going somewhere within the clan’s walls, followed by Yue and Yume, who were both holding one of Shida’s hands between them. Every so often, Shinta was spotted with Shida in his arms, and the girls on his legs.
Even more common was the sight of Shino in the same position. The twins adored their father more than anyone else, even as they kept their quiet reserve with him. Shida’s favorite person, however, was neither of his parents, but Shinta. He made it obvious with the way he smiled wide every time he saw Shinta, reaching for him.
Following the tradition, Shida, too, was implanted with the insects. At four, his mental and physical advancement put him in training a year early, where he flourished.
During all of these events, Shino was an active Jounin of Konoha, going on missions often. He always turned them down, however, when Tasha was close to her due date. He only went on one mission in that situation, and it was only because of the importance of the mission itself requiring the best ninja the village had to offer.
Tasha stopped her training and missions for the same reason Shino had: pregnancy. To take all possible precautions, she stopped missions once she knew she was pregnant, and stopped all training once she reached the second trimester.
In the years between, she advanced to Jounin herself. She always wore the same jacket she’d received on her eighteenth birthday, and when she was out of her room, always wore her sunglasses. She was one of the clan in all but genes and bugs.
She fought with Konoha against her old home country once, forced to kill one of her ex-teammates in the process. She didn’t feel remorse for doing it, but she did feel an odd finality. It was as if she had at last severed her ties to Earth Country in committing that act of treason. She shed no tears that day.
Before Shida was born, Shino had a ninja team of his own to mentor. Tasha considered the three boys additions to the family, though she was somewhat annoyed that Shinta was two years too young to be a part of his father’s team.
She never did become reconnected with insects, leaving her positive that her affinity for the creatures had been given solely through the chakra jewel. She did, however, discover she had a natural magnetism for them. Though they didn’t come when she played her flute (which she had grown increasingly adept at), they rarely ran from her. It was common enough to return to the clan and find she had a bug holding onto her somewhere.
Shino was a little jealous of that, as well. He thought it unfair that insects just came to her, when he could only draw them in by using chakra. She teased him often that he simply wasn’t attractive enough for the bugs to come willingly to him.
This affinity was passed down to her daughters, who showed the most interest in bugs of the four siblings. It worked out well in that aspect. In truth, the girls were more like obsessed with bugs, more so than their father had ever been. When they were young, they used to mimic whatever insect they stumbled onto. Tasha caught them more than once with their arms extended, fluttering their hands like wings, crawling on the ground with elbows and knees sticking out, or pretending their fingers were antennae.
And they hated spiders and lizards and frogs.
All in all, Tasha considered her life a huge success. Once, she thought perfection was achieved through rank and power and popularity. This was proved false when she discovered the perfection of being in love. And that, too, was proven false when she discovered the love of a family of her own.
In her husband and children, she had finally achieved a perfection most could only dream of: the perfection of love.

This was added because I got reviews saying a few people wanted the story to continue. So why not add an epilogue?
