“Huh?” Kakashi blinked. “Did I flicker into the locker room again?”
“What do you mean again?”
Kakashi stunned at the sound of a familiar pissed off woman’s voice and slowly turned, “Kurenai! I can explain-“ Kakashi raised his hands in a weak attempt to protect himself from the annoyed woman who was trying to find him in the darkness.
“This isn’t the time for this.” A man said as he stepped between the two before Kurenai could find and strangle Kakashi.
“Thanks Asuma.” Kakashi whispered gratefully recognizing the man’s voice.
Asuma hummed quickly before focusing on the rest of the room, “Right now we need to think about where we are, how we got here and how to get out. Kurenai and I have been trapped here for a few minutes already and know very little besides that it’s a very small dark stone room and that chakra doesn’t work on the walls. Can you use your Sharingan to look around?”
Kakashi looked around the dark windowless abyss, “Yeah.” He lifted his headband to reveal his Sharingan and scanned the room. “I see a camera. It’s probably infrared so our captors can see us even though there are no lights at all in here and part of the wall is a tv screen. There doesn’t seem to be anything else-“ Kakashi was silenced when the screen he mentioned turned on.
“What is this?” Kurenai pondered out loud as they moved towards the screen.
“I don’t know, but I don’t like this.” Kakashi said as his blonde student, Naruto, came up on the screen looking as happy and as innocent as ever. The boy was running up to the ramen stand completely unaware that he was being taped. The person with the hidden camera slipped behind the ramen stand and hid in the back. You could just see Naruto and could hear the boy eagerly order his ramen.
“Coming right up!” The friendly Teuchi said and his daughter went to the back completely missing the hidden cameraman. She grabbed some extra ingredients and opened a bottle. After taking something out of the bottle she casually headed back to the front. The cameraman moved slightly forward to catch the pills being slipped into the very bowl that was filled with ramen and served to Naruto. The cameraman moved back and went to look at the bottle the pills came from.
“No.” Kakashi said in horror as he read the label of the bottle. It was a medicine used in interrogations to weaken a prisoner’s desire to hide information. When paired with torture it helped get results faster and works to even get that prisoner to switch sides completely. “This isn’t right …” He trailed off in complete shock . The shock was so high that he was barely aware of the genjutsu mistress gently touching his shoulder.
Asuma frowned, “Let’s not jump to conclusions.”
“Yes. The hokage might have to look into this.” Kurenai said and pulled her hand away. The screen suddenly changed ...
To their surprise they saw Danzo in front of his army of ROOT agents. It was as if they were waiting for something ...
Moments later Hiruzen Sarutobi was lead into the room, “Danzo, my good friend. How have things been going?” He asked with a cheery smile.
“Nothing new I suppose.” Danzo commented as he subtly signaled everyone to stand down.
“That so … ” Hiruzen studied Danzo’s face for a moment. “You have been trying to contact Orochimaru.”
“He was my student as well. I want to know what his side of the story is … he just never struck me as the type to use people or even attempt such horrific experiments. His banishment may have been premature.” Danzo answered smoothly keeping his one good eye on the hokage.
“It was a very thorough investigation. No stone was left unturned.” said Hiruzen with a hint of sadness supposedly for his old student.
“I have no doubt.” The ROOT leader stated calmly.
”Then why are you looking into the facilities under the mountain?” Hiruzen asked now dangerously serious.
Danzo frowned, “I see … since you are aware of that why don’t we drop the pretenses. I know what you are doing. You’re the one behind the experiments and most of the corruption in the village … what in god’s name are you planning Hiruzen?”
“What do you know? You have no proof, but the stories should be interesting to hear anyway.” The hokage smirked. A few ninjas stiffened at the complete lack of respect towards their leader where Kakashi, Kurenai and Asuma tensed at the Hokage‘s behavior.
“The clan of Uzumakis were left to their own devices during the war when you could’ve easily helped them. You attempted to make a quick buck by letting a group of Cloud ninjas try to kidnap Kushina Uzumaki and use her as breeding stock. Thankfully, that plan went south because of Minato. Speaking of … I don’t know how you convinced an Uchiha to remove the nine tailed fox, but it was your doing.” Danzo glared at his old friend’s face.
Hiruzen shrugged, “That’s quite a leap. Why would you believe I would kill the fourth hokage?” Kakashi unconsciously leaned forward to hear this. Something never sat right with him about his beloved sensei’s death. If this was true, he had to look into it.
“Simple … by the time I arrived at the barrier where Minato was sealing the fox into Naruto so I couldn’t help in time to do the sealing myself and spare an excellent hokage, but I saw you. You were just standing back waiting. I could tell you were there a while and certainly had plenty of time to break the barrier down, but you didn’t … why did you nominate Minato if you were going to kill him?” Danzo asked.
The Sarutobi sighed, “No surprise you found out … well I was hoping Minato would be easy to manipulate, but he had no problem taking up the mantel and needed no guidance. Sadly, he was quickly dismantling many of my less … legal operations. Granted he never discovered it was me, but it was only a matter of time so I made an alliance with an old acquaintance who has the same goal as mine. He gave me a very gullible fool and that fool took the nine tails out for a stroll and I trapped Minato and Kushina in the barrier leaving them no choice but to seal the demon in their son who will make a very obedient weapon to help in my goals … it would be a shame to have to fight an old friend so since me and my partner are planning on forming one entire nation under our rule how about a large plot of land in the village of Hot Water?”
A spark of anger raced through Danzo’s eyes at the attempt to bribe him, “I intend to incapacitate you, rip your memories from your skull, make a copy and get you kicked out of those robes.” All the ROOT agents surrounded the hokage who seemed too smug considering the situation …
“I’m afraid I need this position for a little while longer … shame, I would’ve liked to have you with me my old friend, but really I expected this response. You were always too into this Will of Fire and peace bullshit our senseis spouted on and on about.” The hokage sighed as the two ninjas behind him took hold of him roughly by the arms … and were promptly slaughtered by someone who appeared in the center of the room.
Kakashi’s eyes silently narrowed as Danzo’s eyes widened, “Madara … how?” The man looked just as he did years ago when he betrayed his village. That however was decades ago … he should be dead!
“I used the body of a young child and attached my soul to it. When I had the chance I took the eyes of my corpse and have been body hopping ever since.” The Uchiha founder said all to casually. All the ROOT ninjas including Danzo went on to attack. Madara just smirked as he dodged dozens of weapons.
With a set of barely visible hand signs Madara let loose a wave of fire. Once the fire died down the hokage and Madara saw Danzo was fine and saved six ROOT ninjas, “Hashirama and Tobirama trained you well … it would’ve been nice to have you on my side.”
The leader of ROOT glared, “That will never happen-” He sensed someone appear behind them, but had no chance to do anything to stop his men from being killed. With that split second of distraction Madara shot forward and slashed Danzo’s stomach wide open.
The person came out of the darkness just as Danzo fell to his knees gushing blood, “You will die for taking my sensei’s life.” Danzo’s vision started to blur, but he still saw the newcomer. It was the masked man who was seen controlling the nine tailed fox all those years ago. What the hell was he talking about? “My sensei would’ve come for me and Rin, but he didn’t. That’s because you killed him and had one of your brainwashed men pose as him.” The one eyed Uchiha removed his mask revealing himself to be none other than Obito Uchiha. Kakashi actually reached out to touch the screen where his teammate, who was believed to be dead, was.
“That’s right, Obito.” Hiruzen said sadly, but smirked at Danzo. Inoichi walked into the complex smirking too. Obito was being controlled. Danzo couldn’t believe it and neither could the horrified Kakashi.
Danzo glanced at the hidden camera in the room before shutting his eyes. Obito slashed Danzo’s throat and he fell to the floor dead.
“Now we need to do something about the Uchiha clan.” said the hokage as he stepped passed his old friend’s bloody body. The screen turned off plunging them into darkness again …
“I have to get out of here!” Kakashi yelled and powered up his chidori.
Asuma shook his head, “Calm down. We tried before and you can’t use chakra on these walls-... or not?” Asuma and Kurenai gaped as the lightning charged fist went straight through the wall easily and apparently grazing a hidden door. Kakashi destroyed the door and bolted out into the forest with Kurenai and Asuma.
“Kakashi! Wait!” Kurenai yelled.
“No! I have to get Naruto to a hospital!” A determined Kakashi yelled and picked up his pace.
“With everything do you think he’ll be treated quickly?” Asuma said pointedly making Kakashi stop and think. “You see. I don’t like it, but he isn’t treated fairly as a demon vessel. Let’s go to the Sand first and report the hokage-“
“Yeah! It’s not like the drug itself is fatal. He’ll be fine until we get to him.” Kurenai said seriously.
Kakashi took off through the trees again, “You guy’s report the hokage and I’ll take Naruto to the outpost village east of here. We can use the doctor reports as proof. After all, how else did a pair of civilians get that drug to begin with? I can use my Sharingan to make them tell us who gave it to them.”
“I’ll help.” Asuma said casting Kurenai a glance and she took off in the opposite direction. “You might need help … if this is a plot then someone may be watching Naruto.”
“You’re right. Thank yo-gah!” A spot on Kakashi’s shoulder suddenly exploded not only burning straight through the standard issue jonin jacket, but deeply burning the flesh underneath. To his disbelief Kakashi smelled gas seeping from the wound and he started feeling dizzy. “Paralytic … why?” He gasped as he felt so weak that when he tried to get away, he simply fell out of the tree and to the forest floor where a smug Kurenai picked him up.
“Now we can’t let you cause trouble for the hokage, now can we?” Kurenai smirked as Asuma landed next to her.
Asuma smiled, “Don’t worry. You’ll forget all this mess in a few minutes and be back to your old self soon-“ Both ninjas were silenced as several long sharp knives erupted out of Kakashi’s body and impaled them. They all collapsed in a bloody heap.
A few minutes passed and a dumbfounded, completely unharmed, Kakashi stepped out of the trees. “What just happened?”
