Three months came and went like storm winds. At least to Sasuke it seemed like a very short amount of time. Everything seemed to change so quickly. Naruto, or rather, Naruko, seemed to be recovering very nicely, her scars almost nonexistent. Sasuke had never been happier for his wife and she seemed equally as happy with her new look, and life.

The raven had been doing alright on his own, after declaring himself no longer a part of his family. It did sadden him sometimes though. He really did love his family and it was extremely unfortunate that things played out the way they did. However, Sasuke had gotten a call from his mother, saying that his father would like to talk to everyone in the family... including Naruko; which had surprised the raven more than he let on. He had barely had any contact with his family, with the exception of his mother on occasion so why did Fugaku want to see him now after all this time?

He currently sat in the kitchen, his cup of coffee going cold in between his hands as he thought about what they were about to get into that day. He really didn’t want to go but Naruko insisted they at least give him a chance; something Sasuke wasn’t too thrilled to agree to but did anyway because honestly, he could never deny his wife anything.

“Hey, you almost ready?” Naruko asked as she stepped into the kitchen, placing her own empty mug into the sink to wash later. When she didn’t get an answer right away, she turned to look at Sasuke and sighed, making her way over to him and laying her palm on his cheek.

“Sas… it’s going to be fine. Seriously. Your mom wouldn’t have called if it wasn’t important, you know that. I know you don’t owe your father anything, especially after what happened, but your mom… Your mom didn’t do anything wrong. She stuck up for you. For us. So we owe it to her to go.”

The raven sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. “I know... I want to go but I just don’t know what to say to him. I have so much to be angry at him for, and I am angry, I have been ever since that day he called us to his office.” He sighed and stood, taking his wife in his arms. “You’re good at cheering me up, make me feel better.”

You’re just going to keep worrying and wondering until we go there and find out what’s going on. So, let’s just go… And if you still need me to make you feel better after, I will.”

Offering her husband a smile, she leaned up on her toes and caught Sasuke’s lips in a small, but reassuring kiss. Pulling away, she grabbed her purse and ran her fingers through her chest-length hair, tugging her sweater down a bit.

Footsteps sounded not long afterwards and the door was opened by the butler, who ushered them inside.

“Your parents are waiting for you, Sir. They’re in the library.” He started walking down the hall, leading him there. When they arrived, he knocked on the door.

“Come in,” Fugaku called.

Naruko stepped closer to Sasuke as they entered and glanced at Fugaku. He looked like he’d aged since the last time she saw him.

“Sasuke, Naruto-”

Naruko cleared her throat, looking awkward. “Naruko.”

Fugaku glanced between the two of them. “Excuse me?”

“Um… well, that’s my name now. Legally, I mean. It’s been changed…”

Sasuke inwardly cringed when his father called his wife by her previous name. He knew it always made her feel awkward and this time was no different, especially with who it was coming from. He wanted to distract his father from his obvious mistake but the man spoke before he could have a chance.

“I’m not sure I understand…” Fugaku said slowly, still glancing between the two of them.

Naruko really, really, really wished she didn’t have to do this. Itachi and Mikoto were there, watching, and this was awkward enough. How the hell was she supposed to explain this?

She glanced at her husband for help but knew it really wasn’t fair to make him say it. “I’m no longer Sasuke’s husband.” She paused to see if that would do it, but nope! Their faces remained blank. Though they were always kinda blank… “I’m not his husband anymore, I’m his wife…”

They still didn’t say anything. They looked puzzled – and he’d never really seen that expression cross an Uchiha’s face.

“You were his wife before…”

Mikoto was the only one that stuck by Sasuke in the end and you should honestly be ashamed of yourself. So before you go around calling me beautiful, I expect you to apologize to your brother.”

Itachi didn’t move a muscle, even as the blond got in his face. Looking at Sasuke once more, he smirked slightly. “You know I’m sorry, right?”

Sasuke glared just as fiercely as his wife. “No... I don’t believe you. I think your bitch of a wife has rubbed off on you too much.”

Itachi raised an eyebrow at the insult but didn’t comment. Stepping around Naruko, he approached his little brother and his look softened. “I mean it... I apologize. You and Naruko have every right to be angry at me.”

Sasuke just nodded, but didn’t say anything. He believed his brother; the man only gave him that look when he was being completely open and honest with him. To say he rarely saw it was an understatement.

“Oookay, I think this has gone just as well as it possibly could have. I’m… I’m glad this could be resolved, but I want everyone here to know… If you can’t be supportive of us, there was really no point to this. Fugaku stood and met Naruko’s gaze. After a moment or two, the proud man bowed to both her and Sasuke.

“I know when I am wrong, and I am deeply sorry for what I have caused.” He straightened and placed his hand on Sasuke’s shoulder, squeezing gently, looking between them. “You have our support.”

Sasuke couldn’t help but feel his chest tightening at his father’s words. It was rare for him to show that kind of support in anything he did; that privilege always went to Itachi. So hearing it directed at him was just a bit overwhelming. “Thank you Father, that really means a lot.”

Fugaku squeezed his son’s shoulder once more before heading towards the door and disappearing into the hall.

Naruko watched him go and then turned her eyes towards Mikoto. Making her way towards Sasuke’s mom, she stooped and hugged her tightly. “Whatever you said… Whatever you did, thank you. There was only so much I could do to make him feel better, but you fixed it. So thank you.”

Mikoto stood and hugged her daughter in law properly, pulling her close. “I would do anything for my family... that includes you Naruko. “You’re right,” Naruko grinned. “We could. Though, we’d totally have to move out of this kick-ass condo. It is not child-friendly. So, let’s say after my surgery is done and we’ve worked everything out with the bar we can talk seriously about adopting.”

Sasuke smirked and kissed Naruko’s cheek, his fingertips gently caressing her side. “It sounds good to me. But I think we should keep this place... you know, for us.” His eyes gleamed with mischief as his smirk widened just a bit.

“A city getaway just for the two of us?” Naruko laughed and shook her head bemusedly. “I don’t think I could ever give up this place anyway. I’m stingy with my views. I don’t want anyone else to have the best view in the city.”

Still snickering to herself, she pulled away and went for the front closet to grab a jacket. “As much as I’d love to stay here and keep talking about our future and the amazingly cute kid’s we’re gonna have, we’re running late, Sas. We need to get going.”

Sighing, Sasuke nodded, grabbing his own jacket and headed toward the front door. “When are you going to trust Kiba to open? It’ll give us more time to be alone.” He grabbed the blond around the waist and pulled her back against him, his lips attaching to her neck, his teeth nibbling.

“When he proves he can handle it… I’ve – we’ve – worked so hard with the bar, and he’s so irresponsible sometimes… Once we move or build or whatever and open the nightclub, too… I was going to put him in charge of one of them.”

Releasing his wife after one last kiss, Sasuke opened the door and stepped out. “Fine but if he doesn’t work on it then I’ll just have to teach him personally...” He waited until Naruko was out of the condo before shutting and locking the door, heading toward the elevator a moment later.

“I’m sure Kiba would love that,” Naruko chuckled as she stabbed the button for the elevator. Stepping inside once the doors had opened; she leaned back against the wall and pulled her jacket more tightly around her.
