Hey guys
sorry this update took so long but I was on a road trip and unfortunately
couldn’t take my beloved computer with me. However, I did spend many long
traveling hours getting reacquainted with pen and paper. I also planned this as
being two separate chapters but I went over board and now it’s just one really
long one, consider it a gift because I was away for so long but a warning, it
really does suck, worst one so far.

“I know
I say this every time we get back,” said Kakashi as he landed on the ground
before the tall gates of Konoha, “but it really is good to be home.”
“Even
after being put up at a hot spring for two weeks?” Sakura queried as she landed
next to him followed by an oddly silent Sasuke and Naruto, “I find that hard to
believe, especially after seeing the “massage therapist” you met while we were
there.”
“Umm
well you see there was this kink in my neck-”
“Save
it,” Sakura said with a wave of her hand as she strode past him and headed for
the gates, “I don’t want to know about you or any of your kinks.”
“Alright
then since Sakura is being a party pooper I suppose we’ll just go deliver our
mission report to Tsunade,” Kakashi sighed dramatically and looked up at the
sky, “I'm sure she’ll find the fact that we did nothing other than sleep, eat
and have sex totally riveting.”
“Hey we
did not have sex alright!!” Naruto screeched, a blush immediately appearing to
dust his tanned cheeks in red.
Kakashi’s
visible eye widened and he looked at the blonde with mock innocence, “I never
said you did, I was simply referring to myself. What would make you think I was
talking about you; is there something you want to tell us?”
Naruto’s
blush deepened and spread to the tips of his ears as he began to shift
nervously from foot to foot, “No- no I don’t have anything to tell anyone. It’s
just that…ah…well I don’t think we need to mention what you and your new friend
did to granny Tsunade.”
“I'm
sorry Naruto but you know I can’t leave anything out of a mission report,” Kakashi
continued his teasing; “a good shinobi must always report every detail.”
“Can we
just go and deal with the report rather than standing here talking about it,”
snapped Sasuke, “I want to get home and have a shower.”
“That’s
an Uchiha for you,” said Kakashi with a devious glint in his eye as he complied
with the ravens request and began following after Sakura who had stopped to
wait for them and was now impatiently taping her foot, “cleanliness is the key
to his heart Naruto, best remember that,” he really was enjoying teasing the
volatile blonde far too much.
“Sensei
you are such a yaoi pervert,” Sakura shouted at him, “now come on you guys!”
“Alright
we’re coming,” Naruto yelled back before turning to Sasuke, “come on we’ve got
to go.”
Sasuke
regarded Naruto for a moment with cold dark eyes before walking past him as if
he hadn’t even spoken and the blonde resisted the urge to reach out and stop
him, to try and make him understand, but all he could do was follow silently,
staring at his best friends back as he remembered what had transpired between
them the night they had left the hot spring.
“Hey Sasuke can I talk to you for
a second,” at the sound of Naruto’s voice the raven looked up from where he had
been adding wood to the camp fire, “umm… alone if you don’t mind.”
Sasuke frowned suspiciously at
the blonde’s unusual request but nodded, “yeah sure, just let me finish this first
and then we’ll go get some water. We can talk then.”
Naruto nodded, his blonde locks
flopping into his eyes before he headed over to a clear space not too far from
the fire to set up his bed and as the Uchiha watched from the corner of his eye
he found himself mourning the fact that he wouldn’t have that deliciously warm
body to cuddle into tonight to fight off the cold of sleeping out in the open.
“Kakashi, Naruto and I are just
going to go get some water from that stream we saw a little while back,” Sasuke
announced as he stepped away from the sweltering fire and dusted off his pants.
“Take mine and Sakura’s water
bottles with you and fill those to,” commanded the copy ninja as he frowned
over their nights charcoal rich dinner that he was preparing and tossed Sasuke
his water bottle without lifting his head before he motioned for Sakura to do
the same.
Sasuke caught the bottle and
waited as Sakura retrieved hers before she handed it over to the blonde and
then the pair took to the trees, going back the way they had come in search of
fresh water.
“We have to be quick,” stated
Sasuke was he watched the darkness begin to bleed the colour out of the forest
around them, “I don’t want to be stumbling around out here when it gets dark.”
“Yeah sure,” said Naruto quietly,
“we shouldn’t be that far off it anyway.”
Sasuke nodded, dismissing that
line of conversation before continuing with the real reason they were out here,
“so what did you want to talk to me about? If it’s about what happened this
morning with Kakashi I don’t think you need to worry. He won’t tell anyone and
I think he’ll stop teasing us after a while.”
“Well yeah it was kinda about
that,” Naruto said, thankful that his hands were full since it stopped him from
rubbing the back of his neck, showing just how uncomfortable he was with the situation,
“let’s just get the water before we talk, Kakashi will be on our backs about
getting “distracted” if we come back without it.”
Sasuke didn’t offer a response
but quickened his pace, opting to get to the stream as soon as possible. Naruto
was acting strange and the Uchiha knew it had something to do with the
situation between the two of them and whatever it was it certainly wasn’t good.
Once Sasuke saw the glint of the
afternoon sun on water he dropped to the ground and made his way to the small
stream without bothering to look back as he heard Naruto land rather
ungracefully behind him.
The stream was pleasantly cool as
Sasuke knelt down to dip his water bottle under the surface and waited quietly
while the bubbles disappeared indicating it was full before he did the same
with Kakashi’s before turning to the blonde kneeling next to him who was
securing the cap of Sakura’s.
“So are you going to tell me what’s
wrong now or aren’t you done stalling yet,” Sasuke looked at Naruto but the
blonde didn’t return his gaze so the Uchiha simply continued to stare, knowing
that his teammate wouldn’t be able to stand the pressure of his eyes on him for
long.
The Jinchuriki put his water bottles
to the side and sat back on the small incline of the river bank and looked at
the rapidly darkening sky, still not willing to meet his best friends gaze as
he began to confess what had been haunting his mind since that morning.
“I know…I know that I said I
would try,” Naruto swallowed his heart as it slowly began to make its way into
his throat, “and I swore it on my nindo but,” the blonde groaned and turned
pleading eyes on Sasuke, willing him to understand what he was trying to say
because the words would not form in his throat. How was he supposed to explain
himself if he couldn’t even say the words.
“I don’t understand,” Sasuke said
with a little crinkle in his forehead, “if you’re feeling weird about what we
did this morning then that’s okay, I won’t push you for anything. Naruto I
thought we’d already talked about this.”
Naruto groaned and put his head
in his hands, “we did, but you don’t understand. God why is this so hard to
say, I swear I had it all figured out in my head an hour ago!”
“Because you’re being an idiot as
usual, now just spit it out dobe, it really can be that bad,” Sasuke poked
Naruto in the arm as he teased him, hoping that the light banter would ease the
blondes frayed nerves and prompt him to say what he needed to.
Naruto relished in the little
contact from the raven and it did indeed ease his nerves enough for him to take
a deep breath and confess his problems, “I really enjoyed being with you like
that this morning Sasuke and I liked sharing the same bed with you. It made me
feel safe and warm and wanted on a level that I never thought was imaginable
and maybe that was why I let things get to the point that they did this
morning.”
Naruto bit his lip and forced
himself to stare into the coal depths of Sasuke’s eyes as he spoke, “but for
now it can’t happen again. I have to talk to Kiba and sort this out, the two of
us never really had an ending, I kind of just ran away from the situation and
let it fall into the back ground, and I let you distract me which was wrong.”
“I want to do right by you
Sasuke, I want you to be more than just a distraction and I want us to have a
clean slate to work on but I can’t do that until I talk to Kiba and let him
know where we stand now. I need to take your advice and show him that what he
did was wrong and that he is lucky to have Shino and make him apologise. Not
only do I have to do this for myself but I have to do it for you. We will never
have a chance as long as this cloud is over our heads.”
Finished with his confession
Naruto focused his attention on Sasuke’s reaction but all the raven did was sit
there silently and stare into the forest behind his head, looking straight
through him and getting lost in his thoughts.
“Will you say something please,”
Naruto begged, needing to know what Sasuke was thinking regardless of whether
it was good or bad.
“So what about when I'm not just
a distraction,” Sasuke said as he pulled his eyes away from the forest, “how
will you feel then, about me?”
“I don’t know Sasuke; I don’t
even really know how I feel about you now. All I know is that I don’t want to
lose you, I can’t lose you. I don’t want to lead you on or anything, so if my
feelings change after I cut all the strings still tying me to Kiba I don’t want
to have gotten to use to use being like this. Understand what I mean?”
“Yeah Naruto I understand,” Sasuke
said darkly as he retrieved the water bottles he had filled from their place on
the ground and stood, “I understand that when we were together this morning
Kiba was still there in the back of your mind and that I was just something to
help you push him further into the background. I understand that when I asked
you if you were sure you wanted me to touch you it wasn’t you that said yes, it
was your fucking hormone and now that they’ve dissipated your regretting what
we did.”
“Sasuke please,” Naruto stood and
took the Uchiha’s hand before he could take to the trees, “I know your upset, I
get that but you have to understand I'm doing this for you too. Think of how
much harder it will be-”
“Don’t,” Sasuke shouted and
ripped himself out of the blonde’s grip, “stop trying to make this easier
because it’s just making it worse. I don’t need you to try and protect my
feelings, what I needed was for you to acknowledge them and you did, just not
the way I wanted you to, so thanks,” the last was said a whisper and it was
Sasuke’s turn to swallow his heart back into his chest as he backed away from
the tanned shinobi before him, slowly putting his walls back up as he went.
“Sasuke I'm sorry.”
Sasuke turned and jumped into the
trees, “yeah, I'm sorry to.”
Naruto watched the Uchiha retreat
back to their camp and rubbed his sleeve over his eyes to destroy the few tears
that had managed to escape before grabbing his own water bottles and making his
way back to the camp at his own pace.
How had things turned out so
terrible, how had he managed to gain the love of his best friend and then lose
it so quickly? He had thought the Uchiha would be more reasonable but clearly
that wasn’t the case.
How did a ninja who was so strong
and emotionless during battle become so emotional over the smallest things, how
did he lose it so often when it came to the people who meant the most to him.
“Damn it,” Naruto shouted to the
sky, “it’s like dealing with two completely different people, how am I supposed
to keep up with that!”
“He’s in love with you kit,”
Kyuubi chorused, “that what it does to people. It changes them and it’s not
always for the better, but think about it. Sasuke has always been like this
with you, it’s just that his mask has kept you from seeing it all these years
but now the Uchiha’s emotions are running to rampant for him to keep that façade
in place. So he’s decided to let you see, only to find that he’s regretting it
now.”
“So you think I did the wrong
thing,” Naruto asked aloud, wanting to hear the comfort of his own voice in the
silence of the now dark forest.
“No you did right by him, leading
him on would have been just like what Kiba did to you, even though it would
have been a lot less violent. Just give him some time, his emotions are fragile
and they flip and change worse than yours. He’ll forgive you eventually,”
Kyuubi was doing his best to comfort his vessel. He didn’t know why he was being
so nice but he had seen what Kiba had done to the kid and also saw that he
might have a chance at some form of happiness with the Uchiha brat he wanted to
do what he could to give him that since he had cursed every other part of his
life.
“I hope your right Kyu, Sasuke
means a lot to me. I don’t know what I would do if he decided to stop being my
friend, it would be worse than when I thought he was dead and I could barely
handle that,” Naruto shivered as the cold of night finally began to hit him, “I’m
pretty pathetic when you think about it.”
“I won’t argue with that,” Kyuubi
mumbled trying to regain some of his evil dignity, “now get yourself back to
your camp before you get lost, it won’t do to make the others believe it to.
“Naruto,”
the harsh cry of his name coupled with a hand around his wrist drew him back
into the real world to see that they had entered Konoha and that he was now
being hassled by familiar brown eyes and animalistic scent.
“Kiba?”
“Come on
I need to talk to you,” Kiba pulled at Naruto’s wrist but the blonde didn’t
move, “Naruto this is important okay and I’d rather talk privately but we can
talk here if you want.”
Getting
over his initial shock and coming back to himself Naruto wrenched his and out
of the dog ninjas grip as if his touch burnt, “no its alright we can talk, but
I have to go and deliver a mission report first.”
Kiba
stopped for a moment and took in the blonde, the way he held his wrist to his
chest and looked anywhere but his face. His skittish expression and the way he
seemed to be looking for an escape route. It was just like Shino had told him, Naruto
looked like a puppy that had been beaten to many times or a fox that was trying
to escape its hunter and if the blonde had a tail Kiba knew that it would have
been firmly planted between his legs.
“Naruto
I'm sorry,” Kiba said, shame thick in his voice, “I never should have taken
advantage of you like I did, it was wrong and I would give anything to go back
and stop myself, but I can’t.”
“Kiba we
can’t talk about this here,” Naruto whispered panicked, “please can’t this
wait?”
“No,”
the Inuzuka shook his head quickly, “I need to say this now, I'm worried that
if I leave it any longer this whole situation is just going to get worse and
its already bad enough.”
“So it
was you,” Kakashi’s voice was icy as he strolled over to the pair, his gait
doing little to hide his murderous intent, “I’ve been waiting for Naruto or Sasuke
to slip up so I could figure out the culprit and now that I have-“
“Kakashi
don’t,” Sasuke appeared behind the silver haired jonin, “Naruto is making his
own decisions, if he wants to be stupid then let him. It’s not our place to
distract him,” there was so much venom in those words that Naruto felt his
chest tighten and the tears he had repressed from days ago come back to haunt
him.
“Hey what’s
your problem Uchiha, you’ve got what you wanted right, so why don’t you take
your mightier than thou attitude and fuck off for a second,” Kiba spat at the
scowling shinobi, not realising that Sasuke’s temper was already wearing thin.
“Watch
yourself mutt,” the Uchiha said quietly, stepping around his former teacher,
“all you are is a glorified animal and I won’t hesitate to beat you like one.”
“Will
both of you please just stop it,” Naruto said stepping in between the
quarrelling shinobi trying to defuse the argument before it became physical, “Kiba
if you want to talk I’ll be at Ichirakus in about an hour but right now we have
a mission report to deliver,” the blonde turned his back on the dog ninja and grabbed
a fistful of both Sasuke’s and Kakashi’s clothes before dragging them behind
him, heading for the Hokage tower.
“You can
drag me away as much as you want Naruto,” Kakashi said calmly as if half the
street wasn’t staring at them, “I'm still going to kill him.”
“No you
not,” the blonde huffed as he let them go; “you’ll just get in trouble if you
do anything and then Tsunade will ask question and then people will find out.
Besides he got wounded during that mission, can’t we just call that karma and
move on?”
“No,”
the two said in unison and Naruto pouted.
“Fine,
whatever. Can you just promise me you won’t interfere, I'm dealing with it.”
Kakashi
scoffed, “yeah I can see that. Walking around depressed and making us all
worry, running off to Suna and using your teammate as your rebound. I pray you
tell me Naruto, what part of that is classified under you dealing with it?”
“I'm
going home,” Sasuke announced tensely, “deal with the mission report
yourselves.”
“Sasuke-”
“Leave
me alone Naruto.”
Kakashi
watched the short exchange between the two boys with a frown and once Sasuke
teleported away to escape faster Kakashi turned all this confusion to the
blonde, “you know I was only joking about the rebound thing, but I'm guessing
that Sasuke took it as more than that?”
“It’s
none of your business,” Naruto snapped as he tore his eyes away from the fading
smoke and pushed past the jonin. He decided he didn’t want to be upset anymore
so hot familiar anger had bubbled up in its place.
“It is
my business if it affects my team,” Kakashi reasoned as he followed the
trudging blonde who was trying to ignore him, “and though you may not be my
students officially anymore I still feel it’s my duty to protect you guys.
Sasuke understands that, he comes to me with his problems so why can’t you come
to me with yours?”
“Because
I go to Sasuke,” it came out without him meaning it to and Naruto had to resist
the urge to clap his hands over his mouth in an attempted to keep any other
words in.
Kakashi
snickered at his ex-students expression, “maybe so but he doesn’t seem
particularly friendly toward you right now which is confusing because a few
days ago the two of you seemed to be very friendly indeed.”
Naruto
ignored his sensei teasing comment and that was when Kakashi began to get
worried. It was a rare occasion when the fiery little fox didn’t take his bait,
“Naruto you told him he was just a rebound didn’t you,” the jonin deadpanned his
voice laced with disappointment.
“No,”
Naruto cried turning on him, “I never said the word rebound at all. I thought
he would understand, he said he would wait.”
“And he
did wait, for quite some time while he watched you make bad decisions,” Kakashi
dropped his voice as he noticed they were nearing the tower and that Sakura had
stopped to wait for them before heading inside, “he didn’t force you into that
like Kiba did, did he?”
“What are
you serious?” Naruto clearly hadn’t realised his surroundings as Kakashi had,
“Sasuke would never do something like that to me!”
“So you initiated
it and he gave you what you wanted,” Kakashi mussed, “I don’t see a problem if
both of you are happy with one another, it’s clear there is a great deal of
trust between you, after all you don’t just let anyone near such a sensitive
and precious area.”
“I told
Sasuke I wasn’t sure how I feel about him, that after I talk to Kiba that my
feelings could change,” Naruto said cutting off the perverted rant that he just
knew was coming, “I said that I let him distract me form all the problems I was
having.”
“You
sought comfort in him,” Kakashi said in a soft tone that was quite unlike him,
“he was safe and you think that you maybe misunderstood that for a deeper
feeling?”
Naruto nodded
and fiddled with the zipper on his jacket as he finally realised that they were
at the Hokage tower and turned his attention to the stairs, knowing if he
didn’t focus he would trip, “that’s what I'm afraid of.”
Kakashi
spared Sakura a glance and with her female intuition she understood and hurried
off ahead, giving them the privacy they needed, before he stopped Naruto in
their accent, deciding the Hokage could wait just a little while longer for
their completely uneventful report.
“I
understand where you’re coming from Naruto, no one can be expected to fall in
love with someone overnight, that only happens in fairy tales but I have a
question for you. What do you think love is?” Kakashi leaned against the railing
of the stairs as he watched the Jinchuriki mull over the question to a point
where the copy ninja swore he could see the cogs turning.
“I-I
guess I really don’t know what love is,” Naruto said quietly after a little
while, “Kiba used to tell me that he loved me but I know now that he was lying,
but I guess being in love would make you feel warm and safe and wanted. If you
loved someone you would do anything to make them happy, even if that meant
sacrificing your own happiness and you’d do that because seeing them hurt just
hurts you.”
“And now
compare that to how you feel when you are with Sasuke, not just sexually but
when you’re talking and training,” Kakashi smiled as he watched realisation
dawn on the blondes face, lighting his features with hope, “you see Naruto, you
might just love him and if you never take the risk because you are too afraid
of what will change then you’ll regret it.”
“So what
do I do now?” Naruto asked, praying that fate would lay the answers out before
him for once.
“I can’t
tell you that Naruto,” said Kakashi as he began to make his way up the stairs
again deciding that the blonde had been sufficiently counselled, “you have to
do what you think is right. Follow your heart; you’ve always been very good at
that, even when your head is screaming at you to do otherwise and besides I'm
no expert on love. Still if I ever found that there was a possibility of
finding it with someone I would hold onto it with both hands and try to make it
work, regardless of the risks, but hey that’s just me.”
At that
advice Naruto began to move as well but not up the stairs with Kakashi, he
started running back down them at full tilt yelling over his shoulder, “great
advice Kakashi sensei. Tell granny Tsunade I'm sorry for not coming to the mission
report but like you said I have to follow my heart.”
Kakashi
opened his mouth to call the blonde back but he was already and orange blur in
the distance and the silver haired jonin smiled ruefully beneath the cloth of
his mask. I guess I can take Tsunade’s
anger for you just this once, just don’t screw this up and make me regret it.
***
“I don’t
see why I have to be here,” Shino said as Kiba ushered him toward Ichirakus,
“or why we have to be here so early if you’re not supposed to be meeting him
for an hour.”
“Because
you are just as much a part of this as anyone else,” Kiba reasoned, “besides I
want you to see that I really mean it when I say sorry. I tried to before but
he seemed spooked by just the sight of me and then Kakashi came over and Sasuke
threatened to beat me into a pulp and it just went downhill.”
“You
deserve anything Sasuke decided to dish out to you,” Shino said stuffing his
hands into his pockets with a little glare, “I really didn’t want to see Naruto
so soon, not after what happened the last time I tried to talk to him.”
“Yeah I
figured it might feel a little weird for you but then again this might be a
chance for you and Naruto to feel united against a common enemy and thus
beginning to repair your friendship,” Kiba tried to make a joke of it but
backed down once he felt the slightly murderous aura radiating off of his
boyfriend.
“I don’t
like you describing yourself as my enemy,” Shino growled, “as a shinobi I tend
to kill my enemies.”
“Okay
fine I'm not your enemy but that’s not the point,” Kiba said, running a
frustrated hand through his messy brown hair.
“Then
what is the point of me being here Kiba,” Shino turned on his boyfriend and
only just managed to keep his voice calm.
“To see
this!”
Both
Shino and Kiba turned at the unexpected shout but soon Kiba was on the ground
with blood pouring out of his nose where Naruto had punched him in the face.
“What
the hell Naruto,” Kiba shouted in a nasally voice as he glared up at the blonde
through watering eyes as he held his nose, “what the fuck was that for!”
“It was
because you’re a fucking jerk Kiba.” Naruto shouted back just as loudly with
his hands planted firmly on his hips, “and you should be lucky that’s all you’re
getting. If I wasn’t so worried that Sasuke and Kakashi would get in trouble
over your worthless arse I would let them tear you a new one!!”
Kiba looked
at Naruto as if he had grown a second head. Here he was, in the middle of a
crowded street yelling at him about their private problems that only half an
hour ago he had wanted to keep secret from the entire world.
“I can’t
believe I ever let you come in between me and Sasuke, I meant I could have just
ruined whatever chance I have at real love with him because I wanted to settle
things with you first,” Naruto threw his hands into the air at his own
stupidity, “I should have just left you in the dark about it all like you did
to me all those times and then maybe you would have some idea how it feels.”
“I
trusted you Kiba, I trusted you with every secret I’ve ever had and all you did
was spit in my face and pretend like you cared about me for long enough to get
what you wanted,” Naruto turned away from the Inuzuka sitting in the dirt, “but
I suppose you’re not the only one to blame. Maybe Sasuke was right all those
times he called me an idiot, but still,” the blonde turned and kicked Kiba in
the shin, “you just don’t do that kind of shit to people!!”
“And
Shino, what the hell? I deserve better? You fucking deserve better than this stupid
dog faced loser,” Naruto grabbed Shino’s shoulders and shook him, “I get what you’re
trying to do. You think that he’s going to change and maybe, just maybe your
love for him is enough but after seeing what he did to me are you really willing
to take that chance with your own body and your own heart?”
“N-Naruto
I…” Shino blinked at the blonde through his glasses. Never in his life had he
been too startled to form words but it seemed that the blonde in front of him
had somehow stolen his voice box and he was now left gapping like a fish out of
water.
Blue
orbs flickered back and forth across Shino’s face, looking for some kind of
answer but all he saw was a confusion of emotions some of which Naruto himself
couldn’t even recognise, “I know you love him and I wish I could believe that
it was enough. I want to believe that it’s enough so you can be happy with
him.”
“I am-I
am happy with him,” Shino managed to stutter out, “and I do…I do love him, very
much. More than I should, maybe more than anyone should but that’s what love is
right. Caring for someone more than yourself, even if it means being totally
blind to how much of a horrible person they are. Isn’t love being able to see
past those things to see the things that make you happy and willing to stick by
those things when everything else seems to be going to hell?”
Shino
gave Naruto a sad little smile, “just like you and Sasuke. Even when he was running
away to Orochimaru and hurting all of us because of it you stuck by him. You
saw past the bad to the good that you knew was there and that was all that
mattered to you. You didn’t care about your own feelings or the consequences of
your actions, you just charged after him screaming his name.”
Naruto
looked at his feet then, “But we were only friends then, it’s different.”
Shino
laughed then, really laughed as he placed a hand on the top of the blondes head
and ruffled his hair affectionately, “Sasuke is right you know, you really are
an idiot, but you know what he is too. Sure maybe you might have been just
friends then but there was always something else between you two, something
beyond the borders of friendship. I mean everyone knows about Sasuke throwing
himself in front of senbon for you and nearly dying and I get that comrades are
supposed to protect one another but he didn’t even like you, in fact he hated
you…or so we thought. All I'm saying is that we aren’t so different when it comes
to love. We’re both totally blind!”
“I don’t
understand Shino.” Naruto looked at his friend helplessly.
“That
doesn’t surprise me. What I'm saying is that I'm happy with Kiba, he’s the one
that makes me look past the fact that he’s an arrogant prick and I might be
making a mistake in staying with him after this but that’s my choice to make
and I'm making it because…well the only reason I can think of is that I love
him. And you, I think you need to be prepared to take the same risk with
Sasuke.”
“Shino,
I’ve never heard you talk like that before, hell I’ve hardly heard you talk
before at all,” Naruto tried to lift the mood with his little joke and he realised
it worked when Shino pulled him into a quick slightly awkward hug.
“And I
don’t suspect you ever will again but I had to say it,” the bug ninja said as
he realised the blond before going over to pick up his boyfriend who was still
sprawled on the ground but was making a valiant attempt to clean all the blood
from his face, “now I want you to take into account what I’ve just said and go
find Sasuke, tell him everything you feel and everything you have ever felt and
if he doesn’t want to listen then kick his arse until he does, I'm sure you of
all people can handle that.”
Naruto
nodded briskly if a little nervously before he turned his attention back to Kiba,
“I'm not really sure I’ve gotten my point across with you yet, punching you in
the face felt awesome but there is still this part of me that feels like you’ll
always be hanging over my head.”
Kiba had
enough shame to avert his eyes to the ground at the blonde’s confession, “I
think that feeling will be there for a little while Naruto and I'm really
sorry, but I want to do what I can to try and make it better, I will even buy
you ramen.”
“It’s
going to take more to make things better than ramen Kiba,” Naruto growled, “and
I don’t really have time now anyway, I have to go and see Sasuke and make sure I
haven’t ruined absolutely everything with him because of your stupid arse and
my own stupid cowardice.”
“Okay
then,” Kiba nodded, “but my offer still stands, I will buy you ramen whenever
you want and will you do me a favour and tell Sasuke something for me,” Kiba
watched the suspicion flicker across the blondes features but he didn’t say no
so Kiba continued, “tell him that next time I see him in the practice grounds
it’s a fight between us, he deserves to have his chance to kick my arse just as
much as you do.”
Naruto
began backing away in the direction of Sasuke’s home with a sadistic grin
splitting his face, “he’s going to annihilate you, you know that?”
Kiba
didn’t bother with a response, just watched Naruto slip away and leaned into
Shino, this was the closest they had been in weeks and he was enjoying the
physical contact.
“We are
having sex tonight,” Shino stated simply and watched Kiba’s expression turn
form utter disbelief then to suspicion then to overwhelming satisfaction, “and
I'm topping.”
Shino
grinned as he watched his boyfriend’s expression change again.
***
“So I
take it operation Naruto and Sasuke have hot sex and live happily ever after is
a no go then,” Ino mused as she leaned against the wall of Sasuke’s kitchen and
watched the sullen raven as he sat hunched over a cup of tea after recounting
the events of the last two weeks.
“Ino I
thought I told you to stop calling it that,” Shikamaru mumbled and shook his
head at the overzealous and totally tiring girl before him.
“Yeah I
know, just wanted to say it one more time is all, and besides, I put a lot of
planning into getting those two together so I should be able to call it
whatever I want,” Ino pouted and crossed her arms over her chest, just daring
Shikamaru to try and start an argument with her.
“You’re
being insensitive,” the Nara reached up and tightened his ponytail. Really this
was just one gigantic mess that seriously could have been avoided if he had
have taken into account Naruto’s tendency to overreact and blow everything out
of the water but he had wanted to give the blonde the benefit of the doubt with
this one.
Really, thought Shikamaru as he rolled
his eyes at himself, I can’t be much of a
genius now can I, I let Naruto and Mr. emotionally retarded here be in control
of their own love life.
“It’s
alright Shikamaru,” Sasuke said quietly as he tightened his grip on his cup,
relishing in the warmth seeping through the fine white china, “you guys did put
a lot of effort into helping us, I'm sorry you wasted your time.”
“It
wasn’t a total waste,” Ino said nonchalantly, “the meeting we had to organise
things was actually kind of fun.”
Sasuke
looked up then in disbelief, “you guys had a meeting, just how many people were
involved in this plan?”
Ino made
a show of counting on her fingers before giving her best please don’t kill me
smile and answering truthfully, “everyone.”
Sasuke
turned a glare on Shikamaru and the Nara shrank back, worried that the Uchiha
was about to release all of his pent up anger and tension right then and there
but was saved by someone furiously knocking on the raven’s front door.
“Sasuke
open up!!”Naruto’s voice was muffled but it was clear that the blonde wasn’t
going away until the door was opened for him and that fact only became clearer
when the knocking picked up force.
Ino
looked at Shikamaru with a gleam in her eyes and the genius was instantly more
afraid of her than Sasuke, “I don’t know what you’re thinking but whatever it
is NO.”
Ino gave
a short laugh that said just try and stop me before she all but leapt over the Uchiha’s
counter and grabbed Shikamaru’s arm before proceeding to drag him into the
living room and toward the front door and throwing it open to see the blonde
with his and positioned in mid knock and a stunned look on his face.
“Shikamaru?
Ino?” Naruto’s brow furrowed in a little frown, “what are you guys doing here?”
“What
are we doing, well we’re leaving that’s what,” Ino pushed past Naruto and
dragged the Nara behind her before turning back to the blonde and giving him a
little shove so he tumbled over the threshold into the ravens home, “Sasuke’s
just in the kitchen Naruto. See you later.”
Shikamaru
watched fascinated as the blonde konoichi slammed the door to the Uchiha’s home
only to press her ear up against the wood in an attempt to eavesdrop and when
she noticed him staring she sighed, “are you going to join me or not?”
“No, of
course I'm not going to join you,” Shikamaru shoved his hands in his pockets
and began to walk away, “not when I can go and take a nap now and have you fill
me in later.”
Ino
smiled and tried to hide her little yip of joy as she returned her ear to the
door. Alright! Operation Naruto and Sasuke
have hot sex is back on!!
Back
inside the home however thing were not so cheery. As soon as Naruto had gotten
over his shock of seeing Shikamaru and Ino greeting him he had turned toward
the kitchen only to freeze when coal eyes zeroed in on him and he noticed that Sasuke’s
mask as well as all of his walls were firmly back in place. All the walls that
he had somehow managed to get through without even trying. He knew that this
time getting through them wouldn’t be so easy.
“What are
you doing here?” Sasuke’s voice made Naruto flinch, it was how it was when he
used to talk to him, when Naruto had been little more than the dirt on the bottom
of his shoe, “shouldn’t you be delivering the mission report and meeting up
with Kiba?”
“I
skipped out on the report and I’ve already talked to Kiba,” Naruto held up his
hand to Sasuke and showed him the little bit of dried blood smearing his
knuckles, “it felt good to dish out some of what I’ve been getting lately.”
Sasuke’s
eyes widened just a fraction of an inch but otherwise he didn’t react, still Naruto
knew the action for what it was. The Uchiha was intrigued, but he wouldn’t ask
for more information, he would wait for him to get to it on his own.
But I'm not here to talk to you
about that Sasuke, Naruto
thought just a little maliciously at foiling Sasuke, I'm not here to talk about Kiba.
“So I
was stupid,” Naruto started slowly down the path of the conversation, “really
stupid, I let that stupid dog get in the way when all I should have been
worrying about was us and I really ruined things with you.”
“Yeah
you did,” Sasuke said coldly and his eyes got impossibly harder, “is that all
you came here for, to confirm your own stupidity or were you just looking for
something to distract you again?”
“No!”
Naruto shouted then shoved a hand through his hair in frustration, “look Sasuke
you know me better than anyone, you know that I have a tendency to stick my
foot in my mouth and say the wrong things. I suppose what I'm trying to say is
I didn’t mean it.”
“Get
out,” Sasuke hissed.
Naruto
blinked owlishly at the Uchiha before him, “what?”
“Out.
Now,” Sasuke commanded.
“What,
hey Sasuke hold on a minute I'm trying to talk to you about this, don’t be such
a jackass,” Naruto could feel himself getting irritated now and he knew it
would only be a matter of time before he lost it.
“No you’re
just trying to weasel your way out of the mistake you made,” Sasuke turned his
gaze to the window, “you didn’t mean it, seriously how stupid do you think I
am.”
“Hey at
least I'm not running off and joining ANBU, I'm standing in front of you trying
to face my problems,” it was a low blow and Naruto knew it but he couldn’t help
the little smirk that curled his lips.
His
little victory however was short lived as he soon found himself backed up into
a wall with Sasuke snarling in his face, “Get out before I make you leave.”
“I'm not
going anywhere, not until you understand,” Naruto met Sasuke’s challenge with
determination shinning in his eyes. He was not going to back down from this,
not even if Sasuke beat the hell out of him, he would just some back when he
was better.
“Just
remember Naruto,” Sasuke closed his eyes for a second and Naruto shivered as he
felt Sasuke’s chakra spike before he realised that when the Uchiha opened his
eyes it would be the pinwheels of the Sharingan he was seeing, not the deep
black pools he sometimes found himself getting lost in, “you asked for this.”
“So did
you,” with that said Naruto threw himself and the Uchiha, wrapping his arms
around his middle and tackling him to the ground.
Sasuke’s
flew open and he affixed the blonde with his whirling gaze as he kicked him off
before rolling away to try and get some distance only to feel several orange
clad arms wrap around him when he stood, effectively trapping him in shadow
clones.
“What
the hell, you didn’t even-“
“I had
them standing by,” Naruto explained as he straightened his clothes, “now will
you just calm down and listen to me?”
“Nope,”
the whisper in his ear made the blonde jump and he vaguely registered the poof
of Sasuke’s substitution jutsu realising before he was pressed face down into
the carpet with the real Sasuke on top of him.
Naruto
struggled vainly but he knew he was beat. The two of them were pretty evenly matched
when it came to taijutsu but Sasuke’s style was so much smoother than his and
could be used for little tussles like this. His style was more brutal and not
matter how much Sasuke was annoying him Naruto didn’t really want to hurt him too
badly. And that bloody Sharingan. Argh, talk about fighting dirty.
“You
know you can beat me like this,” Sasuke said as if reading his mind, “so if I
let you up will you leave?”
“I was
afraid Sasuke,” Naruto confessed, deciding now was as good a time as any to
start trying to explain himself to the raven, “you weren’t a distraction, I
don’t know why I ever used that word. It’s just that you felt so safe and I
felt so loved and wanted with you and I was worried that maybe I only felt that
way with you because we’re friends and I trust you more than anything,” the
blonde shifted against the weight about him and grimaced when Sasuke twisted
his arm a little, “I didn’t want to realise that, that was all it really was too
late and risk hurting you even more than I did. I really thought that what I
was doing was for the best, please Sasuke you have to believe me.”
“And
what changed your mind, what brought you back to me,” the voice above him was
so wary that it hurt the blondes heart to hear. So much trust had been lost
between them and it was his fault.
“I
realised that I don’t really know what love is, Kakashi asked me if I knew what
it was and I did my best to tell him and he asked me to compare it to how I
felt when I was with you, both normally and the special way and I realised that
they were the same. Then I ran into Shino and he told me about how he sees love
and I compared that to us to and it fit, so isn’t what I feel for you love?”
“No its
not, I have to decide my own way to love you, I have to be willing to take the
risk with our friendship, something that I cherish and am so afraid of losing,
knowing that if things go wrong I can never get it back. I love you like a
friend Sasuke, I know how to do that but as for loving you as something more I
have no idea.”
Naruto
winced in relieved pain as Sasuke’s weight vanished and his muscles and joints
went back to their normal positions as he sat up and was finally able to look
at the Uchiha next to him, “but I’ve decided Sasuke. I’ve never been a coward
before with anything, not even my own life and so why should this be any
different. There’s just as much at stake. So I have decided we are going to go
on a date.”
“We’re
what?” Sasuke was shocked to say the least and he could have sworn he heard
someone fall over on the other side of his front door.
“A date,”
Naruto said with a grin splitting his face, “like normal people do when they
like someone, but not right now though, Kiba owes me ramen.”
Sasuke
growled as Naruto started to get up and grabbed his wrist and pulling the
blonde back to his side, “your fucking ramen can wait.”
“Sasuke
what-” Naruto’s question was cut off however as the raven crashed their lips
together with a painful force that had their teeth clashing.
“Only
you, only you could get afraid and distraction confused,” Sasuke said when he
finally allowed Naruto to breathe, “but I suppose I might have over reacted a
little,” the Uchiha let the blonde go but Naruto stayed inside his personal
space of his own accord, “I fucked up royally as well.”
“So you
get it then,” when Sasuke nodded Naruto felt as if he was going to faint with
relief, “kiss me again.”
Sasuke
sucked a breath in through his teeth, “I can’t do that, if I kiss you now one
thing will lead to another.”
“So let
them,” Naruto was aware of the fact that he was sounding a little sluty but he
didn’t care, he was too high on the fact that Sasuke was now his and that there
was nothing hanging over them anymore, “you don’t have to wait anymore.”
“No Naruto,
I can’t,” Sasuke said shaking his head, “I'm going to woo you properly first. You
said you don’t know what love is; well I think I have some form of an idea so I'm
going to do my best to show it to you.”
“Why do
you have to be so noble,” Naruto grumbled before pressing his lips to Sasuke’s
neck in an attempt to get the ravens mind onto his trail of thought, “but after
I'm wooed right, and as the wooie I get to decided right?”
Sasuke
sighed as the blonde travelled upward to nibbled on his earlobe, “I-I guess so,”
the raven felt Naruto smile against his skin and immediately knew he had just
fallen into a trap.
“Well
its only noon,” Naruto said as he pulled away from Sasuke’s neck and stood
before becoming the Uchiha to do the same, “I think a day is more than enough
for the great Sasuke Uchiha to impress upon me his wooing skills.”
“Naruto I'm
serious,” Sasuke scowled at the blonde as he stood, “I don’t want this to be
some torrid thing all about self-satisfaction.”
“And you
said I get to choose when I'm wooed,” Naruto countered, “you’re lucky I'm even
giving you today, after all the crap that’s gone on your lucky I don’t ravish
you right now. Beside, I’d say I'm about halfway wooed already,” Naruto changed
his tactics then, knowing what would get Sasuke to play into his plot, “but if you’re
not up to the challenge, I understand.”
“So you
said you wanted ramen right?”
Naruto
grinned as Sasuke took his hand and pulled him out the door before heading
toward town, worked like a charm.
