----------The Ninja Academy---------
Not bothering to knock Naruto stormed into Iruka's office (he'd gone to his apartment first before remembering that school was almost over). “Iruka-sensei, do you know where Kakashi-sensei is?” the fox-boy asked without preamble.
Iruka glanced at his current class of mischievous ninjas-to-be and blushed profusely. He then caught Naruto up by the ear and hauled him out of the class room and into the hallway beyond shutting the door behind him. “Those students didn't need to know that, Naruto....” he growled a little but then answered almost immediately afterwards. “He's in the teacher's lounge with Kurenai and Asuma, probably trying to convince them to get together in his own subtle ways... why?”
Scowling as he rubbed at his offended ear Naruto answered, “'Cause I need to ask him if he knows where Sasuke is.”
“Here then...” he handed Naruto a small wooden token. “You'll be able to get in there even though you aren't staff...” he stated and ruffed Naruto's hair with a thumbs up and a smile before heading back into the classroom.
“Sankyuu!” Naruto made a dash for the teachers' lounge and again didn't bother with knocking. “Kakashi-sensei, do you know where Sasuke is?”
Kakashi looked irritably at Naruto for interrupting his matchmaking. “You're not allowed in here.”
Asuma and Kurenai just watched, deciding to leave the handling of Naruto to Kakashi.
“Yes, I am. Iruka-sensei gave me a pass,” Naruto shot back. “And technically neither are you 'cause you don't work here. Do you know where Sasuke is?”
“He's Resting,” Kakashi answered, hoping that Naruto would leave quickly. “He's going to be asleep for the next month. And as to where he is he's somewhere in the Uchiha estate.”
“A MONTH?!” Naruto yelped. He had to wait another month?!
“Yes, a month.” Kakashi gave Naruto a pointed look. He wanted to get back to hooking Asmua and Kurenai up.
Naruto visibly deflated. “...Oh... Okay. Thanks, Kakashi-sensei.” He left a lot more quietly than he'd come in. “Teenagers...” Kakashi grumbled before smiling at his friends. “Now... Where was I?”
----------That night----------
“Iruk~~~~~a....” Kakashi whined pathetically as he got in his lover's way of making dinner. “Why did you tell Naruto where I was?”
“He looked like it was important and he said it was about Sasuke...” Iruka answered mildly and waited for Kakashi to move. “I'm cooking you dinner... don't make me burn it please...”
“Couldn't it have waited until I'd talked Asuma into proposing...?!” Kakashi continued to get in his way. “And you're not gonna burn anything because you never burn anything.” He grinned in playful challenge.
“That's because I don't let you get away with harassing me while I cook...” he said and stopped trying to get around Kakashi. He then answered, “The boy's had a harder life than any of us could have predicted... I think right now... since he's desperate to find his best friend... that he should have all the help he can get. You didn't see him when he came to me demanding to know where you were. I couldn't not tell him...”
“Bet you blushed in front of the whole class,” Kakashi teased, his grin getting wider.
Proving Kakashi's point Iruka blushed at the silver-haired Jounin's comment and wrinkled his nose a little, as much as he could with the scar there. “So what... it's not like you don't practically announce it to all of the Jounins in Konoha. They can always tell when you've been "around Iruka" as they put it... just by the "extra bounce in your step" and "sass in your jokes", as Atsuki puts it...”
“Atsuki talks too much... but for once she's right,” Kakashi purred as he pulled Iruka close for a deep kiss. “No day is a good day until I've seen you,” he murmured against his lover's lips.
Iruka sighed against Kakashi's mouth, his lips parting slightly. Everything about Kakashi caught him off-guard and yet was so familiar and comforting at the same time. It was hard to explain the mixed up feelings that coursed through him at random whenever the Jounin either was or was not around. Most of them were centered on Kakashi... sometimes the emotions focused elsewhere, but these days that was rare.
“What do you say we skip dinner and go straight to desert, hm?” Kakashi purred as he trailed his mouth along Iruka's jaw, heading for his neck. His hands began to slowly knead the Chuunin's sides.
Automatically, his head tilted exposing his throat to Kakashi's questing mouth. “I -…” he stammered a little, floundered for a reason to keep dinner going and to eat it, but in the end it came down to the fact that he couldn't really think anyway. And it was so easy to reach around behind Kakashi and turn the stove off. A simple turn of the knob and the click of it shutting off sounded softly behind the former-Anbu's back. “Desert... sounds really good...” he finally managed.
Not needing any more encouragement Kakashi captured Iruka's mouth in another deep, passionate kiss as he scooped him up. It didn't take long for them to get to the bedroom and begin a long night of ravishing each other.
----------A Month Later----------
Naruto nervously walked past the entrance gate of the Uchiha estate after a quiet lunch with Sakura. He had to find Sasuke. He still had no idea as to what he was going to say to him but... after a month of thinking and talking to his heart-sister he decided he was at the very least going to try and be friends with Sasuke at the least. He was still afraid of being hurt more, however he decided that the risk was worth it if it ended with him having his best friend once again. Naruto took a deep breath and began to search the estate for Sasuke, using Kyuubi as a kind of radar.
The darkness that had surrounded him, enfolded him, embraced him and empowered him, pulsed once and then began to recede before a mixing of the senses. He smelled the yellow light of the sun, tasted the rich presence of someone special, and - the only straight emotion he received - he felt the churning emotions of whomever had invaded the ghostly premises of the long dead Uchiha clan. “Naru... to...” The words came from a parched throat and were barely a whisper but it brought the stirrings of wakefulness to his conscious mind. The sun was still up, his instincts told him, but on the other hand the rest of him insisted he be awake for Naruto might come to find him... unless he was dreaming again... Pushing that thought aside he struggled against the deathly stillness his body preferred at this time of day.
A man in a long black coat with red clouds held out an arm to stop his companion, who wore the same coat and a long, wide sword on his back. He looked down into the streets from his vantage point on the roof and smirked to see what he had come for walking straight towards them. “Look, Kisame,” Itachi said softly.
Shark-like eyes turned to the ground following his companion's gaze and the evil smile that spread his lips stretched the gill-like marks on his grey-skinned cheeks. “Well, what do you know...” came the soft and wickedly toned reply. “What do we do?” he asked then, still keeping his voice really soft. Kisame trusted Itachi to make the best decisions in almost all instances.
“He's looking for something... Let's watch him and see what he finds,” Itachi ordered, taking a few steps backwards to get out of the range in which Naruto sensed others, but not so far that he couldn't see him.
Kyuubi led Naruto through the winding, empty streets of the small ghost town that used to hold one of the most powerful clans in Konohagakure. There were a few very frustrating moments when the fox seemed to want to pull him in two different directions. And then he sensed it. Itachi took just a half-second too long to get out of his range and Naruto stopped dead in his tracks. ::Not again... Not now!!::
“Come out, bastard! I know you're there!” Naruto called out, determined to get this over with so he could find Sasuke.
“Go drain him,” Itachi commanded Kisame.
The former ninja of Kirigakure nodded. Then he moved. He was on top of Naruto before the boy really knew what had hit him... his Samehada swathing the air about Naruto rapidly. The giant sword wriggled to life within its wrappings and sucked hungrily at Naruto's Chakra supply, viciously seeking to drain as much as possible from the prize.
The sudden shift in everything around him told him two things. One made his blood boil, the other made it turn to boiling acid. Naruto's emotions were both frustrated and a little worried, but it was the sudden drain of Naruto's power level that got Sasuke on his feet before he even realized he was moving. The sudden presence of his brother.... made Sasuke want to damn the sunlight and go rip something's throat out then and there. He'd been one and a half months without a meal... not even animal blood. He was both ravenous and enraged at what he could only Feel and Sense going on Out There, where he couldn't go... Still groggy he staggered and swayed towards the door, not sure why but feeling the need to get as close to the exit as possible.
“Nanda?!” Naruto back-pedaled quickly to get away from that damn sword, but not before he'd already lost most of his own chakra. Once he was far enough that the sword wasn't draining him anymore he quickly drew from Kyuubi's chakra supply. He had to get away. He had to get away and FAST! But before he could begin the seals for a massive Kage Bunshin something pressed the nerve cluster on the side of his neck, making him black out.
Itachi calmly caught Naruto as he began to crumple to the ground, a small smirk on his face. He finally had the power of the Kyuubi Kitsune in his hands. Nodding to Kisame he tossed Naruto over his shoulder and jumped easily to back to the roof.
Grinning vilely, Kisame followed. They'd finally succeeded in their mission. The Akatuski would be quite pleased. Hell he alone was pleased. “Finally...” he murmured eyeing the limp bundle of eye-smarting orange and yellow hanging limply over Itachi's slender shoulder as they turned and headed back the way they had come.
Sasuke's senses were beginning to come to him faster now, though he would not truly start to function until dusk. He didn't know how he'd gotten to his feet and to the door but he could certainly feel the focus of his drive getting farther and farther away and then Naruto's presence was gone completely as - he assumed - his bastard of a brother teleported to save time. Fists like those of a demon hit the wall before him and he screamed, at the absolute top of his vampiric lungs, the one thing that mattered to him in this world. “NARUTO!!!”
