Sasuke sat in the room where Naruto had been previously. They had paid for a private room for Naruto’s recovery and Sasuke was glad they did. He had really not wanted to sit in a waiting room full of people who were also worrying about loved ones.

He wasn’t sure how much time had passed but his mind was a whirlwind of thought. What was going to change after the surgery? It was obvious that this was a major step for the blond and Sasuke wasn’t quite sure how to handle it. Would he be calling the man his husband or his wife now? He had already started doing that, at least in public. He had been introducing Naruto as his wife when they’ve gone out or when the blond had some sort of business meeting for the bar. But what about at home? He just wasn’t sure what was going to happen.

Gradually the heaviness began to lift. A pair of blue eyes blinked open, glassy and unfocused and a quiet gasp sounded through the room.

The first thing Naruto became aware of was that it felt like a boulder was sitting on his chest, crushing him.

A wave of nausea hit him like a ton of bricks and he gagged, his stomach muscles clenching which sent pain flaring throughout his body.

“Naruto, if you’re going to be sick, I’ve got a bedpan here.”

His eyes flicked to the right and he thought the recognized the nurse that had wheeled him from the room. He didn’t get any time to dwell on that, as the nausea came back in full force and his stomach lurched. He managed to tilt his head to the side at the last second before he vomited.

“We’ll give you something for your stomach. It’s a common thing, really. But how’s your pain? Are you hurting?”

Naruto opened his mouth to answer but no words came out. He panted, which only made the pain even worse. “Y-Yes…” he croaked before he threw up again.

“On a scale from 1-10, 10 being unimaginable pain, how are you feeling?”

The blond thought about it for a second. He’d always hated that question and he wasn’t sure how to answer… But he was really, really hurting. “Six… O-Or… Seven…”

“I’ll get you something. Your husband is here, Naruto. He’s sitting right beside you. To your left.”

Naruto turned his head weakly and blinked, trying to focus. All he could see was a dark blur.

“Sas?” he whispered; his voice sluggish and rough.

Sasuke’s hand held tightly to Naruto’s, his eyes filled with tears but he really didn’t want to let them fall. It was surprisingly very emotional and he had no idea he’d react that way. “Hey baby... I told you I’d be here when you woke up.”

Naruto blinked again, but still couldn’t quite see properly. He did hear Sasuke’s voice, though, and that calmed him down. “It… hurts…” he whimpered, squeezing weakly at his husband’s hand. “Hurts…”

The nurse returned a moment later with two different medications. One for his nausea and a strong painkiller to manage his pain. She administered both and then excused herself after checking Naruto over again, telling Sasuke to press the call button if he needed help.

Once they were alone, Sasuke couldn’t help but let the tears fall. He had talked with Minato while he had waited for Naruto to get out of surgery and the older man basically told him that he wouldn’t be helping anyone by bottling up how he felt, especially with his own husband. So he let them go in the privacy of his husband’s company.

“God damn it... I really hate crying...” He let out a small laugh as he continued to hold Naruto’s hand, his lips coming down to gently kiss Naruto’s forehead like he had before the blond left. “I’m just... so happy you’re ok...”

It didn’t take long at all for the drug to start affecting him. His pain slowly began to vanish and it didn’t help with his coherence, but he could still tell what was happening. And he didn’t like it.

“No, no, no… Sas…” Naruto whispered. “’M okay… Don’t cry…” He reached up to cup Sasuke’s cheek but his coordination seemed nonexistent and his hand slapped the raven lightly. He tried to wipe the tears away, but it was clumsy. “’M okay…”

Sasuke took the hand that was trying to wipe his tears into his own and kissed the palm lightly. “I know you are... that’s why I’m crying. But I guess it’s just really emotional for me too. I just don’t know how to feel I guess.” He kept the hand pressed to his cheek, loving how it felt against his skin.

“Do you need anything?” he asked, trying to change the subject. There would be plenty of time for discussion on feelings later when Naruto was feeling better.

“Nuh uh.” Naruto shook his head but stopped quickly as it made his stomach lurch again. “I got you… All I need…”

Grabbing the edge of the blankets, he attempted to tug them up a little more but he was too weak. He laid there for a few minutes, drifting in and out. His throat stung horribly and his head felt all fuzzy, but it was nothing compared to the pressure on his chest.

“Mmm… ice chips?” he asked, deciding he needed something to get rid of the cottony feeling in his mouth.

The raven nodded, grabbing the cup on the side table and taking out a few of the small slivers of ice, placing them at Naruto’s partially opened mouth, knowing the blond couldn’t do it himself.

Leaning forward a bit, Naruto pulled the icy cold chips into his mouth and sighed happily. He relaxed, just sucking on them to soothe his throat. It helped a little bit. It certainly made him more comfortable.

Not twenty minutes later, the nurse returned.

“Sorry to interrupt. I know you’re tired, Naruto, but we’ve got to get you up and moving around a little bit. Just a few steps, and then you can sleep, okay? It helps with circulation, so you don’t form any clots in your legs.”

The last thing Naruto wanted to do was get up. He wanted to stay in that bed and never get up again. “No… don’t wanna…”

“I know,” the nurse sighed. “But you have to. I’ll help you and you husband can, too, if you want.” She stepped up to the bed and pulled Naruto’s blanket down, making him groan. She looked at Sasuke as she took his hand. “C’mon, Naruto. Let’s get up. Just for a minute.”

Naruto shook his head again and looked to Sasuke, as though pleading for the raven not to make him.

“Come on baby... she knows what she’s doing.” Sasuke would rather have let Naruto do whatever he wanted but he didn’t want anything to happen to his husband. “Just for a minute, I’ll be right here holding you.”

The blond kept Sasuke’s gaze for a few moments longer before giving in. Using both the Uchiha and the nurse, he sat up with a groan and moved so slowly, sliding his legs over the side of the bed.

“I know you’re dizzy, so stand up slowly. I’ve got you, so don’t worry about falling.”

Scooting forward a bit, Naruto put his feet on the floor and slowly stood. He couldn’t move for a moment, but then, with her help, he took a step forward. He took a few more, moving sluggishly towards the door, and then she guided him back.

“See? That wasn’t so bad. You did well,” she smiled as she helped him back up, lying him down and pulling the blanket back up. “We’ll do it once more before you’re released and then your husband will help you once you get home, okay? Now, why don’t you rest for a bit while I talk with your husband?”

She motioned for Sasuke to step out into the hall and then quietly left the room as Naruto’s eyes fluttered closed.

Sasuke followed the woman out into the hall. He didn’t know she wanted to speak with him alone and he was extremely anxious already and to add on something possibly being wrong... he didn’t even want to think about it.

“Don’t worry. I just want to go over a few things for when you take Naruto home. I didn’t want to talk in there because he needs to fall asleep,” the nurse, an older woman named Yuki, smiled. She pet the Uchiha on the arm, rubbing gently. “Don’t worry so much. Your husband is fine. He’ll be in pain for a while but we’ll give you a prescription to help with that.”

Crossing the hall, she sat on a bench and motioned for Sasuke to sit beside her.

“I assume you’re to be Naruto’s caregiver, which means for at least 24 hours, you’ll have to stay with him at all times. All times. You’ll have to get him up to walk every few hours to keep his blood circulating properly. Other than that, keep him in bed for 2-3 days and after that he can start moving around more. He’ll have trouble lifting his arms and absolutely no lifting, pushing or pulling anything. No strenuous activity at all and try to keep him from twisting his upper body. Any questions?”

Sasuke tried to take everything in. He knew what to expect and he was fully prepared to take care of his husband. “Will he have to have the tubes in still when he comes home?” He had noticed them right when Naruto was wheeled in. Their main purpose was to rid the area of excess fluid from swelling but Sasuke wasn’t sure how to take care of that if he had to.

“No. The swelling should go down soon. He won’t be attached to anything once you take him home, so you’ll have to keep him properly hydrated. The doctor will dress Naruto’s breasts with gauze or a surgical bra that he’ll have to wear for a few days.”

Yuki pet his arm again before standing. “You’ll be given papers to take home with all this information on them, so don’t worry about trying to remember everything. I just wanted to go over it with you in case you had any questions. Did you have anymore, Mr. Uchiha?”

“No... Thank you.” Sasuke stood and shook the woman’s hand before heading back into the room where Naruto was now sound asleep. He was anxious to see what they looked like but he wanted Naruto to see them first... Getting breasts was something the blond had been waiting for his whole life and now that he had them, he wanted Naruto to be able to see his own body before anyone else.

Naruto slept soundly in a drugged haze for a few hours, not even stirring in the slightest. He was pain-free, and therefore relaxed during his rest, but still groggy by the time he woke up. He immediately looked for Sasuke.

“Sorry… you gotta…wait around for me… so much…” he muttered, raising a fist to rub at his eyes. “Home soon?”

Sasuke was right there when Naruto opened his eyes. “The doctor’s going to come in and make sure everything’s ok first and talk to you about a few things. And then you’ll get to see them...” Sasuke wasn’t sure how Naruto was going to react to seeing himself with actual breasts.

“You mean… we get to see them…” Naruto’s hazy eyes searched over Sasuke’s face. He could see the worry there clear as day. “I’m not gonna freak out, if that’s what you’re worried about. I have tits, yay!” He waved his hand around and grinned sloppily. “Stop worrying so much. You’ll get wrinkles.”

He reached up and poked Sasuke right in the forehead, and then giggled at the look that crossed his raven’s face.

“I’m not worrying...” The raven almost pouted as he said it but stopped himself before it happened. To be honest, he was excited to see Naruto’s newest assets, it was hard to see under the gown but he was sure they’d look amazing.

“Tch. I know you. You so are,” Naruto scoffed and poked Sasuke again. “Look, wrinkles. Worrying. Stop it, Sas. I’m excited. But don’t stop the little pout you got going on…” His thumb gently stroked over the raven’s lip and his grin widened. “It’s pretty cute.”

Tsunade coughed from the doorway and then stepped inside, tugging on her white jacket. “Naruto, you look better. Stoned out of your mind, but better.” She smirked as she came to stand beside him. “I’m going to remove the dressings on the wound and the tube, and then fit you with a surgical bra. You’ll wear it for a few days and then take it off. But, are you ready to see them?”

“Hell yeah!” Naruto whooped, throwing his fist in the air. He hissed through his teeth as pain raced through his body.

“Good luck with that, Mr. Uchiha,” she said to Sasuke. “You’ll have to keep him from doing that, which I imagine is going to be very difficult. He’s a hyper little brat, isn’t he?”

Naruto’s bottom lip jut out in a pout. “Am not. Now show me my tits!”

Sighing heavily, Tsunade helped the blond pull his gown down to his waist and carefully began removing the dressings. There was a bit of blood but that was to be expected. Soon enough, she had the breasts exposed.

They were a C cup, which Naruto had chosen. They fit in perfectly with his body type and despite the heavy bruising, they were perky and full, and actually looked quite real.

“Am I glad I came to you,” Naruto whispered, his voice suddenly tight as he looked over his new breasts. “They’re… beautiful…” He gently, his touch feather-light, dragged his fingers over the full mounds, entranced. And then he looked up at Sasuke, trying to gauge his husband’s reaction.

To say the least, Sasuke was speechless. He really didn’t know how to react. Seeing Naruto with breasts looked so... natural. He took a few moments to compose himself before he spoke.

“They’re gorgeous baby... they look so sexy.” He wanted so badly to touch them but knew it would probably be a bad idea. He could wait but the temptation was still there.

Naruto’s smile could have lit up the room. He turned teary eyes towards Sasuke, beaming so brightly as he saw the truth in Sasuke’s eyes. Knowing that his husband was still attracted to him… It was the best feeling in the world and he breathed a huge sigh of relief.

“It’s okay if he touches, right? As long as he’s gentle?” He turned his eyes towards Tsunade and caught her nod. “Touch them, Sas. I want you to, and I know you want to, too.”

Sasuke looked over at the blond doctor. There was no way he was going to do that in front of the woman...

“Could you give us a minute?” He wanted privacy and he also wanted to talk to Naruto about a few things, alone.

“Just tell the nurse when you’re done and she’ll page me,” the blonde doctor answered. “If you’re going to touch, be gentle. And I mean gentle. If I have to take him back into surgery because you ruptured the sutures or something, I’m going to hunt you down, Uchiha.”

Without another word, Tsunade excused herself and disappeared, leaving the two of them alone.

Sasuke stood from the chair he had been sitting in beside Naruto’s’ bed and opted to seat himself on the edge of the bed. As excited as he was before at the prospect of getting to touch, he was now equally as nervous.

“Are you sure...? I don’t want to hurt you.” Sasuke’s hand rested on Naruto’s thigh, not sure what he was even doing. It wasn’t as if he’d never touched tits before but these were Naruto’s tits... and they were making him nervous.

“Sas,” Naruto sighed. “Look at me.” He waited until he had the raven’s attention before reaching for his hand. “If I thought you were going to hurt me, I wouldn’t have asked you to touch me. I’m still me, even if I have extra parts now. I’m still your husband and there’s no reason for you to be nervous. You’re married to these tits.”

He smirked as he slowly dragged Sasuke’s hand up his body. Slowly, and ever so gently, he laid Sasuke’s palm over his left breast. “Don’t be nervous.”

It was an instant reaction and Sasuke didn’t even anticipate how hard he would become from touching Naruto for the first time like that. He shifted but tried not to draw attention to it as he let his fingertips gently caress the soft skin. It was amazing how right it felt. He was sure it was even more powerful of a feeling for Naruto.

“I don’t even know what to say... God baby, you are so incredibly beautiful.” His hand moved to the other one, just as gently as the first, he caressed it with just his fingertips.

Naruto’s breath caught in his throat as Sasuke’s fingers began to move on their own. He swallowed thickly as a million different emotions flooded his body, the foremost being happiness.

“I feel more like myself, with you touching me like this, than I have at any other time during my life. In this moment, I feel almost complete. I feel like… I’m almost me now, Sasuke. Almost. This feel so… right to me.”

He wiped away the few tears that had escaped and grinned through them. “I’m almost the person I was born to be.”

The raven couldn’t help but share that smile with his husband, it was so amazing to see Naruto happy, and he practically could light up a whole room with that smile.

“Speaking of the person you’ve always wanted to be... I have a preset for you...” He pulled out a large envelope and handed it over to the blond. Hopefully Naruto wouldn’t be weird about accepting it. It was a pretty pricy gift.

Naruto frowned but took the envelope in his hand and opened it.

“What’s this?” he asked as he pulled a few sheets of paper free. A smaller one fell into his lap. He turned them the right way and looked over them. The hand holding them suddenly started shaking.

“Sasuke, what…?” He took a few moments to read over them, his other hand moving to cover his mouth. They were papers to legally change his name.

Sasuke wasn’t sure what that reaction was supposed to mean. When Naruto got excited, it was hard sometimes to gauge if it was excitement or horror.

“If it’s the wrong time to give you that....” God, now he felt horrible.

“No! No, it’s not the wrong time.” Naruto reached for Sasuke’s hand and squeezed it. “I mean, yeah, I’m dealing with a lot of shit here, but… No, it’s a good time. It’s good…”

Setting the papers down, he picked up the smaller one and looked over the check for it. That was… a lot of money.

“I’m glad, Sasuke. Really. It’s time… It’s time for me to do this. I just… You’re okay with it, right? I won’t be Naruto anymore… Once I sign these and go hand them in, I’m… I’ll be your wife, not your husband. I’ll be Naruko. For good.”

Sasuke nodded. He had thought long and hard about it before he had gotten the paperwork for the other. He knew he would miss Naruto but to be honest, it wasn’t the gender that mattered. He would still be the same as ‘she’. He would still get to see the same smile he loved so much, still get to be with the one he fell in love with...

Taking Naruto’s hand in his, Sasuke leaned forward and gently kissed his husband’s lips. “All I care about is you... I’ve always wanted just you, no matter what gender... Why do you think I was so accepting of you as a guy when I had thought you were a woman? It’s because I love ‘you’ not ‘Naruto’ and not ‘Naruko’; just you.”

Naruto smiled brightly once again and squeezed Sasuke’s hand. For what felt like the millionth time, he wondered how he’d found someone so amazing. Sasuke Uchiha really was his soul mate.

Reaching for the rolling table that fit over the bed, he pulled it close and spread the papers out over it. Digging through the drawer in the bedside table, he found a pen and began filling out the information.

“A lot’s changing, huh, Sas? I’ve got breasts now, and once I’m well enough to go into the office and hand these over, I’m going to have a new name, and a new title. Your wife.” He laughed as he scribbled his signature where indicated and then slid everything back into the envelope. “Maybe it’s crazy, but I’m happier than I’ve ever been.”

“It makes me happy to see you happy, that’s all I want for you.” Sasuke took the envelope and placed it back in his bag before returning to Naruto’s side.

Kissing the blond’s forehead, Sasuke let his fingertips caress the tan cheek. “I love you so much...” It was such a quiet whisper of words, but he knew Naruto could hear them.

“I love you, too, Sas,” Naruto smiled, leaning up to kiss his husband. “Thanks for being so supportive. I never, ever, could have done any of this without you by my side…”

The door opened and Tsunade came back in to speak with the two of them and get Naruto situated with the bra so he could go home. She wrote a prescription for pain meds and handed it to Sasuke so they could get it filled after they left.

As Naruto was helped into the wheelchair so he could be taken home, he couldn’t help but think that as soon as he left the hospital behind, his life would be changing big time. It seemed more real, going out into the world with breasts and the papers signed to have his name legally changed. However, he’d been telling the truth when he said he was happier than he’d ever been.

He didn’t feel so different anymore, even though he still had a penis. He was on his way to becoming the person he’d always been meant to be. He was correcting the mistake that had been made once he’d been conceived, and he had a husband that loved him and would support him through it all.

No, life was good. Amazing. Perfect, almost. There were only a few loose ends to tie up, and then his life would be complete and he could move on - move on as Naruko and leave his old life behind for the better.
