A/N: Okay guys, the last chapter, just as announced!
--
Some of you may have already noticed that I deleted the lemon scenes after having some stress about my one-shot "Masks". I already uploaded Fading Dream on aff now. Link to my fics there can be found in my profile.
So - now to this chapter: A lot of time passes once more, without being told how much. I leave that open to you. Just as a little hint, in Germany this year it still snowed in fucking APRIL and not even two weeks later you were able to go out in just a tee.
I needed to put some fluff in here, but I'm horrible at doing so. Please bear with me.
It would have been nice, if the fox had given him the information bit by bit. So that he could put them in order. But no, there was everything in an instant and Naruto didn't know where to begin. He was confused, though everything made more sense now. But worst of all was that he saw it through his eyes, but it felt as if he was watching a movie.
Gaara was still sitting, rooted, not even three feet away from him, and Naruto lay sprawled and naked on the floor. Sitting up he pulled the blanket into his lap and closed his eyes to concentrate. The memories of the later part of the night were important now. It was difficult to get the right parts, but they came slowly to him.
The kyuubi controlled his body and he came back with Sakura. He knew of the feelings, which the kyuubi felt the whole evening. Wanting to feel pain and cause pain, though not necessarily physical, causing trouble for his vessel. Naruto saw how Kurama was always interrupted or rejected. And then he was at home, sitting on Gaara's lap. Gaara, who looked at him like a starved animal. The fox made the first step of that fateful night, though he was later on apparently the submissive part. He didn't want to comprehend those memories too much.
Naruto opened his eyes and looked at Gaara, who still sat, frozen. Did his friend really look at him like a starved animal? He never noticed.
The blond took a deep breath. As much as he wanted to think he was to blame, he was only a puppet that was controlled by the kyuubi. He was as guilty as Gaara for that point, that he liked his childhood friend, but could you really call that a crime? But then again Naruto didn't know how much Gaara liked him. Was it only something physical, like it was for Naruto as long as he didn't know it was Gaara? Or was it the same feeling Naruto had ever since that morning he woke up cuddling with him? There were so many moments that explained both sides and Naruto knew he wouldn't come to an answer on his own. An answer that would clear up his life, though he knew it would most likely hurt him.
"Why?" he asked staring at the floor. God, he was pathetic. He didn't even know how to put everything in a proper question and make the situation even more awkward than it was already.
"Kankuro said it's normal to want to touch the one you like," Gaara mumbled after a few seconds.
Naruto's face lightened up. He lifted his head and asked with a small smile, "You like me?"
"I don't know. Temari calls it 'love'," Gaara sighed and let his head fall back. Naruto was a bit confused. How could Gaara not know, but his siblings did? Apparently his thoughts were written in his face, since Gaara continued, "Love is a concept that's rather hard for me to understand."
"I don't know much either," Naruto chuckled, "but I know love is something that can hurt a lot and that it grows. You don't see someone and say 'I love you'. You see that someone, know it's someone special and over time you learn to love this person. And for me," he let his head drop again, knowing he wouldn't be able to say what he was going to, if he looked into those deep green eyes, "I realized that you are someone special to me the moment I woke up with you in my arms. I think there was already something before that, but I just wasn't able to understand it."
"At the greenhouse, a week and a day after your birthday," Gaara stated monotone.
The blond lifted his head. "Huh?"
"That was when I noticed that you're someone special."
Naruto couldn't fight the small smile that formed on his lips, remembering how Gaara told him then that he didn't bother him. "Guess that's a lot of time then, ne?" he chuckled.
Gaara nodded, cupped Naruto's cheeks with his hands and pulled him closer. "You're special to me and I'm special to you. So it's mutual?"
Naruto nodded.
"You won't run away again?"
Still smiling, the blond shook his head no. "But I know we can't pretend everything is fine. I mean, the kyuubi and I, we both did a lot of shit and-"
"I don't care," Gaara interrupted him, closed his eyes and leaned his forehead on Naruto's shoulder. "I just want to sleep so badly, Naruto," he mumbled.
…
There was something completely wrong with this situation. Not even 6 hours after he was attacked by Shukaku, was threatened - though he still couldn't tell with what - and was confessed to, he lay in the bed of the man who did all this. Gaara had his arms twined around Naruto's waist and was breathing evenly and deep.
Naruto was wide awake and he could easily tell, the redhead in contrast was deep asleep, something he witnessed never before. This one morning didn't count; the redhead was way too fast to wake then. All those years ago Naruto had tried to watch Gaara sleep, and now that he was able to do so, it felt awkward.
This night he didn't get a single minute of sleep. A few rays of sunlight fell into the room already, when Naruto heard voices in the apartment. He tensed and strained his ears to understand them, and was quite glad Gaara was a silent sleeper. Nevertheless he heard only parts of the conversation.
"Sure … blond …?" a woman asked.
"… Gaara …" a hushed male voice answered.
Naruto knew those voices and relaxed immediately, knowing it weren't burglars. The conversation of Temari and Kankuro went on and Naruto heard words like blood, sand and corpse. A shiver went down his spine and he hoped, he imagined half of those words only. But then … Gaara was always rather violent and what did he say again about he almost killed Naruto once already?
Maybe, just to be sure just in case he didn't hear wrong, he should go outside and tell them he wasn't dead. He tried to loosen himself from the redhead's grip around his waist and to find a way to slip from underneath Gaara's head on his chest without waking him, when the arms around him enclosed him even more.
"Don't go," Gaara mumbled sleepy into Naruto's chest, "they won't go away otherwise."
Naruto chuckled nervously. "I think they assume you killed me and are searching for my corpse now."
Gaara shook his head, nuzzling into the toned chest. "They know better than to search here."
"Huh?" Naruto looked with wide eyes at the redhead, who tried to find sleep once more and breathed deep and evenly again only moments later.
The blond sighed. He should make sure Gaara called his siblings later. Why was he in this situation again? Yeah, well, at least he felt like smiling.
…
"It's as simple as it sounds, you stay here."
"But - Temari!" Naruto whined.
"You. Will. Not. Go. Away," the blonde made it very clear, though her glare was still not as good as Gaara's.
Naruto sighed, "Okay, okay!" to calm her down. "I will get my clothes from Lee as soon as possible. But it will be kinda a pain in the ass to travel to the other side of the city to work every day," he pouted.
Temari blinked confused at him before realization struck her. "Ah, right! Shikamaru said something in that direction," she trailed off and smiled slyly. "Why don't you work down at Gaara's café again?"
"I just can't switch jobs like underwear!" he huffed, "And Neji will kill me. Not to mention what TenTen will do and the money I get there. Wait - Did you just say 'Gaara's café'?"
She blinked at him surprised. "Yeah?"
"As in 'he owns' it?" Naruto asked bewildered.
Temari nodded hesitant. "You didn't know?"
Naruto shook his head. "And here this bastard told me the owner wouldn't want me to work there," he growled.
"Hey, don't call my baby bother a bastard!" Temari snarled at him and banged her fist on the kitchen table, causing their cups to jump.
"Calm the fuck down over there," Kankuro yelled from the living room where he sat with Gaara.
"Yeah, no need to shout like that," Temari replied in an equivalent loving loud yell. "And if I don't see you making Gaara eat something every day and swing your little cute ass in the café in the afternoons, you'll wish to be TenTen's personal slave and that she tries out every one of her toys on you. Don't look at me like that, she is into that. How I know? Feh, Shikamaru is only lazy, not dumb, and I know how to make him talk."
Naruto tried not to think about TenTen, or how Temari brings Shikamaru to talk about his friend's preferences, or how he even knew such stuff, and to bring his facial expressions back to their usual looks. Christmas with the Sabaku siblings was something special, indeed.
…
Living with Gaara now was strange. Some things were still the same, like the news channel on TV, the strong smell of coffee in the morning and the café downstairs, but a lot of things were different. Like how Gaara twined his arms around Naruto and rested his head on the blond's shoulder when no one was around; or when the redhead dragged him every evening into his bedroom, just to use him as a pillow. And though Naruto knew, he did all those things with Gaara before, he tensed up every time Gaara touched him and prayed, his redhead didn't notice. But soon the cuddling lessened and eventually Gaara went to his room without telling Naruto. When the blond checked up on him, he was simply sitting cross-legged with closed eyes on his bed and didn't move, even as Naruto sat down beside him.
"What's going on?" Naruto asked into the darkness. He wasn't answered, but he knew Gaara didn't fall asleep sitting. His breathing pattern wasn't at all how it was when he slept.
His hand was touched and Naruto immediately tensed. "That's going on. You obviously are afraid of me touching you. I won't do it then," Gaara stated and receded his hand.
"No! It's just-"
Naruto was pushed to his back, Gaara straddled his waist and pinned his hands down. "No? What is it then?" the redhead hissed.
"That! I know we kissed and we had sex, but I didn't know then it was you. I have the kyuubi's memories, but that wasn't me!" Naruto said desperate. Gaara let go of his hands and Naruto rested them on the redhead's knees. "I still can't pretend nothing happened and at the same time I just don't know what to do," he added with a throaty voice and stroked Gaara's knees gently with his thumbs.
The light on the bedside table turned on and Naruto looked at it in surprise. "Sand," Gaara said, turned Naruto's head back and looked through half-lidded eyes at him. "We should change that then." The redhead leaned down and gave his blond a soft kiss.
Naruto had known the feeling of those soft lips for so long, but now, knowing it was Gaara, looking into those half-lidded green eyes, it was a completely different feeling. He felt Gaara's tongue sliding over his lips and parted them. Their tongues touched almost cautious and Naruto couldn't help the small moan that escaped him, and bucked his hips.
Gaara drew back and looked at him with dark eyes. "Do you know where this is going?" he asked with a low voice, "when you continue to make such sounds and movements?"
Naruto blushed momentarily, but nodded, and Gaara leaned down once more. The blond cupped the redhead's cheeks and pushed him slowly away. Gaara glared at him and Naruto explained low, "That's why I won't do it anymore, at least not tonight. I just don't want to take things too fast again. I hope you understand," he said with a sad smile.
Sure, Christmas and what happened then was already some days ago, but there wasn't much progress between them until now, and diving head over heels into something with Gaara again wasn't something Naruto wanted to do. This time he wanted to take his time. Not knowing where it would lead them, when Gaara searched his proximity, let him tense up every time until now, but now that Naruto understood himself and told Gaara how he felt, it surely would be better soon.
It took Gaara some moments, but finally he nodded and let himself drop to Naruto's side. The light turned off and Naruto heard clothes rustling before everything went silent.
"Ne, Gaara … How come you were hardly sleeping when we met and today I can set my clock by your sleeping habits?" he asked after a few moments of silence.
"I wasn't 'hardly sleeping', I wasn't sleeping at all," Gaara stated matter-of-factly from the other side of the bed.
Naruto chuckled, "Yeah … Everyone needs to sleep."
The redhead didn't answer anymore and though Naruto tried, like always, to stay awake until he was sure Gaara was asleep, at some point he just fell asleep.
…
"You sure you want to do this?" Gaara asked with a slightly worried undertone.
"Yeah, it's the only way to learn how I'll react," Naruto answered, his voice confident.
"And kyuubi? Sure he won't jump in?" the redhead contemplated.
The blond smirked. "I made a little deal with him."
"What kind of deal?" Gaara questioned with a tight voice, and Naruto understood him. Kurama was never someone who you could trust easily. Still the blond blushed, already thinking about the deal, not wanting to tell Gaara. "Tell me," the redhead inquired after a few moments of awkward silence.
"He likes to see me being in pain," Naruto explained low and hoped that would be it. Gaara's glare and his furrowed brows told him otherwise. "And …" he cleared his throat, "well, he said … Shukaku and you have a few things in common and …"
"And what?" Gaara growled. Obviously he didn't like to be compared with Shukaku.
"Ifandonlyifthere'sanexttimehewantsustoswitchourrolesfromlasttimeandhesaidyoulikeitrough," Naruto sputtered out in one breath. He took a deep breath to refill his lung and exhaled with a sigh. Now it was out and he felt strange having told it to Gaara.
The redhead blinked at him. Obviously he didn't understand his fast speech.
"No, I won't repeat it," Naruto mumbled, "Just believe me, he won't do anything. Give it to me already."
Gaara raised an eyebrow, but filled the glass in front of Naruto with a clear deep red liquid. "This is rather light and should taste like cherry juice."
"It's not my first time drinking!" Naruto snorted, "It's just the time after the drinking that I don't remember!"
"Still we should begin with the light stuff," Gaara stated and capped the bottle. Naruto huffed and emptied the glass in one go. "How do you feel?" he asked as soon as the glass was on the table.
"Huh? Gaara, you never drank before, right?" The redhead's lips pressed together to a thin line, but finally he nodded slightly. Naruto laughed. "You don't feel anything so soon, that much I know after living with old pervy Jiraiya. It takes some time until it's in your blood and usually that little bit doesn't even warm you up. So, will you refill it or just hand me the bottle over?" he asked with a self confident smile.
Reluctantly Gaara refilled the glass. "As soon as you have the feeling that the kyuubi won't hold his word, say something," he said monotone, but the sand on the table rustled a bit.
…
Naruto hummed low an old lullaby and ran his fingers through red strands of hair. It was still as soft as he remembered it from more than six years ago.
Gaara's head rested against Naruto's chest and the redhead breathed deep and even, but Naruto wasn't able to tell if Gaara was really sleeping. In the end the blond emptied the whole bottle and felt only slightly dizzy. He laughed more than usual and it was so warm he wanted to strip to his boxers, but he was still able to restrain himself from doing so. Gaara didn't even wanted to taste the sweet liquid, fearing Shukaku would take him over. Naruto told him, Kurama was most likely only able to do so with Naruto because he didn't know about the whole stuff, but Gaara still didn't want to take any risk.
Somehow they made it from the kitchen to the sofa in the living room with a bowl of popcorn in Naruto's arms. Now one of those horror and splatter movies on TV, where you could predict every move of the murder, was the only source of light in the room. Gaara decided to stay at that movie when they flipped through the channels, saying he liked the director and didn't watch this movie yet, but now he didn't even look at the TV. Instead he nuzzled into Naruto's chest and together with the falling snow outside, it made the blond remember.
"Gaara?" Naruto asked whispering and waited for a reaction. Green eyes fluttered open a bit and looked asking up at him. "Do you still remember that day when you were ill six years ago?" Gaara nodded slowly. "How come you let me touch you then? It bugged me for all those years," the blond spoke soft.
"Don't question things that happened so long ago," Gaara mumbled into Naruto's chest and closed his eyes.
Naruto tugged playful at the red hair between his fingers. "Oh tell me, pleeeease?"
Gaara growled low and the blond rubbed his scalp apologetically. He finally sighed, "I wanted you to stop annoying me," his tone making clear that he wouldn't say anything more about it.
Still Naruto smiled content. Some day he would surely hear that the redhead actually had liked the act.
…
Naruto looked intensely at the black shadow around Gaara's eyes when the redhead came from the bathroom, his hair still damp. "Ne, Gaara," he asked casually, "do you think you look really that bad without make-up?" Gaara looked slightly confused at Naruto, though most people wouldn't have seen any change in his expression at all. "Well, I can't tell, I've never seen you without," the blond explained pouting, "and that's it. Why always wear make-up?"
The red haired man dropped himself beside the blond that was slumped over the back of the sofa. "Old habit," he stated finally, "People kept annoying me about my appearance back in Suna. This was the most … acceptable way to make them stop."
Naruto saw Gaara tensing and nodded, deeming it for now safer to not ask more about his past.
…
"Naruto," Gaara growled and pushed the smaller male against a wall, his hands on both sides of the blond's head.
The smaller man trembled, his face had a deep red color and he spoke shaking, "Y-yeah Gaara?"
"Just what the heck happened there?" the redhead hissed and protected Naruto's body with his own from every look in their direction.
Naruto chewed his lower lip. How was he supposed to explain to Gaara without making him go on rampage? "First, calm down, please?" he managed to ask with a calm voice.
Gaara took a few deep breaths before he looked expectantly at Naruto once more. He didn't even see everything that happened and still he reacted so possessive, just like in their old days.
"Calmed down? Okay. So there were these girls earlier and they tried to flirt with me every time I was at their table, saying things like that they didn't see me for quite some time and how it came that I wasn't here during autumn and most of winter and so on. Of course I couldn't tell them exactly what happened, but I also couldn't be so mean and say it's not their business."
"It's not their business," Gaara interrupted him.
Naruto scowled at Gaara. "That will make them not come back," he huffed, "Well, I told them I had some problems with my girlfriend - don't look at me like that! And then they swooned over me and said that they wouldn't ever cause me any problems. I smiled at them and had to go to another table."
Gaara's glare intensified.
"Yeah, okay, when I came back to them, one of them stood up and did what you just witnessed."
"And you didn't fight her," Gaara stated monotonous and his gaze dropped down to the floor.
"It was just … too fast?" Naruto offered weak. And actually, it was. He didn't expect it and didn't know what to do to end it without the young girl ending up in the hospital. After all, he had been at the green leaf for a few years.
Naruto saw several emotions run over Gaara's face. The last, the one that stuck, was only slightly visible. One of those you didn't notice until you were used to how to point out Gaara's moods, hurt and betrayal. Naruto felt his heart drop down into his stomach.
"Hey, Gaara," he said softly and cupped the redhead's cheek, forcing him to face Naruto, "It's not as if I enjoyed it or something like that. It was just so fast, I was surprised and before I was able to gently push her away, you already had me here." He gestured at the wall.
Gaara turned his head to look at the still dumbfounded girl, which by now was in the center of a small crowd of excited chattering girls. When he turned back to Naruto, the blond saw a predatory glint in those deep green eyes of Gaara. "You liked the kisses we shared in the summer, on the sofa," Gaara again, more stated than asked and traced with his thumb Naruto's bottom lip. Nevertheless Naruto nodded.
The thumb was replaced by Gaara's lips, which moved softly against Naruto's. The blond couldn't do anything but close his eyes and lean into the kiss, putting his arms gently around Gaara's neck, at the feeling of those soft lips against his own. He felt Gaara's hands make their way down his side to his hip and a soft tongue traced his lips. But as soon as he opened his mouth to give Gaara admission, the redhead was gone. Naruto whimpered low, opened his eyes reluctantly and saw Gaara smirking at him, before he freed himself from Naruto's arms completely.
Gaara simply turned around and stated, "The fox is mine," as if it was the most natural thing of the world, into the room. Naruto in contrast turned a even more deeper shade of red and sneaked to the door of the storage room before the girls, that were now glaring daggers at him, got a hold of him.
…
It took way to long before the door creaked open and Naruto saw the outline of Gaara looking down at him. "You want me dead, or…?" Naruto deadpanned and got up from the box he sat on.
Gaara shook his head. "They're gone. I closed the café for today," he added and took a step to the side to let Naruto leave the storage room. As soon as Naruto had passed the redhead, arms encircled his waist and made him stop. Gaara nuzzled the blond locks and was almost not audible when he spoke, "I don't want you to work here anymore."
Naruto shrunk into himself. "Did I do something wrong? … First Temari threatens me to work here again and now this," he asked sheepishly and chuckled nervously.
The blond could feel the deep breaths Gaara had to take to calm himself down once more. "No, But maybe Temari shouldn't think I'm oblivious, but you. I don't like the way they look at you." Gaara tightened his hold on Naruto's waist. "And," he mumbled so low that Naruto had to strain his ears to catch Gaara's words, "you're distracting me."
Naruto turned his head to look over his shoulder at Gaara. "Distracting you? How do I manage that? I mean, we hardly speak or do anything not work related down here," he pouted and crossed his arms.
Gaara leaned down to Naruto's ear and nibbled at it, causing the blond to shiver. "You don't need to do more than be with me to distract me," he whispered into Naruto's ear and let his hands wander down to the blond's hips. He gave Naruto a peck on his neck, then got off and walked past him to the exit of the café as if nothing had happened.
Naruto stood, rooted there for one moment. In moments like this he cursed himself for giving that speech to Gaara about falling in love and giving Kurama his promise. When Naruto regained control over his body, he hastily put his apron behind the counter and followed Gaara, knowing the redhead would lock him up until the next day if he didn't follow. With a bright blush on his face he mumbled, "I need to get some groceries," and headed in the other direction as soon as Gaara had locked up the door.
…
As usual Naruto was alone when he woke up. Even on their free days Gaara never slept late into the day. Naruto left the bedroom and found Gaara in the kitchen, refilling his cup. The redhead gave him a peck on his forehead and walked past Naruto into the living room. Naruto blushed, got himself something to drink as soon as he got over the shock, and sat down beside Gaara on the sofa.
Gaara took his hand and put it on his own thigh. "Just be here for now, that's all I want."
"What are you talking about?" Naruto asked suddenly feeling sleepy again. As much as he didn't like the taste of coffee, its smell made him relax since he didn't sleep much last night. He sipped at his orange juice and wondered if he actually should ask Gaara for a cup of coffee while putting the glass on the table. Maybe he'd like it, if Gaara made it.
"You said you don't know what to do. I told you already I don't care about what and why everything happened, but you still are behaving different. I don't like that," Gaara stated and took a sip of his coffee while the anchorman on the T.V. announced the weather.
Naruto let it all sink in. He actually didn't like it himself, but his decision was the right one. He nodded sleepy and closed his eyes, rested his head on the back of the sofa and soon he drifted off. When he opened his eyes, he wondered half consciously why he suddenly lay on his side and what the comfortable pillow was under his head. However, it was relaxing and the fingertips moving over his scalp made him purr low. Wait, fingertips on his scalp? Naruto turned his head to take in his surroundings and looked up into green eyes. His head rested on Gaara's thigh and the redheads fingers were buried in blond tresses.
"Did I wake you?" Gaara asked whispering worried. Naruto shook his head, rolled to his other side and buried his face in Gaara's shirt to continue sleeping. This was killing him.
…
Their friendship was never quite 'normal' and the start of their relationship wasn't better. On top of that Naruto made it all worse with his little speech, which he now realized. He bumped his head against the wall. How could he say that? He gave himself another bump on the head. Well, he felt more certain around Gaara now, but at the same time he felt every time like a liar when he caught himself fantasizing about the redhead. He wasn't able to deny it anymore, he wanted Gaara, but he wasn't sure if he was able to give him the love he deserved. His head hit the wall another five times rapidly.
"Brat," a deep voice called him from the back of Naruto's head.
The blond stopped in his movements. "Kurama?" he growled into the darkness of the room. Though it was in some way good the sly fox had convinced him to go back to Gaara, until now nothing good came from him. First he had started the whole thing between him and Gaara, hurting his redhead and making Naruto believe it was him that devastated Gaara, then he took halfway control over him when he was with Sakura - that much he understood now - and made him go back to be Shukaku's prey. Nevertheless it was better to listen to Kurama then to ignore him and make him so angry that he took him over completely in the end. In contrast to Gaara, Naruto didn't know how to restrain the demon and Gaara couldn't really help him learn to fight against the fox, when said fox wasn't willing to give them opportunities to practice.
"Do me one favor, okay?" Kurama pleaded. Naruto answered with another growl, saying it depended on the favor. "First, go out on the balcony," the fox continued. Naruto complied, seeing no harm in the act. Maybe Kurama just needed some fresh air? "Now sit on the handrail."
The blond knitted his eyebrows. "What for?" he grumbled, but actually enjoyed the feeling of the fresh air in his own lungs.
"You'll see. Just do it."
"No," Naruto replied and leaned against the banister, propping his head on his hands, "you'll just make me jump or something like that."
"Exactly."
The fox's nonchalance made Naruto laugh. "Why do you want me to kill us both? I learned that much from Jiraiya, if I go you'll go too." The fact that there were ways for Kurama to escape from his prison Naruto had left out, the fox either knew already, or didn't need to know. But one thing was certain, if Naruto just jumped down from here now, both of them were dead.
"I can't endure your blabbering anymore. I hear and see everything you think and do, and it kills me. So why not make it faster and painless?"
Naruto faltered. "Everything?" he asked after a few moments of awkward silence.
"Everything," Kurama confirmed sighing.
"That means when I and Gaara-" Naruto whispered to himself and let his hand slip over his eyes.
"Yes. And I will be there next time," the fox added to Naruto's uncertainty.
The blond felt the blood race to his face already at the thought of it. "No!" he exclaimed loud into the night. "I mean, I don't even know how to start it," he sighed somber under his breath. Though the fox was despicable and always made everything worse, he was at least someone Naruto could talk to without fearing he would spill everything on the next occasion. An enemy was, after all, still a better respondent than no one at all.
"'No'?" a deep voice behind Naruto repeated. The blond turned his head over his shoulder and just hoped that Gaara didn't hear his addition to that comment. The redhead stood patiently in the doorframe and waited for an answer.
Kurama snickered. "Pathetic. See how he looks at you," he cooed.
"Nothing important," Naruto said sheepishly, hoping half of the truth would suffice for now, "the kyuubi just wanted to make me jump." He'd surely tell Gaara later about everything, but not now.
A thin but firm wand of sand formed in front of him and soft fingers of sand pushed Naruto back in a straight position. The blond admired the small grains that traveled over the skin of his arms; gathered at his wrist and formed another hand that gentle tugged him away from the banister.
"What can you do exactly with that sand?" he asked finally, still looking wonderingly at his wrist, though there was no sand there anymore.
"A lot," the redhead simply stated when Naruto looked up, but yet again there was a twitch in his expression, a small change in his body language and tone that made Naruto not want to ask further questions.
They stood between the balcony and the living room for some time, before Naruto decided to take Gaara's hand and lead them both inside. Telling by the way Gaara looked at him, they would still stand there the next morning otherwise.
…
"Hm." Nagato didn't sound very pleased. After all Naruto had helped him and Konan to become a pair, he must feel useless not really being able to give him any good advice.
"I know. It's just … I want to, but I can't," Naruto whined into the phone.
"Why not? Didn't you say you two were already intimate?" the other very important redhead in his life inquired.
Naruto sighed. "Yeah. But it's all so strange. That's why. I want to, and I think he wants too, but I told him I want to take my time and fall in love. I want to give him all the love he deserves. But now I simply want him and don't know if that's already what I talked about so certain when I turned him down, and if that's enough. I know it's complicated," he ranted and trailed off finally. His thoughts went once more going in circles and he didn't know if Nagato understood him at all. Hell, he didn't understand himself that much.
Nagato needed some time before he answered again, "Maybe a little change of scene will help you? Jiraiya is going to a convention to promote his next book soon and I can stay with Konan, which would leave the house for you two."
Naruto's mood rose immediately. "I think Aka also should get to know the one that made me keep him," he chuckled.
…
"And you really are sure it's okay?" Naruto asked once more.
"Yes," Gaara sighed, "you've been asking this for the last three days now and my answer hasn't changed. I trust Kankuro. He's capable of not shooing every regular away. Anyway, even if he wasn't, it would be too late now."
"Yes … you're right," the blond agreed sheepishly, but wasn't able to fight the gleeful grin on his face when he took the key from his pocket and opened the door to the house that was his home for years.
He was just able to put his bag down and put his shoes off before something red hushed excited around his feet. His grin, if possible, grew even wider while he chased the little fur ball. When he was able to capture it in the living room - not without pushing over several photos and piles of books, Gaara leaned against the doorframe to the living room and, Naruto wasn't sure if he just saw things or if that was reality, but it seemed that a tiny but genuine smile adorned Gaara's lips.
Naruto held the red fur ball up into the air so that they could see each other and smiled a toothy grin when he exclaimed, "Gaara, this is Aka."
The redhead nodded once in approval to the fur ball.
Naruto turned the small omnivore to face him, looked sternly at it, and continued the ritual, "Aka, this is Gaara. He's the reason that old Jiraiya let you stay here." He pulled the animal closer to his mouth and whispered low enough to not to hurt its ears, but loud enough for Gaara to hear him, "Old pervy thinks he's a girl and I have a crush on him," all whilst looking into Gaara's eyes. Even lower, not wanting Gaara to hear him, and averting his eyes, he confided in his pet, "You know that only one of his assumptions is wrong, ne?" When the fur ball started to wiggle in his hands, Naruto set it down. "Just make sure not to bite him, okay?" he called after the red flash.
Why Naruto's subconscious decided to chose this moment was a mystery, but he suddenly remembered that they were now alone for at least three days in this house, depending on how drunk Jiraiya got, maybe more. Well, the house might not be special and they were alone together before, but the lake and the bench in front of their small private beach were apparently special. On that bench a lot happened, how Naruto had found out now. Not only Nagato and Konan had found their luck there, apparently there was something going on between Sasori and Deidara now, after they went out for a short break when they celebrated Christmas here.
"Uhm …I should show you everything, I guess," Naruto stated nervously grinning and scratched the back of his head. How was it again, a change of their surroundings to get over the awkwardness?
…
Fearing that the bench at the lake would make him forget all his concerns for one fatal moment, but losing all its magic as soon as it was too late once more, Naruto opted for the terrace in front of his room the second evening. The first evening they were so exhausted by the journey they went straight to bed after Naruto showed Gaara the house and they ate dinner. Though the redhead didn't seem to like the idea, he didn't complain when Naruto told him to sleep in his old bed, while Naruto slept on the couch beneath it. During the day Naruto showed Gaara the town, the place where he always ate ramen with Jiraiya and his old high school.
Now, on the terrace, Gaara sat beside him and had his nose in one of the old books from Jiraiya. When Naruto noticed, it was the one that gave him his name, he wanted to get it from Gaara, but the redhead simply continued reading while his sand shielded him off from every attack from Naruto.
The blond simply lay on his back now, on the blanket they had put there, and watched the clouds and the sinking sun. It was relaxing, soothing and he let his mind wander. All of a sudden he understood why Shikamaru loves to just simply lie in the grass and watch the sky.
When he looked up at Gaara, he wondered if it actually wasn't the bench that was magic, but the sun. The orange and red light made Gaara's hair glow even brighter, gave his skin an even softer look and the deeper shadows around Gaara's eyes made them shine only more. Those kissable and tempting lips of his moved slightly while his eyes scanned the pages. The three kisses they shared since Naruto had left Gaara, suddenly weren't enough anymore for the blond. He wanted to feel those lips against his once more.
Before Naruto actually knew what he was doing, he sat up and reached with one hand for Gaara's neck, pulling him closer, and at the same time he leaned in to meet him halfway. The redhead looked at him with wide eyes in surprise, but didn't fight. Their lips met only shortly and Naruto backed off almost immediately. Shocked about his own actions he mumbled, "I'm sorry," and wanted to get up, but Gaara, who had dropped the book meanwhile, grasped his arm and held him in place.
"Don't be sorry," Gaara said lowly, his eyes locked to cerulean ones.
Naruto opened his mouth as if to say something, but closed it again. When he finally spoke, his voice was full of concern. "I don't know if it's enough-"
Gaara pulled Naruto closer until their lips crushed into each other. The slow movements of those kissable lips against his made Naruto comply and close is eyes. Naruto was slightly dizzy by the lack of air, when Gaara pulled back and rested his forehead against the blond's. "Wasn't it enough from the very beginning?" he asked and set his hands on Naruto's waist. "Already then, in the greenhouse, I knew, even before me there were people you liked, but you didn't go to that extent with them, to annoy them as much as me and bear the consequences with so much … happiness."
Naruto opened his eyes, smiled at Gaara and chuckled, "Yeah … But you know what? If that is the consequence of annoying you, I'd do it again."
Gaara's answer was another kiss, preying Naruto's lips open, and pushing the blond onto his back. The redhead's hands roamed over Naruto's sides and chest, making him squirm under the touch.
When Gaara's hands slipped under Naruto's shirt and started to pull it up, the blond mumbled huskily, "We should go inside," against his lips. With half-lidded eyes Naruto looked at him and waited for his reaction.
Almost instantly Gaara was up and pulled the blond with him into the house and onto the make-shift bed. He settled between Naruto's legs and attached his lips to the blond's neck while his hands let his shirt slide up once more. "How far may I go?" he asked sultry. His fingers scratched slowly over the blond's waist and he nibbled soft at his neck.
Naruto's breath hitched and suddenly he had to remember something Kurama said. 'It certainly feels good. Both ways,' and, 'Just believe me, you'll like it …,' he had answered to Naruto's question if it hurts. "Gaara?" the blond asked sternly.
"Mh?" He backed off enough to look at Naruto.
"Just … a little question. When you and the kyuubi … Why did you keep scratching and biting me until I bled?" he asked hesitant. Naruto already understood, Kurama liked the agony and the pain, but he was afraid of how Gaara thought about his own preferences. And then there was also still the promise he'd given the fox.
The redhead sat up completely and looked down at his hands in his lap. He was silent for a moment, but explained finally, "I wanted to hear you scream and see your frightened expression."
"But Kurama didn't really do that?" Naruto stated more than he asked. He already knew the answer, but wanted to know what Gaara thought about it. Gaara shook his head, and this time Naruto wasn't able to read what the redhead thought about the whole matter. "Why did you keep doing so then?" he asked.
"He kept making those sounds with your voice every time I dug my fingernails and teeth into your skin. I don't really know anymore why I did it, it just … made me insane," Gaara replied and his voice dripped with disgust.
Naruto looked back at Gaara and took his hands. "I don't only want to have the kyuubi's memories about all this whole stuff," he finally answered Gaara's question that started the whole topic, and blushed.
Green eyes snapped up and locked to cerulean. "I don't know if I'm able to restrain myself from hurting you," he admitted low.
Naruto nodded in understanding. "Let's just see what happens," he added nervously chuckling.
Gaara pulled Naruto up and dragged the blond's shirt over his head in one swift motion. Pale hands rested on toned pectorals and wandered slowly lower. Naruto's breath was already coming heavier and he licked his lips. How was it possible to feel so much different from last time? Those pale fingers that traced his abs, the half-lidded green eyes that kept his cerulean one's locked and those red, slightly parted lips that invited him to kiss them, were everything that existed in that moment for Naruto.
The blond made the half-lidded eyes close completely when he captured Gaara's lips, but it was his breath that hitched when he felt nimble fingers unbuttoning and unzipping his jeans. A tongue preyed his mouth open and made his move along with it.
He was slowly pushed onto his back and those pale hands pulled down the blond's jeans. Naruto wanted to reach up and mimic Gaara's actions, but the nimble hands that traced his muscles, setting a delicious well-placed scratch here and there, the skilled mouth that had wandered over his neck down to his chest and nibbled just at the right spots, and the hot breath that ghosted over his skin and sent more than one shiver down his spine, made the blond's body become paralyzed.
Naruto didn't exactly know how he lost all his clothes or when he closed his eyes, but he opened them again when Gaara's hands and mouth left his body completely. Breathing heavily Naruto looked up asking to his still completely clothed lover. Gaara simply looked down at him observing. The redhead didn't move for some time and just eyed every part of Naruto from where he sat.
Blood rushed to the blond's face and he closed his legs immediately to shield his lower parts from Gaara's eyes and wrapped his arms around his legs. It was an absurd reaction seeing Gaara had seen his naked body already more than once, but there were still reflexes in the blond that triggered, especially when he was stared at like this.
Gaara furrowed his hairless brows and sent a half-hearted glare to Naruto.
"S-something up?" Naruto stuttered embarrassed and looked to the side, actually really fearing there was something upsetting the man he simply just wanted, but that stopped almost immediately after he was stripped of all his clothes.
From the corner of his eyes he saw red hair flying through the air. "No," Gaara added to the shake of his head. The redhead put his hands on Naruto's knees and pulled them apart until they were again resting on each side of him and put the blond's hands beside his head. "I just want to see your expressions," he whispered, his hand resting on Naruto's chest, "When you're in pain," and he pinched the blond's nipple hard.
Naruto gasped and opened his eyes wide in surprise. He was left breathless at the ting that the pain sent down to his groin.
If Gaara reacted also in any other way to his response, Naruto wasn't able to process the information, since he continued surprised, "and in pleasure," and rubbed the small nub experimental between his fingers.
The blond's head flew to the other side and he bit his lip to let the traitorous sound not escape his lips, but his body arched against Gaara's hand. However, he grunted and bit down so hard he even drew blood when Gaara's other hand slid up his inner thigh.
Suddenly Gaara's lips where beside his ear and the redhead's voice made Naruto shiver when he noted, "Last time you said I was silent and that you wanted to hear me. Now it's my turn to say 'I want to hear you'." He licked away the blood that accumulated on the blond's lips and the small, but still existing, pleased smile on Gaara's lips made Naruto nervous.
Those cold hands of Gaara wandered even higher and Naruto couldn't help the loud gasp when they dragged ever so slowly over the base of his erection.
"You seem to really enjoy this," the redhead stated and slid his fingers up to the tip, all the time observing Naruto's squirming expressions.
"Gaara, I feel -ngh!" His hip bucked when the thumb of the not-so-cold-anymore hand spread his precum over his tip. "… uncomfortable," he continued breathless, "… You're still fully clothed and … I lie here naked and … all," while those fingers dragged slowly up and down.
"Hmn." Green eyes watched Naruto squirm, but the redhead did not move.
Naruto reached for Gaara's hand, pushed it away from him and sat up. The redhead looked puzzled at him and Naruto answered the unspoken question sultry, "I don't want to feel uncomfortable when I'm with you." He stripped Gaara of his shirt. Cerulean eyes took in, what until now; only his hands were able to feel. His own tanned skin stood in contrast to the porcelain like skin of Gaara. Naruto gave his lover a feather-light kiss and unbuttoned and unzipped his jeans. He let his hand slip into the redhead's boxers and Gaara shivered and closed his eyes at the touch. Not only the pale man was able to be a tease. Naruto's fingers caressed his lover's abdomen, but the blond made sure to not touch his shaft. He chuckled and removed his hand to tug at the redhead's pants.
Gaara growled slightly annoyed and backed off. He pushed the blond once more to his back and got rid of his jeans fast. With greedy kisses and bites Gaara made his way up from the blond's stomach to his jaw. He grabbed Naruto's legs and shifted him into his lap.
Inwardly Naruto smiled to himself, he knew now what to do to make Gaara fasten things up. He just had to tease him a bit. His lover's dark eyes however unsettled him slightly. It was obvious Gaara had lost all his reasoning for the moment and though Naruto liked a bit of pain, he wasn't sure if he was in for it without neither preparation nor lube. He grabbed Gaara at his shoulders and reminded him, "Let me at least get the lube, okay?"
Gaara froze and after a short moment he nodded. It was impossible for Naruto to tell what the redhead thought, when he reached down to fish the bottle of lube from the bag under his bed and handed it to Gaara.
"I want to test something. It will hurt," Gaara mumbled absent-mindedly and stared at the lube.
Naruto nodded hesitant and wondered what was going on, but didn't ask. Ever since the redhead apparently noticed that Naruto liked the pain, he was somehow off. At the same time though, the blond didn't want to destroy their delicate moment again. It was already difficult enough now.
Gaara poured a generous amount of lube on his palm and covered his erection with it. "Try to relax," he said and positioned Naruto. "If it hurts too much, make me stop. If necessary, knock me out."
Naruto's eyes widened in shock, but he nodded and circled his arms around his lover's neck. Gaara's hands gripped his hips with bruising force. He cried out, when Gaara pushed the tip of his erection into him, but he was able to bear it. When Naruto didn't protest, Gaara thrust himself into him to the hilt in one move and groaned low. The blond cried out again, louder this time. It was a strange feeling of having Gaara inside him and though it hurt, it was also arousing. Through teary eyes Naruto saw, his redhead had a hard time restraining himself from moving.
Eventually Naruto was adjusted to Gaara. He signaled him with a small roll of his hips that he was allowed to move. The redhead moved out, making Naruto wince, and in again, earning a whine that turned into a moan at the end. Gaara started a slow but hard pace that made Naruto gasp for air. With every thrust it hurt less and soon the pain was just a numb feeling.
As soon as Naruto didn't cry out in pain anymore, Gaara began to alter the angle of his thrusts. At one point he hit a spot that made Naruto curl his toes and claw the redhead's back. Gaara smirked and kept that angle. Naruto cried out again, but now in lust. The loud moans and cries seemed to trigger something in the redhead, since his thrusts became faster and jerkier.
"Gaara, I'm gonna-" Naruto moaned. An especially hard thrust made him see white and cry out, "Gaa-!"
The redhead groaned and stilled his movements after a few more thrusts. He leaned down and gave his blond, who tried to catch his breath, a tender kiss.
...
It was their 5th day in the house now. Jiraiya had called on the 3rd day and persuaded Naruto into staying until he was back and saw his adoptee at least once. Kankuro was asked to manage the café for a whole week anyways, and so Gaara stayed with his blond.
The only bad point about the whole ordeal was, that no one knew when the old pervert would come home exactly. So it was sudden and at the same time had been foreseeable, when Naruto saw in the corner of his eye the house door open. Gaara however did not let him go, but only pressed him stronger against his back to the wall. Their tees were lost sometime between when they came home from buying groceries and the next free spot on a wall to lean against.
The old white-haired man cleared his throat, noted, "I think I need to change a few things and start to research," and went to his working room.
Naruto blinked just dumfounded at the old man while he walked past them.
"I told you, you should have told him I'm not a woman," Gaara purred into his ear and made Naruto have the blush of the century.
