S. POV. Two years later.
@ I glared down at the loser that had interrupted my rest. Did he really think he could take me on? Earlier just today, he had backed down from just my glare. What made him think he could possibly take me on now? I heard someone running toward the guy on the ground-what was his name again? Ah, yes. Sai. The footsteps sounded light, like a girl’s. I let my eyes wonder toward the little opening in time to see a familiar, pink-haired girl come through and take Sai by the collar. “Well, well, if it isn’t Sakura. . . .” I saw her back stiffen, her eyes widen and she turned her face up toward me. Her eyes were very wide and Naruto was the next one to come into my line of sight. He looked toward her, then up at me and his eyes, too, widened. “Sasuke!” An older man I did not know came after them. I ignored him, instead focusing on Naruto. “I see Starlight hasn’t come back. . . .” My tone was bored, uninterested, though at the core of it, I was asking if she’d been found. Naruto looked down. “No. She hasn’t returned at all. . . .” “Ah, too bad. I was looking forward to facing her in one last battle.” I ignored the pain that came from knowing she was gone. “But you’ve come searching for me.” “I won’t give up until you’re home!” “Hm,” I scoffed. “Did you not learn your lesson last time?” “I won’t lose you as a friend.” “Last time you nearly lost your life. You didn’t only because of a whim of mine.” I moved quickly, fast enough I know none of them had seen me move. I leant over Naruto, putting my arm around his neck to place my hand at his shoulder, leaning over him. “This time, you could lose your life on a whim.” I started withdrawing my sword. Sai blocked me, correctly, grabbing the arm I was unsheathing my sword with and blocking Naruto’s body at the same time. “The block you chose was correct,” I informed him, backing off momentarily. I turned to the other one, the one I did not know, swinging my sword to place it tight against his throat, right below his chin. “And you are . . . ?” “I’m Captain Yamato. I’m Kakashi-Sensei’s temporary replacement while he heals.” “I see.” I pulled the sword back and started to drive it forward- Someone grabbed my arm, not one of the four already here, pushing forward with their weight and unbalancing me. I stumbled back and the person that had basically ran into me fell backward. I was moving the sword around to attack and the sword went straight over their head-something for which I was grateful for a moment later. I was looking down at a battered, bloody, silver-haired, silver-eyed, very familiar looking girl. She had fallen back, landing on her ass, with her hands flat behind her back, head back as she looked up the length of me. Her eyes--eyes I once knew so well--widened. I stiffened. “So . . . you’re alive.” Her hand flew up to touch the hollow between her neck and shoulder and her eyes widened more. “I-I’m not . . . I’m not dead.” I raised one brow at that. “I can see that.” She looked back up at me. “W-are you . . . are you Sasuke?” “Yes.” Her hand convulsed over her shoulder. “T-then wh-why am I not . . . not dead?” “What the hell are you talking about?” “Star? Star, is that you? Oh, wow! You look like you’ve been through hell! Are you okay? Why are you so bloody? What happened to you? Where have you been?! What-” “Shut up, Naruto!” I growled, pointing my sword at him, not taking my eyes off her. He was right, though. She did look like she’d been through hell. “Where have you been, Star?” “I-I can’t-I should get going-if I don’t-” She started to get up. I placed my foot on her chest and pressed down, hard. She fell back to the ground with a gasp. “I will ask this once more. Where have you been?” She struggled against me, trying to move under my foot and I pressed down harder. “I can’t tell you!” She swung her leg out and caught mine, forcing me to back up and she jumped to her feet. “I have to go.” She turned to leave. I grabbed her by the back of the tattered dress, yanked her back. “You’re not going anywhere. I was just saying how it would be nice to have a chance to fight you.” She reached back to grab my wrist in one hand and my shoulder in the other. Her arms were thin, too thin, like she hadn’t eaten in a long time. I let her throw me over her shoulder, but I landed nicely on my feet. She was lowered in a fighting crouch. “You want to fight, Uchiha, let’s fight!” I dropped my sword. “First, I’m going to incapacitate you. Then you are going to answer all my questions about where the hell you’ve been.” “You’ll have to beat the answers out of me,” she hissed. The answer surprised a smile out of me. I fought it back. “Fine, then. Let’s go.” She moved fast enough that they lost sight of her, but I didn’t. I caught her fist before it hit me, foot-swept her feet out from under her and grabbed her around her waist to lift her off her feet and press her into the wall with one hand fisted in the front of the tattered dress and the other hand at her waist. She struggled, but I could tell she wasn’t strong enough to do anything. I studied her lips. They were nearly white. That meant she needed blood. “I see you haven’t had blood in a long time, Star. What’s happened? Run out of donors?” Her eyes flinched, something moved behind those eyes, something that I knew would’ve gone unnoticed by someone else. She was hiding something. My eyes narrowed. “Star. . . .” I dropped her slowly, took a step back. “What happened to you?” “Nothing.” “I know better than that. Do you think I’m a dunce like them?” “I’m fine, nothing’s happened!” “Why are you lying about this? I’m not stupid!” She pulled her fist back, hit me, hard. I let her. “You don’t have to know what happened, okay?! Just know that it did and I don’t want to talk about it!” She hit me again. The next time, I grabbed her wrist, kicked her feet out from under her and pushed her to the ground. “Stay down,” I said, placing my foot on her chest. She pushed at my foot, struggling. “No!” “You are in no condition to fight me. Stay down.” Someone lunged at me, then. Only by twisting my shoulder did Sai miss plunging his short sword into my arm. He shoved his shoulder against mine, pushing me away from Star. “Don’t touch her!” he said, standing in front of her protectively. I launched at him, pulling my fist back in a vicious punch that made him stumble back. “Don’t’ try to fight me. You’ll lose.” Meanwhile, Star was getting to her feet. Dammit. I kicked at Sai’s knee and, after he collapsed to his knees, whirled and grabbed her with one arm around her waist and arms and the other one around her throat. I turned her and slammed her against the rock wall. “You want to play it this way, fine.” I activated my Sharingan instantly and pulled her into my gaze. She fought it, which I was unsurprised about, but she lost quickly and badly, falling unconscious quickly. I caught her up, lifting her over one shoulder and going to retrieve my sword to re-sheath it. I turned to the other idiots. “Hm. How dull. You’re no match for me anymore.” I jumped quickly up to the edge I’d been on before. “I could finish you all off now, but lucky for you, I don’t have time.” I focused my Chakra and was gone a moment later. The scene in front of me changed to my own little hide-out, the place I often went when I wanted to be alone-which was quite often. The only way to enter was to go underground, through a hidden door in the ground. The only way it would open is if I ran my Chakra inside it to unlock the locks only I knew were there. I did so, quickly jumping down and heard the door close behind me. I carried her over to the bed. It was made, neat, as usual. I set her down silently, studying her. She was thin, much thinner than she was supposed to be. The dress was torn, bloody, filthy. There were holes and tears in it everywhere and the edges of it were frayed. There wasn’t much left of it. I ran my eyes down her. Her legs were thin and there was blood running down both sides of her legs. My eyes narrowed and I felt my anger rise. I pulled out one kunai, lifted the neckline away from her skin, slipped the kunai between her skin and the dress and sliced it clear down the middle, all the way down. I gripped the edge of the material, preparing to draw it away from her skin, but I didn’t expect what I saw when I did. Every inch of her body was either bruised or bloody. There wasn’t even a centimeter of her body that was clean. Once more, I felt my anger rise. The blood between her legs was more evident now. There were even bruises between her legs that led me to believe the blood was not a natural cause. I had to breathe evenly for a minute, eyes closed, before I could focus again. I studied the bruises on her, realized that a lot of them were handprints. I loosened my hand around the kunai and put it to my wrist, slicing quickly. I put my bleeding wrist to her lips, opening her mouth and letting my blood fall into her mouth. She twitched and her hands raised to hold my wrist to her mouth. She swallowed more than once, which let me know she was even more injured than she looked. She swallowed about three times and pulled back, licking the wound to heal it, cleaning her lips. She slowly let my wrist go, eyes opening even more slowly. Three blinks before she realized where she was. Then her eyes widened and she looked up at me. “S-S-where am I?” “You’re safe, Star.” She curled her legs toward her chest and, when her bare legs touched her bare chest, she looked down and her eyes widened more. “What the-what happened!?” “There wasn’t anything left of that dress.” “So?!” “What happened to you, Star?” She looked away. “Nothing.” “I will ask this once more. What the fuck happened to you?” Her hair fell in front of her face, making it nearly impossible to see her eyes. She shook her head, making more of her hair fall. I lifted her up, which caused her to stiffen, sat on the bed with her in my arms and pulled her into me. “You can tell me. I’m not going to let anyone hurt you.” “I-it doesn’t matter.” “It matters to me.” I put my hand to her chin, pushing up so I could see her eyes. Her eyes were tearing. “Just tell me.” “I-” Her eyes darted away and she started shivering. “It’s-it happened-I couldn’t-” After looking around the room, she raised her eyes to mine. She brought her hand up, holding something inside it. “Can-can you get this off?” I looked down. There was a necklace, besides the one I’d given her--seeing it put a smile on my face--and she had it in her hand. It was pure white. The cord was metal--which I knew she was allergic to. I took it into my palm and the moment I touched it, I knew it was a power restraint. I ran my Chakra through it, searching for the locks inside it. The instant my Chakra reached inside it, the necklace crumbled in my hands. I smiled. “It’s off.” There was a glistening in her eyes that gave way to tears now. She threw her arms around me, pressing against me, crying. “Thank you.” Her words came out a bit muddled. I put my arms around her tightly, holding her to me. “It’s okay, Star. What happened? Tell me.” “It was horrible! It’s been a year since I was free. I think it’s been three weeks since the last time I had blood and it’s been over a week since I’ve eaten anything and I never get any sleep anymore and when I do, I have nightmares. They just came out of nowhere. They used sleeping drugs on me and made me fall asleep and put the restraint on me and took me and they did-” There was a sound here that was close to a choking sob. “I don’t ever want to do that again. Never.” Her arms tightened around me. “I’ve missed you,” she whispered. “I’ve missed you more than you can imagine.” “Did they-did they rape you, Star?” She nodded mutely. I tightened my arms protectively, growling. “I’ll kill them.” “When I tried to fight back, they would beat me and starve me. I never stopped fighting, but now, I just . . . I can’t do this anymore! Everywhere I go, someone does this to me! Is this to be my fait? For the past year, I’ve been beaten, raped, starved. They did things to me I never want to remember. I just-I can’t do this! I can’t.” She shoved against me, but I didn’t let her go. “Why did you do this? Why?” “Star-” “Let go! You should just let me die. It would be what’s best.” Now I tightened my arms again, holding her tightly enough I almost thought she’d break. “I’ve lived two years, nearly three years, thinking you’re dead. Why would I let you die?” “Because I’m weak. I wasn’t able to stop my grandfather or the guys he gave me to and I was unable to stop them now. What’s the use anymore? What good am I if I can’t protect myself? I’m so tired, Sasuke. So very tired anymore. But I can’t sleep because of nightmares. I can’t do it anymore!” “Can’t do what?” I heard myself ask in a soft voice. “Live.” She was crying, shaking with the force of it. In the midst of all the crying and the shivering, she was shoving at me, trying to get free. “Star-” “Don’t. Don’t try to convince me it’s worth it because it’s not. You wasted your time on me. I’m not worth it. I told you, years ago, if you remember. I’m the wrong girl.” “Dammit! Listen to me here!” I pulled back to meet her eyes, feeling angry, desperate. “You’re worth it! You’re worth every minute of it. I spent two years, Star, two years, thinking you were dead. Now that I know you’re alive, you’re mistaken if you think I’m going to give you up! That’s not going to happen! Two years I’ve spent in a type of hell, thinking that you’d been killed, thinking I’d been too late. You’re alive and that’s going to stay that way! Do you hear me? You are not weak. If you were, how would you have survived this long? How would you have escaped? Why the hell can’t you see that?! You’re not weak! And I’ll be damned--hear me?--damned if I’m going to let you give up now! You are going to fight! And I will not take no as an answer.” I took her shoulders into my arms, moving back enough that I could see her. “I’ve come across you by accident, it seems, but by no way am I going to lose you by your choice! You’re worth it. Even if you’re not worth it to you, you’re worth it to me and you always will be! Listen to me, Star, and listen well. You are going to fight this because the girl I know would never just give up like this! What happened to the fiery spirit, the will to fight and find your sisters? What happened to you? Don’t let those assholes break what you are!” “That girl is dead, Sasuke. She’s not coming back,” she said softly. “No, you’re wrong.” My determination rose. “I’m looking at that girl right now and you are going to get up and fight this because I won’t let you do anything but.” I moved one hand up to her cheek, framing it gently. “Star, I lost you once. Please don’t make me lose you again. I won’t lose you again and I won’t let you think this. I’m going to be beside you every step of the way. You’re going to fight this and I’m going to help you.” “Can you do me one favor?” “Anything.” She looked down at herself. “I’d really-I’d like some-I mean . . . clothes.” “Yea, of course.” I got off the bed, then stopped. “Wait. First tell me what happened that day you vanished. If you tell me what happened, I’ll get you clothes and some food. Until then, I’m not going anywhere.” She looked down. “I can’t tell you.” “Yes you can.” She moved to face me, moving her hair to the side to reveal a mark in the shape of a crow on her neck. “No, I can’t. All I can say is I ran into Itachi. He told me some things that I think you should know, but he put this seal on me. I can’t tell you what he said. All I can tell you about it is I think you should really talk to him about the massacre. There’s more things about it than you know.” I touched it gently. “He took you away.” “Don’t blame him.” Her eyes pleaded with mine. “Don’t. Just ask him. Please, Sasuke. Do that for me. Okay? Just ask him what he said to me. Ask him why he took me. Ask him to tell you everything. He might, I don’t know. Just, please, ask him before you try to hurt him. Promise me you will.” I thought about it. “Why?” “Please, I can’t tell you why. Just do it. Please.” I gave a small nod. “Fine. I’ll do it. I’ll ask him.” I turned. “But first I’m going to find you something you can wear and you,” I reached down to pull her to her feet, “come, I’ll take you to where you can clean up.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
