They woke a short time later. Sakura's stuffy nose and headache were still there, but she refused to let it keep her in bed. Firmly placing a hand on Kakashi's chest so she could shower alone, she slipped into the bathroom and locked the door. It wouldn't keep him out if he really wanted in, but it got the point across.
Kakashi took a moment and pulled some pants on. Then he squatted in the middle of the floor, made the hand signs, bit his thumb and slammed his hand onto the floor.
"Yo, boss!" Pakkun appeared before him.
"Hello, Pakkun. I need you to take a message to Tsunade for me." He stood and went over to the small table. He pulled paper, ink and a brush out and made a quick note. Pakkun padded over to him and sat, sniffing.
"Who's here with you?" Pakkun asked.
"Sakura's here." Kakashi replied, distracted.
Pakkun's eyes widened. He sniffed again. "You...and the lady?"
Kakashi quirked an eyebrow at him. "What of it?"
"Nothin'." Pakkun wisely kept his mouth shut. He knew what would happen if he pissed off the boss. He's be scrounging for scraps for a week.
"Pakkun!" Sakura came out of the bathroom.
"Yo, Sakura!" He walked over to where she was sitting on the bed and hopped up. Sakura reached out and started scratching him behind the ears. He growled in pleasure and rolled over, so she started rubbing his belly.
"You're going to spoil him." Kakashi said with amusement.
"I'm already spoiled, boss. Leave the lady alone." He turned moony eyes up at Sakura. She rubbed him some more, then he rolled back over. "I think I'm in love."
"You can't have her, she's mine." At Pakkun's baleful look, he said, "okay, you can borrow her, but no funny stuff. Only ear scratching and belly rubs."
Sakura could have sworn the dog laughed. "What else am I gonna do? We're not even the same species. Sheesh!" He jumped down off the bed and sat patiently while Kakashi tucked the small scroll into his collar.
"Thanks, Pakkun." Kakashi said. "And I'll give you an extra treat or something when we get back."
Pakkun snorted, obviously used to that kind of lie. "Yeah, okay boss. Bye Sakura!" And the little dog poofed.
"What was that all about?" Sakura sinuses had cleared temporarily after the steamy shower she'd just taken. She went over to the wardrobe and pulled out her only other pair of shorts and top. She stopped by the dresser for her underwear, then sat on the edge of the bed. Her head swam and she breathed slowly in and out to try to clear it.
"I sent a status update to Tsunade." He stared at her. "What are you doing?" Kakashi asked.
She looked up at him confused. "What?"
He pointed at the clothes she had in one hand. "Oh." She said, looking down. "Getting dressed."
"I don't think so." He said with authority.
She looked up at him sharply. "I'm not up to any more right now."
He raised an eyebrow. "I'm not talking about that. You need to lay down. Get partially dressed if you must, but don't waste the energy on the rest." He plucked the pants and bra out of her hands and stuffed them back in the dresser drawer, then turned back to her.
She sat there staring at her shirt and panties, trying to decide if it was worth it. She shook her head and looked up at him sheepishly. "You're right." She yawned again and her stomach rumbled. She made a face, "body can't decide what it wants."
Kakashi solved it for her by picking her up and putting her back in bed. He pulled the towel away, settled her in and covered her up again. "Now, rest while I shower, since you wouldn't let me in with you." She chuckled and he kissed her quickly on the forehead before heading into the bathroom.
When he emerged a few minutes later, someone was knocking on the door. He wrapped the towel around his waist and opened the door a crack. It was the old lady again. "I have lunch for you, sweetie."
Kakshi stepped back and opened the door for her. She pulled her cart into the room again, and cleared the dishes from earlier before laying out bowls of ramen noodles with chicken and a fresh pot of tea. "Make sure she drinks that tea. It has herbs for healing that cold she's got."
He raised an eyebrow, but nodded. "I will. Thank you, very much for this." She waved him away and pushed the cart back out the door. He glanced around as she walked down the hall, but she disappeared around the corner of the side corridor.
He hung his towel up, then poured some tea for each of them. He brought it over to her side of the bed, then retrieved her ramen. She sat up -- carefully -- and he laid the tray across her lap with the ramen in it. He made his own tea and set himself up on the other side of the bed with her.
She glanced at him sideways. "I'm sorry." She said, quietly.
"What for?" He stared at her.
"Getting sick. It delays the mission and makes things difficult. I almost never get sick or, if I do, I can usually fix myself up pretty quickly. I don't know what's caused this." She shrugged and ate some of her ramen.
"Well, I can explain it. You hadn't slept well two nights in a row, you spent a very busy day - in and out of our room, then you healed not one, not two but five people. I'd say you were close to chakra exhaustion and had almost no immune system left." He paused to take a bite of his noodles. "Anyway, it doesn't matter. What I said earlier still holds. If we're to maintain cover as newlyweds, we would not be out shopping or whatever on a day like this. We'd be in here having sex."
Despite all they'd done over the last couple of days, she blushed. "You're right. I know it. I guess I'm just frustrated. I hate being like this."
He chuckled. "I can certainly understand that. I remember a few choice times that I got stuck in the hospital and couldn't leave. But you've got me to help and the sooner you rest, the sooner you get over it."
She nodded. "Okay. But I don't have to like it."
"If you said you did, I'd wonder if you were a clone." They laughed together and finished their ramen in companionable silence.
She napped again throughout the afternoon and felt a lot better by dinner time. Kakashi insisted on going out for something a little stronger for dinner and he brought back tempura. She felt good enough to sit up at the table in their room, so he laid the food out there and sat across from her.
"This is good. I needed something more solid. The soup and ramen were good, but..." she shrugged.
Kakashi nodded. "So, the rain has stopped. Would you like to try a walk outside? Fresh air and all that?"
Sakura thought it over and queried her body. She nodded. "I think I've probably built up enough chakra to heal what's left. I can't do anything major until I've rested some more, but at least I won't be sick."
Kakashi grinned evilly at her. "That's good."
She rolled her eyes, but couldn't help the spark of excitement that ran through her. "Well, there's not much else to do in this inn room."
Kakashi laughed. They finished their meal quickly, then Sakura got dressed. She sat on the end of the bed, concentrated her chakra and her hands glowed green. After moving over her head and sinuses, she checked her lungs and found everything cleared.
She sighed. "Oh, that's better. No major techniques or anything tonight, but I should be fine by morning."
"Good. Let's take that walk then, shall we?" He held his hand out to her and she took it as he led them out of the room. He locked the door behind them and they headed down the stairs.
The evening smelled fresh and clean, as it always seemed to after a good storm. Like Mother Nature cleaning herself of the nastiness and stench that any larger city caused. The streets had even been washed clean.
They walked slowly down the street, just taking in the cool night. "It is so nice after a rain. I love the smell. And the cool weather is so definitely welcome."
Kakashi nodded his agreement and wrapped his arm around her. They walked a little farther, but then she yawned and he steered them back. "You still need rest. Let's take it easy and we can do a lot more tomorrow."
Back in the room, they stretched out on the bed. Kakashi picked his book up to read a bit longer while Sakura curled up to him to nap once more. He managed to get into Jiraiya's book this time, but he couldn't seem to picture the heroine. Every time Jiraiya described her, he just put Sakura in her place.
He finished the book a couple of hours later, just as Sakura was stirring. "Oh, I needed that." She stretched and Kakashi's eye took on that heated look that Sakura was learning.
They fell asleep much later than they intended, but neither seemed to mind in the least.
