A/N: For now, I haven’t
re-read this chapter. I’ll do that soon
and if there are any ridiculous errors I’ll change them. I’m sorry it’s been so long in update. I’ve been really rolling on my originals and
I want to work those ideas while I have them.
Review Responses:
Ero Sennin: My muse doesn’t like easy. She’s making this pregnancy worse than any of
my 3. It’s not as bad as my cousin’s though,
at least not yet. I love you. You need to know that. Don’t worry about anyone else. :)
The Simi: Thanks for the holiday wishes! I’m glad you liked the last chapter. This chapter is kind of “awww” for the most
part. Hopefully everyone walks away with
some warm fuzzies.
Midnight Essence: Thanks for the wonderful review. I normally am so opposed to Mpreg, but
someone wanted that, and for some reason the story wanted it to work. It was also such a perfect way to bring
Minato in. I hope you like this chapter
and thanks so much for reading.
Qwerty: Thanks so much for reading. I hope you love this warm fuzzy chapter. The next one should be warm and fuzzy
too. Then who knows with my muse. :)
Chapter Fourteen
Naruto shifted as he dozed in the armchair. The documentary he’d been watching on the
Dust Bowl of the 1930s was interesting, but not enough to keep his
attention. He forced his eyes open to
glance at his watch. His dad was coming
today, and he had promised Sasuke he’d pick Minato up so Sasuke could
work. He was going to meet Sasuke at the
studio and introduce his father to all of their friends from this area. He sighed.
He really should get moving or he’d be late. It wasn’t like the airport was that big or
that far away, but he was really feeling rundown today. Sasuke had even ordered him to get extra rest
today.
He pushed himself up and headed for the shower, figuring he
had time enough to at least wash his hair quickly. He couldn’t believe the levels of exhaustion
he was feeling. It was, to say the
least, ridiculous. He quickly soaped and
dried before slipping into his normal ‘punk’ attire. He grabbed the keys to the Explorer. Sasuke had bought them a second vehicle so
they wouldn’t have to worry about needing to be somewhere at the same time with
only one car. Sasuke had the
Subaru. It was almost essential to have
a 4 wheel drive vehicle in the winter.
Naruto made it to the airport just as his father’s plane was
landing. He parked the car outside the
small terminal. He was surprised to see
more than just his father stepping off the plane. He couldn’t stop himself as he flung his arms
around Deidara’s neck. “You didn’t tell
me you were coming home!” He pulled back
and punched Deidara in the shoulder as hard as he could, “And don’t you ever
fucking do that to me again!”
Deidara smiled. “Nice
to see you too, Naruto.” He shook his
head at Naruto’s antics. “I got sent up
here with your dad to take some time away from it all; not that I wanted
that. Stupid Obito.”
Naruto’s smiled dropped. “What happened
to your hair?” He gasped and pinched at
the ends on Deidara’s now fairly short black and red hair. He pouted.
“I liked your hair before.”
Deidara crossed his arms and pouted. “Had to go into hiding for a while.”
Minato cleared his throat.
“I know you didn’t forget me, but do you think I can get a hug now?”
Naruto chuckled. “Of
course, Dad.” He wasn’t sure how or when
exactly he’d completely let go of the resentment toward his father or the
nervousness of not knowing how to act with his family. Right now, though, he was completely at
ease. Perhaps it was the knowledge his
dad cared enough to travel literally around the world at the drop of a hat to
make sure he was okay, or maybe it was Deidara being home safely. Whatever the reason, he was happy. He wrapped his arms around his dad’s neck in
a warm hug before pulling back. “We’ll
be headed to the studio.” He looked over
his shoulder at Deidara as he spoke.
“You don’t get to go into a room with Sasuke.” He smirked. “But I just might.”
Minato raised an eyebrow.
“Just something of an inside joke from the past.” Naruto smiled. “Everyone got everything? Good.
Let’s go!”
The drive across town was quick and uneventful, unless you
counted getting stopped at the traffic light.
Naruto had been living in North Dakota long enough that he did actually
count that as eventful. He parked the
Explorer outside the studio and smiled at the two men in the car. “You guys go ahead and go in. I’m going to grab a bite at the café for
Sasuke and me.”
Minato smiled. “You
sure you don’t want to have some company?”
Deidara laughed. “I’m
all ready on my way in. Naruto, take
your dad to the café. I’ll let Sasuke
know where you’re at.”
Naruto started walking to the building across the street
while his father followed behind.
“Thanks for coming, dad, but I really don’t think it’s necessary.” Naruto turned to smile at his father when
they made it across the street.
Minato shook his head.
“Of course it’s necessary.” He
slung his arm over Naruto’s shoulders.
“I’ve got so much to make up for.”
He pulled his arm back down and stuck it in his pocket. “How come we’ve never come here?” He
indicated the café.
Naruto laughed.
“Before our careers took off, Sasuke and I spent a lot of time
here. I guess we kind of save it for
when he’s working. It’s a bit of a
tradition. He’d be at work, and I’d come
visit and hang out and bring supper with me.”
Minato smiled. “I
know I’ve told you before, but I’m so glad you and Sasuke have each other. I can tell you make things right for each
other.” He sighed and shrugged. “I only wish I could have been in your life
when it would have made a difference.”
Naruto smiled and held his hand over the incision that
healing better every day. “I don’t. Not to be rude, and not that I wouldn’t
change it if I could, but look what you not being in my life has done for
me. I’ve got Kiba and the band; I have a
loving husband – or soon to be husband.”
He smiled. “And you came back
into my life at the perfect time, to give us the thing that would make our
family complete. It was something we had
both given up on.”
Minato smiled. “I’m
glad I could give you something.”
“You’ve given me a lot.”
Naruto smiled as he pushed the door open. “Hey, Asuma,” he said as he waved to the man
behind the counter. He turned back to
his dad. “Are you hungry?”
Minato nodded. “There
wasn’t much to eat on the flight that didn’t look like it would kill me.” He smiled and nudged Naruto’s shoulder.
Naruto laughed and turned back to the man behind the
counter. “Three specials and three mango
smoothies.”
Asuma nodded. “Sure,
Naruto. Who’s that?” He asked as he
turned around to start making the sandwiches.
Naruto smiled.
“Sorry, Asuma. This is my dad,
Minato Namikaze.” He smiled at his
dad. “Asuma is one of the first people I
met here. Sasuke took me here the first
night I ever spent in this town.”
Asuma wiped his hands on his pants before holding his hand
out to Minato. “I thought your dad died
when you were two.” He shook Minato’s
hand before starting to work on the smoothies.
“So, when did this happen?”
Naruto shrugged.
“Same time I got pregnant.”
Asuma’s mouth dropped open. “I seriously
thought that Sasuke was kidding when he said that. You’re a guy.”
Naruto nodded. “My
dad’s a scientist though, and figured out how to make me pregnant.”
Asuma handed Naruto a tray with their smoothies. He smirked and pulled a cup of milk out from
behind the counter and stuck it in the tray.
“Give that to Baki for me. I saw
Itachi bringing him into the studio earlier.”
Naruto nodded and grabbed the drinks and the bag with the
food that Asuma just set on the counter.
“We’ll be back sometime this weekend.
I know Sasuke has to work for the rest of the week.”
Asuma nodded and waved as they left the store. Minato opened the door while Naruto walked up
to the counter with their food. He
smiled as he saw all his friends in the store.
“Hey, guys.”
Kakashi came out of the back room. “Sasuke’s just about done. Did you bring me anything?”
Naruto stuck his tongue out at Kakashi. “Where’s Iruka?”
Iruka stuck his head out of the office door. “I’ve been busy running the books.” He stood up and walked around the counter to
pull Naruto into a hug. “I’ve missed
you. How are you? How are you holding up? This procedure is so weird, but I’m really
happy for you.” He smiled at Minato and
shook his hand. “Good to see you
again. Not that I’m complaining, but I
thought you were only coming once a month.
Seems like you’re up here every 2 weeks.”
Minato chuckled.
“Yeah, well. Now that I know
about my boy, I can’t seem to stay away.
Plus, he keeps having problems.
Like right now, he’s overly exhausted.”
Iruka nodded. “That’s
all right. I’m sure those boys like
having you close. I know they’re afraid
of anything happening to that bundle of joy.”
Sasuke popped out from his room, stopping the conversation, and
smiled. His client had snuck past
everyone while they were getting reacquainted.
Sasuke headed for Naruto, but was stopped when he heard Baki. “Uh na! Uh na!” Sasuke smirked. “Go, baby.
I can wait; he won’t.”
Naruto picked up Baki and they both made their way back to
Sasuke, with Baki hitched up on Naruto’s hip, babbling away. Sasuke smiled and pulled Naruto into a hug
and gave him a kiss on the forehead.
“Let’s eat, hm?”
Neji smirked as Shikamaru leaned over and whispered in his
ear. Sasuke growled. “What are you brats saying now?”
Shikamaru shrugged.
“I didn’t say anything.” He
smiled. “Except that I know what you
want to eat.”
Deidara laughed.
“See, Naruto, that’s how you turn something into a euphemism.”
Naruto huffed and crossed his arms over his chest the best
he could with Baki in his arms. “Well,
at least Baki still loves me.”
Baki smiled and grabbed Naruto’s shirt and grabbed the cup
of milk as Naruto poured it into his sippy cup.
“Uh Na I li.”
Naruto laughed. “I
didn’t know he learned new words.” He
smiled at Itachi and Hinata. “You really
do have a smart, beautiful baby.” Baki
pulled at Naruto’s shirt and started bouncing.
“All right, I’ll put you down.”
He set Baki on the ground and handed him his milk. He laughed when he noticed Baki walked over
to Hinata. “You didn’t tell me he was
walking!”
Minato watched his son carefully. It was obvious Naruto’s body was having a
hard time with the pregnancy by how much Sasuke described Naruto’s sleeping. He smiled as Naruto moved back toward Sasuke
and leaned across the counter to kiss his husband. “When are you having the wedding?”
Sasuke smiled. “We’re
going tomorrow actually. We were just
waiting until you showed up so you could be there. It’s just going to be a small ceremony at the
court house. Everyone who matters is
here. The band’s just at home tonight,
other than Hinata of course.” He wrapped
his arms around Naruto.
Minato smiled. “I’m
glad you are including me.” He smiled
and laughed at Baki who had just tried standing on his head. “I wish I could have seen you at that age,
Naruto. I think you would have been a
bit crazy.”
Naruto shook his head.
He moved to drink his smoothie and stumbled as his world melted to black. He blinked his eyes. His vision was fuzzy at best. “Sasuke?
Where are you, Sasuke?” His voice was full of panic. “Oh god, Sasuke!”
Sasuke’s arms went around Naruto’s shoulders tighter than
before. “I’m here, Nar. Shh, baby, I’m here.”
Naruto closed his eyes and leaned back against Sasuke’s
chest. “What happened?”
Minato sighed. “You
got yourself too worked up and passed out.”
He opened his bag he’d grabbed from the car. “Open your eyes again, Naruto.”
Naruto opened his eyes.
He saw a bright spot, but his vision was still cloudy. “It hurts.”
Minato frowned. “I’m
going to test your blood sugar, Naruto.”
He pulled out a small sugar tester.
“There’s going to be a prick on your finger.”
Temari piped up in hopes of lightening the situation, “That’s
what she said!”
Even Sasuke couldn’t help but chuckle at that. He smiled at his friend. “I needed that; thanks Tem.”
Naruto whined as his dad poked his finger. “What’s going on?”
Minato sighed. “You’re
only the fourth person to have this procedure done. It appears that your body is having a harder
time with this than anyone else so far.
Not that I’m happy that you are having a difficult time, but I am glad
that my study gets a bad case. It seems
that you’ve developed gestational diabetes already. It’s something that if it’s going to occur
should happen at 24-28 weeks.”
Naruto sighed. “I’ve
never done things the easy way.” He
reached his hands up behind him and held onto Sasuke’s neck. “Sorry, Sas.
I’ll do whatever I need to in order to make sure our baby is fine.”
Minato shrugged and looked at Sasuke. “Yep, his blood sugar is low. He got too excited and it caused him to black
out. The good thing is, this is very
manageable. He just needs to eat a good
diet, regardless of his cravings, and get some exercise daily.”
Naruto pouted. “So no
more waffles and gravy? Because I could
really go for that right now.”
Shino shook his head.
“That’s a good thing. Trust
me. The world is not ready for your
pregnant stomach.”
Sasuke frowned. “Are
you sure? I really hate not catering to
his every need right now. I’m so
thankful he’s going through this, and I just want to let him know every day.” He nuzzled Naruto’s neck affectionately. “I love you,” he whispered in Naruto’s ear as
his hands strayed to the very slightly puffy stomach.
Naruto smiled. His
dad told him to expect a poke. Minato
injected him with something. After a few
minutes, Minato spoke again, “Try opening your eyes again.”
Naruto blinked his eyes open and smiled. “I’m good.”
Minato shined a light in his eyes and nodded. “Okay, I’m going to give Sasuke a diet for
you, and you will follow it. If you have
a wicked craving that you can’t live through, you may have one a day. You must also walk at least half an hour each
day. When it gets too cold to walk outside,
you should find a way to simulate the walk you have been taking inside.”
Naruto nodded. “Sorry
for scaring everyone. I can see it on
all your faces.” He smiled as Baki
tripped over his feet and crawled over his tummy. He looked in Naruto’s face and smiled before
leaning down and giving a huge, wet, sloppy, drool-filled kiss to Naruto’s
nose. Baki babbled at him before saying
“uh na aaaaa bett” and standing back up to walk over to Itachi.
Temari giggled. “He’s
adorable.”
Sasuke sighed and held Naruto closer. When Naruto had started going down he’d leapt
over to keep him from hitting his head.
He’d never been more scared in his life.
He whispered into Naruto’s ear. “Let’s
stand up, all right? And then I’m going to
move you to the chair behind the counter.
I want you to sit and I want to be near you.”
Naruto smiled and nodded.
He let Sasuke stand up and then pushed off Sasuke’s arms as Sasuke
pushed up. When he was standing he
grabbed Sasuke’s arm to be sure his balance was on before sitting in the chair
Iruka had brought out behind the counter.
While Iruka was fussing with Naruto and Hinata, Sasuke pulled Minato off
to the side. “He’s really going to be
okay? This won’t hurt him or the baby?”
Minato frowned. “There
is risk to the baby, but only that baby has a higher chance of developing
diabetes themselves. Really it’s a very
manageable disease. There’s no reason to
be nervous. The only problem would be
preeclampsia, but I don’t think we need to talk about that now. We can talk when Naruto’s at home resting in
bed.”
Satisfied, Sasuke moved back to his future husband. “Do you want to call it an early night? I’m sure that Deidara and your dad would be
more than happy to bring you back to the house. I’ll be done here soon.”
Kakashi waved Sasuke off.
“Nonsense. Iruka would never
forgive me if I kept you here after this.”
Kakashi leaned down and gave the brunette a loving kiss across the scar
on his nose. “Besides, it’s a slow night
and Konohamaru needs to get his butt in gear around here anyway. If anyone walks in, I’ll call him in and
explain the situation.”
Sasuke smiled. “You
were the best father figure anyone could ever ask for, Kakashi.” He pulled Naruto to his feet and grabbed the
boxes of take out. “Anyone who wants to
can come over. Naruto can just go to bed
when he feels like and the rest of us can keep him awake.” He smirked as Naruto smacked his shoulder
gently.
Naruto did go to bed as soon as he finished his food. Itachi, Hinata, and Baki left shortly
after. Sasuke sat up with his friends
until nearly 2 AM. He smiled at Neji and
Shikamaru, who were beyond happy with their relationship still. Shino and Temari still hadn’t made it past
friends, and Sasuke was sure it was because they were both so shy. One wouldn’t normally associate Temari with
shy, but when it came to more than a casual fuck or someone who was just a
friend, she turned into a bit of a hermit.
Shino stretched as the movie they were watching ended. “I think we should all call it a night. Sasuke’s got to get into bed and get his rest
for tomorrow. Not that your piece of
paper is going to change anything, other than your tax status.”
Sasuke smirked. “You
guys meet us at the court house at 4:30.”
He smiled. “And after, we’re
going to the Gladstone. I know it’s not
super fancy, but it’s the best we’re going to do here.” He smiled.
“I didn’t tell Naruto about the reservations at the restaurant, so
please don’t tell him. I just wanted you
all to know so you would dress appropriately.”
Shino nodded and pulled Temari up. “Ready to go?” She nodded and hugged Sasuke. “Be careful.
I feel him again. He’s not
here. Just promise me you’ll be careful.”
Sasuke nodded. He
figured she was talking about Zetsu. It
wasn’t surprising, with the strong connection Deidara had with him at the
moment. “Okay, Temari. Get your rest.”
Sasuke closed the door behind his friends before turning to
his almost father-in-law and Deidara. “Deidara,
I want you to take Naruto tomorrow. I
have somewhere I need to stop before hand.”
He turned to Minato. “I’d like to
take you with me, if that’s all right?”
Minato nodded. “I
need to sleep now, though.” He squeezed
Sasuke’s shoulder. “He will be all
right. I promise. This is something that is normally very
safe. If anything, we may need to take
the baby a few weeks early, but the baby will still be healthy. We won’t have to take him or her before all
the organs are developed.”
Sasuke scrunched his face up. “Shouldn’t be a boy because of the Y
chromosome?”
Minato chuckled. “Science
never really entertained you, did it?”
Sasuke shook his head. “You both
have X and Y chromosomes. There is every
possibility you could have a girl.”
Sasuke paled. “We
wouldn’t know the first thing about a girl.
Oh god. I didn’t think about
it. What will we do if it’s a girl?”
Minato smiled and dropped his hand to his side. “You’ll love her. I know the two you enough now to be able to
say that with confidence.” He
smiled. “And I think you have enough
female influences to get help with anything you don’t understand.”
****************
Tama sighed. “Hanabi,
I needed to get out of the country already.
These are some serious guys after me.
You should have seen the way they slaughtered the Akatsuki family in Los
Angeles.”
Hanabi smiled from her perch on the window ledge. “I know, Tama. I just don’t want to let you go. I know it’s supposed to be no strings
attached. But the knowledge that you get
to hurt my sister, even if it’s only though Naruto, and I can’t do anything to
her just bothers me.”
She sighed and pulled the warm body behind her closer. “Your documents should be here by noon. I’ll get you on a flight as soon as possible.” She frowned.
“Watch out for Neji. He’s a
cousin, but I don’t think Hinata knows that.”
Tama smiled and nodded. He let his hand trail down her silky, naked
skin. “I can’t be more than I am,
Hanabi.” He leaned down and kissed her
neck. She moaned softly. He smirked and pulled back. “Thanks for the help. Want to get lunch before I have to go?”
Hanabi nodded. She
stood up and pulled her robe around her before lighting a cigarette and walking
toward the bathroom. “I’ll be out in an
hour or so; don’t feel like you have to wait here.”
Tama frowned. He
would like to be with her; she was so deliciously evil. It was just that he couldn’t do anything
until he knew he had taken care of the people who were after him. He needed to get to Naruto and get some money
and move to a continent so far away from the Uchihas that there was no chance
of an encounter with anyone in the organization. He sighed toward the bathroom and sat down on
Hanabi’s bed after pulling his clothes on.
When he was settled, he’d send for her.
She could be evil and devious anywhere.
