“Tonight will be a good night.” Kiba stretched walking along with Akamaru. “Warm spring evening, perfect for outdoor play.” He said and Akamaru whined. “Oh come on, you always get that way whenever I want to play.” His dog walked silently beside him. “Spring time is the best time to want to play, everything and everyone is ready for some form of romance, many willing to accept physical romance.” More silence. “We’ve got to get you talking buddy, its never really as much fun talking to myself all the time.”
“WRONG! Try again Ichiro!”
“Ichiro?” Kiba slowed his pace. There in the orange glow of the setting sun was a young lady dressed in white and navy blue with her hands on her hips. And in front of her was a mane of white he knew anywhere.
“Okay.” The boy rushed to the tree in front of him and removed several kunai embedded in them and took his place back just behind the young lady who then crouched down low. He took a running start and she jumped. He jumped to her level, jumped again off her back this time and threw the kunai when he reached the pinnacle of his height, aiming for a target drawn in the tree and all but one missed the target all together. “Tch…” He glared at the tree as if that were the tree’s fault he missed the target.
“Wrong again.” The young lady smirked.
“I know.” He dusted himself off.
“I could give you a hint if you let me see your Sharingan.”
“No thanks.”
“This is a site to see. Ichiro without his dear mother.” Kiba smirked as the girl looked away guiltily.
“Kiba-Kun.” Ichiro nodded and the girl horrified.
“He’s older than you. Stronger too!” She whispered harshly, complaining about the “Kun” Title… a child calling an adult “Kun”?
“He’s Kiba-Kun.” Ichiro didn’t even look at her. “Momma is in the hospital.” The statement brought a frown to the Dog-Nin’s face. “She’s visiting Midori-Niisan again. Has been all week.”
“Midori?”
“A boy from her home village. He’s been looking for her for two years now. He said he wants to take her back home.”
“Oh.”
“She might go, I think.”
“Ichiro, I have to go.” The girl said suddenly. This Time Ichiro faced her.
“Okay. Tomorrow, same time, Liza-Chan?”
“I’ll let you know in class tomorrow, okay.”
“Okay.” He waved and looked at Kiba. “Are you going to come for dinner later? You can meet Midori-Niisan, he‘s supposed to get discharged today.”
“I’ll think about it.” Kiba looked off to the side spying Kanna walking slowly. Her hands clasped in front of her as she slowly trudged in their direction. Her face full of some sort of sadness.
“Okay. Its good she has company again.” Ichiro smiled. “She’s been awfully lonely lately. I just really hope we don’t leave Konoha.”
“Only for a little while.” Kanna said nearing them.
“Momma.”
“We’re going to make a trip home. To visit your Uncle Jiro.” Kanna smiled a sad smile. “You’ll like him. Like you, he has that ability to be smarter than he should be at his age. I want to leave this weekend. We’ll spend two weeks away so maybe you should speak with your teachers about any mandatory work you need to bring with you.”
“Okay, momma.” Ichiro nodded.
“Kiba, are you coming to dinner? Hinata-Chan and Naruto-Kun are coming.”
“Ah… I guess.” Kiba scratched his head.
“That’s good. Shino came back today. I bumped into him when I went to my job this morning. So he’ll be there.” She smiled a bit brighter. “Dinner will be ready in an hour, so if you’re not busy with anything or anyone, stop in.” She nodded her farewell and walked off.
“Bye Kiba-Kun.” Ichiro waved and rushed off.
“Something’s wrong.” Kiba looked after the white haired female as she began to disappear in the distance. “Nothing about her just then was Kanna.”
*~*~*~
He was walking down the halls of his prison. Several guards surrounded him, making sure he doesn’t try to escape. As if he could. The bracelets around his wrists made sure that he would have nothing left but brute strength. Damn research squads and their ability to lock a person’s chakra within them so deep that a prisoner can’t even pull a flicker of it out. As for his brute strength, that would be easily overpowered with the number of Nin they kept on guard in case he does try something. Two long years with nothing but working and doing his assigned job. And, well whatever physical workout he could get.
“I told Naruto I don’t want to see him.” His frown remained in place as the door to the visitor’s area grew closer. His statement was met with silence. The guards don’t say anything to him as it is, why would they start now?
“You have an hour.”
“I never need it.” He watched the guard pull out a huge ring of keys and unlocked the door. The brightness of the light blinded him as he entered at first. By time he got to see his visitor the door was already locked behind him.
“Sasuke-Kun…” Her soft voice broke the heavy, awkward silence.
“Hinata-Chan.” Sasuke could almost smirk. This was a surprise. “To what do I owe this visit?”
“I come asking a favor.” Hinata remained glued to the seat she had taken while waiting for him.
“Sorry, I don’t involve myself in the romance affairs of Naruto. If you want him to notice you I suggest something drastic like… sex.” Almost disappointedly her cheeks barely pinkened. Darn, a few years ago she would be tomato red.
“That’s not why I’m here.” She continued to look in his general direction; her spine erect and a no-nonsense look in those pearly eyes. “I know you don’t want to be in here. I spoke it over with Tsunade-Sama, pleaded for this. She finally told me I needed to get you to agree in order for it to work out.”
“You pleaded for my release.” Now, things were getting interesting.
“At least probation.” She looked at him.
“And all this time I thought it was Naruto, but you’re no different from those other girls I guess.”
“You’ve met him; he told me you two met.” Her face barely flinched under his hard gaze.
“Him?”
“Ichiro.” Hinata looked at him determined to hide the nerves that were wracking so hard on the inside.
“Never met him.”
“A boy. Looks like he ought to be your child. Like any female you could have had, had nothing to do with conception.” Her eyes narrowed seeing the spark of recognition. “When this boy first exuded the skill of the Sharingan I of course thought of you. I had forgotten you had a brother.”
“You want me to train him.” Sasuke looked at her. She said nothing and that brought a smirk to his face. “Sorry, but I would rather that kid dead.”
“Your brother will kill that boy.” She stood. “I’ve thought about it for some time. Putting together the fragments of the story that Naruto told me.”
“Not ‘Naruto-Kun‘?” He teased her, again slight pink but she continued.
“Your brother wants you to be the one to avenge and kill him, or die trying.” Hinata crossed the room to the window and looked out of it. “He’s run out of time. Word has spread fast about him being hunted by the Akatsuki. His time was up and they plan on killing him for not killing Naruto.”
“So-”
“Assuming word spread as fast about Ichiro, your brother probably believes Ichiro is yours.” She looked back at him. “In a way, he’ll probably believe that by destroying Kanna and Ichiro he’s ruining YOUR family again. Training Ichiro would be ideal for you the most.”
“I have a chance at being out of here, and I have the perfect bait to find my brother. Is that the big plan?” He chuckled. “Sorry I have to decline. I don’t need bait to get my brother.”
“Think about it Sasuke-Kun.” She spoke up. “You’re to stay here for another few years, working off your punishment for something that other ninja have been killed over. Itachi is in need off power and could stroll through Konoha tomorrow, next week, or next month. And you are stuck in here with way too many babysitters and a band refusing to trickle even a little bit of chakra to take them on.” He turned away from her headed to the door.
“My apologies. It seems you’re not as useless as a person altogether. Answer is still no. GUARD!” He banged the door and left. As the door closed she couldn’t help but smirk.
“I’ll see you later Sasuke-Kun!” She waved at the closed door, before standing and making her own exit.
*~*~*
“Kanna, you have done pretty well for yourself.” Midori sat admiring the house.
“I struggled.” She smiled softly. “But Ichiro is a good boy, not so needy in material things. So I got to put it together with the occasional splurge.” Kanna smiled as the door opened.
“Kanna.”
“Shino.” Kanna smiled looking away from the stove. “How was your mission?” She smiled.
“It went well.”
“Wonderful!” She smiled. “Shino, this is Midori. A friend from my home village. Midori, this is Shino, he’s one of the three that found me when I had fallen ill that fateful day.”
“Nice meeting you.” Midori nodded to the male who sat.
“Hinata will be late; Godaime-Sama had some business for her to take care of.” Shino sat down. “And I think Kiba is planning to make an appearance, but he got side tracked.”
“Nothing New.” Kanna muttered setting food on the table. “After all he really doesn’t understand the term “self restraint”.”
“I don’t know. I think he understands the term quite well. I think he just may be one of those addicts, the kind that swaps one addiction for another one.”
“What’s Kiba-Kun addicted to?” Ichiro asked resting his cheek against his hand.
“Girls, Ichiro. Kiba is desperately addicted to girls.”
“Who would be addicted to girls?” The others laughed.
“I think guy who can’t get enough of exploring everything about different girls are the type to be addicted to girls. Like Kiba, He’s looking for a solid girlfriend I think, but he hasn’t been able to discover what it is that would keep him for good. So he checks out each and every single one who’s willing to give him the time of day and makes sure he’ll find whatever it is… unfortunately it hasn’t dawned on him to look above the belt.”
“Are you talking about me? I wasn’t even here to defend myself.” Kiba entered the house.
“Eh, no one worries about that anymore.” Kanna set the foods on the table. “Hey Akamaru.” She scratched behind the dog’s ear. “Kiba, this is Midori, he’s a boy from my home village. Midori, this is Kiba.”
“Hi.” Midori smiled and nodded. Kiba just looked at him which proceeded to make him really nervous.
“You’re awfully young. You’ve got to be what? Twelve?”
“I’m fifteen actually.” Midori smiled.
“Go on help yourselves!” Kanna set a plate down for Akamaru.
“Can I talk with you for a moment, Kanna?” Shino looked at her.
“Sure thing.” She pet Akamaru once more before her and the Bug-Nin walked off to another room in the house.
“Midori-Niisan.” Ichiro looked at him. “Do you really know my Grandparents and Uncle?”
“Hmm? Oh! Yes! I’ve been best friends with your mother and her brother for a long time. Your uncle is a good man, but his lungs are bad so he couldn’t travel this long way.”
“Oh.” The boy kept looking.
“Yes, I know he would LOVE to meet you. He has been worrying himself a long time. Is Kanna doing well? Is she alive, did her baby live? Has she found someone she could fall in love with? Is she happy?”
“He shouldn’t worry himself.” Ichiro then moved and proceeded to fill a plate with food and hand the plate to Midori, and then he fixed a plate for himself as Kiba fixed his own. “His lungs are bad; it may hurt other parts to him.”
“Yes, but that’s Jiro.” Midori smiled.
“Kanna left that village for a reason, why should she go back?”
“Yes, I know. We’ve spoken on that. She would consider returning to village for a visit. We’ll see.”
*~*~
“Don’t stress yourself out.” Shino blurted out immediately after closing the door behind them, it remained slightly ajar.
“Huh?”
“I can tell already. Something has got you stressed out.” He placed his hands on her shoulders.
“I’m sorry.” She looked at the hands touching her shoulders. That was new. Shino usually remained still as she hugged him or touched his arm when she speaks. “It’s just nerve-racking that after all this time, if they looked hard enough I could be found.”
“It’s okay. You’re not the minor you were when you came here; no one can force you back.” She looked at her reflection in his dark sunglasses.
“Don’t do that.” She took a step away from him.
“…”
“I know I should take him back, for a short visit. He should meet his family. They may love him, but that would only further upset me and make me dislike them more than I already do! Dammit Shino why did you have to pull me aside thinking things like that?”
“I didn’t.”
“Shino, shut up!” She started pacing. “I do miss Jiro, and my father but I’m sure she is still alive. Nothing that evil would die easily.” Her hands went to her white hair and started tugging.
“Kanna.” He grabbed her shoulders again. She pulled away.
“Shino, I have been trying so hard not to lose my mind, and I feel like I’m on the underdog’s side. Ichiro is my only anchor to reality and I know its unnatural to cling to him such a way but I feel like the moment he goes out there taking true missions, the moment he finds himself a girlfriend, the moment he’ll have to leave me for a long time, I’m gonna crack. And Ichiro will find his lunatic mother, on the floor alone and lost in her own mind.” She finally blinked and looked at Shino. “Shino, say something! Anything! Please!”
“You’re not cracking up, life is just hard. And most of all you’re afraid to be left alone. Last time you were alone someone took advantage of that.” His tone was even and flat as he remained glued to his spot unmoving. She just looked at him then at the floor.
“That’s low, Shino-”
“Raise your head.” Now his voice took a stern turn and up her head came. “You got the short end of the stick; you know that, I know that. We all know that.”
“So what? Doesn’t change anything, now I just know what to call it. Loneliness.” Moments passed and she shook her head. “This time your words don’t soothe the inner ache.” She made movement to pass him and rejoin the people eating her dinner.
“Do you trust me?” His left hand twitched.
“Stupid question.” She looked at him an ironic smile threatening to cross her lips. “Of course I trust you.”
“How much?” She looked up at the ceiling contemplating the question, her mind barely registering the sound of a zipper. “I guess with my li-” Her words cut off. She felt her body get jerked forward, lips pressed to her own.
