“Oh, Grandfather…” Hinata murmured, containing her nervousness quite well at seeing the old man.
“Dad.” Nanasa looked at her father who was currently giving her the most callous glare he could muster on short notice.
“Hinata-Chan, Go on outside, I have to talk with Nanasa.”
“Okay.” Hinata bowed and took off running. There was murder in the old man’s eyes, Hinata saw the instant she laid eyes on the man.
“Dad. You were supposed to be in Konoha.” Nanasa backed away, aware of the trouble she was in at the moment.
“Yes, of course but something told me not to trust you.” The old man looked at his daughter. “I told you, Hinata is no longer in your care, you were not to go near her, and yet you completely disregard order.”
“Father, please, I was only-”
“Disobeying what I have ordered you not to do.”
“But Hinata…”
“You know, I took what my lazy granddaughter said with a grain of salt.” The old man entered the room, Nanasa followed. “Close the door.” She trembled but did so anyway.
“What did that Ayumi say?”
“She mentioned a bitter mother. Bitter because her son wasn’t chosen as the next Kikankage.” He sat. “So she plotted to kill the next chosen, and inadvertently killed her sister.” Nanasa’s smile grew tight.
“She said I killed her mother?” Nanasa chuckled. “That preposterous! Why would I kill my own sister?”
“It’s what I thought as well, but thinking back you were Natsumi and Ayumi’s medic. Ayumi had grown ill, to the brink of death when suddenly she came back and Natsumi had come down with illness.”
“Natsumi’s illness came from pregnancy troubles. Her body never recovered from having that child.” Nanasa trembled as the man rose.
“I considered that since that’s what was being stated. But I went back and checked the files of the examination of Natsumi’s body. It took some time to search since they weren’t in the correct place. Matter of fact they were in the storage room where the old scrolls of when the inhabitants of this village were shamed by Konoha. Scrolls of our banishment. Scrolls of our failure in not only succeeding in what we were attempting but to get our redemption. Things never to see the light of day again, If I hadn‘t noticed in a moment of peace that the seal was redone incorrectly...” Nanasa turned pale looking at her father who now rose to his feet. “So tell me Nanasa, why were Natsumi’s files there?”
“Father-I-I.” Words were lost on her.
“How can you explain the loss of one daughter and a murder attempt on the next leader?” He grabbed her hair dragging her to her feet. “You have done a foolish thing you stupid, stupid child! This is punishable by death. If the elders hadn‘t been with me with that novice of a medic discovered them. I was to take action once the Chuunin exams were completed.”
“You would’ve covered my shamefulness again?” Nanasa looked at her father defiantly. “Always covering my foolishness. My son was to be killed once born but given to a family in this village. I had to watch him grown and struggle and learn from a distance never once knowing the love of his mother.” Nanasa was thrown away from the old man, who had more strength than one could guess with his old age “And Natsumi; perfect, precious Natsumi could never do any wrong when Natsumi was the one who ran off with that man. Natsumi was the one who eloped when you didn’t approve her marriage. Natsumi was the one forgiven when she came back six months pregnant. Natsumi was the one we celebrated for. Natsumi child was chosen as the next heir.” Nanasa looked away.
“Natsumi didn’t force you to commit those crimes.”
“She hid her symptoms well with her own medic knowledge. I wasn’t aware Natsumi was being poisoned and not that child.” She paused. “That child was chosen heir and would get the precious eyes of the Hyuuga and would be a great medic as my apprentice. I-if that man could’ve just gotten away and ditched the child in a moment of cowardice, rather than die his shame alone would’ve had a harsher impact. That child would continue to be a failure and would be overthrown as heir. Natsumi wouldn’t have had to die. Neither would I and this would be all under the rug.” Nanasa covered her mouth dread washing over her. She felt herself be apprehended.
“I had no clue my oldest child was so dark-hearted.” The old man looked away.
“The apple doesn’t fall far!”

“When did she learn to use a whip like that?” Liz watched the fight pass before her eyes. The young woman known as Ayumi-Lin throw the young man across the arena followed quickly by exploding tags.
“He’s not getting up.” One of the other competitors murmured. “His injuries far too great.”
“That girl…” Lan growled. “The old man said don’t use your eye masks, it might be a bit much.” He didn’t even hear the declaration of Ayumi being declared the winner of her round. No She was infuriating right now with her whips and new hair style.
“Congrats!” Liz giggled.
“Who do you think you are?”
“Still mad?” She lifted her eye mask and looked at Lan who was glaring.
“You come out of nowhere after a month showing off with your fanciful looks! Who would take you seriously as a Shinobi with so much going on! Your hair, your new weapon! You even showed out with your eye mask in place!” Lan was doing little to hide his irritation.
“When I win this thing…” She started. “… I’m going to win it big Lan, let them know what the Sight Village can do. But if I bite it, I’m giving it my all. Isn’t that the way it should be?” She then turned on the bystanders watching. “Same for you bastards. If you’re going to bring it! Bring it hard. This test is to replace wars, so go for it as if it were a war!”
“YEA!” Liz threw a fist in the air and flushed at her own enthusiasm.
“Must they be noisy?” TenTen rolled her eyes in disgust at the sound of Ayumi’s voice. Neji on the other hand wasn’t listening but rather watching Ayumi who just grinned back at him.
“Lee, it’s your turn.” Neji nudged the lanky male.
“Right! I’ll do my best!” Lee exited to the stadium.
“Go get him Lan.” Liz patted the boy on his back and he just stalked out onto the field.
“He won’t win.” Ayumi murmured.
“Don’t wish that on him!” Liz hissed. “What’s the matter with you, you’ve not been yourself!”
“Liz, you’re my friend right?” Ayumi smiled softly.
“Of course I am!”
“No I mean, really my friend. Like even if I do something and the whole village turns its back on me for a while?” The wind picked and white bangs danced beside the strands of black.
“You’re to be the next leader.” Liz looked at Ayumi unsure. “Your choices matter regardless of what people think.”
“That doesn’t answer my question.”
“Ayumi, what is going on here?!?” Liz grabbed the girl’s collar roughly. Ayumi just looked at her, face void of emotion.
“I need to know I can trust you to be on my side before divulging anything.” Ayumi held up a small vile of yellow fluid. It was small, about the size of her thumbnail. “Cuz’ if I can’t trust you then you will be shut out of my heart until the dust clears.”
“It’s got to do with that journal, doesn’t it?” Liz looked at her longtime friend.
“Take it in its entirety if I can trust you or not.” The two girl’s eyes stayed fixed on one another unblinking before the tiny bottle unscrewing the cap and dumping it all in her mouth.
“I swear if I lose my fight I will blame you.”
“You will not…”

The sun felt amazing on Hinata’s bare skin. She laid in the grass near the pond just outside of the village‘s limits.. It’s been a while since she’d trained like this. Years actually. Its easier now, her Shugo Hakke Rokujuuyonshu. Perhaps her training here at this village did indeed help her eons more than if she remained at Konohagakure. The question now was who to trust?
Ayumi said Nanasa was not to be trusted. Point taken, the woman had a very ominous air about her even all these years. Grandfather too, already treated Hinata like a precious treasure, and thinking back to when she first arrived, he knew plenty about Byakugan. In fact when he and Ayumi had introduced themselves wearing the eye masks his excitement and eagerness to house her jumped suddenly. The old man was not to be trusted either, then what about Ayumi?
True, the girl was like a sister to her. Ever since her arrival in the village the two were practically inseparable, training together, living together, eating together, and gossiping about boys together. But whatever Nanasa and the old man were up to was Ayumi in on the game as well? That thought alone just hurt.
“But she restored my full memories to me…” Hinata reasoned bringing a hand to her bare breast. “That was a risk alone.” Hinata murmured to herself. “By doing that I could run back to Konoha easily, to Hokage-Sam. But she said wait, didn’t she? Is she planning something?”
“She said the village was around here somewhere…” A voice grumbled followed by a heavy sigh. “She didn’t lie to me did she? I told her I wouldn’t do anything rash, Dattebayo.” Hinata gasped and proceeded to dress quickly. She was supposed to be alone.
“Naruto, what is the hurry?!?”
“But Sakura-Chaaaaan.”
“Sakura-Chan?” Hinata pulled her shirt back on peering through a bush. Carelessly the two were standing out in the open without cover much less being aware of their surroundings.
“We’re only here to see if she is indeed alive. Tsunade-Sama said she just needed to make sure that there is truth in what that girl said before she agrees.”
“Sakura-Chaaaaan.”
“No, you cannot just walk into unknown territory, thinking you could whisk, Hinata away, when this girl is trying to make a treaty. Something like that could ruin this all and possibly start a war.”
“How can a war start, this is a tiny unknown village.” Naruto sighed scratching his head, it was then Sakura punched Naruto in the back of his head.
“Konoha is a large village, with many enemies looking for a reason to abolish us. Many who whom COULD use this as a reason to war with us.”
“War? Treaty?” Hinata whispered to herself. “Ayumi?”
“I can’t wait to see Hinata-Chan again.”
“Why are you planning to marry her as soon as she’s set free?” Sakura scoffed, Hinata and Naruto both flushed.
“I didn’t say M-M-M-MARRIAGE!” Naruto pointed at the pinkette who merely laughed at the blonde.
“Just, treat her well; I’m sure she’ll fall in love with you again.” Sakura said. “Even a devoted girl like her would fall out of love with too many years apart.” Sakura stretched leaving Naruto to cool his jets in silence. “Well, Come on Naruto, let‘s find her. We have to hurry and get back before the exams are finished.”
“Wait.” Hinata’s tongue moved faster than her brain. She was still hiding and yet her voice called out to them. Immediately the two fell into stances of defense. Taking a deep breath, Hinata jumped from the bushes, her face crimson; her stance completely defenseless. There she was, Hyuuga Hinata, facing her first love and his first love.
“Hi-Hinata.”
