A/N: Hey y'all! It's Agami here. I'm terribly sorry for the lateness of this update. Some personal stuff in my life has made some delays in updates. Hopefully y'all will enjoy what happens in this chappie. I'll try to make it longish if possible. So, we'll see what happens. Hehes

Chapter 12
A few days have passed in which it's the time for when the new additions to the merfolk royal family will be born. What they aren't aware of is those from the other kingdom are about to set about an ambush for them. Thinking it will be a happy time is going to be slowly diminished. Currently, inside of the normal merfolk's castle, Sasuke approached his desired mate. Swimming up to sit beside him, wrapping an arm around him the ravenette can tell there must be some things on his mind.
"What's wrong?" Sasuke asked, frowning as he knew it would be time today or during the evening when the newborns would be hatched.
"Are we ready to even be parents?" Sighed Naruto, unsure of this considering what he truly is versus what he has become. "Will they be full merman or part human?"
"We won't know until they're out," admitted Sasuke, knowing it's not the answer the blonde wanted although it's the truth nonetheless.
Nodding, Naruto guessed there's no other answer he would receive to ease his nervousness. Eventually he felt a strong pain in his abdomen. Whimpering, Sasuke remained by his side. The mistress, Konan, came in to help with the process. It took several long hours until the cluster of eggs exited out of the blonde. Gingerly, he's given them to sit on to warm for an hour before each hatch to reveal small fish-like creatures that would eventually grow into merfolk themselves. Giving them some of the mixture that Sasuke had been given when he was a baby it helped them grow to the size of a human baby. The cluster is about seven in total with four of them being female and three being male.
"Congradulations," smiled the blue haired woman until then there's a loud commotion outside.
Peeking through the window, Sasuke frowned at noticing a battle had commenced. Gathering his children and husband with him to the emergency escape route he noticed that Sakura, Ino, and Gaara came with them as guards. The others would be uncertain if they survived or not. Managing to flee through the hidden passageway that led through an intricate system of pathways Gaara led them to where the right path would lead to the island he had seen Neji on. It would be far enough away where the killer merfolk wouldn't be able to track them down. Before they could go any further they are joined by Itachi and Deidara. It relieved Sasuke to know that his older brother managed to get away fast enough to join them before it would be too late.
Gaara gave an ushering motion with his hands. Following him, they managed to get away from the battle within a while of traveling. Carrying half of their children, Naruto knew that Sasuke carried the others. Hoping that they wouldn't be followed, the blonde feared for their lives along with their children's survival. When they reached the odd island located a far distance away from both merfolk kingdoms it seemed as if they succeeded in their mission. What both Uchiha's hoped is the rest managed to prevail instead of being captured. Knowing that Madara and Nagato should be capable of it before giving them a good fight somewhat eased their apprehension.
"Are you sure we'll be safe here?" Naruto couldn't help being skeptical about this considering they had narrowly escaped being caught in the fray.
"Yes, it is," confirmed Gaara, locating the pool near the den where Neji would be found. "Your shipmates wrecked on here. They should be found somewhere on this island."
"Are we bound to the water though?" Frowned Sakura, knowing that being creatures of the sea meant they're bound to it, wondering if Anko can be reached from here or if it's too far away to get in contact with the witch.
"I have a plan," spoke up Sasuke, fishing out something that looked like a dark liquid corked in a bottle. "Anko gave this to me in case of an emergency a long time ago. It was something she gifted me on one of my birthdays."
"Will it work?" Itachi questioned, wary of anything given by the witch although so far it seemed as if her methods are successful.
"Hn, it will," promised Sasuke. "It allows us to change into something that can walk on land and sea."
"Like what, hmph?" Deidara wanted to know, curious as to what that creature could be.
"Nagas."

"Damn it," hissed Sasori, noticing they had been unable to capture the princes along with their children nor either of the rulers of the opposing kingdom. "How the hell did we fail?"
"It's not a complete failure," corrected Hidan, having caught a shark-like male with Beaty onyx eyes. "I found this guy. He'll be able to track down those we couldn't find."
"Oh?" The redhead raised a brow, smirking in a pleased manner of his mate having accomplished something well for once.
"I'm not a total idiot you know," one of the silver haired male's brows twitched in annoyance. "So, this fucker can get them with some ease."
"Good," Sasori thought this wouldn't be a loss, having lost some of his soldiers thanks to Madara before he and his mate had managed to escape to wherever their children had fled to. "Find them at once."
"It's going to take some time," scowled Kisame. "it's not a sure fire thing that happens on demand, your highness."
Sighing in frustration, Sasori pinched the bridge of his nose, "Very well then. Take your time. Do not fail me or you will be punished severely."
"Understood," Kisame felt extremely nervous around him although he brushed it off, figuring that Sasori might be bluffing.
Furrowing his brows, he sniffed around the area. It would indeed take some time before he's found the correct trail. With their being a variety of different scents mixing it's hard for him to distinguish which ones are the right ones to follow. Swimming around, Kisame continued to sniff. About a half hour later he thought maybe he had found something that might work. Sasori and Hidan would have to retreat back to their home in the abysmal trench. Whenever Kisame figured out the location then he would report back to them. Until then the shark would continue on his way to seeing if he can track down his targets.

Outside of the den, Neji had went to go collect some coconuts. During his journey he had noticed multiple people had washed up on shore. Three of them he recognized. Two would be his missing cremates Sakura and Naruto. The third person he recognized is his mate, Gaara. Noticing their tails had gone in place of serpentine coils made the brunette wonder what happened. Slowly, each of them woke up to come to their senses. With a little practice they all figured out how to move around on their new appendages. Naruto and Sasuke held children in their arms along with Deidara.
"Come with me, ok? I'll take you back to the den. It's not safe to stay here on the shoreline," warned Neji, guiding them back to where he came from.
If they had stayed on the shore too long then they would've been spotted by a certain shark. Returning to the den, Neji introduced them to the beings that had taken him in. All of them shared their individual stories with one another. The cave itself is situated deep inside of the jungle terrain of the large island. It would be near to impossible for anyone considering to be one of their enemies to locate them.
"Are you sure it's safe here?" Fretted Naruto, using some of the coconut milk to feed the children, seeing that it seemed to be good for them.
"Just don't be on the shore then you are," reassured Neji, knowing their predicament meant that he needed to make sure they stayed here along with the surrounding places situated deep inside of the jungle.
"thanks," smiled Sakura, having one of Ino's arms wrapped around her, leaning against her girlfriend's shoulder.
"We'll be ok," promised the bleach blonde haired woman, knowing that they will as long as they stick together.
"Indeed we will," agreed itachi, holding Deidara close to his side, hoping that their fathers would be able to find them here.
But for how long?
A/N: Yays! Done with chappie twelve! Again, I'm terribly sorry for the long wait for this update of the Golden Shadow. Hopefully I can see about working on the next one after I have this put up. That's the plan for now. I'll see about working on the next one right after I have this up on fanfiction, ao3, and wattpad. I hope that sounds like a good idea with y'all as well.
