AN: So normally I would not bother with any kind of an Author’s Note, I want to spend my time ether writing or taking care of life.
Now I know that not everyone will like my story and that is fine, I’m not here to please the world, but if you feel so inclined to leave a review about what you don’t like, don’t waste your and my time by just saying something stupid like
“A bunch of bullshit is what I have to honestly call this story”
Or give a little rant about parts of my story that make it clear you did not pay attention to the story, actually try and make some valid points for me because yes I may have missed something, I don’t need to insult your intelligence when you do it for me.
But this also goes to all the positive reviews as well, I am glad you like my story but WHAT did you like? Tell me something that I can use to make my story better and please do be blunt and honest while still being respectful.
You can also discuss the story here http://www2.adultfanfiction.net/forum/index.php/topic/44563-when-a-heart-cracks/
As Ino and Sakura sat in a booth at a restaurant, Sakura couldn’t help but notice that Ino was shifting nervously in her seat.
Just as Sakura was about to say something, Ino took in a deep breath preparing to speak.
“Sakura, I don’t know how else to really say this or anything so I’m just going to say it.
Naruto knows us better than we think he does.”
“What do you mean he knows us better than we think he does?”
Sakura asked narrowing her eyes at her long time friend and rival.
“No one ever paid any attention to Naruto, but he was paying attention to us, to all of us, he saw things in us that we would never admit to or even accept as being true.
He still acted like that knuckle head and it played into his favor, it allowed him to see the masks that we used.”
“Ok so Naruto saw you without your mask on, I’m surprised he’s still alive to tell the story.”
Sakura joked, but Ino was not in the mood for the games they would normally play and gave her a look that told her she was trying to tell her something important.
“He could see the truth, that we were just a bunch of sheep following the crowd, he could tell that we didn’t love him.”
“What are you talking about Ino?”
“The other day when we were at the hospital, I went back to see him, I wanted to talk to him and apologise to him about all the things that I did in the past, about being a bitch to him for no good reason.
But what he told me, I didn’t know what to say really, it completely blew my mind.”
“What did he say Ino?”
“He said he never hated me and that I was just trying to protect myself in my own way and that like the other girls, we wanted to be a part of the in crowd and not an outsider like him. That it’s the real reason that we were fawning over Sasuke. But also because it was some one that was supposed to be strong, powerful and skilled and we wanted the title of being a part of an Elite clan like that and the idea of the estates that would come with the title.
That we only wanted him for what he was and had, but not who he was and I see that now. He never did show any interest in any one, he wasn’t exactly the nicest person to be around, always treating every one like a dead weight to him.
He was always a cold heartless ass to everyone.”
As Ino spoke she felt a weight lift off her shoulders and her heart.
Sakura lowered her eyes to the table in thought as she considered everything that Ino said.
“I take it he said the same about me too then.”
“Yeah he did, and thinking about it everything fits.
You remember when we were racing to get to the academy first to officially become ninja’s, how we pushed each other to our limits at who would win. I think that’s what happened with us and Sasuke; that we didn’t want to be left out, that like the other girls, we all wanted to be a part of something special and we became obsessed with the idea that we forgot the most important thing, who the person is.”
“I see, I guess there is no denying it then, Tsunade had a talk with me after that day, after Naruto killed Sasuke.
I was a mess and couldn’t stop crying, my heart was broken and I just couldn’t pull myself back together, I just cried but it wasn’t for Sauske, it was because of him and what he had done to Naruto, it was then that I realized how I didn’t actually ever love him and I stared to question why I would say that I did love him.
Naruto has always been so kind, at least until now.”
Sakura then started to rub her left shoulder having injured it during the little street brawl she and Naruto had.
“It is unfortunate that you are such a naive little girl, but some things cannot be helped.”
A man’s voice stated as if it was a well known fact.
Looking across from them they saw Daiki sitting at a barstool, the dragon elder was hunched forward as he waited for something.
“Daiki-Sama, I don’t think that’s really fair, granted we are young but that doesn’t mean she’s naive.”
Daiki’s green eyes shifted in their direction, a smug smile on his old wrinkled face.
“She is blind to the information that is presented right in front of her and still asks why; it is a perfect description for her.”
Just then a waiter holding six large take out bags emerged from the kitchen door and placed them on the counter next to the old man.
“I am sorry it took so long sir, but with an order of this size and variety, things took longer than expected.”
“That is perfectly alright, my brothers and sisters will not starve.”
Daiki then placed some money on the table and started to collect the bags of food.
“If you wish to learn more, you may follow me as long as you carry at least two of the bags, then we shall tell you anything that you wish to know.”
Both girls looked at each other for a moment then stood up and took two of the bags each.
After a short walk following Daiki, Sakura and Ino found that they were somewhere outside the forest of death where they took the second test of the Chuunin exam.
A little way off in the distance they could see the rest of the dragon warriors standing in three rows of four slowly practicing their martial arts together as if they faced an invisible enemy, moving as one they made several defensive gestures, always moving together in perfect sync.
Suddenly all twelve of the warriors jumped into the air and performed a round house kick followed by slamming their fists into the ground and following through with a leg sweep, punching and elbowing at the air, each of them moving at the exact same time, a perfect dance of death.
Their movements were flawless and it was evident that they had done this countless times over the years.
Faster and faster they moved, as Sakura and Ino got closer they could actually feel the wind created by the movements, the power behind each thrust would have been more than bone shattering.
Sakura shuddered as she thought of the damage that these people could do to a person’s body in simple hand to hand combat.
Daiki then started to unpack the bags of food, container after container of rice balls, fish and countless other foods started to pile up, all the while Sakura and Ino continued to watch the other warriors practice their combat moves.
“How long will they keep that up for?”
Ino asked not expecting an answer.
“Well let me see, I will have to think about that for a moment.”
The older man said getting the attention of the two young women, he then opened one of the containers full of rice; he then used his free hand to bring the smell up to his face as he closed his eyes, then slowly smiled.
“Right about now.”
Both girls looked at each other then turned to see the dragon warriors were now standing behind them, as trained as they were, Sakura and Ino never even noticed that Akio and the others had stopped training and moved behind them.
Akio and the others then bowed to the elder dragon warrior showing once again their respect to him.
“Master may we join you for lunch?”
Akio asked while in mid bow.
“That you may but only if you quit calling me master.”
“Yes master I shall try.”
Daiki just glared at him while the others eyes lit up but remained standing at attention having completed the bow.
“Hurry your ass up and eat already, all of you.”
Both Sakura and Ino just watched as the guests in their village very quietly sat down and started to eat, not one of them making any kind of conversation, even the two that had arrived with the old man didn’t speak.
“Akio what is your report on Naruto, you spoke to him a short time ago did you not?”
“Yes sir I did, his medical condition is currently stable but his mental state is another question, he has become increasingly frustrated by the situation as he is very limited in his ability to take any course of action.
This has also caused him to reflect on events of his past, so much so that old wounds of his heart have reopened again.”
“What kind of wounds?”
“The loss of his parents on his day of birth, he had come to accept the situation long ago but a constant reminder of what he does not and at the moment may not have, has opened his feelings to that once again.
This has also in turn caused him to again reflect on the events that lead to the death of his former friend Uchiha Sasuke, he now second guesses all of his actions in the past and wonders if there is not something wrong with him as time and time again, he has become the target of the universe.”
“So he is not happy here then?”
“From what we can tell Sir, Naruto was never happy, he has not been given the chance to experience any true happiness, only the few insignificant moments, very few people if any show him any kind of appreciation or gratitude for the things that he does do.”
Bishamon added.
“I see, ladies what do you make of this?”
As Daiki turned to them both Sakura and Ino felt the eyes of the dragon warriors shift to them, but what disturbed them both the most was how these strangers already knew more about their blond knuckle head of a friend than they did.
“I think that’s a fair interpretation.”
Ino said much to Sakura’s surprise, but even she had to admit it was true.
“Very well then, we shall see what can be done about that as well.”
Silence again filled the clearing they were in, Sakura then took a closer look at the visitors and noticed that they were all sitting and eating properly, no one talking with their mouth full, making disturbing noises while eating, it was ... disciplined.
“Daiki-Sama, may I ask you a question?”
Sakura asked nervously as he took a drink from a cup, only after finishing his drink did he look at her.
“That you may, in fact you may ask as many questions as you desire.”
Again the others looked at her waiting to hear her questions.
“Well I was kind of wondering why it is that we only now heard about you and your village, I’ve studied several books on the nations but I don’t remember reading anything about your village, but Kakashi-Sensei and the other adults know about you.”
“Ah that question.
You see our village after our ancestor merged with the dragon and protected it became self sufficient, meaning that we made everything in our own village, we almost never needed to trade with other villages or even step outside its growing walls, but that does not mean we did not.
Time and time again someone was in need of help, like many villages people would come to ours hoping to hire an able warrior to do a job, but unlike other villages we were very selective in our so called missions, only ones that were worthy of our skills would be accepted.
But they also had to be Honorable missions.”
“What do you mean Honorable missions?”
“A mission that was respectable, for example saving a villagers daughter from bandits, defending a small town from attack or bringing someone to justice for the crimes they had committed.
We would never attack a town or put innocent lives at risk, doing so would tarnish our honor and our clan in the process.
Do you understand?”
“So what you’re saying is that you would only take missions that were important and helped the general public, kind of like a police force.
But why are you not in any of the text books or anything about the demon country?”
“Because very few have ever been to our village, today ours is not on any map and we now use contacts in other towns to obtain any missions as required.
This makes us a myth, a legend that cannot be truly confirmed or denied.”
“I see, and I remember you telling Tsunade-Sama about your population and the number of warriors that you have, how can your village have such a large population?”
“That is a bit of a long explanation, you see Akio will soon be one hundred and twenty three, but he looks about the average age of thirty, in that time he has had several children, I am just under three hundred years old and I look as if I am in my eighties, in that time I have had nearly twenty children between five wives.
In one year a village about the size of Konoha has about fifty to one hundred babies born, we have about two or three hundred born each year, add in our longer life span we outnumber the population of several villages combined.”
“But if you have that many warriors, why didn’t you support us during the last war?”
Ino blurted out.
“Simple, we did not join because you and your generations need to see the horrors of war and the cost that comes with it so that you will avoid it at all costs the next time.
You see if we had helped you, committed all of our warriors to your cause, the enemy would have been crushed in the first battle and while the cause was honorable, the battles would have been meaningless.
As a child how often would your parents help you with tasks, at some point they had to stop so that you could see you did not need them to protect you, that you were strong enough to stand on your own or you would be stuck with your mother and father doing everything for you and you would learn nothing.
By letting you fight that war on your own, the five villages became stronger both on their own and united.”
“So you’re saying that by not helping in the war. You actually did help us?”
“Exactly, the five villages have now forged bonds with each other on the field of battle, fighting a common enemy, bleeding and dying together despite long lasting hatred of each other over past events, being forced into this has allowed that old hatred to be forgotten as it is now simply a part of the past.”
Akio then cleared his throat.
“The other thing that you must also consider is that the majority of our warriors have the average strength of the four and five tailed beasts as you call them, a smaller population of them have the average strength of the six and seven tails but only a very small portion of us have that close to the eight or nine tails.
Any war with us would result in massive death and destruction on our enemies part, but that in no way means that we are invincible our self, using the right ability, the right tactic, even the most powerful of individuals would fall, just as the ten tails did at the end of your war.”
“But aren’t you guys supposed to be warriors, isn’t war what you do?”
Every one of the dragon warriors started to laugh at Sakura’s foolish statement, Cho then stood up attracting the girl’s attention.
“Far from it, just because we are warriors does not mean we seek battle around every corner; that is a foolish misunderstanding as a warrior will only fight when they need to.
We are only interested in fighting our one true enemy, the enemy that all people must face regardless of nation, village or clan.”
Both Sakura and Ino were fixated on Cho, hearing that there was a great enemy out there that the dragons were more interested in fighting more than anything.
“Who is this enemy?”
Sakura asked.
“The one true enemy, the only enemy we have, our self.
As human beings we are all susceptible to all kinds of emotional and psychological instability, it is our job to make sure that we do not allow ourselves to be corrupted by our emotions, one simple fit of rage in any well trained Shinobi could be devastating to a village.”
“Is that why all of you are so closed off and cold?”
The dragons just looked at Sakura for a moment trying to understand her comment, but each of them drew a blank to her comment, all of them except for Daiki who simply laughed.
“You misunderstand my dear child, for you see we are all currently on duty.”
“On duty, what do you mean?”
“Because we are not in our village and are here as a request for a mission, every one of us is on duty, including me.
No different than an officer of the law on patrol, he must remain alert and able to perform his duty to the best of his ability, as such we are all on alert most of all seeing as how the cult is out there probably plotting an attack on the village and its people at this very moment.
If we drop our guard, that opens not only us but the ones that we wish to protect to an attack.”
“So if you were in your own village, then each of you would be livelier?”
Daiki then looked directly at Hisako until he had her full attention.
“At ease; and speak freely.”
Hisako grinned under her mask as she stretched, turned her head sideways causing it to crack, she then started to rub the back of her neck and proceeded to unhook clasps on her mask and eventually removed it.
Behind the mask was a young looking woman with shoulder length blood red hair, her skinny but youthful face resembled Shizune to a small degree, they could have been sisters.
Both Sakura and Ino could hardly believe that this was the woman under the mask, one of the deadly and highly skilled warriors from the dragon village.
Hisako then leaned back against Bishamon as if she was sitting in a chair and gave both girls a mischievous smile, hinting that they would be in for an interesting experience.
“So the two of you are medical ninja, you must work at the hospital too; tell me have you ever taken a peak?”
Both girls looked at her then blushed as they realized her question.
“I would never do anything like that, its disrespectful and an abuse of power.”
Sakura spat.
“Yeah what kind of people do you think we are?”
Ino added.
Hisako then burst out laughing but soon regained her composure.
“I think that you’re Human, that’s the kind of people I think you are, just like us you are not perfect, you are flawed chaotic creatures and will do things on a whim just like I will when it peaks my interest.
But I am not talking about molesting a patient who is unconscious or unable to defend themselves from your advances, I am simply taking a look at what’s under the covers, looking not touching.”
“Why are you telling us this?”
Ino asked trying to fight the blush.
“Because you appear to think that we are uptight or have some kind of a stick up our asses making us heartless and uncaring beings and that could not be farther from the truth.
We are just as human as you are; the only difference is that we have a greater understanding of things and have much more to worry about because of that.”
“So you’re trying to show us that even though you appear to be detached and cold, that there is a reason for it but that’s because you’re on a mission?”
Sakura asked still somewhat confused.
“In part you are correct.”
Daiki said while stretching his arms and legs out.
“You see because we have as much power as we do, our greatest fear is losing control of our selves much like a Jinchuuriki when he is engulfed by rage as I am sure you have seen with Naruto in the past.
All of our children when born have a seal placed on them to suppress the essence of the dragon, in short put it to sleep until such time as that child proves they can be trusted with the responsibility of having that much power, because the only ones that could stop one of our kind after losing control like that, is another one of us and that is a heavy weight to hold as none of us wish to be forced into fighting one of our children or have our family forced to fight us where anyone could be severely injured, anyone else that attempts to intervene would most likely be killed in the process.
We teach them at a very young age the importance of Honor, that their actions reflect on their parents and the rest of the village as a family.
Once they understand the code of Honor, we teach them the importance of discipline because an Honourless warrior cannot be trusted.
Once these two things have been obtained, the seal is released and the spirit of the dragon and all of its knowledge is slowly absorbed by the child at a pace that does not overload them with information or power all at once, such a thing would be extremely dangerous.”
“That actually explains a lot, if you think about it. I’ve never thought about the kind of burden that people like Naruto or you would have to face, always having to fight with yourself to maintain control like that has to be rather troublesome.”
Ino said thinking back to all the times that Naruto struggled with the Kyuubi and nearly lost control.
“There is a difference between the Jinchuuriki and our selves, being that the dragon inside us does not try to take control of us but that we may be corrupted by the sudden increase in our power, suddenly being able to do things that we could not.
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
But I think that is enough information today, there is still much to be done, so if you lovely ladies would excuse us we must be on our way.”
Daiki and the others then began to systematically dash into the forest and disappeared.
A few hours later as dusk started to set in, Hinata was just about to enter the new Hyuuga compound when she was suddenly startled by several figures dashing past her and into the compound, just as they disappeared over the wall there came an explosion from the inside.
Fearing for her friends and family in the clan, Hinata rushed in and headed in the direction of the explosion, as she got closer and closer she was horrified as she realized that it was in the direction of her clan’s clinic, It mostly treated sick children leaving the hospital beds open for emergencies and also meant the parents would not have to travel all the way to the hospital just to see their kids.
As Hinata came around the last corner she could see that it was indeed the clinic and it was on fire, but sprawled across the grounds were several bodies of people in white cloaks, at first she thought they were the bodies of the medical staff but as she got closer, she saw they were not medical or even ninja from the village, all of them had blank blood red Noh masks on.
Suddenly there came another explosion, turning she saw a rather large fireball rise up into the sky that was in the direction of the Hokage tower.
Hinata was torn between staying where she was and going to Tsunade’s side, but because she was the Hokage, she probably had an army of ANBU agents hidden to protect her, besides she was on the other side of the village and she could be of help here and now.
Whoever these people were, they must have been responsible for the attacks, but whoever or whatever attacked them, ripped them apart, they were not simply killed, they were butchered, even Kiba and Akamaru weren’t capable of this much damage or brutality.
One of the intruders was even missing half of his ribcage as what was left of his insides had spilled on the ground.
Suddenly Hinata felt a presence behind her, turning she saw another masked man lunging at her with a Kunai poised as he came in for the kill, but as the would be assassin closed in, something from the shadows intercepted him.
The man suddenly screamed out in pain as he was kicked to the ground, slowly he stood up and leaned against a tree that he landed next to and was suddenly attacked by the shadowed figure as he swung a Kama from his right hand and slammed the bladed weapon into the side of the enemies ribcage, imbedding the foot long blade inside the body of the cult member.
The shadow then quickly brought his right hand down and pierced another Kama between the collarbone and shoulder of his target, just as quickly he pulled the first one out of the ribcage and drove it into the opposite shoulder and pulled the masked man downwards as he drove his left knee up into the man’s face.
As the cult member fell backwards, the shadow pulled the Kama’s out of his enemy, crossed his weapons so that the bladed side of each weapon was resting next to the man’s neck and in a single motion, severed his head as he pulled the weapons through his neck.
Hinata could see the headless body fall to the ground as blood continued to spit out as if the heart was still beating inside trying to supply the head with blood, unaware that it was now severed.
As the shadowy figure looked at the dead body at his feet he kicked dirt at it as a final sign of disrespect before making his way to the very horrified Hyuuga heiress.
As he got closer Hinata could finally see that it was Juro, one of the dragon warriors that had saved her, his dragon eye power staring back at her from under his green mask, seeing her in this state he tilted his head at her then looked back to the body.
“They were targeting that clinic in the hopes of killing many sick children to dwindle your numbers in the future, such a crime targeting children, most of all the sick and defenceless is unforgiveable, having started this war, they shall reap what they sew, they will receive no mercy from us.”
“Y-yes I understand.”
Hinata replied in a somewhat shaky voice.
“My team is cleaning up the rest of them alongside several of your fellow clan members, our ambush had performed perfectly, and I can only assume it is the same at the second location.
We must hurry and clean up this scum and protect their main target.”
“Who's their main target?”
Hinata asked somewhat confused.
“The one they seek to kill above all else, is our brother Naruto.”
Hinata’s heart suddenly grew cold at the thought of the man she loved being attacked in his current state, being unable to defend himself with anything other than Taijutsu.
Just then there came a loud and powerful, savage roar that was full of rage and pride at the same time and echoed throughout the village.
“It would appear that Bishamon has encountered the enemy, I almost pity the fools and wish I could watch the slaughter that is about to unfold.”
As Sakura was leaving the hospital from her last shift she was greeted by Amaru who quickly ran up to her.
“Hi Sakura-Chan, how was your shift?”
The fellow medic asked
“Hey Amaru-Chan, it’s been a busy few days but nothing a hot meal and warm bath can’t cure, how are you settling in at the hospital?”
“It’s been a little challenging, everyone expects me to use medical jutsu for every little scratch, and honestly I don’t see the practicality in that at all, you’re just wasting chakra when a simple bandage would do the same job.”
Amaru complained as she and Sakura started to walk towards the shopping district for a late night dinner as it was becoming a tradition for them, this way Amaru could sit with Sakura and the two of them could compare notes and give each other pointers based on their own experiences as medics.
Just as they crossed into the next street there came a loud explosion on the other side of town, both looked as a large fireball rose up into the sky.
“That came from the Hyuuga compound; come on Amaru there might be people in need of medical attention.”
Sakura said as all notions of her good mood changed to that of someone who had a job to do.
The two of them started running down the street towards the explosion when there came another, this one was at the Hokage tower, seeing as that the second explosion was closer the two medics headed in that direction.
When they arrived outside the Hokage tower, both girls were horrified to see the carnage in front of them, several bodies of unknown people were ripped to shreds, their guts spilled all over the ground.
In the middle of the road just outside the Hokage’s tower a lone figure armed with a Naginata stood in a combative stance as six people with white cloaks charged in at him from the shadows.
Holding his position the figure began to cut the enemy down with his staffed blade, slashing each enemy several times before they fell to the ground, every hit to the enemy was a critical blow, cutting open stomachs, slicing throats and chests, he even managed to decapitate two and sever the arm of another.
Each of the attackers was now dead, slashed to ribbons by the figure that then turned his attention to the two young women.
Sakura then recognized that it was the dragon warrior Hiroshi, she only remembered him because of his silver and blue mask.
“Sakura, we have things under control here, the cultists tried to assassinate Priestess Shion as a decoy, Tsunade is tending to the injured, please find Naruto, he is their real target.
Just then there came a loud roar that echoed through the village, it was raw with power and rage.
Akio and the other members of his team along with Kakashi and a few other leaf Shinobi rushed to their location having dispatched the remaining invaders.
“It would appear Bishamon has engaged the enemy, I only hope he was not too late to save Naruto, come my friends we must hurry.”
Akio commanded as the defenders of the village leapt to the closest roof, then dashed from roof top to roof top at speeds turning the figures into blurred shapes that disappeared as they headed to the location of the unfolding battle.
