“Why have you come here?” Tsunade pressed her fingers together looking at the white haired female who was sitting on her window sill.
“To work out a deal.” The young woman smiled. “You see I already told that delicious looking long haired boy and his friend… my sister isn’t my sister. And it seems she has real family in this village.”
“That so?”
“I believe by now you already know.” Ayame let the wind blow her white hair, it moved like silk.
“What is it you think I know?”
“Hm. Perhaps I was mistaken.” Ayame looked to her side and gave a soft smile. “I guess perhaps that cute blonde boy who lives with you would like to hear all about Hinata.”
“Why have you come here?” Tsunade narrowed her eyes at the girl.
“Don’t look so angry at me, Tsunade-Sama. I didn’t come here to threaten you. I am actually quite fond of your work.” Ayame smiled. “All my life I’ve been raised to be a Medic-Nin. I’m pretty good at it. I hope to make a name for myself like you someday.” She smiled wistfully. “But I can never accomplish that by achieving my grandfather’s sadistic dreams.” Now this was really interesting.
“Your grandfather’s?”
“A long time ago, I was still a child Medic-Nin at the age of… I’ll say six, maybe seven. My father was ordered to kidnap a child, this child’s father could cure my mother’s illness, at least that’s what we were told. But the child’s father was a true unfeeling being, or so it was rumored. Desperate to save my mother’s life he attempted to kidnap the child, a little girl I later found out about. Well, my father was killed. The elders got indignant. “That man is the father of our next head and he was cruelly stripped away from the child. We want justice. We want the head of the one who had him killed.” They said. Sometime later I was presented with the body of a man I’d never seen before.” Ayame tucked some hair behind her ear.
“They said this man had special eyes. Eyes that were meant for me and me alone. They’d make me more special. But in order for the ceremony to properly work I had to cut them free myself. Terrified I tried, the first incision released a poison that destroyed his eyes. Either way I continued my medic studies and I’m very good at it.” Ayame looked at Tsunade who was listening intently. “But can you imagine my surprise when I got a new sister with no memory of her past life. My grandfather overjoyed. He has a second chance at what he initially began. Now older and wiser, I don’t agree. So I want to give her back to the family that never forgot her. But it won’t be easy.”
“No it won’t. Moreover, what do you want?” Tsunade narrowed her eyes.
“A proper agreement between villages. My Grandfather’s time is short. He won’t make the year.”
“He appears in proper health.”
“He won’t make the year sadly and that’s naturally.”
“I want to merge my village with Konohagakure.” She smirked. “A true merge.”
“Are you talking about that kind of contract.”
“I believe it most proper. Its more binding.”
“That gives too much power to the two involved.”
“It what I wish for. It a proper allegiance.”
“I see…”
“Think about it. Now Excuse me, I have a delicious young man to visit, inform him of my intentions.”
“I’ll tell him.”
“Its more fun if I tell him.” And like that, she was gone.
*~*~*
{One Month Later}
It was time to make that trip back to Konohagakure and the Sight villagers were on edge. Maybe if the seniors that remained spoke of the village’s ability to flourish if all went well. It got the younger ones excited and other hopeful Shinobi that couldn’t participate in the Chuunin exams this time prepared for the next time, wanting nothing more than to add to the village pride, wishing it were them that brought up the pride this time, that it were them who would bring Kikan to the world!
“She’s not back yet.” Liz sat with Hinata.
“I knew she wouldn’t be.” Hinata smiled softly. “She’s got something to prove now. If she does poorly here, how will it look for her who needs to lead this village.” Hinata finally stood and stretched.
“This is for you.” Liz said softly pulling out a sachet from her things. “If she didn’t come back in time, this was to be given to you. From her… Perhaps she’s worried about the opponents.”
“Thank you, but she shouldn’t worry, she’s able to do great things. That’s something I always knew about my sister.” Hinata opened up the sachet bag pausing when her fingers touched the white string. No, pause isn’t right, more like spaced out entirely until Liz Shook her.
“Hinata-Chan?” Liz looked at her.
“Oh, it-it’s nothing.” Hinata turned to her, her smile tight on her face. “Let’s get walking so I can wish you a farewell when you, Lan and the Kikankage leave.”
That was the last conversation the cat-like female had with the gentle female. That had been the day before and they had arrived in Konoha a day early to be well rested for the following day. The opening ceremony had begun and ended. Her fight was second to take place and the first one had already commenced.
“Maybe she died on that big training journey she had taken.” Lan spoke drawing the attention of all the other participants.
“Don’t say that!” Liz whispered sharply hoping to keep some form of discretion.
“It would only prove what I’ve been trying to tell everyone since she got chosen for the next leader.” Lan looked at her with a glare. “She has all that chakra ability, and a mind to adjust when the situation calls for it, but she is lacking true skill. No abilities of her own, she is doomed to be a no talent ninja till the day she dies and she will only take the rest of the village down with her.” Liz looked at him.
“Ah… so that’s why you never liked me at all. This is about losing out to me that day years ago…”
“Ayumi-Chan!” Liz looked at the girl who was currently approaching them. Her white hair was in four pigtails all of them sectioned off on the back of her head and two long pieces framed her face connected by the straight cut bang that reached her eyebrows. On her face… her eye mask.
“Geeze and I thought you were a man, but you are nothing but a spoiled BOY.” Her hand smoothed over her hair and down the front of her body and to her side where two whips sat at either hip.
“Whatever…”
“Or is your problem with that night?” He looked away. She rubbed his shoulder. “Don’t worry… I still love you.” The audience broke into an uproar as TenTen won her fight.
“Shut up.” He gave her a look, as if she could see it anyway.
“Oh be nice… I have to, we‘re bonded… by blood.”
“Shut up!” He snarled at her.
“Ah… I thought you’d come around after I got back from my trip.” She stretched a bit. “Ah well…” She made way to the arena to face her first competitor.
“Useless woman…”
*~*~*~*~
“N-Naruto-Kun…” Hinata whispered softly to herself sipping the tea in the table before her was the sachet Ayumi had left for her. Inside had been a small bottle of pink solution. When she touched the bag she saw in her mind, Ayumi.
“Just drink every last drop of it. I can’t do much for the taste, but it has to be done. Your life depends on it.” Ayumi looked panicked. “The life you had before meeting us, and the life you will have when you’re gone from here will depend on this and following my plans exactly. I can’t say more, so wait for me and don’t trust anyone from my family.”
“I remember…” She whispered to herself.
Yes, she remembered. She remembered her cousin Neji who attempted to kill her during the Chuunin exams. She remembered her father who always looked at her with such disdain, wishing for her death when she began her life as a Shinobi. She remembered her sister who always worked so hard for the father who praised her, always worn out looking, never saying a word to her older sister. She remember Kiba and dimly wondered what kind of man did he turn out to be, was he still wild? And Shino who always had simple words of encouragement for her. Did they miss her? What about Kurenai-Sensei? But most of all she remembered, her idolized Ninja… Naruto-Kun. Was he still the same? How much did HE change? Has he found a girl to fall for in her absence? Will she still love him when she sees him again?
“Hinata-Chan?” The door opened, Nanasa had entered the room with a tray of tea. “I’ve brought you some tea.
“Oh!” The girl gave an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry, I’ve already had some brought to me.” Emphasizing the point the Hyuuga female proceeded to pour more for herself.
“I see…” Nanasa looked away and then smiled. “May I join you?”
“Of course. I won’t be sitting much longer. I’ve gotten so used to training with Liz daily for the Chuunin exams I’m kind of antsy sitting around.”
“Do you wish you could have gone?” Nanasa sat across from her lifting a tea cup to her lips from the tray she brought in.
“To the Chuunin Exams?” Hinata looked at her. “I do, but I must not be good enough to go just yet.”
“I think you are.” Nanasa sighed.
“Yo-You do?”
“Of course.” The smile on the woman’s face remained. “But it was Ayumi who requested you not go.”
“A-Ayumi?”
“Oh yes. She’s been jealous of you.”
“Of me?”
“Of course. You two are sisters. You know of her feelings for Lan.” Hinata looked at the woman.
“For Lan? Yes, she was hopelessly in love with him”
“Well, Lan is in love with you.”
“I have heard about that.” Hinata smiled softly. “But she’s getting over him. Something about a new boy.”
“And you’re much stronger than her.”
“I’m not.” Hinata flushed.
“Oh but you are.” Nanasa reached out and touched her hand. Hinata pulled her hand back and scratched the side of her neck, the move looked more natural than the intent behind it.
“But I still understand. She is to be the next Kikankage. She needs to be strong with strong Shinobi as well, right?”
“I suppose. Have you ever been to Konoha, Hinata?”
“Konoha?”
“Yes, Konohagakure.” Nanasa smiled.
“No, can’t say that I have.” Hinata smiled and finished off her tea.
“Would you like to go?” Nanasa looked at her and Hinata turned her gaze out the window.
“I want to go outside. A young flower like me would wilt without sunlight. Maybe you should get some sun too.” Hinata smiled and stood. “I’m going now!”
“Wait!” Nanasa all but tripped over herself to grab Hinata’s wrist.
“Come on… the sun will be good for you.” Hinata kept walking just out of reach.
