Disclaimer: I do not and will never own Naruto. I also dont make any money from writing this |
Okay so I wanted to do more in the last chapter and add a few more notes from Sasuke to various people but it just got to long but I think it was still alright.
AngelTalion I can’t believe you cried in the last chapter, at least I know I did a good job with it now.
Also if you’re going to review I really would like to hear more about what you thought of the end. I rewrote it five times and am thinking about taking this chapter off and re writing it again.

Gaara glanced at the clock by the bedside table of his room at the inn he and his siblings were staying in at Konoha and sighed, it was an hour until Uchiha’s funeral, and he thought that he should probably get up and get ready.
The Kazekage laid out his clothes before dropping his sand armour on the floor and getting in the shower deciding that he probably wouldn’t feel like washing afterward and most likely would not get time, having to return to Suna as soon as possible regardless of whether he wanted to stay or not.
Gaara sighed and turned off the facets , mourning the loss of the scalding water and made his way back into the bedroom with a towel wrapped around his slender pale hips but stopped just inside the doorway when her saw a figure he recognised all too well standing in the room staring out the window.
“It seems your sand is getting used to me, the fact it didn’t try to rip me to shreds when I came in is a good sign,” the voice was clam and smooth but it bathed Gaara’s skin in fire. It’s sinful that someone so cool and collected could do something like that with just a voice.
“You shouldn’t be here,” Gaara said quietly before moving to the bad and staring down at the clothes he had laid out for himself. One was a simple outfit of black pants and t-shirt, his usual mourning clothes but the other was his Kazekage robes the white and blue seeming to glare at him.
He didn’t want to wear them but he knew it was expected. Tsunade would be wearing her and she had told him that she expect him to wear his as well. The redhead curled his hands into fists at the thought of the Hokage, he really didn’t like her and he liked her even less when she told him what to do.
Gaara gasped and uncurled his fists when he felt an arm snake around his waist from behind, “I’ve never known you to get so angry just because you can’t figure out what to wear, do you want to tell me what’s wrong with you.”
The redhead sighed and leaned back against the strong chest behind him, “It’s not anything really,” he relaxed as the arms wrapped around him fully, cradling him, “Neji, is Naruto okay? I haven’t seen him since he left Suna.”
Neji nuzzled the smaller boy’s hair affectionately, “I don’t know, even with my eyes I can never tell with him. I think that he’s trying to stay strong but not for himself but for Sasuke, or for his memory at least.”
Gaara was glad to hear that to say the least, he hadn’t been looking forward to seeing his best friend in the state of grief he had conjured up in his mind during their journey here but he wasn’t really focused on that problem at the moment, he was to distracted by the fact that Neji’s hands were roaming over the sensitive skin of his chest and grazing over his nipples teasingly as if they had a mind of their own.
He opened his eyes which he hadn’t even been aware had closed and glanced at the clock getting a little upset again, there wasn’t nearly enough time for them and he knew that they couldn’t be late, let alone miss the funeral all together, but the moan that was building un his throat was trying to convince him differently.
“I see you glancing at the clock Gaara,” Neji lent down to whisper into the redheads ear and his hands travelled downward as well, over the taught muscles of the young Kazekage’s stomach and he chuckled slightly when he felt them jump in response to the light touches and the shiver that rattled through him as he dipped his finger into the redheads navel, “I don’t think we really have time for what you’re thinking,” the Hyuga punctuated his words with a lick to the shell of Gaara’s ear and his deft fingers began to dip below the hem of the towel, “but maybe for something else.”
“N-Neji I just had a sh-ower,” Gaara stuttered out and moved his hands to grasp Neji’s wrists and stop his journey south that was leading them both to a dangerous place of distraction, “I won’t have time for another.”
Neji blew a breath out of his nose, knowing that Gaara was right and pulled away but not before he dipped his tongue into the canal of the redhead’s ear finally eliciting a pleased moan from the smaller male, “I think you should wear the black Gaara,” said the elder jonin, “You may be the Kazekage but Sasuke was your friend.”
Gaara turned and turquoise eyes met soft grey, “Thankyou Neji. W-will you some back tonight?” he felt a blush creep across his cheeks as he asked and was tempted to lower his eyes, “I suspect my siblings and I will be leaving tomorrow morning and I, and I would like to see you.”
Gaara did lower his eyes then. He didn’t know what it was but the older male always made him so nervous. He was always afraid that one day Neji would say no to him, that the gifted Hyuga would come to his senses and be repulsed about what he was but he never did, in fact he complained about never being able to see him and took every available mission he could to Suna regardless of the rank.
Neji cupped Gaara’s face and lifted it to look at him again, sighing when he saw the look the turquoise pools held. It never mattered how often he assured the young Kazekage that he didn’t care about what he was or how far apart they lived from one another he would always be there for him, he would always say yes.
He stroked Gaara’s cheeks with his thumbs, trying to reassure him, he didn’t know what else he could do or say to get the younger boy to believe him other than telling the redhead out right that he loved him which was something he couldn’t do yet, neither of them were ready for that step. He just wish that Gaara would realise just how precious he really was to him and stop doubting the fact that anyone could ever feel that way when it came to him.
Gaara moved his hands up and placed them on Neji’s cheeks to mirror the Hyuga’s on his own and stood on his tiptoes to place a gentle kiss on the Neji’s lips, only just being able to reach them and he felt him smile before the hands moved from his face and slid around his waist to lift him off of the floor and a tongue darted out to trace the seam of his lips.
Neji couldn’t help the satisfied grunt that left him as Gaara allowed his tongue entrance into the hot cavern of his mouth. Their tongues duelled for a moment but soon the smaller boy backed off, letting the Hyuga prodigy take control and he moaned as Neji’s tongue drew his own out of his mouth and into the Hyuga’s, urging him to be the one who took control for once.
Gaara was tempted to draw away not sure what to do and not wanting to disappoint the Hyuga with his lack of skill but Neji sensed the Kazekage’s hesitation and gave him a soft squeeze of reassurance and was rewarded when he felt Gaara’s tongue graze the roof of his mouth experimentally.
They kissed a few moments more before the need to breathe forced them to part and when Gaara pulled away softly he graced the Hyuga a rare smile before he realised the trail of saliva that still connecting them and his face turned the same colour as his hair.
Neji set Gaara back on his feet as he tried to keep his laughter below a dull roar but when he realised he was failing dismally and saw the worried expression on Gaara’s face he placed a quick chaste kiss to the redheads lips, “keep kissing me like that and I’ll have to follow you back to Suna when you leave,” he whispered into the smaller boys hair when he pulled away, “You should get changed, it’s almost time for the funeral.”
As the Hyuga said this the glanced down pointedly at the towel Gaara was wearing before pulling his gaze up quickly and when the redhead saw that there was now a blush staining his cheeks too he looked down curiously only to utter something similar to a shriek as he bent down to pick up said towel that had come unwound from his hips and was now laying in a white pool at his feet.
“Just when I thought you couldn’t get any cuter,” Neji took Gaara’s hand once had wrapped the towel back around his waist and kissed his cheek before moving back to the window he had entered from, “I’ll be back to see you this evening.”
Gaara nodded as Neji jumped out the window but stopped when he realised what else the Hyuga had said and yelled after him, “I AM NOT CUTE!!”

“Are you sure you can handle this,” the captain of the ANBU questioned the raven as the two stood in the boy’s new apartment on the outskirts of Konoha, “watching your own funeral is going to be harder than you think.”
“How do you know?” Sasuke asked quietly as he watched the sky through the dirty glass hoping that it would hold and not dump yet another load of rain on them.
The ANBU chuckled and walked over to stand next to Sasuke before handing him something wrapped in black velvet, “experience.”
Sasuke looked at the ANBU through the corner of his eyes to try and discern whether or not he was lying to him but it was a little difficult considering the wolf mask the ninja wore and thought the Uchiha was well versed in reading Kakashi’s expressions he got next to nothing from the captain as well as every other ANBU he had met over the past few days.
Sasuke decided to take the captains word for it; he had enough to think about today without worrying if those he would soon be working with were lying to him. Instead he took the object from the captains waiting hands and unwrapped it to reveal a mask.
“Welcome to the club,” the captain said, his voice laced with heavy sarcasm, “you don’t get to pick your own animal but everyone that I talked to who met you said they thought this would suit you, it was the consensus really.”
Sasuke wasn’t even listening anymore, he was intent on the mask, his deft fingers moving over the black and dark metallic purple paint work tracing over the white background of the mask itself, “It’s beautiful,” Sasuke murmured
“I'm glad you like it,” the ANBU captain said clapping Sasuke on the shoulder before he looked at the clock hanging on the wall, “you had better put that on so we can go, being late to your own funeral is not good punctuality.”
Sasuke didn’t reply, just put the mask on and tried to smooth down the back of his hair so it wouldn’t be so recognisable but in the end it just stayed sticking up which soon had the captain laughing under his breath.
“Don’t worry about it for now,” he said through his laughter as he reached around into the bag on his back, “I brought you this just to deal with that little problem,” he mumbled as he pulled out a cloak similar to the ones that normal ninja’s wore when in the land of snow to keep them warm, “you’ve probably seen these before, no? If I recall from your file you were at the chunin exams when Orochimaru attacked, the ANBU at the arena were wearing them.”
Sasuke took the offered garment before shrugging it on and pulling up the hood to cover his hair that he would no doubt have to cut unless he wanted to wear the cloak forever, “better?”
“Yeah, if I didn’t just give you that mask I wouldn’t even recognise you. Let’s go.”
***
It wasn’t anything extravagant, just a simple ceremony with all those he had cared about present but as Sasuke watched them all place flowers on his coffin he felt his resolve and his heart breaking. The ANBU captain had not been lying to him, watching this was so much harder than he expected and it didn’t help that he was out in the open either and not hiding in the trees surrounding the graveyard like he had expected.
Instead he was standing in the group that was protecting the Hokage and was standing right next to the busty woman herself who was at this very moment threatening to kill him as they both watched Iruka give Naruto a handkerchief and Sakura bury her face in Sai’s shoulder who was doing his best to comfort her.
He wanted to apologize to the blonde Hokage, he really did, but he couldn’t utter a word in the silence handing around them, it was almost suffocation and the Uchiha found it strange considering that the cold winter air was thin and the sky looked to be promising snow. If that was so why did he feel so stuffy as if a thousand pairs of eyes were watching him…or maybe just one?
Sasuke’s breath froze in his throat as he remembered the last time he had felt like this and regardless of the fact that he had been drowning in anger at the time he could never forget the effect HE had, had on the very atmosphere and air that surrounded them. This was exactly the same.
Fighting down the panic that was slowly taking over his body Sasuke looked at the ANBU captain who stood beside him and tried to do something, anything, to let him know about the danger that they were all in. No matter how many ninja were here or how skilled they all were it was not enough, it would never be enough.
Sensing the panic rolling off the boy beside him the captain glanced down at him and gave a slight nod to show that he understood. He had prepared for this, he knew the rouge Uchiha would show up once he got wind that his younger brother was dead, and he had made sure to leak just enough information to known undercover Akatsuki contacts to make sure of it.
All he had to worry about now was the boy beside him. He knew it was a risk to have him here but there was no better bait than he. Itachi would come out of hiding for his baby brother’s funeral and when he saw that he wasn’t really dead and had joined ANBU just like him he would be furious. Itachi may be strong but they were in possession of his greatest weakness to use against him.
However as the ANBU captain’s mind was working out plans Sasuke’s mind was going crazy with panic and it kicked into overdrive when he realised what the captain was not going to help him with this situation. What was Itachi even doing here, that was the million dollar question.
The only reasonable explanation was that he was here for Naruto, that he was being made a target for the Akatsuki again just like before, like the last time he showed up out of nowhere. If that was so he had to get him out of here and quickly but how?
He couldn’t just walk up to the blonde idiot and drag him away, Itachi would just follow him and that would blow his entire cover, the cover that he had literally died to create for himself but what else could he really do that wouldn’t cause a scene if the captain wasn’t willing to help him.
But that was all he really could do, cause a scene. Take Naruto by the hand and drag him out of the cemetery by force and run as fast as he could with him, as far as he could. The blonde would cry and bitch and probably be very angry with him but screw it, he was doing this to keep him alive and that would have to be enough for the loser.
“Whatever it is that you’re thinking you do not want to do it,” the captain mumbled beside him and just as Sasuke was about to make a move toward the blonde anyway he felt and unmistakeable prick in his side from the tip of a kunai, “we have everything under control.”
“Is that so,” the cold voice from behind them made everyone freeze and Sasuke knew they were watching him, those eyes, and his own Sharingan activated in response form the threat.
The next thing Sasuke knew the kunai was gone from his side and he heard the wind split as it flew backward and his own hand was moving toward his shuriken holster, all his years of training his body paying off but he still wasn’t fast enough.
As Sasuke shifted his stance to throw the weapon Itachi’s fist connected with his head and all of a sudden he was on the ground, the turned earth of his freshly dug grave the only thing that broke his fall.
Pulling himself up to stand on wobbly legs the youngest Uchiha brought his hand up to the mask he wore and felt the cracks along the cheek like a spider web, if he hadn’t have been wearing it his cheek bone and jaw would most definitely be broken.
As the dots began to clear from his vision Sasuke reached for a kunai but stopped when he saw the scene before him. The ANBU members had scattered to protect various members of the funeral party, most particularly Tsunade who was yelling at them telling them to protect others while she punched Kisame in the face, sending him flying with that monstrous strength of hers.
Kakashi was holding struggling Naruto back from the fray and Sasuke thanked him silently while Sai was scribbling on his scroll and protecting Sakura while she tried to heal the prone form of some fallen ninja and everyone else was doing what they could to help which wasn’t much considering the fact that none of them could look at Itachi directly and using their chakra against Kisame and his sword was not a good idea.
The clash of steel and a piercing scream brought Sasuke’s attention back to his brother and the captain of the ANBU only to see a shattered mask and an equally shattered body lying in a pool of blood and mud resulting from some failed style of water ninjutsu that that the captain had not doubt tried to use against the elder Uchiha brother.
Tearing his eyes away from the situation Sasuke took a step into the fray only to feel a hand close around his neck and slam him into his tombstone behind him, virtually shattering it and causing the spots that had been fading in his vision only moments ago to come back full force.
“A raven little brother?” Itachi questioned and reached a hand out to caress the cracks in the mask, “it made you kind of easy to spot, and him threatening you only made it more obvious,” Itachi’s eyes flicked sideways as he made a reference to the dead captain and they filled with disdain and a little hatred, only he got to hurt his little brother.
The younger raven didn’t struggle, he knew it would be hopeless and would only waste his energy and chakra at this point. He needed to wait for his opportunity and not rush into this fight half-cocked like last time. Even though he was stronger now he knew the result would still be the same, he would just get his arse kicked.
Itachi’s hand tightened around Sasuke’s throat and he tried not to cough and splutter as he fought for air but when his brother slammed him back into what was left of the tombstone and pain shot up his spine he couldn’t help it and whimpered quietly.
“What are you doing little brother, joining ANBU?” Itachi’s tone made Sasuke open his eyes and stare intently at the bridge of his brothers nose, avoiding his eyes, he sounded worried, even through his obvious anger, “I thought you wanted to defeat me, how can you do that if your dead.”
“You’re wasting your time with me, brother,” Sasuke wheezed out through his constricted throat, “if you’re here for Naruto then why come at me, I don’t interest you remember?”
“I'm not here for Naruto, not now at least,” Itachi mumbled out, “I came to watch your funeral like a brother should but when I saw you weren’t dead I figured since I came all this way I should at least make my presence known and stop you from making this idiotic decision,” the older ravens face turned into a smirk so similar to the one the younger Uchiha wore almost constantly, “but now that you mention it I suppose it would be shame to leave without at least making a try at the nine tails though even I must admit Kisame and myself are greatly outnumbered by you and your…friends.”
It was then that the cloudy sky above them decided to break, releasing the ghastly weather it had been promising in the form of ice cold sleet that soaked through clothes instantly and stung bare flesh as it fell to the earth and though the battle raged around them with Kisame creating as many water clones as he could while Itachi was distracted time seemed to stop for the two brothers until for a moment all that mattered to them both was each other just like when they were younger, but the moment was over to soon and suddenly filled with a rage that he hadn’t felt in a long time Itachi grabbed Sasuke’s mask and ripped it from his face before tossing his younger brother aside.
As the younger Uchiha got to his feet again and watched his brother stalk toward him he coughed and tried to clear his airways to speak deciding g to tell his brother something this entire situation had made him realise and come to grips with, “I'm not going to fight you Itachi, I was angry at you for a long time for destroying our family but I have a new family now. These people are my family and I have to thank you for making me realise how stupid I am being by leaving them and not staying to protect them from people like you, like I would if I really cared for them and I do, I really do!”
As Sasuke’s voice raised until he was yelling at his older brother he vaguely realised several different voices calling out his name, the majority shocked and disbelieving but a few sounded very angry to his ears but all he saw was his brothers face as it twisted into an unreadable emotion as he took in the younger ravens words.
“If you don’t hate me enough now then I will just have to make you hate me,” Itachi’s words were quiet and barely audible over the horrendous wind and weather but Sasuke heard them as if they were being yelled into his ear and he watched as Itachi’s blood redeyes flickered toward a blonde who was calling his name feverishly against the brewing storm, “you think I don’t keep an eye on you when I can, I am your brother after all and I do not wish to make another trip to Konoha later, I despise this place.”
“Haven’t you done enough Itachi,” Sasuke whispered and hung his head to hide the distress that was rising, causing his soaked hair to fall in all angles across hid face, “haven’t you ripped my world to pieces more than enough in one life time.”
“One day little brother you will get strong enough to stop me and you will thank me for all that I have done to make you so,” Itachi’s eyes locked on Naruto and Sasuke heard his shouts die in his throat as red connected with blue and the blonde became lost in the elder Uchiha’s gaze.
As Sasuke watched Itachi draw a kunai he decided that now wasa thew time to act, it was either that or let him take his blonde dobe.
***
He didn’t know where he was but what the blonde did know was that he had to get out of wherever the hell it was. Red sky, black ground, this was not where he had been moments ago.
“Naruto.”
At the sound of that terrible voice the blonde froze just like the last time they had met. Back then he had thought it was Sasuke but no, this man, this monster could never be the teammate he trusted his life with and whose life he had been trusted with in return.
The blonde turned and with wide blue eyes he gazed at the man who had destroyed Sasuke’s family, his own family, without so much as batting an eyelash. The man who now held a kunai loosely watching his every movement like a hawk would watch a mouse.
“I don’t want to hurt you Naruto but I will if you make me. I trust you have been told about the Mangekyou Sharingan from Kakashi and others who have lived to tell about it, though I must admit there are not many, so you can come with me calmly or I can let you experience what this p[lace is like for yourself.”
“I will never go with you!!!!” Naruto shouted as loud as he could and winced when he heard his voice echo back at him.
Itachi pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration and shifted the kunai he held into a better grip, “I thought you would say that.”
The blonde barely had time to take a step backward before Itachi was in front of him and as he braced himself for the first blow he clenched his eyes shut as tightly as he could, only able to guess what was to come.
***
Cold, the sleet was so cold but the blonde he held protectively to his chest was as warm as the sun. He knew that Itachi would only use the Mangekyou to placate the blonde, not to harm him and that he would attack in the real world, a kunai charged with enough chakra to numb the entire body if it hit the right point and so he had acted.
A sigh passed through the youngest Uchiha as he felt the blondes eyelashes flutter against his palm, he didn’t know if covering those pretty blue eyes of his would have been enough to break the hold Itachi had on Naruto’s mind but he had taken a chance and it had paid off and as his hand slipped away from the blondes face he smile into the warm tanned shoulder his head rested upon.
Naruto shivered as he felt the sleet pelt his face, he was back but how? Cautiously he opened one eye and then the next but wished he had kept them closed.
Itachi stood before him, his Sharingan deactivated and his eyes so wide it would have been comical if they hadn’t been filled with shock and something akin to pain. His arm was outstretched from his soaked and dripping Akatsuki cloak and in his hand he held a kunai that was stained with watery blood but it wasn’t Naruto’s body that it was buried in.
“Sasuke,” the blondes voice wasn’t even a whisper as his blue eyes locked on the ravens shoulder were the blade was buried in a ragged hole but the Uchiha’s arm tightened around his waist to let him know that he had heard.
“I-I'm sorry Na-Naruto,” Sasuke could barely form words as he felt the numbness from his brother’s kunai spreading about his body and he knew that he couldn’t rely on his legs to keep him upright much longer and that fact tripled tenfold as the blade inside his shifted as his elder brother let it go, “I was…s-stupid. For-forgive me dobe?”
“Kisame,” Itachi’s shout was distant to Sasuke’s ears but he felt that for now at least the blonde was safe, especially when he heard shouts and the sound of a chase begin and realised that his brother and the shark man were retreating.
It was cold but the numbness made him not care, he couldn’t have told you where he was or what was happening but it didn’t matter as the blonde that was now holding him protectively instead of the other way around lowered the both of them to the ground and whispered quietly into his ear.
“I will always forgive you.”
The Uchiha smiled as the edges of his vision began to fade and all he wanted to do was move himself to see those eyes again, those expressive eyes that had shown him so much emotion that he had never thought he would be able to experience after the horrors that had befell his young life but he couldn’t even move his hand so he made himself content where he was, held by someone he never thought ne would get to talk to again, who he thought hated him, surrounded by those that loved him despite the odd circumstances that brought them together and for now it didn’t matter that they were in the mud and cold, in a graveyard and probably sitting on someone’s grave.
It was then that his vision failed him completely an before his hearing did to and the numbness took I'm completely he heard the unmistakeable voice of the Hokage shouting orders and yelling at the dobe to take him to the hospital before he really did catch pneumonia and die for real this time.

Ok so intended the Gaara Neji thing to turn into lemon but then I chickened out. I’ve never written a full on lemon before, so I decided it would be best if I just stuck to a little zest, hope it wasn’t to disappointing. And yes I get that fact that the idea of Itachi revealing himself to a large group of skilled ninja’s and ANBU was kind of a stupid idea but I only realised that once the chapter was done.
