So this is the second part! I debated just adding it to the first part, but I wasn’t sure, so I’m just gonna put this up. I realize that there is no interaction between Naruto and Sasuke yet, but don’t worry, that’s gonna be in the next chapter. Anyway, enjoy the second part! Unbeta’d. All mistakes are my own. Reckless Hearts Chapter Eleven, Part Two When he got home, Karin was back from work and sitting on the couch, staring down at something she had placed on the coffee table. Sasuke quietly slipped off his shoes and stepped into the living room, his eyes falling to the little, velvet box that he’d forgotten in his pants that morning. Karin finally noticed him standing there in the entry way and let out a squeal as she jumped up off the couch. She threw her arms around his neck and mashed their lips together, her hands reaching behind his head to tangle in his hair. She was already wearing the ring. “I love you!” Karin whispered into his ear, her voice filled with tears. Sasuke didn’t know what to do besides return her embrace, so he lifted his arms and curled them around her waist. “Oh, I was hoping you would ask me, but I ruined the surprise!” she pulled back to look at his face, her eyes glassy. “Do you wanna propose the right way?” she asked him. She took off the ring and dropped it into his palm, and Sasuke automatically fell to one knee, taking her left hand in his. “Karin,” he started off, unsure of what he should say. He hadn’t planned this out; hadn’t given any thought to what he would say when he finally got around to asking her. “We-we have been together for the last year. I can’t see myself with anybody else,” wasn’t that a lie, “and I would be honored if you would be my wife.” She didn’t even give it any thought, just nodded emphatically and let him slip the ring back onto her finger before throwing herself into his arms. She muttered what sounded like gibberish into his shoulder, but he realized with a wrenching feeling that she was trying to talk through her tears. Sasuke lifted a hand to her back and rubbed circles into it while he whispered sweet nothings in her ear that meant nothing to him. He couldn’t shake the guilt of cheating on her no matter how many times he told himself it had only been one time, one moment of weakness. That night, he dreamt of their wedding but with one added variable: Naruto standing in the shadows with a beer bottle in his hand and grinning. *~* "We need to order more of that cherry-vanilla vodka, and we also need - Sasuke, are you even listening to me?" Ino huffed, waving a hand in front of his face. Sasuke blinked and looked at her, then at the paper and pen in his hands. They were supposed to be doing inventory for the bar and he wasn't even paying attention. The blonde rolled her eyes and pointed to the paper. "We need more cherry-vanilla vodka." she repeated, louder this time so he would get it right later when he called the warehouse. Ino tilted her head and looked at him for a long moment, her fingers clasped around a glass of Pepsi. She didn't like drinking on the job; it made it harder for her to get home at the end of the day. "Okay, that's it." Ino sighed, grabbing a glass from under the counter and spilling a little whiskey into it, sliding it over to her business partner. "What's this for?" Sasuke asked, eyeing the drink dubiously. Ino gave him a pointed look and he scowled at her before taking a sip. It was strong, but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. Ino poured him another half-glass full and put the bottle back under the counter. "What's wrong?" she finally asked him, giving him a flat look when he tried to pretend he didn't know what she was talking about. Sasuke tapped his fingers on the counter as he took a sip of his refilled drink. It went down smoother this time. "Look, I know you better than anybody and I know when you've been thinking too hard about something." Ino pressed, glaring at him when he refused to answer. She threw her hands up in the air and walked away, muttering something under her breath about emotionally-stunted asshole and their vices. Sasuke ignored her and took another sip of his whiskey. So what if he didn't want to talk? He had a lot on his mind now and Ino didn’t need to know any of it. He made sure Ino wasn’t looking when he ran his hand over his face, a sign of just how frustrated he was with himself. He wasn’t getting much sleep now that he was more or less engaged to Karin and he wouldn’t pretend he didn’t know why. His conscience had been eating away at him since that night at Kakashi’s and it only got worse the more he thought about what he’d done. He felt worse about taking advantage of a minor – even if he hadn’t realized it at the time – than he did for cheating on his girlfriend. It didn’t make any damn sense and that’s why he couldn’t fucking sleep. Sasuke swallowed the rest of his drink before getting up from the bar stool and stretching his arms above his head. “Are you heading out?” Ino asked, throwing a concerned look over her shoulder. Sasuke waved it off and jerked his head in the direction of his office. “I’m gonna go look over our books for the month. Lock up when you leave.” he told her, shoving his hands into his pockets as he walked towards the back of the bar and ascended the stairs. His office door was already open, the sound of classical music filtering out into the landing. He’d forgotten to turn off his laptop. Sasuke closed the door behind him and wandered over to his desk, dropping into the cushy, worn leather chair. This office still gave him the chills; he couldn't even sit on his couch now. He hadn’t cleaned it yet – which was a little disturbing, now that he thought about it. He just couldn’t bring himself to even think about it. He swiveled around in the chair, staring at the wall just behind his desk. He'd always wanted to add a window so he could see outside into the parking lot, but Ino already shot the idea down because she thought it was stupid. Sasuke's eyes followed the lines in the wall to the ceiling, where they stopped at a circular bulb just above his desk. He sat straighter in his chair and looked at the thing with wide eyes, scolding himself for forgetting about the cameras in his office. He got up from his chair with a mix of curiosity and panic, wanting to watch the tape and hoping nothing had actually been recorded from that night. He stormed down the stairs and into the utility closet, where a door was hidden just behind the storage shelf. He pulled it open and his stuck his head inside. "Juugo." he called to the man sitting in front of the screens, stepping into the small room when his security guard tipped his head back to look at him. "Did you record anything from my office the night before?" Sasuke asked him, feeling his face heat in embarrassment. Juugo nodded his head and bent to the side, rifling through a pile of tapes until he found the one with the right date on it. The large man didn't say anything about it, so Sasuke took it as a godsend and went back up to his office with the tape in hand. His plan was to destroy it so no one would see his indiscretions, but for some reason he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Destroying it wouldn't make the problem go away. Sasuke scowled as he shoved the tape into a drawer in his desk and locked it with the key, which he taped to the underside of his chair. He gave a quick once-over to the room and then left the office, locking the door behind him. When he reached the bottom of the stairs, Ino was nowhere to be seen but all of the lights were still on. "I'm headed home!" Sasuke called out, getting a reply back that was muffled by whatever his partner was doing. He smirked to himself and shook his head, telling Ino that he'd see her in the next night to help her open. He stopped just outside of the door and breathed in the fresh air, letting the slight breeze ruffle his hair. Every time he thought about going home to Karin, he felt this dread inside him, like she knew what he did but wasn't saying anything. He couldn't relax around her the way he used to. Sasuke pulled his car keys out of his pocket and held them for a moment, just staring down at his apartment key. He hadn't given Karin a copy yet. He was such a damn mess. "Suck it up, Sasuke." he muttered to himself, before he slipped into the driver's seat of his car and headed home. *~* Fingers made their way down his back, tracing the bumps in his spine and down to the curve of his ass underneath the sheets. He chuckled and rolled over, reaching out a hand to grab the one that had been touching him. Karin giggled and wrapped her arms around Sasuke's shoulders so she could pull him down for a kiss. He licked into her mouth, his hands settling on her hips, thumbs rubbing circles into her hip bones. Smirking into the kiss, Sasuke gripped her by the waist and rolled over so she was stretched over his front. "You're energetic today." she whispered into his neck, pressing little kisses to the skin there. Sasuke stiffened touched her shoulders, pulling at them until she was at arm's length. Except it wasn't her. "Naru-!" Sasuke gasped as he startled awake, his hand going to his chest as he tried to calm his racing heart. "What the hell?" he muttered, his hands shaking as he looked around. He was in the bedroom he shared with Karin, the red heard stretched over her side of the bed. Sasuke let out a slow breath and lay back down, turning on his side to get a better look at his fiancée. She was beautiful, there was no denying that, and she was smart. Karin was the perfect match for him, so why had he cheated on her? Why did his thoughts have to keep drifting to that blonde haired little punk? Sasuke rolled over again, glaring at the wall for a few minutes until he closed his eyes, feeling anxious warmth spread over his skin. He wanted to see the blonde again. He wanted to find out why he'd found the teenager so irresistible that night. What was it about him that left Sasuke so off-kilter? tbcWhile AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
