Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: I couldn’t help a little good-natured ribbing at Itachi’s expense. I know Iruka’s a little girly in this chapter, but he’s been up celebrating, and is still a little drunk. I lied. I couldn’t not put this chapter up. If nothing else I still have another weekend of my medical study to write during.
Nejislady: Thanks for the reviews. I was hoping the chapters would be a little nice and romantic. Things are a little up in the air right now for some of the couples, and my muse isn’t exactly sure where things are going yet.
Chapter Eleven – A Big Surprise
Itachi groaned as he rubbed his hand over his eyes. He’d have to invest in some blinds if he planned on staying here this often. He felt like he’d barely gotten to sleep before the sun was up and shining on the bed. It didn’t help that he and Genma were up all night drinking and making sure they got the most out of their limited time together. He was surprised he wasn’t feeling hung over. The two of them had grabbed a few bottles of sake on the way out of the party.
Itachi turned over so he was facing Genma rather than the window and shut his eyes, hoping to get a few hours more of sleep. Genma shifted in his arms, and Itachi smiled the rare smile so few got to see. Other than Sasuke and Genma, only Naruto had seen the true smiles he was capable of. The other smiles were the ones he let people see. They were the forced smiles, meant to satisfy business partners or clan members. Not for the first or last time he wished he had Sasuke’s courage. Spending his life with Genma, a lover of over two years, was all he wanted.
He wrapped his arm around Genma’s shoulders and smelled the faint scent of lemon that belonged to his lover. He couldn’t help the contented sigh that escaped his lips as he settled more securely, more possessively, against Genma. As he reflected, he realized there was nothing about Genma that he didn’t like. He liked the cocky attitude that greeted him when he was away too long. He liked the way that Genma never told anyone who was uke in the relationship. He liked the way Genma would sneak into his room just so they could wake up in the same place and have a good morning kiss. These were things Itachi never told anyone. They were things that would most definitely be used against him if he so much as whispered them to anyone but his closest friends.
And knowing that he was safe and secure with Genma and that Genma was not going to go anywhere, made Itachi’s mind finally stop working. He fell back asleep, wrapped around Genma in a way he’d never really be able to have, but would always have and found peace.
Genma smiled as he woke to Itachi holding him tight. He knew the man had woken earlier, but this was the first time he’d fallen back asleep. Genma kissed the shoulder his head had been resting on. He needed to get up and shower, before Itachi, or they would never get clean. He gathered his clothes and wrapped a towel around his waist before heading to the shower.
He sighed as he leaned back against the shower wall. This really wasn’t the relationship he wanted with Itachi. He wanted the man to make him his husband, though he knew well enough the reasons why that couldn’t happen. Still, he wanted Itachi to tell his family off the same way Sasuke had. Those two weren’t even together anymore but Sasuke was willing to give up the family name for him. He’d even live with Sasuke and have no money what-so-ever if meant he and Itachi could be together exclusively.
He jumped as the door banged open. He’d been so absorbed in his sorrow over his situation with Itachi that he couldn’t help himself. His chakra recognition abilities weren’t the best when he was distracted. That’s why he and Itachi had to make sure they parted on good terms before a mission. It was also why they couldn’t do missions together. He smirked recognizing Sasuke’s chakra and hearing the awful retching sound coming from the toilet.
He stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist while Sasuke sat dazed by the toilet, wiping at his mouth. He stood close enough for Sasuke to see him while he was washing his mouth out. When he finally looked up, Genma noticed the recognition and embarrassment at the situation.
Blushing Sasuke whispered, “Um, hi Genma. Is Itachi around here somewhere?”
Genma smiled. “Yeah, he’s still sleeping. I wore him out.”
Sasuke smirked. “’Tachi’s the uke?”
Genma nodded. “Don’t tell anyone though. He’ll kill you and then me for telling you.”
Sasuke laughed. “Got it. I’ll give you the same information to use against me, all right. If I spill about ‘Tachi, you can spill about me.”
Genma smirked. “Who knew both Uchiha men would be the ones taking it. I thought when I first started dating your brother that my ass was going to be sore 24/7. Turns out, it’s ‘Ta’s ass that gets sore.”
Sasuke grimaced. “Man, I just blew chunks. Let’s stop talking about this, all right?”
Genma nodded. “Now, let me get finished in here. You’re done puking, right?” Sasuke left the bathroom, shutting the door behind him. Genma sighed as he started to dry his body off. He’d maybe have to tell Itachi that he wanted him all to himself. If not, then maybe they need to break this off. He never wanted that. He wanted Itachi. There were nights when his heart ached because he wasn’t near the man. Still, Itachi was going to let him live with him; share his bed for as long as the charade could be kept up.
Genma dressed and brushed his teeth. He went to the kitchen and started cooking. He figured most of the people would be around soon, so he’d cook for everyone. As soon as the food was finished he heard the sliding door to the balcony open, and Iruka and Kakashi come inside. “Good morning, Gen,” Iruka smiled. “How do you feel?”
Genma shrugged before smiling. “Strangely fine.” He knew he should have a hangover, but he didn’t. He questioned the looks the two men were giving him, but said nothing. “I made breakfast. Help yourselves.”
Kakashi smirked. “Just like a good housewife,” he teased the senbon wielder. “I bet that Itachi likes when you make him breakfast.”
Itachi had just emerged from his bedroom. The smell of Genma’s cooking had awoken him. “I do like when my Genma makes me breakfast. I cherish the moments we get together.”
Genma blushed. Itachi wasn’t usually one for sentimental words. Though he knew exactly what the stoic man was thinking, it was nice hearing it out loud once in a while. Itachi seemed to know that well enough, but it was still difficult getting the words from his mouth. “Thanks, ‘Tachi.” He brought plates out to all three men. “I want to talk to you later, ‘Tachi.”
Itachi nodded. He entwined his fingers with Genma’s. He couldn’t help but feel completely at home. He wanted a husband not a wife, and he only wanted Genma for that husband. Itachi sighed and looked at Kakashi, “What?”
Kakashi shrugged, blinking innocently. “What? What?”
Itachi growled. “You know what. You’ve been giving us crazy looks since I sat down.”
Iruka giggled. “’Kashi-kun, they don’t remember. I told you they were wasted.”
Kakashi laughed. “That doesn’t matter; it’s still legal,” he whispered into Iruka’s ear.
Genma growled this time. “Remember what?”
Kakashi and Iruka collapsed against each other in a fit of laughter. Kiba and Hinata walked in at that moment with Sakura in tow. “What’s so funny?” Kiba asked.
Itachi almost rolled his eyes. “That’s what I’m trying to figure out.”
Ten-Ten came in and wrapped her arms around Genma’s shoulders, while Anko went to dish them up some of the food. “Did you have a good night, Genny-bear?”
Genma glared at the unusually bubbly girl. For whatever reason they had formed a friendship and he couldn’t figure out why. Something happened last night obviously, and it involved Itachi. Why did they keep asking if he had a good night? They should know he had a good night simply because he was with Itachi. “Tell us what you’re talking about now.”
Anko came back and dropped off Ten-Ten’s food. “How do you like that, Ten-Ten? We do them a favor and they don’t even remember.”
Itachi glared at the woman who loved to torment him. They were friends, though Itachi had yet to figure out why. “Anko, I’m getting angry. Please just tell me what the fuck happened last night.”
Anko laughed. “He’s getting angry. Do you think we should put him out of his misery?”
Ten-Ten shook her head. “I think that if they don’t remember, it’s their own fault.”
Iruka was smiling. “‘Tachi and Genma sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G.” Itachi glared at the chuunin, but Iruka wasn’t deterred. He sat on Kakashi’s lap. “First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes the baby in the baby carriage.”
Itachi growled and Genma had to grab his shoulders to keep him from reaching across the table and physically stopping Iruka from talking. Genma looked toward the others at the table with pleading eyes. “Please, let us know what’s going on.”
Itachi seethed as he sat across from the people making his life miserable right now. He hated gossip, but he hated it even more when he was the center of the gossip. He sighed and closed his eyes, focusing his attention on the calming touch of his lover. He leaned back against Genma’s chest and took a deep breath. He knew he was close to whipping out the Sharingan and kicking the ass of everyone of his friends who were gathered around the table.
Sasuke and Deidara chose the moment Itachi reopened his eyes to appear. Deidara got Sasuke settled in a chair, when Sasuke noticed that Itachi was forcing the Sharingan back. “What’s going on that’s got you all riled up?”
Genma shook his head softly, careful to keep his calming presence directly in contact with Itachi. “Something happened last night dealing with us, and they won’t tell us what it is.”
Sasuke cocked an eyebrow at Kakashi as Deidara came back from the kitchen with two plates of food. “What are you teasing Itachi about to the point where he’s ready to kill you?”
Kakashi shook his head, but kept laughing. “I can’t tell you. They have to remember it. I can’t believe two people couldn’t remember doing what they did last night.”
Iruka smiled and leaned over to whisper their secret to Sasuke. Sasuke’s face broke out into a smirk before he turned to his brother. “So, I know it hasn’t been all that long that you and I have been getting along again, but your happiness means more to me than just about anything.”
Itachi sighed. “Tell me what it is, please; before I go insane and snap.” Genma stroked Itachi’s hair lovingly while giving Sasuke an evil glare that said he would tell that secret he promised not to tell.
Sasuke sighed and leaned over to tell Deidara. Deidara got a huge smile on his face. He leaned over and whispered to Genma. Genma’s hands stopped their ministrations on Itachi. Itachi pulled Genma around and into his lap. When he saw the look of pure disbelief mixing with incredible bliss on his lover’s face, he sighed and nuzzled against Genma’s chest. “What Gen? What did we do last night?”
Genma leaned over and whispered in Itachi’s ear. Itachi’s face fell for only half a second before smiled a true smile. He wrapped his arms around Genma’s waist and lifted the man up and kissed him passionately. When he finally broke from the kiss, Itachi turned to glare at the entire table. “You fuckers kept this from us for over an hour this morning?! I have half a mind to keep you all locked away in genjustu for the next month.”
Kakashi smirked. “You’re just mad that you don’t remember. Now since you can’t remember last night, I suggest you take your husband to your room and ‘discuss’ your future.” No one missed the finger quotations on the word discuss. A snicker went around the table as Kakashi turned on some music while Itachi carried Genma to his room.
Naruto and Shino wandered out and grabbed breakfast. “What happened this morning?” Naruto asked still half asleep. “It seems like everyone was up early.”
Sasuke smirked and whispered to Shino. Shino’s lips turned up just a bit. “I guess you guys just got another roommate.”
Naruto cocked his head and looked confused. “Who?”
Sasuke groaned and glared at his best friend. “Itachi’s going to get kicked out of the family soon. He’ll need a place to crash until he and Genma get their own place.”
Naruto’s confusion only deepened. Shino smiled softly. Naruto was too innocent sometimes. “They got married last night, Nar.”
Naruto’s jaw dropped as stared in disbelief at the faces around the table. Just about everyone broke down in hysterical laughter at Naruto’s expense. Shino just wrapped his arms around Naruto’s waist and snuggled against his boyfriend, softly kissing the tanned neck. Naruto pouted, but everyone knew it was half-assed. “Then Itachi’s got to pay his share of the rent.”
Genma sighed as he and Itachi fell into their bed. Itachi was latched onto his neck, marking him possessively in a way he was never able to do before. Genma groaned, and despite everything telling him this was perfect and what he wanted, he pushed Itachi away. “Itachi, if this isn’t what you want I understand. Just don’t let me think this is going to last and then you take it away from me. My heart couldn’t take it.”
Itachi sighed and looked up at the man that was straddling his waist, looking down at him with the utmost love and concern. Itachi shook his head slightly. Anyone else may have missed it. “I love you, Gen. I hadn’t planned on it, but there is also no way I would ever take it back. I couldn’t have done it, drunk or sober, unless I loved you.”
Genma sighed and laid against Itachi’s chest, twirling his long hair between his fingers. “I just want you to be happy, ‘Tachi. If you need to keep me a secret to do that, then so be it.”
Itachi shook his head and tilted Genma’s chin so he could look the man in the eyes. “I always thought it was money I needed to be happy, but seeing Sasuke so free and recognizing how I feel waking up with you for what it is – Gen all I need is you.”
Tears formed in Genma’s eyes, but he pushed them away. He captured Itachi’s lips in a punishing kiss. When the need to breathe forced them apart, Itachi held Genma tight to his chest. They lay together for what seems like hours, both content in the feeling of true joy permeating their bodies. Itachi smiled before whispering, “I guess we’re going to need some rings.”
