Chapter 10
Time has passed. Those on the ship had decided to leave upon figuring their lost crew wouldn't be salvaged. Alas, it wouldn't be in vain. Those underneath the tides are rejoicing due to the news their princes have given. Although somehow a brunette had been knocked off the ship during a storm. Having washed up on a shoreline he noticed something approaching him from the fathoms. Trying to collect his thoughts the last thing he remembered had been trying to re-tighten the rigging. Somehow the wind had been too strong. Hopefully the rest of the crew would be able to find him. When whatever had been nearing him stopped poked up a head of red locks accompanied by seafoam green eyes. Gazing at the merman curiously, Neji stayed where he sat on the dunes. Lilac lavender eyes took in the other male's features.
"I see you ended up here," said the redhead in a raspy tone.
"I suppose I did," shrugged Neji, dusting himself off. "Who are you and where am I?"
"You're on one of the islands," answered the merman, staying where he stood slightly out of the shallow water. "I'm Gaara. Technically, I should be back on duty at the palace, but oh well. They won't miss me like they do the others."
"Huh?" Asked Neji in confusion. "Why?"
"because unlike them….I am a true monster," smirked Gaara to show off his needle sharp teeth.
"Can you walk on land?" Asked Neji, seeming to not be fazed by the display of menace drifting off of the other male's aura.
"No," answered Gaara bitterly. "Only the sea hag can make us land people. Otherwise we're bound to the depths."
"How are you a monster?" Neji continued to question him, causing Gaara to become curious why this human didn't seem frightened by him.
"Why aren't you afraid of me?" Asked Gaara, swimming a step or two away when the brunette approached carefully.
"Don't know," admitted Neji, extending a hand to him.
Eyeing it suspiciously, Gaara flicked out his forked tongue to give it a light pat. Cracking a small smirk, Neji thought that this might not be too bad. There seemed to be a pool every so often a couple of feet away from the ocean. At least then Gaara could be near wherever he went on the island. What he didn't know is what he would find. Withdrawing his hand, Neji thought that seemed to be a form of approval.
"Uh, so anything I should be wary of here?" Asked Neji since he didn't know what would be friendly or harmful here.
"There are some villages," explained Gaara. "I don't know how they will handle a human."
"I know how to fight," offered Neji as a semblance of reassurance.
"Good, you'll need it."

A few hours later, Neji had traversed into the foliage nearby. Stiffening, he heard a sniffing noise. When the thick vines are moved it revealed a wolf male. Approaching Neji he remained in place. Holding his hands palms up he showed that he meant no harm. Sniffing him closer the wolf then snorted. It seemed to be a sound that he thought Neji didn't prove to be a foe.
"Hello?" Neji said, patting the wolf cub on the head to receive a joyful yip in response. "Do you have a name?"
"Yes, yes, I have a name," yipped the wolf cub excitedly. "A human I've found. Come, come, let's head back to my pack."
"O-Ok," replied Neji warily, thinking he would walk although the cub seemed to be larger than any normal wolf he's seen before so he ended up being placed on his back instead before the canine began to bound quickly back to wherever the den is located.
The human didn't receive a name for the wolf until later when he found out his name is Obito. The others of his pack seemed to be werewolves by the look of it. Tilting his head to the side, Neji tried to wrap his mind around the concept. Never in his wildest dreams did he ever think he would meet those of this kind. Yet, they had seen merfolk that had been told to be only legendary. Perhaps those stories had been told to ensure that the creatures remained legends instead of people going out to find the truth. Unfortunately, that makeshift barrier didn't seem to hold well.
"See? I brought a human back," barked Obito, noticing that he and the others had a humanoid form aside from the full beast form of them.
"I see," mused the alpha of the pack who is known as Jiraiya with white fur and all.
"Is it ok if I stay with you? I washed up on the shore and don't know what's ok and not here," explained Neji hastily.
"Yes, Obito brought you to us. You can stay and join our pack. Just be wary of the cold ones at night. When the sun goes down stay in the den no matter what."

Meanwhile, underneath the depths, in the merfolk's kingdom the two princes are remaining with their mates for the time being until the time arrives. The blonde worried that whenever he does birth the next of kin that his secret will be revealed. Sasuke did have a right to know, but Naruto didn't know how he would react. Would he be sent to their dungeons? Would he be considered as an exile as well? It scared him to near death from the uncertainties of what could happen if he even told the ravenette. But he did want to tell him. Noticing that the blonde seemed to want to say something Sasuke turned his attention to him.
"Is something wrong?" Questioned the dark haired fishman.
"I need to tell you something," admitted Naruto, worry written all over his face. "But please promise me you won't tell anyone, ok?"
With his curiosity perked up by this, Sasuke ensured that they wouldn't be overheard as he closed the door and windows before returning to him, "There, we shouldn't be eavesdropped on or anything. What is it that you need to inform me about?"
"You see," said Naruto, getting his thoughts together before continuing. "I'm not exactly a merman. My parents are, well, they were Minato and Kushina. They both passed away some time ago. I've always felt a pull to the sea. So, I decided to find out the truth. When I did I asked the witch to turn me into one of you."
Those onyx orbs of Sasuke's widened in shock. Nope, he had no idea that the blonde had kept this from him. Instead of anger the other male seemed to understand why Naruto had needed to keep it secret. If the rulers of the brine found out then there's no telling what would happen to the blonde. Moving forward, Sasuke wrapped his arms around him. Surprised by the embrace, he accepted it.
"I'm not mad," replied Sasuke quietly. "I understand why."
"Y-You do?" Stammered out Naruto in surprise as he peeked up at his mate.
"Yes," confirmed Sasuke. "I promise that no one will find out."
"What if someone does?" Fretted Naruto.
"Then I'll deal with it. I have my ways to keep others silent."

Sighing, Deidara sat on the oyster shell seat. Annoyed that he had to deal with being the crown prince's mate doesn't please him at all. Nope, not one bit. Besides, he hated itachi for the longest time. It also worried him that Sasori might steal him away during the time when he's nearing the arrival for the next of kin. The Uchiha eyed the blonde carefully.
"What?" Snapped Deidara grumpily.
"Are you ok?" Is what itachi asked in response.
Shrugging, he looked down, "I don't know, hmph. You know Sasori might try to steal me away, right?"
"if he does then I'll deal with it," reassured Itachi as a promise instead of a threat.
"Good, you better, un," muttered Deidara, swishing his tail back and forth.
No one had prepared him for this to happen. He had been happy with Sasori and then he's caught up in this mess. Hopefully the redhead found someone else even though he's of the opposing kingdom of killer merfolk that hunt humans for their flesh and bones. It caused a cold chill to rush down his spine when thinking back of the kingdom he had been born and raised in. Being neglected what he's used to has caused him to thin considerably. Being given something by itachi perked him up. Noticing it's some human meat he chomped on it.
"You need to keep your strength up, Dei. I found this somewhere in the dungeons from a while ago. I won't let you die on me. I can assure you of that along with a life you deserve."

In the opposite kingdom that lurks within the abyss of the trenches is where the killer merfolk dwell. They have been at odds with the others. Yet, the princes along with the rulers of it have been figuring out a proper way to achieve their goals against the more diplomatic breed. It wouldn't be an easy feat to accomplish. In due time it will.
"Hidan, any reports?" Asked the redhead who is the crown prince, having become irritated of having lost Deidara although he managed to replace him with the silver haired shark.
"Yeah, yeah, I got you something," muttered the psychotic lilac eyed male, swimming over to his mate. "They have some new people there. Sounds like the princes found their mates or whatever."
"Then they won't notice if we take their tridents and parents captive," smirked Sasori with malice dripping off his aura.
"Heh heh, let's do it," grinned Hidan, excited for the thought of encountering them and dealign with their foes once and for all.
"Why of course, love. They will then see that we aren't inferior beings ever since they banished us into the shadows."
A/N: Yays! Done with chappie ten! Sorry if it's short, but you know for me it's quality instead of quantity I care about.
