Team Sannin had never been as chaotic as it had been one day in the forest during training. The two male ninjas tried acting civil but their attempts failed. Orochimaru refused to meet eyes with the white haired ninja and in return, Jiraiya refused to speak to the black haired male. Tsunade watched them for a while before her temper flared; she couldn't take the oddness of their behaviour. The childishness finally had her on her nerves end and she refused to allow them to continue in such a fashion.
-What’s with you, guys?!- Tsunade snapped, interrupting their training, -you haven't spoken to one another the whole day.-
she turned around, looking from one guy to the other.
-I have to go now,- Orochimaru said.
“He won't speak until I speak to him, but I won’t do that” thought the snake summoner resentfully, as he waved goodbye.
The woman stepped to the white-haired shinobi and waited for Orochimaru to get far enough.
-Jiraiya?-
-Don’t stare at me! I don’t know anything.- Jiraiya snapped.
-What have you done?-
-I said I…-
-Jiraiya!!!- she was now shouting.
-Maybe he had a bad day, I don’t know!- Jiraiya lied, but in his heart, he really knew. He wanted to see his old friend happy, and believed it was the time to raise their relationship to a higher level. However, he ended up treating his lover like a prostitute. His face suddenly got red,-Screw you, Tsunade! Why don’t you ask him!-
He said it knowing that Orochimaru would never tell the truth, he then hurriedly left her on the training field. She watched his retreating back and as much as she wished it was just a bad day she knew it was more. She clenched her fist.
-I swear Jiraiya! If you've hurt him.- She yelled at her friends back. But he didn't hear her, or at least he pretended not to.
_________
Few days later...
Orochimaru had arrived home in a bad mood, the past flashed through his mind as he got into bed to hide under his bed sheets. Sleep had finally taken a hold of him when the phone started ringing.
"Who could that be at this late hour?" Orochimaru thought, suddenly Jiraiya flashed through his mind, he accepted the call without checking.
-Haha! You have never picked up the phone so quickly before.- The voice echoed.
-When will you come back?- Orochimaru asked.
-A few weeks, sweetie! You missed me so much?- Kenji asked.
-Yes, a lot.- Orochimaru said.
-How was your mission?-
-Fine.- Orochimaru replied briefly.
-Don’t push yourself too far, you know… I have big plans with you!- Kenji said eagerly into the phone.
-Fine.- Orochimaru repeated,
-What’s wrong? I thought you were familiar with other words too...- Kenji trailed off when Orochimaru interrupted him.
-I’m just tired.- He lied.
-Only tired, you say?- Kenji said unconvinced.
-Kenji… what else should it be?- he felt dreadful, the uncertainty was slowly killing him inside. Jiraiya was away for four days now.
-I just… thought you were waiting for someone else’s call.- Kenji admitted honestly his voice seemingly irritated.
-No Kenji, I swear. It’s not like that.- Orochimaru stressed.
-But I only get half answers from you, and you’re always tired. You never talk to me, only when I call you.- Kenji said somewhat harshly.
-I'm so sorry... I just...- Orochimaru cried into the phone.
-You haven’t even asked: How are you, my love? It’s like I’m not even important to you anymore.- Kenji snapped.
-That's not true at all-- Orochimaru tried.
-Then how about checking up on me sometime? Never mind, you're obviously too tired to do that right?- Kenji said.
-Kenji!- But the other man had put off the phone. That call only made Orochimaru more restless and he tossed and turned in his sheets, the phone now laying on the ground after the shinobi had thrown it in anger and anguish. His life was suddenly not looking as great as it had when he and Jiraiya had walked through the town, it wasn't as promising as when he had originally thought Jiraiya cared for him.
__________
Orochimaru walked down the streets of Konoha the next morning, the weather reflected his terrible mood, tears stained his face in obvious lines and his eyes still held traces of the weakness. But behind those tears were slitted eyes of gold which made anyone too afraid to brother confront him about his evident emotion. Tsunade saw her friend and instantly noticed that there was a problem, she wasn't too afraid to approach her friend, so she grabbed hold of his arm as he tried to avoid her.
-Umm… everything alright?- She asked. He remained silent, but then suddenly, he broke the silence.
-Nothing is alright!- he yelled. Some folks turned to the voice, -I’m going to Sarutobi’s office.
-But what’s the matter?- Tsunade asked.
-This is the fifth day, and I haven't heard anything about him.- Orochimaru hissed.
-Him?- Tsunade said, -Could it be…? You mean Jiraiya?-
-Who else!-
-He is fine, and he is already on his way home. He didn’t call you?- She asked.
-What an idiot! A jerk… I’ll definitely kill him for this.- Orochimaru snapped, but his anger was only a mask for his hurt, and the blond Sannin knew that all too well. The black haired male disappeared down the street, people scurried out his way despite his small size. His aura alone had he, bolting around corners.
_________
-Jiraiya!- Orochimaru yelled as he ran to his mate.
“He finally talks to me!” smiled Jiraiya, as happiness spread throughout his body.
-You bastard!- Orochimaru yelled, when he reached the taller man he punched him hard on the face - I don’t know what gotten into you!-
“I could ask the same…”-thought Jiraiya as he held his face.
-You should have called me!- Orochimaru cried.
-Not to do that was harder than you can imagine!- Jiraiya bit back.
-What did you expect? If you wouldn’t talk to me it’d be like nothing has happened? We are mates, we grew up together we are… we are like a family.- he whispered. They were the only ones he had, that accepted him the way he was, it was just the three of them. However, sometimes he felt that they didn’t understand him.
-Not at all…-
-Then?-
“I really wanted ‘that’ to happen.”-thought Jiraiya, thinking about how to get out of the trouble. But seems like his silence offended the other man, who left the conversation unfinished. It was clear that the white haired man hadn't said what the shorter male had wanted to hear. Orochimaru didn't give his friend a chance to try again, he shoved him away and made his retreat down the street. Tsunade caught up to her friend too late.
-Damn it Jiraiya!- She snapped, -You've messed up.-
-How is this my fault?- Jiraiya said back.
-Do you know how much you mean to him?- Tsunade asked.
-Not much.- Jiraiya said, -I didn't get a hello or a sorry, I got a punch to the face.-
-He worried about you! Hell he was in tears over it all and you-- Tsuande stopped when she realized she had said too much.
-He was crying?- Jiraiya asked shocked.
-Yes...- Tsuande admitted. Jiraiya bit his lip. Finally he realized just how sensitive his steeled team mate was. The snake was not as heartless as people made him out to be after all.
