I'm sorry for this chapter being so long!! I tried to find a place to cut it in two, but nothing seemed to work. So, sorry!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As they approached the door of the first bar, Kakashi opened it for her and she stepped inside. The interior was dimly lit, with small lamps hanging over the few tables the lined the walls and lights behind the bar. The tables in the middle of the room had a small candle on each.
It was to one of these that Kakashi led her. He stepped over to the bar and ordered two sakes, then returned a moment later and sat next to her, taking his first sip.
The bar had fallen silent when they walked in. There was a jukebox in the corner playing Western music, something about dancing to the music. Sakura thought that was awfully redundant, but didn't comment. As they sat and sipped their sake in companionable silence, the chatter started to return.
At first there didn't seem to be much discussion of a serious nature. One group at the bar hurled insults to the other and Sakura thought it would end up in a fight until they all started laughing. In a way, it reminded her of the ninja bar back in Konoha. There was always abuse thrown back and forth between the different ranks and teams, but all of it was good-natured.
A few newcomers came in and took a table near them. They waved at the barflies up on their stools before settling down for their own drinks. One guy came back with beers for his two companions and himself and they started chatting.
Kakashi caught tidbits of words about the shipyards and he figured they were also dockworkers. He reached up and, under the pretense of rubbing his "bad" eye, moved the patch aside and whispered, "sharingan!"
Sakura watched him reading the lips of the guy facing them before he dropped the patch back in place and went back to his sake. She drained her sake bottle, yet again glad that she could hold her liquor. She glanced over at Kakashi and held up her sake bottle. He nodded and she picked them up and headed up to the bar.
She stepped between the two groups who'd been yelling at each other earlier and signaled the bartender for fresh bottles. As she stood there, she pretended not to listen, but caught what one group was saying.
"Don't get too drunk, Dai. I know you can hold your liquor, but we have work tonight."
Dai grunted and drank more of his beer. "Don't go giving me advice, Ochiro. You can't hold your beer as well as I can."
Ochiro laughed. "Well, I'm not as fat as you are."
Sakura waited for Dai to throw a punch, but he just laughed. "Too true."
Just then the bartender came back with their sake and Sakura headed back to the table. She turned to Kakashi, "this has been a wonderful honeymoon, dear, but I'm afraid this isn't quite my type of place."
Kakashi caught on quickly. "Well, then, let's finish our drinks and take a stroll." They both downed their sake quickly and stood. Kakashi placed his hand on the small of her back and escorted her to the door.
When they made sure they weren't followed, they stopped near the pier for some air. "Something's going down tonight, but I didn't hear a time."
Kakashi nodded. "That's what I got from the table next to us. He didn't say when, either, so I'm assuming it's not yet, as they were just starting their second beers. Let's head to the second place and see if we can hear anything there."
So saying, they turned away from the water and approached the second bar. This one was just as dimly lit, but obviously more popular. There was a dance floor in one corner and a jukebox next to it. There were already a few couples out dancing.
The bar ran the length of one wall, towards the back. Along the left side of the room were booths and the center part of the floor was covered in tables. Kakashi spotted two seats at the bar and led her over to sit down.
They ordered more sake and turned to take in the crowd of people. He leaned in close to her ear. "Might be more difficult to overhear things in here. Let's hang around for a bit, anyway, and see what we can find out."
She nodded to him, then picked up her sake bottle and poured the first cup. After downing it, she turned to see one of the guys next to her eyeing her. She tried her best to suppress the blush and simply look away.
They both realized rather quickly that they weren't going to get any more information, not there, at any rate. So, Kakashi decided to take advantage of the place and when the music slowed down a bit, he held out his hand. "Would you care to dance with your husband?" he asked loudly enough for their neighbors to hear.
She smiled up at him and took his hand. "I'd be delighted to." She followed him onto the dance floor and he wrapped his arm around her waist. She laid one hand on his shoulder and leaned her head against his chest. "I could get used to this," she said quietly.
"So could I," he replied. "I think, however, that you should burn that top and skirt when we get home."
She looked up at him quickly. "Why?" she asked, suspiciously.
"Because it draws entirely too much attention." They turned in their spot and went back to swaying. "In fact, I'm having a difficult time of behaving. I'd like nothing more than to drag you back to the back room and remind you who you're with."
Sakura chuckled. "You wouldn't do that." But he just stared at her in response. She saw the heat in his eye and fought a shiver. "Maybe you would. Then perhaps I shouldn't tell you what I'm wearing under this."
She grinned evilly when his good eye widened a bit. He growled softly, then bent and nipped at her ear. Then his hand slid down from her waist and over her butt. "It's one of your new purchases, isn't it?"
She nodded and leaned up to his ear. " It's red, and lacy..." she trailed off as she felt an unmistakable lump in the front of his pants.
"Keep it up, Sakura, and I'll definitely drag you into the back." He warned in her ear.
She chuckled a little but backed off. They still had work to do that night. They danced quietly until the song changed and the tempo sped up. He led her back to the bar where they finished up their drinks.
He leaned over to speak in her ear, "I saw another place about a block closer to the docks. Let's check it out before heading back to the inn."
She nodded, down the last of her sake and stood. He put a few bills on the bar and they headed out. Sakura paused to take in the cool night air. It was so much nicer this close to the water. She remembered the last night in the Leaf and how stuffy it was. Then she remembered her dream that night and blushed.
"Well, um, shall we?" She said, then took his hand as he led the way.
This one was much more like the first bar they'd stopped at. It was quiet, as dim as the other two, but smaller. They sat at the bar and noticed the clientele was quite a bit rougher than either of the other places. Despite her ability to hold her alcohol, Sakura was starting to feel the influence of so much sake in such a short time. She ordered a beer and Kakashi did the same.
They sipped at it for a bit, listening as best they could to the conversations around them. The group next to Sakura was talking about how good it would be to have the next couple of days off, but the one on the other side of Kakashi had obviously caught his interest.
She leaned on his shoulder, pretending to be loving while he listened. It was an easy way to cover what they were doing. A few minutes later, he kissed her on the forehead and she sat up. "I need to take care of something. I'll be right back," he said as he headed back to the bathrooms.
Sakura sat at the bar and tried not to meet anyone's eyes. Unfortunately, they only took her as more of a flirt and before she knew it, two of the men at the bar were trying to buy her drinks. "I'm sorry, I'm married. My husband just went back to the bathroom."
One of the guys, a small man with mean eyes and crooked teeth said, "that's okay, honey. We don't care if you are married. We can still have a good time."
Sakura glared at him, but before she could say something the other man spoke up. "Leave her alone, Takeshi, she would prefer a man like me, anyway."
The other man was taller than Takeshi and thinner, built much more like Kakashi. He had kinder eyes, but a nasty smile that proved he had no good intentions. "I'm sorry, but as I told your friend --"
"I am Hitoshi. And I am not his friend," he interrupted her.
"I'm sorry. But as I told him, I am married, happily so. I'm not interested in anyone else." She tried to smile shyly, but she didn't think she pulled it off.
Hitoshi glared over her head at Takeshi. "You ruined this! If I had gotten to her first, she wouldn't have turned me down!"
"You're a fool! She would never have chosen you and if you hadn't interrupted me, I would have convinced her to go with me!"
Sakura's head kept turning as if she was watching a tennis match. This was getting out of hand quickly. "Please, don't fight over me! I'm sorry, but I'm not interested in either of you." But her words fell on deaf ears.
They completely ignored her now, and the fight started to spiral. Sakura ducked away from them before fists started getting thrown. Kakashi chose that moment to come back out. "Sakura..." he said, "what happened here?"
"They're..." she started and sighed. "They're fighting over me."
He glanced down at her, amusement in his eyes. "I'm gone for two minutes..." he chuckled. "Well, I guess I won't need to break their bones. Looks like they're taking care of it for me. He nodded his head toward the fight.
They'd started throwing punches, now, hurling insults and foul language. The bartender was trying to break it up, but only succeeded in getting a black eye for himself. Kakashi sighed and walked over to them. "Gentlemen, please. I'm quite sure the proprietor doesn't want to have to replace furniture. Could you please take it outside?"
Apparently, they took offense to being called gentlemen and both of them turned to him at the same time. "Who do you think you are?" Takeshi growled.
"The lady's husband." Kakashi said, mildly.
Hitoshi's eyes widened. He'd obviously picked up on the danger in Kakashi's voice, but Takeshi hadn't. "So?" He said, belligerently. "We just wanted to talk to her. You got some kind of problem with that?"
Kakashi stayed very calm which Sakura knew was more dangerous than any shouting he might have done. Hitoshi seemed to understand this and he held his hands up and backed away. "Sorry, man. I'm not interested in a fight."
Again, Takeshi seemed to take exception to this and turned to Hitoshi and threw a "coward" over his shoulder at him before turning back to Kakashi.
"As a matter of fact, I do have a problem with that. She is my wife, if you'll recall, and I believe she already told you that."
Takeshi didn't seem all that bright, because he either deliberately ignored the warning signs or didn't get them. He threw a punch, but Kakashi stopped it with his palm before it connected. "I wouldn't do that, if I were you."
His voice had gotten deadly quiet. The room stilled and everyone backed away from them. Takeshi, however, didn't seem to get the danger, or didn't care about it. "Oh yeah? You think you're a ninja or something? Think you can fight me? Come on! I dare you."
Kakashi looked over at Sakura. Her eyes widened. If he fought him, they could no longer pass themselves off as a business man and his wife on their honeymoon. If he fought him, she'd have to heal him and that wasn't any better.
She glanced between Takeshi and Kakashi, but then Kakashi winked at her. "I'll give you one more chance, sir. Back away now."
Takeshi snorted. "Yeah, yeah, you're big and bad. Let's go." He pulled his fist back and swung again. Kakashi blocked the punch once more and swept Takeshi's feet out from under him. He recovered quickly, though and tried to punch again. Kakashi blocked it again, keeping his fight entirely defensive.
Takeshi took it as a sign that Kakashi was weak and kept at him, throwing punch after punch, even trying a strike or kick, but Kakashi kept dodging and blocking. It seemed to take forever. Finally, Takeshi started to slow down and Kakashi recognized this and dropped his guard a bit.
It was a feint. The next punch took Kakashi in the solar plexus and he lost his breath. Takeshi swung and connected with Kakashi's jaw and knocked him over. It was the wrong move because Kakashi stood back up and started fighting back.
Sakura shook her head, but then the strangest thing happened. Hitoshi and two other men from the bar joined in and started fighting Takeshi. Kakashi backed out quietly and stood to one side. The fight got worse as Takeshi realized he wasn't figithing Kakashi anymore, but the guys at the bar.
Finally, Kakashi managed to break it up. "ENOUGH!" He shouted.
Two of them - Takeshi and someone else -- were on the floor, not moving. Hitoshi and the other guy were breathing heavily, leaning against the bar. Sakura went over to Kakashi. "Are you okay?" She started examining his ribs and he laid a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm fine, nothing you can't fix...later." He gave her a meaningful glance and she nodded.
She turned to the two on the floor and knelt next to them. She pulled a small medical flashlight out of her purse. She examined Takeshi first and found at least two broken bones, several fractured ribs and some internal bleeding. When she flashed the lights into each eye, she noted a concussion as well.
Moving to the other guy, she noted three cracked ribs and a broken knuckle. He, too had a concussion. She moved quickly to Hitoshi. "Are you okay?" She asked him, looking over him.
He nodded, but gave her a confused look. "Nothing's broken that I know of. Are you a nurse or something?"
Sakura tried not to get annoyed at the assumption. "I'm a doctor. Look at me." She commanded, then flashed each of his eyes. "No concussion. Just sit down for a while."
After examining the last man and seeing that he had no broken bones or concussion, she went back to Takeshi. Here, she paused. She couldn't heal him the normal way in front of everyone. "I need some room and a quiet place to work." She glanced up at the bartender. "Do you have a back room?"
He nodded and Kakashi picked up Takeshi and they headed to the small, but Spartan office in the back. It had a desk, a chair and much better lighting than the bar. Kakashi laid him on the desk, then stepped outside.
Sakura concentrated her chakra and her hands glowed green. She worked on him until his ribs and bones were mended, the internal bleeding stopped and she was sure there would be no damage from the concussion. She found the first aid kit and tied a fake bandage around his ribs before Kakashi took him back out and laid him on a bench. He brought the other guy in and laid him in the same place.
Sakura took a moment to check him over more thoroughly and found a couple more small fractures which she healed before moving on to his head. She tied another fake bandage around him, and Kakashi took him out to the main room. She sat for a moment, to give herself a little time to recover, then went back out to the main room.
Kakashi was apologizing to the bartender. "It's okay. It's about time that one was taught a lesson." He motioned toward Takeshi. "He's in here all the time, trying to make trouble. Every day, in fact, since he started working around here."
"Is that so?" Kakashi tried to feign indifference. "When did he get here?"
The bartender thought for a moment. "A few weeks, maybe?" He shrugged. "Anyway, no apology necessary. In fact, have a drink on me." He pulled a fresh beer for each of them.
Kakashi and Sakura sat down and sipped. He looked Sakura over and realized she was looking a bit tired. He wince as he turned in his seat, realizing he had probably broken something, too. He leaned over to her carefully, "are you okay?"
She nodded. "Just a bit tired, not sure why. We did nap earlier." She shrugged. "I'll be okay, don't worry about me. How about you? I need to get a look at you."
Kakashi nodded and sipped on his beer a bit more. "Let's finish up and get going. I think we've learned quite a bit." Sakura couldn't agree more. They downed what was left of their drinks and headed back to the inn.
