"Hinata" a soft, unknown voice spoke to her and the said woman turned around. She was standing in the middle of a desert. It was hot and sweat started to built on her forehead.
In front of her stood a beautiful woman with sandy hair and warm, dark blue eyes. She gave Hinata a gentle smile and reached out her hand.
Hinata took it, surprised about her own actions. She didn't know who this woman was. Still she felt comfortable around her, she didn't feel fear.
As her own hand touched the warm, soft ones of the slightly older woman in front of her, she returned the woman's smile sincerely.
Her thumb stroke the back of Hinata's hand gently.
"Who are you?" the former Hyuga asked curious.
A small giggle escaped the woman's lips.
"My name is Karura. Don't be scared. I won't hurt you, my dear"
"I'm not scared" Hinata replied instantly. She took a step closer to Karura and watched her closely. At the sight of her Hinata's heart felt warm and secure.
"You're Gaara's mother" she whispered.
Karura nodded. She let go of Hinata's hand just to lay it down her cheek.
"You're my son's wife" another smile played around her beautiful face.
Hinata nodded as well. She felt blessed to meet Gaara's mother. She was so pretty, so fragile, yet she contained an unbelievable, powerful chakra. Hinata could feel the huge amount flowing through her tiny body.
"You're beautiful" Karura aspirated as she stroke Hinata’s cheek carefully. A blush appeared on Hinata's face.
"You will watch over my son, do you?" her eyes wore sorrow, deep hurt and sadness and her voice was pleading her.
"I promise, Karura. I will protect him, just like you did. I will care for him. I… I will love him"
the last words made Hinata’s face burn again. She had spent the night with Karura's son and she now promised to love him. Being honest with herself, it didn't even feel difficult to say these words. They had escaped her lips naturally and easily. Maybe she didn't love him yet… But she was close… she just didn't know it by now.
"I promised to protect Gaara when I died… I never thought I would lead him into a world full of misery… I never thought Rasa would treat him like that…" she let her hand sink from Hinatas face to her shoulder. Like she needed support to keep standing. Tears fell down her face.
"No, Karura, it's not your fault!"
"It is." the woman looked at her with serious eyes.
"The sand that protects Gaara is my chakra I sealed within him. It should protect him from getting hurt by other people. I never thought, Rad would hurt him. He had promised to take care of our son. He promised he would give him a good life, a normal life…"
Karura buried her face in her hands while she sobbed silently.
Hinata’s heart hurt at the sight of her crying. She got closer to her and gently wrapped her arms around her, slowly stroking her back.
Karura had trusted Rasa. The chakra that had been sealed within Gaara hadn't always protected him from his father's insults. Because she had thought Rasa would never harm their son.
"You should know something else, Hinata, my lovely daughter in law…" Karura's words were muffled because she now buried her face into Hinata's shoulder.
"My chakra will fade when Gaara finds someone who is able to protect him. It will stop protecting him, now that you are there to care for him"
Hinata withdrew their hug with wide eyes.
"What does that mean?" she asked, scared of the answer.
"I sealed my chakra inside of him because I wasn't able to be there for him. But now that he is with you, he doesn't need me anymore." Karura gave her a tired smile.
"I know you will be there for him. I couldn't wish for a better girl for my Gaara. I know you will protect him."
Karura stopped for a moment to grab both of Hinata's hand. She squeezed them lovingly.
"The moment Gaara is falling in love with you, my chakra will be gone."
"But I…" Hinata stuttered. She didn't feel comfortable with that. If Gaara would ever fell in love with her, his ultimate weapon, the strongest defense she had ever seen, would be gone.
"Hinata" their eyes met.
"I know you can protect him. Way better than I did."
"Karura.."
"Don't be scared… Trust me. You will love him as much as I do. You will be able to protect him."
Hinata felt Karura's touch getting lighter. Looking at her she realized that her appearance seemed to vanish.
"No, no! Wait! Karura! Don't go!" Hinata screamed desperately.
"Trust me, Hinata. I'm always with you! Thank you for taking care of Gaara!" the smile on Karura's face was the last thing Hinata saw before she was gone.
"No!! Don't! Karura, please! I'm not strong enough!!" tears fell down her face when she found herself standing alone in the desert heat. A loud noise caught her attention. A sandstorm was approaching.
Hinata’s eyes widened in shock and fear and she tried to run from it. Running through the desert was difficult and her legs started to burn already.
What's going on? What is happening?
The storm was so fast that it caught her, spinning her around in its eye. Hinata screamed in horror. Sand cut her skin, filled her lungs and burned her eyes. She panicked. Sie couldn't breathe, she couldn't move, she couldn't see. Everything around her turned so fast. And at the top of the sandstorms eye she noticed one big swirl of sand that came crashing down onto her. Hinata tried to scream from pain. Her lungs felt crushed, just like her bones. And when she finally hit the burning, sandy floor, the storm turned into an image of the woman she had just met. A gentle smile on her face she nodded at Hinata.
"Trust me. I'm always with you"
Her voice rang to her ears. Hinata tried to say help me. But her body was too weak and too injured.
She would smother, slowly… Due to the massive amount of sand that filled and buried her lungs…
A cruel way to die… A lonely, sad way…
Hinata's eyes closed when she felt her body giving up..
Shocked, Hinata rose from her bed. Heavily breathing, coughing violently, eyes widened in horror.
"Hinata!" a worried, panicky voice next to her rang in her ears.
Big, strong hands trailed up and down her back, they tried to calm her down.
She was still coughing and her breathing sounded painful and raspy. Like someone had choked her.
"Hinata! It's okay. You're alright! You're safe! It was a dream!"
Gaara didn't know what else to do. He had woken up due to her screaming and coughing and panting.
He continued to stroke her back until her breathing slowly began to become normal again.
"Gaara…" Hinata whispered while tears fell down her face.
"What happened?"
He shook his redhead and watched her carefully.
"You just had a nightmare. You're safe. I'm here." though these sweet words left his mouth, his voice remained almost emotionless. Just a hint of worry was noticeable.
Hinata nodded and buried herself in Gaara's arms.
"It's alright" he assured her over and over again. And he was surprised how easy this was to him.
They had spend the most beautiful night together and now he felt himself even more attracted to her than before. He wanted to protect her. And if he couldn't protect her by not marrying her, he would always protect her as her husband.
Maybe his father had tried to torture him with this marriage. But instead… He had given Gaara the most precious present on earth.
Hinata, Sabaku no Hinata. His wife.
Still he didn't know how to show this kind of affection to her. She had won the fight against his demon, but not against his own shy, antisocial character.
Gaara was sure he would react differently from now on. But he could not trust himself to not push her away again… like he had done the night before their wedding…
He had just tried to safe her. But now he knew she was his rescue… Hinata would change him…
The door swung open violently as Kankuro stumbled into Gaara's room.
"What's wrong?" the brown haired man asked worried. He looked tired.
Dark circles framed his dark, warm eyes.
"She just had a nightmare" Gaara explained, the aquamarine orbs not leaving Hinata.
"Alright…" Kankuro whispered and gave Hinata a tired smile.
"So you're okay?" he asked her.
Hinata rose her head and shook it. She didn't feel able to speak right now.
Kankuro nodded, turned on his heels and left their room again.
This night had been one of the worst nights Kankuro had ever had. He had heard them talk. He had heard them kiss. He had heard moans, heavy breathing, sex noises, Hinata screaming in pleasure, Gaara grunting in release…
It had been torture to him. Listening to his brother and the girl he loved having sex. Hearing how she liked it, how she wanted more. How she had screamed his name. Gaara.
Since Kankuro had met her months ago, he had dreamed about her screaming his name, kissing and touching him. He had dreamed about Hinata falling in love with him.
Though Kankuro wasn't angry at his brother… He hated his father for it. He blamed him for his heartbreak. Rasa had never been a good father. And other than his father, he wished Gaara to be finally happy. Even if it would be with the woman he loved himself…
Kankuro sighed when he closed the door behind him. The sun had already risen so he made his way to the kitchen to get some food.
Maybe… he should kill his father. Maybe everyone would be happier if Rasa would be dead.
When Hinata had fallen asleep again, Gaara took a bath. Afterwards he sat down on a chair standing right next to Hinata.
Watching her sleep peacefully made Gaara's heart grow without him noticing. Her thick, black hair framed her beautiful pale face, her tiny, soft fingers held the blanket tight at her chin. Her breathing was calm and steady. The absolute opposite to her breathing last night when they had spent their wedding night…
Gaara's face burned at the thought of it. He had touched, kissed and licked her in so many deliciouses places…
Hinata had made him feel in a way he had never felt before. Completely satisfied, relaxed and… Wanted!
When he caught himself reaching out for her lips to touch them, he withdrew immediately and stood up.
Although those feelings felt good, he was also scared of them. It was hard to understand what they meant, what they were called, what he had to do, now that he felt something like this.
Maybe I should leave her alone for some time… Maybe those scary feelings will vanish…
Gaara thought and laid a hand on the doorknob. He took another look at Hinata.
You're a coward… You're weak. Stay. Don't leave her. Kiss her. Make love to her again. She is yours. Only yours…
He shook his head and turned to face the door again.
You just said, you wanted to protect her. Now don't leave her!
The voice in his head got louder.
But I'm scared! I don't know what this means. Why do I wanna kiss her? Why do I wanna protect her?
Because… As You said yourself… She is your rescue… Your wife…
Growling Gaara opened the door and left the room. He was sweating and breathing felt more difficult.
Maybe he had never been ready to understand and learn what the Kanji on his forehead really meant. Maybe he would never be…
How could he ever be able to feel or to show
Love.
This big word that was imprinted not only on his forehead but also deep in his heart.
Love.
Something he had never felt, something he had never received.
Though he felt Hinata so near after their first night together, Gaara was way too scared to deal with this word named "Love" just now.
So he left his room, sighed deeply and vanished. The only thing left of him was a handful of sand.
When Hinata woke up again, she felt dizzy and still tired. It seemed to be noon already. The sun was standing high above Suna.
Her body felt heavy and breathing felt still difficult. So she decided to go to the bathroom to wash her face and drink some water.
Rinsing her face she started to cough again. It hurt and she closed her eyes until it finally stopped. When she opened the lavender orbs again she saw blood in the sink along with something that looked like sand...
"What the..." Hinata whispered and wiped her mouth.
Panic started to grow in her belly. She had died in her dream. Sand had filled her lungs and she had smothered.
But it had been a dream, right?
Letting her Kimono fall down to the floor she looked at her body. Her eyes widened.
It was covered in bruises, little cuts on her skin next to the blue, greenish spots all over her torso.
Finally panic broke out of her and she felt herself hyperventilating.
"Help!!!" she screamed desperately before she felt her body getting unconscious.
